Glen Johnson nears comeback but Skrtel out for 8 weeks

March 2nd, 2010 by Ewan Eyre

As Liverpool desperately try to salvage a Champion’s League place from what can only be described as a disappointing season, Rafa Benitez will be thrilled with the news that England right-back Glen Johnson has resumed training and is nearing a comeback.

The Reds have been without Johnson since late December, leaving them short of options on the right-hand side of defence.

Unfortunately for Liverpool, this news coincides with the confirmation that Martin Skrtel will be out for up to eight weeks with a broken metatarsal suffered in the 3-1 win at Unirea last week.

With yet another defensive shake-up on the horizon for Rafa, it remains to be seen whether Liverpool will be able to push on for fourth spot in the Premier League. With Tottenham, Manchester City and Aston Villa all aiming for the coveted final Champions League place as well, it looks to be a fascinating next few months in the Premier League.
