Bath host Northampton Saints this weekend at The Rec with the home side eager to continue their recent good form.

Despite finding themselves hovering perilously above the bottom of the table, Bath have strung together two good wins to give themselves fresh hope for the New Year. A crushing win over Gloucester (24-8) was followed by a more narrow victory (20-15) over Leeds Carnegie.

Both victories were over teams around them in the table which has subsequently boosted their position but their next opponents are of a different calibre.

Northampton have won their last five league matches, not having experienced defeat since going down 29-15 at Leicester on Halloween. Currently placed second in the Guinness Premiership table they beat Bath at Franklins Gardens when they met in December and the smart money is on a similar outcome this weekend.

The Saints boast the league’s top tryscorer in Chris Ashton and have their eyes set on Saracens’ place at the top of the table.

After the excitement of the Autumn Internationals , the attention of the rugby world turns back to the clubs as the Heineken Cup gets underway again this weekend.

With two rounds of the pool stages played there is still ample time for teams to pick up key points on the road to the quarter-finals. While some teams have got off to poor starts nobody as yet can be ruled out. Harlequins are clearly in a perilous position with just a losing bonus point to their name but a win against Sale Sharks could help ignite their campaign.

Likewise with Bath Rugby. They find themselves in exactly the same position as their London counterparts and they will look on Sunday’s match with Edinburgh as an opportunity to set things right. A win at The Rec will boost confidence ahead of the return trip to Scotland a week later and back to back victories would suddenly change the complexion of Pool 4. In the meantime, the other two members of the pool – Stade Francais and Ulster – will be playing each other twice with the English side hoping they take points off each other.

This would leave  Bath’s home match against Ulster in January as a must-win game and set up a pool finale with Toulouse. It’s a long shot but Bath could yet sneak into the last eight.

Doves have confirmed that they are to headline this year’s Lovebox Weekender festival due to take place at London‘s Victoria Park this coming July 18 and 19.

Also added to the bill to this years festival are fellow headliners New York Dolls and Rodrigo Y Gabriela.

The july festival had previously secured the likes of Groove Armada, Duran Duran, N.E.R.D, Florence And The Machine, Simian Mobile Disco, Noah And The Whale and VV Brown.
