Second Alice Cooper support act confirmed for UK shows

Another support act has been confirmed for Alice Cooper’s UK shows this autumn.

The Treatment will support Alice Cooper at two of his October shows – Sheffield’s City Hall on October 25th, and Bristol’s Colston Hall on October 26th. They will also support the rock legend for his European dates. Opening the gigs on the rest of the UK tour will be the New York Dolls.

Cooper’s full UK tour dates are:

Alice Cooper joins Ke$ha on stage

Ke$ha was joined on stage last night (July 5th) by Alice Cooper, during her gig in Oslo.

The 63-year-old reportedly dropped by Ke$ha’s sound check on Tuesday to say hello, when the pair decided to treat fans to a duet of classic Cooper track School’s Out. Ke$ha then wrote on Twitter: “Thanks for coming to Oslo to do SCHOOLS OUT with me dad ; ) LEGEND.”

Alice Cooper joined on stage by Johnny Depp at tiny London show

In a rare London club appearance last night (June 26th), Alice Cooper was joined on stage by actor Johnny Depp.

The Hollywood screen sensation played guitar alongside Cooper in a show for just 100 fans – a far cry from the rock legend’s usual, much larger gigs. Playing in London’s famous 100 Club, Cooper played his classics as well as songs from his new album Welcome 2 My Nightmare, released in September. Depp played guitar on hits School’s Out and I’m Eighteen.

Speaking before the show, Alice Cooper said, “It’s been a while since we played in such an intimate venue, but strip away the theatrics and we are pedal-to-the-metal rock band, born in clubs like the 100 Club. We play every show like that anyway and it will be fantastic to reconnect in that atmosphere. This show comes with a health warning – ‘We don’t do acoustic, this will be loud.’”

Alice Cooper announces intimate London show and UK tour

Legendary heavy metal star Alice Cooper has announced a UK tour for October 2011, as well as an intimate gig in London in June.

The 63-year-old rockstar will play six UK shows from 25th October. The Halloween Night of Fear tour is set to show off his new record, Welcome 2 My Nightmare, to be released in September. The singer has just headlined the Second Stage at Download Festival, stunning crowds with a show that in the past has included boa constrictors, a guillotine and an electric chair. He was recently awarded a Kerrang! Icon award, and in 2010 was immortalised in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.

Cooper will be offering an intimate preview of his new album, as well as playing classic hits such as School’s Out For Summer and Poison, on June 26th at the famous 100 Club, London.

Phil Xenidis replaces Richie Sambora for Bon Jovi tour

Bon Jovi have started their US tour in New Orleans with Phil ‘Phil X’ Xenidis filling in for guitarist Richie Sambora, who is in rehab.

Xendis is best known for replacing Rik Emmett in Triumph, but has also been a prolific session guitarist, working with artists such as Rob Zombie, Alice Cooper and Avril Lavigne.

The surviving members of the original Alice Cooper Band will be “reunited” onstage as part of an extraordinary event which will see the band turned into holograms for a show at the Battersea Power Station on 11 May.

The “Jägermeister Ice Cold Event” is set to make history as the U.K.’s first holographic 4D rock gig and will celebrate the release of the new Alice Cooper box set “Old School: 1964-1974″. Featuring original band members Alice Cooper, Dennis Dunaway, Neal Smith and Michael Bruce, plus Steve Hunter standing-in for the late Glen Buxton, the “Jägermeister Ice Cold Event” will be the first time the group has “appeared” together in the U.K. since 1972.

“We couldn’t resist this,” says Alice, real name Vincent Furnier. “Working with Jägermeister to appear as holograms on the other side of the Atlantic is the ultimate experience, a cutting-edge conjuring trick that celebrates the future and our history. We can’t wait to see the results.”

Of course, this isn’t the first time Alice has dabbled with holographic technology. In March 1973, Alice was the subject of the world’s first 3D hologram piece of art, created by the surrealist artist Salvador Dali. An admirer of the band’s shock tactics, Dali immortalized Alice as a hologram.

Neil Diamond inducted into Rock and Roll Hall Of Fame

Neil Diamond has been inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall Of Fame alongside Alice Cooper. They shared their triumph in the 27th year of the hall with three other stars in the Performers category – the New Orleans mainstay Dr. John, girl group star Darlene Love, and Tom Waits.

This year’s induction ceremony at the Waldorf-Astoria in New York.

Neil Diamond tickets are currently on sale for the star’s UK performances in 2011. Diamond will perform shows in Glasgow, Birmingham, Manchester and London in July.

Ded Leppard to play Download warm-up gigs in Ireland

Veteran heavy metal band Def Leppard have announced they will play two warm-up concerts before headlining the Download Festival this year.

The Sheffield rockers will play Belfast’s Odyssey Arena on June 7th and the O2 in Dublin on June 8th. They are then set to headline Download alongside System Of A Down and Linkin Park. The festival will take place at Donington Park over the weekend of June 10th-12th.

Other acts confirmed to appear at Download include Bullet For My Valentine, Alter Bridge, Korn, Alice Cooper and Pendulum.

Def Leppard tickets go on sale on Friday.

More acts have been added to Download Festival 2011, joining System Of A Down, Avenged Sevenfold, Linkin Park and Rob Zombie. Bullet For My Valentine, New Jersey band Gaslight Anthem, Pendulum and US rockers Alter Bridge have all been added to the bill.

Alice Cooper has also been confirmed for the festival taking place at Donington Park from 10th to 12th June, along with Korn, Danzig, The Cult, GWAR, Masters Of Reality, Black Veil Brides, The Damned Things, Escape The Fate, Hollywood Undead and Rise To Remain.

Tom Chaplin from Keane has new addiction… to golf!

The lead singer of Sussex band Keane, Tom Chaplin, was much maligned in the media for his addictions to both drink and drugs. He went to famous rehab clinic The Priory in order to recover, and has instead developed another obsession. After Alice Cooper found salvation from his alcoholism in the form of golf, Chaplin decided to take up the sport as well. It has done wonders for the Keane frontman, and he has now achieved an impressive handicap of eight!

More acts announced for Sonisphere

A host of names have been announced to the line-up for this year’s Sonisphere festival in Knebworth. As well as previously confirmed headliners Iron Maiden and Rammstein, acts such as Gallows, Fightstar, Madina Lake and Funeral for a Friend have also been added to the bill.

Other names already confirmed include Slayer, Placebo, Alice Cooper, Iggy & The Stooges and Papa Roach.

The festival takes place from Friday July 31st to August 1st 2010 and with more big names yet to be announced, it is shaping up to be quite a line-up.

Rammstein to play Sonisphere 2010

Rammstein have recently confirmed that they will be joining Iron Maiden on the bill at the 2010 Sonisphere Festival. The heavy metal legends will be joined by other top acts including Alice Cooper, Motley Crue, Slayer, The Cult and Iggy & The Stooges.

Alice Cooper’s Ouija Board Origins

Alice Cooper, real name Vincent Furnier, got his name from a Ouija board session his mother took part in. Ahead of his UK tour, Alice Cooper said, “My mother did a Ouija board session and asked, ‘Who is Alice Cooper?’ It spelt out ‘Vincent.’ ”

Alice Cooper is touring the UK, taking in the Manchester Apollo, Clyde Auditorium in Glasgow, City Halls in Newcastle and Sheffiled, Oasis Leisure Centre in Swindon, Wolverhampton Civic Hall, Plymouth Pavillion, Nottingham Royal Centre, Brighton Centre and London’s HMV Apollo on 6th December.
