Donmar Theatre New Season to feature US TV stars

London’s Donmar Warehouse may not be considered amongst the West End’s elite but the small theatre has exerted its pulling power once again by announcing a new season that includes British actors who have made big names for themselves in the United States.
The Wire’s Dominic West, The Mummy’s Rachel Weisz and Spider-Man baddie Alfred Molina will all appear in plays at the 250-seat Covent Garden theatre during the next year.
Tennessee Williams’s ‘A Streetcar Named Desire will open the Donmar Theatre 2009 season on July 28, following previews from July 23. A Streetcar Named desire will run at the Donmar theatre to October 3rd, directed by Rob Ashford and Starring Hollywood actress Rachel Weisz (Blanche DuBois), Elliot Cowan (Stanley), Jack Ashton (Young Collector), Barnaby Kay (Mitch), Ruth Wilson (Stella).
Following on The Donamar Theatre will host a production of ‘Life is a Dream’, by Pedro Calderon de la Barca, in a new version by Helen Edmundson. Opening October 13, following previews from October 8 – Life is a Dream will run to until November 28. Life is a Dream will be directed by Jonathan Munby and starring US T.V actor Dominic West (Segismundo).
Finally The Donmar Theatre will host the World Première of RED, by John Logan. Opening December 8, following previews from December 3, RED will run to until February 6 2010. Directed by Michael Grandage, Red will Star Alfred Molina (Mark Rothko), Eddie Redmayne (Ken).
West End Theatre fans will welcome the news as they gear up for a summer season which will see long running favorites such as Hairspray, Chicago, Dirty Dancing, Les Miserable, Oliver and Jersey Boys coupled with exciting new productions of Calender Girls, Sister Act, A Street Car Named Desire, Life is a Dream and Red.
