Everything to play for in final weekend of RBS Six Nations 2010

March 16th, 2010 by Gregory Jones

As we enter the final round of matches in this year’s Six Nations Championship, the ultimate prize is still at stake. France play England at the Stade de France, and while the French have been in imperious form throughout the tournament, they have not defeated England in a competitive match since 2006.

There are a number of permutations that need to come into play in order for France to concede the title. Ireland will need to defeat a plucky Scottish side in order to have any hope of retaining their title, and pray that England defeat the French. Those two results will have to recover a points difference of +50 in France’s favour, so Ireland will need to win by a large margin and hope England do the same.

Scotland, Wales and Italy will all hope to avoid bottom spot in the table with a win. Given that the Welsh and Italians face off at Cardiff’s Millennium Stadium on Saturday, at least one of them will drop points, which means that a Scotland win against the Irish would definitely lift them above one of the loser of the clash.
