The production will reside at London Coliseum throughout June and July 2012, after its successful run at Manchester International Festival this year.</p><p>Doctor Dee, an opera created by Gorillaz and Blur star Albarn, documents the life of John Dee, the 16th century astronomer and consultant to Queen Elizabeth I. The album will be launched to help the humanitarian crisis within the Democratic Republic of Congo. Albarn will be working with the likes of Tottaly Enormous Extinict Dinosaurs and Dan The Automator in order to make the record in the very short time frame of simply a week.</p><p>Albarn has a history of doing charity work, and this new project combines his philanthropic side with his interest in Africa.</p><p>Damon Albarn will be performing in Doctor Dee: An English Opera next Summer.</p><p><a

isPermaLink="false">http://www.tixdaq.com/news/?p=20779</guid> <description><![CDATA[Dr Dee to play in London next Summer]]></description> <content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>The career of former Blur frontman Damon Albarn has taken many interesting twists and turns over the years, but few could have predicted the plans of his latest project.</p><p>The Gorillaz and Blur star has now started his own opera, Dr Dee which documents the life of John Dee, the 16th century astronomer and consultant to Queen Elizabeth I.</p><p>Albarn plays songs from a high up platform looking down upon the stage action and singing about the events below.</p><p>It may seem as though the move is rather a risky venture, but critics have given very positive reviews of early showings of the opera.</p><p>Paul Vallely from the Independent gave the show 4 stars and stated &#8220;Albarn and the director Rufus Norris have created something thrilling and visually stunning.&#8221;</p><p>Stephen Pritchard from the Guardian was slightly less praising but still commented, &#8220;it already deserves a gold medal for sheer imagination and invention.&#8221;</p><p>The show has just finished playing at the Manchester International Festival and will be running at the English Natural Opera next Summer.</p><p><strong><a

The studio, opened by the Kinks in 1971, has played host to Blur, Elvis Costello, Bombay Bicycle Club and Arctic Monkeys. Davies recently sparked rumours that the sale may be delayed and potentially even cancelled, saying, &#8220;It was up for sale but I&#8217;ve got another record to do so we&#8217;re debating what to do now. It&#8217;s open for discussion.&#8221;</p><p>Davies is currently preparing for gigs at the Royal Festival Hall (June 19th), Hard Rock Calling supporting Bon Jovi (June 25th), and the Cornbury Music Festival (July 2nd).</p><p><strong><a

The Specials were presented with the award by Blur and Gorillaz frontman Damon Albarn, who called the band &#8220;an incredibly important part of his life&#8221;.</p><p>The Specials are to play a special gig in March to commemorate their 30th anniversary at the Royal Albert Hall. Compare and buy Massive Attack tickets online. ]]></description> <content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>Massive Attack have revealed how Blur frontman Damon Albarn cracked the whip when they recorded two songs together for the Bristol band&#8217;s new album &#8216;Heligoland.&#8217; They drafted in Albarn to work on two songs on the follow-up to 2003&#8242;s &#8217;100th Window,&#8217; but told NME.com that Albarn was initially wary of the band&#8217;s famously drawn-out methods.</p><p>&#8216;He was like, &#8216;I want to work with you, but I&#8217;m not getting sucked into some nine-year-long Bristol dope-haze.&#8221;</p><p>Heligoland is set to be released on February 8 and Massive Attack will be supporting its release with three UK shows. Massive Attack are scheduled to play shows at Newport Centre on February 8, Brighton Dome on February 9 and the Hammersmith HMV Apollo on February 11. The hugely popular festival takes place in Ireland at Punchestown Racecourse from July 8 &#8211; July 11.</p><p>Oxegen 2010 tickets will be released at 9 am on Friday morning. 2010 Oxegen tickets will be sold at the same price as they were for the 2007 Oxegen Festival &#8211; €225 for three days camping (approximately £200).</p><p>Headline acts for next year&#8217;s Oxegen Festival have yet to be announced, but some of the world&#8217;s most popular acts will undoubtedly be performing.
