Red Bull’s Mark Webber won a tremendously exciting British Grand Prix yesterday, after controversial circumstances left Red Bull boss Christian Horner being accused of favouritism. Prior to the race, the front wing on Webber’s team-mate Sebastian Vettel’s car was damaged, and Horner made the surprising decision to take the part from Webber’s car to give to the German – the justification being that Vettel was marginally ahead of the Australian in the championship race.

It was another blow for Webber after the team blamed him for the collision with Vettel in Turkey – even though most pundits deemed the crash the German’s fault – but he responded in the best possible way. Webber got a better start on the race, and kept the inside line, while Vettel was unable to even salvage second place as Lewis Hamilton of McLaren held a tight line just behind the Australian.

In fact, Vettel went off the track and punctured his tyre in the process – meaning he had to come in for an early pit stop from the back of the field. Webber meanwhile dominated throughout, despite a possible banana skin when the safety car tightened the field, and it will be interesting to see what happens should a similar situation arise with car parts in the next race. Hamilton drove wonderfully to retain second place, while Jenson Button also did excellently to salvage ten places from fourteenth – narrowly missing out on the podium to Nico Rosberg of Mercedes.

Hockenheimring is the name of the circuit for the next F1 Grand Prix, which is located less than 100 miles from both Frankfurt and Stuttgart.
