Adele, Justin Bieber and 30 Seconds To Mars are each shortlisted for three awards, whilst on the back of the announcement of a December 2011 Coldplay UK tour, the band have been nominated for best UK and Ireland act.

The 18th Annual MTV EMA’s will take place at Belfast’s Odyssey Arena on November 6th, with the ceremony set to be broadcast live on MTV.

The annual event will take place at the Shoreline Amphitheater in Mountain View from October 22nd to 23rd, with the proceeds from the shows being donated to the Bridge School, a school that supports children with severe physical impairments and debilitating communication needs. The school was founded by Young and his wife.

Other acts confirmed to play include Tony Bennett, Beck and Carlos Santana. Previous years have seen the likes of Paul McCartney, Elton John, Metallica and David Bowie perform.

Bridge School Benefit concert tickets are set to go on sale Friday 9th September.

The performance marked the end of their UK tour, but the band will be playing at Austin’s City Limits Festival later this month.

The universally acclaimed band will perform at Manchester’s MEN Arena on August 31st, and Edinburgh Castle on September 1st. Support at the Manchester show will come from folk-rock favourites Noah And The Whale, while The Walkmen will open the Edinburgh concert. The performances are their only non-festival shows left this year, and their last gigs in the UK.

In an interview with the Telegraph, they warned that the gig at the castle, on top of a plugged volcano, surrounded by battlements, “could get pretty dramatic.” Will Butler, the band’s drummer, said: “Physical setting makes a difference. It’s open air, you’re in the elements, there’s magic in that. And we’re playing to Scottish people…”

Frontman Win Butler continues: “They’re probably the best audience in the world for getting rained on, and acting like it’s the greatest thing that could happen.”

The very special gig is just one of two performances left in the UK this year, with the other gig set for August 31st at Manchester’s MEN Arena.

The award, described as the Canadian equivalent of the UK’s Mercury Music Prize, can list bands such as Final Fantasy and Caribou amongst the past winners. Arcade Fire have been nominated for their third album, The Suburbs. Other nominees include Austra, Destroyer and Ron Sexsmith.

The weekend is headlined by Black Eyed Peas today (July 1st), The Chemical Brothers on Saturday (July 2nd) and Pulp (July 3rd). Pulp’s headline show comes after their recent reunion – previously they had been on a hiatus since 2002. Last weekend they took Glastonbury by storm when performing a secret gig on The Park Stage.

The festival is set in the heart of London in Hyde Park, which last night (June 30th) played host to 60,000 fans watching a spectacular Arcade Fire set.

The London-based band will play thirteen dates across the country, in what will be their biggest ever UK tour. In an interview the band revealed their thoughts on the crowd and of the mistakes they can make when nervous. Speaking to Q, frontman Marcus Mumford said, “With these giant shows I always feel the first few rows aren’t real. There’s an ecstasy that happens when you’re in the front rows of a gig, it doesn’t matter who’s onstage, it’s always a frenzy and you’re squashed and you’re probably quite drunk so that’s not the reality. So, if you can engage the furthest person back, then you can get everyone else to engage.”

Mumford also revealed that nerves can get to them when the pressure is on: “Forgetting words is the worst, it happens a lot, especially when we do live television.” He said they also suffered from “shaking, panic attacks, sweating a lot, crying a little bit, a desperate need for the toilet.”

The film, titled Scenes From The Suburbs follows troubled teenager Kyle and his activities over a summer, particularly focussing on how he deals with his friend Winter’s changing character. Available to watch on Mubi.com, the video featured Spike Jonze directing, whose previous work include Being John Malkovich and more recently Where The Wild Things Are. In an interview with NME, drummer Will Butler said, “Hopefully it doesn’t explain the album more. We wanted it to be another slant, coming from the same place, so that the songs kind of illuminate the film and vice versa.”

The Montreal-based orchestral rock band will play a headline slot on Thursday (June 30th), supported by an all-star line-up of The Vaccines, Beirut and Mumford & Sons. Arcade Fire begun June with an epic headline set at Bonnaroo, and are surely set to repeat that in Hyde Park. That show featured frontman Win Butler singing crowd favourite We Used To Wait from a platform within the audience, and their show earlier in the year at Coachella featured an awe-inspiring stage show of giant balloons, so UK fans travelling to London on Thursday are sure to be delighted. Performing tracks from their hit 2010 album The Suburbs, as well as old favourites from incredible debut album Funeral and critically acclaimed follow-up Neon Bible, Arcade Fire are famous for their energised live shows and diverse range of musical skills, with each member able to play multiple instruments.

This weekend Hyde Park played host to Hard Rock Calling, featuring stunning headline sets from The Killers, Bon Jovi and Rod Stewart. This coming weekend will see Wireless Festival descend on Hyde Park, featuring headline sets from The Black Eyed Peas, The Chemical Brothers and Pulp.

After opening with Ready to Start, the eight-peace from Montreal played a 90-minute set and returned for an encore. Highlights of the set included frontman Win Butler singing We Used To Wait offstage from a platform within the crowd, and his brother Will jumping into the audience. Whilst the set didn’t feature the impressive stage show of giant balloons seen at Coachella earlier in the year, the performance still was hailed as epic and sets a precedent for their upcoming European dates.

The former Talking Heads frontman has recorded backing vocals for a new track, Speaking In Tongues, which is one of two new songs on the re-release.

The new edition is set to be released on June 27 and will also include the band’s short film, Scenes From The Suburbs.

Arcade Fire have strong links to Haiti thanks to principal member Régine Chassagne, whose parents emigrated from Haiti to Canada, and have been working hard to raise money for the Haitian Earthquake Relief initiative throughout their touring schedule’s of 2010 and 2011.

The Juno’s, held in Canada, continued the acclaim that Arcade Fire have received this year, having already won best album at the Shockwave NME awards.

The band also won group of the year, best alternative album of the year and songwriter of the year.

Mercury, like many other labels, have lost  money on physically released singles in 2010 and have now said that they will only release them on ”rare occasions”. Physical singles now only provide less than 1% of total weekly single sales, with digital downloads fastly becoming the main source for music lovers.

However, sales of vinyl records increased last year as CD sales fell.

Elton John’s 1997 Candle In The Wind, a tribute to Princess Diana is still the UK’s biggest ever selling single and the second biggest single of all time, behind Bing Crosby’s White Christmas.

The Strokes, Primal Scream and Arcade Fire have been confirmed and the ‘E=MC2′ band Big Audio Dynamite have also been added to the bill.

Formed in 1984 by Mick Jones once he’d left The Clash, the band never had a top 10 hit in the UK but are revered as pioneering for their sound and they reformed earlier this year.

Arctic Monkeys and Portishead are also playing the festival.

Organisers have confirmed that the first lineup announcements will be made when the tickets go on sale. Rumours are circulating that the Red Hot Chili Peppers and Muse could headline this year.

Reading Festival takes place from August 26 to August 28 at Richfield Avenue and Leeds Festival takes place over the same dates at Bramham Park. Last year’s Reading and Leeds Festivals were headlined by Guns n Roses, Arcade Fire and Blink 182.

In an interview with XFM, vocalist and drummer Ted Dwane said “”We really love the idea of involving our audiences in some way. That’s how we did ‘Sigh no More’. We did it live, the songs were played in front of crowds, they evolved in front of an audience. We’re quite intent on doing that again for the second album. It feels like a logical way to work out what you want to record”.

The winners of the 2011 Brit Award for best album have become the first band since Coldplay to sell a million records on both sides of the Atlantic and have been confirmed at this years Glastonbury Festival. The band will also support Arcade Fire at the huge show in Hyde park this summer.

The fin, which was written by Spike Jonze alongside Arcade Fire members, Win and Will Butler, is an extension of Jonze’s previously released music video for the band’s single ‘The Suburbs’.

Arcade Fire’s front man, Win Butler, said “It’s not a video. It’s a short film…It’s like a science-fiction B-movie companion piece for the record. Basically, we played Spike some music from the album and the first images that came to his mind had the same feeling as this idea for a science fiction film I had when I was younger.”

The band are set to perform a number of UK shows this summer, with Arcade Fire tickets on sale now for their live performances at Hyde Park in London, Manchester MEN Arena and Edinburgh Castle.

The group are set to tour the UK in support of the record later this month.

The band will perform headline shows at Glastonbury, T In The Park and Oxegen this summer, and will also release their fifth studio album.

Hyde Park is already set to host the likes of Arcade Fire, Kings Of Leon and Hard Rock Calling acts Rod Stewart and Bon Jovi this summer, and if rumours are to be believed, Coldplay are the next big name set to be announced to perform this year.

Acts such as the Chemical Brothers, Interpol and PJ Harvey have also been confirmed to appear across the weekend. Arcade Fire have also been confirmed to perform a number of UK shows this summer, including a huge concert at Hyde Park in London.

Electric Picnic tickets are set to do on sale this Friday, 11th March.

The folk band will now play an extra, top secret show this Saturday, March 12th. The location is yet to be revealed, although the capacity has been confirmed as around 250 people.

Although tickets are not available online for the band’s Scotland gigs, Mumford and Sons tickets are available for the band’s Ireland tour later this month, as well as their show alongside Arcade Fire at Hyde Park in June.

Music Week cites the band’s recent appearance at the Grammy Awards as a major factor in the boost in sales, reporting a 99% increase in the US since their performance at the ceremony.

Their performance at the BRIT Awards has had a similar effect on UK sales.

Mumford and Sons tickets are on sale now for a series of intimate shows in Ireland this month. The band will also support Arcade Fire at their Hyde Park show on 30th June.

The folk rockers performed their song Timshel live on the night, and it clearly went down a treat with viewers as they rushed to purchase the record.

The band are up for two awards at this year’s BRIT Awards at London O2 Arena – Best International Album and Best International Group – and will have high hopes of matching their success at the Grammys.

The Canadian group produced a timeless LP in The Suburbs, but it wasn’t just critically received.

Beyonce will join other acts currently pencilled in to play the 2011 Glastonbury Festival once they have been officially confirmed. Acts rumoured to be joining the lineup include Coldplay, Arcade Fire and U2.

Fans will, of course, remember the 2008 Glastonbury Festival where Beyonce’s husband, Jay-z headlined and shocked the fans by playing the Oasis track ‘Wonderwall’.

Glastonbury 2011 takes place at Worthy Farm in Somerset from Wednesday 22nd  to Sunday 26th June.

Kings Of Leon released their latest album in 2010, Come Around Sundown, which included hit single Radioactive. They sold out a huge summer how at London’s Hyde Park, whilst also performing at UK arenas throughout December.

Love them or hate them, Kings Of Leon will be returning to the UK live scene in 2011, with a series of outdoor summer shows. Kings Of Leon tickets are available for concerts at Slane Castle, Coventry Ricoh Arena, Sunderland Stadium Of Light, Lancashire County Cricket Club, Hyde Park in London and Murrayfield in Edinburgh.

Beirut and The Vaccines will also join Arcade Fire for the show, with general admission tickets costing £48 each.

Arcade Fire tickets for the huge outdoor summer gig will go on sale this Friday, 24th January.

The band’s latest album, The Suburbs, received wide acclaim, following on from previous releases Funeral and Neon Bible. Last year, Arcade Fire sold out shows at some of the UK’s biggest arenas, including London O2 Arena, Birmingham LG Arena and Manchester MEN Arena. They will now take their unique live show outdoors in 2011 with their first ever Hyde Park headline show.

Arcade Fire tickets for the Hyde Park concert are rumoured to go on general sale on Friday 28th January 2011.

Reading and Leeds Festivals will take place between the 26th and 28th July 2011, and are one of he biggest UK summer music events with hundreds of music and comedy acts across five stages.
