Bob Dylan CO-Op’s with TV advert

January 29th, 2009 by Warren Moore

In a decision that may surprise many, Bob Dylan best known for his 1960 protest songs has allowed the Co-operative Group to use Iconic song Blowin’ In The Wind in a TV campaign.

Once voted Rolling Stone’s 14th greatest song of all time, Blowin’ in the Wind was  a favoured  ballad of the 1960′s civil rights and anti-Vietnam movements.

According to a record label spokesman, Dylan was swayed by the group’s ethical approach to business. The Co-op, which runs a chain of supermarkets as well as banking and travel services, consciously operates according to environmental impact, fair trade and social responsibility guidelines.

The Co-op advert will be broadcast on UK Television next month coming just as Bob Dylan prepares to embark on a 9 date tour of the UK this coming April and May.

The Bob Dylan tour starts in Sheffield at the Hallam FM Arena (April 24), before moving on to London’s O2 Arena (April 25), Cardiff International Arena (April 28), Birmingham NIA (April 29), Liverpool’s Echo Arena (May 1), SECC Glasgow (May 2), and the Edinburgh Playhouse (May 3). The Bob Dylan tour comes to a close with two back to back shows at the Dublin’s O2 Arena (May 5 & 6). Bob Dylan Tickets are currently available from £37.
