The festival, which will be headlined by Bob Dylan, Suede and Peter Gabriel, takes place in Paddock Wood in Kent from June 29 – July 1. It is believed to be Ashcroft’s only UK appearance of the year.

Also joining the line-up are Kool And The Gang, The Futureheads, Gary Numan, Bellowhead, British Sea Power, King Charles, Howling Bells, Peter Hook and the Light, Gruff Rhys and a host of others.

The festival, which takes place between 29th June – 1st July in Kent, has also announced a new Powers Bar Stage and the first comedians confirmed for the Comedy Stage. The Buskers Boulevard will also feature a vast array of acts ranging from a banjo player to a bag piper.

Dench has been given the Freedom of London, which  she was ‘very honoured’ to receive “Moreover I am looking forward to being able to drive my sheep over London Bridge, and occasionally wearing a sword in public” . The council have denied Bob Dylan the freedom of the London borough of Haringey.

The folk legend owns a house in Crouch End and applied to be awarded the freedom of Haringey, which he hoped to be given live on stage this weekend when he headlines London Feis Festival.

The local council rejected the request saying ” We are grateful for the suggestion, but the freedom of the borough is usually reserved for individuals who have made an outstanding contribution to life in the borough.”

Freedom of the Borough essentially enables the recipient rights within that borough ‘exemptions from certain tolls’  Haringey council have only issued 4 since 1965.

Selected from over 200 entrants the Irish Band will perform before the rock legends on the 29th June to an estimated 35,000 strong audience, which frontman Malachy Tuohy says is bigger than they are use to but they will ‘ Just play the way we always do, people seem to like it and we always get a good reception so hopefully this will be no different’

The 200 entries were cut down to 5 applicants who had to go head-head in a liver performance before winning the gig. Riptide Movement will also perform before Bob Dylan at London’s Feis Festival this Saturday the 18th of June.

Unpublished, original lyrics of Bob Dylan will be auction at Christies New York later this month on June the 23rd.

The lyrics are taken from the period 1964 – 1966, a time known for being one of Dylans most productive periods: “In that period his lyrics became deeper and more personal, while his songs moved away from the acoustic, folk-inflected style, and he forged a unique personal style as poet and songwriter.”

The material varies from handwritten to typed, but all have been revised with jottings and notes – in one case a crayon has been used to change lyrics around.  Last December Dylan’s ‘The Times They Are A Changing’ fetched a whopping $422,000.

After a long and successful career selling 45 million albums, enjoying 81 top ten hits, hosting a TV show with an audience of 50 million and being inducted into the Music Hall Of Fame Glen Campbell has decided to pop his feet up and relax.

Not before releasing one more album ‘Ghost On The Canvas’ will be released on August the 31st.

Glen has a queue of artists wanting to work with him on his last album. Songs on the album have been written by Jakob dylan (bob Dylan’s son), Robert Pollard from Guided By Voices and Paul Westerberg from The Replacements. Multi-platinum rock band, Incubus, will give us a taste of their new album ‘ If Not Now, When’ on June the 14th when they play a special gig at the HMV Forum.

‘If Not Now, When’ is the sixth album from Incubus, which will be released on July the 11th. The band have had legendary producer Brendan O’Brien (Bob Dylan and Pearl Jam) work with them on the album.

Lead singer Brandon Boyd admitted that this album was on a different path to previous albums and would challenge their fans :  ”This new record is different from anything that we’ve done,”  Rumours suggest the album is slightly more spacey and psychedelic compared to their earlier material.

The bands will be joined by Thecocknbullkid, Charlie Simpson and Little Comets for the Festifeel! one day event at the Water Rats venue in King’s Cross on May the 1st.

The bash, which is now in its second year, is being organised by CoppaFeel! which raises awareness of breast cancer in young people. The Water Rats is the home of Bob Dylan’s first UK gig and the first London gig Oasis ever did. Noah and the Whale tour the U.K in May.

The ‘Blowin’ In The Wind’ singer took to the stage in front of 8,000 people at RMIT University in Ho Chi Minh City, formerly known as Saigon, on Sunday evening.

The concert is part of the 69-year-old folk star’s Asia-Pacific tour, which marks 50 years since his first major performance, and on Wednesday saw him play in China for the first time.

Although The AP reports that the young crowd were largely unfamiliar with Dylan’s contribution to the anti-Vietnam War movement, older concert goers also came out in force to revel in the music legend’s timeless message of peace.

“Bob Dylan’s music opened up a path where music was used as a weapon to oppose the war in Vietnam and fight injustice and racism,” Tran Long An, vice-president of the Vietnam Composers’ Association, stated.

Arkansas native Stan Karber, who served in Vietnam from 1969 to 1971 and now resides in the country, added: “We listened to anything that spoke of peace. We called him the peace poet.”

Dylan will next perform in Hong Kong and Singapore, before moving onto Australia later this week and playing European dates in June, including the London Feis.

He apparently spoke only once directly to the crowd of some 5,000 people – mostly young Chinese though with a strong foreign presence – and that was to introduce his band.

“I was a little disappointed that he didn’t sing many of his songs because of the politics,” said Zhang Tian, 30, a Beijing lawyer. “What is the government so afraid of?”

Dylan’s gravelly voice, which made his lyrics hard to pick out even for native speakers of English, would have flummoxed many Chinese in the crowd in any case.

Promoters tried to bring Dylan to China last year, but the Culture Ministry did not give its approval, as is required for any concert in the country.

“I know his songs from karaoke, but I’m really not that familiar with him,” advertising executive Yin Yang, 24 told Billboard. “Still I think this was a historic concert and I’m glad I’ve seen him.”

In terms of the set list, Dylan omitted anything that might have overtly offended China’s Communist rulers, like “The Times They Are A-Changin.” Instead he trod a fine line between protest song and his “hits”.

The 64-year-old singer-and-actress – who shot to fame after being discovered by Rolling Stones singer Sir Mick Jagger and guitarist Keith Richards in 1964 – received the Commandeur of L’Ordre des Arts et des Lettres (Commander of the Arts and Letters) from French Minister of Culture and Communication Frederic Mitterrand.

Marianne, who divides her time between Paris and Ireland, accepted the accolade for contributing to the enrichment of the French cultural inheritance at Paris’ Le Theatre du Chatelet, where she was performing in concert.

Hampstead born Faithfull, 64, said: “I am very, very grateful to be so honoured. When a friend, Etienne Daho, was presented with an honour a few years ago I went to the ceremony but never thought I would be a recipient. Since I started coming to Paris in 1964 the French have welcomed me and been very loving.

Marianne, who also co-wrote ‘Sister Morphine’ on Stones’ album ‘Sticky Fingers’ joins the likes of Bob Dylan, Sir Michael Caine and Clint Eastwood, all of whom have been made Commandeur of L’Ordre des Arts et des Lettres in recent years.

Cowell is hoping that Cardle will emulate the success of Kasabian, Bob Dylan and Bruce Springsteen who are all signed to Columbia.

On the previous night, Friday 2nd July, ticket holders will be treated to performances from Blondie, Dr John, Los Lobos and headline act Van Morrison.

Hard Rock Calling tickets have been falling in price in recent weeks, with tickets to see Paul McCartney on the final day of the festival, Sunday 27th June, now trading from £32. In fact, it is cheaper to buy Paul McCartney tickets for his Hard Rock Calling performance than to buy tickets for any of his scheduled stadium shows. With a general admission day ticket, fans will gain full entry to the festival and can also witness performances from the likes of Crowded House, Elvis Costello and Crosby, Stills and Nash.

Hard Rock Calling takes place in Hyde Park from Friday 25th June to Sunday 27th June. Hard Rock Calling tickets for Pearl Jam’s headline performance on the Friday can also be picked up for £32. Saturday tickets for Stevie Wonder’s headline appearance start at £45.

Download Festival tickets are still available, despite the event getting under way tomorrow. Download weekend tickets are currently available on the secondary ticket market for less than £150. Music fans with download tickets will have the chance to witness headline performances from AC/DC, Rage Against the Machine and Aerosmith. Hop Farm Festival may not be the most talked about festival of the summer, but it will this year play host to the likes of Bob Dylan, Pete Doherty, Van Morrison, Laura Marling and Seasick Steve. The festival takes place in Tonbridge this July and day tickets cost around £45 each, with camping tickets costing £25 on top of that.

Isle of Wight Festival tickets:

Fans with Isle of Wight Festival tickets can expect big things this summer, with a line-up that could be considered one of the best festival bills of the summer. The event will be headlined by Jay-Z, The Strokes and Paul McCartney and there will also be appearances across the weekend from the likes of  Florence and the Machine, Blondie, Calvin Harris and Biffy Clyro.

Isle of Wight festival weekend with camping tickets can be picked up on the secondary ticket market for around £185. Alternatively, weekend tickets without camping can be bought for as little as £120.

Hard Rock Calling tickets:

Although only in it’s fourth year in 2010, Hard Rock Calling is quickly establishing itself as one of the best London festivals of the year. This year, as well as his Isle of Wight appearance, Paul McCartney will be headlining, along with Pearl Jam and Stevie Wonder. Other acts include The Hives, Jamiroquai, Crowded House, Crosby, Stills and Nash and Elvis Costello.

Although weekend tickets are not available, Hard Rock Calling day tickets are currently trading for as little as £40. That is less than the average price paid to see Paul McCartney perform at his upcoming headline shows here in the UK.

Reading and Leeds Festival tickets:

Perhaps a festival aimed more at the younger generation of festival goers, the Reading and Leeds festival boasts a huge line-up that can surely compete with that of Glastonbury. Blink 182, The Libertines, Guns N’ Roses, Arcade Fire, Dizzee Rascal and Cypress Hill will all be appearing on the main stage throughout the weekend.

Expect to pay around £230 on the secondary ticket market for a weekend ticket with camping to either Reading or Leeds. Considering the face value price was around £190 when the tickets went on sale a few months ago, it is well worth spending the extra few pounds to take advantage of the fantastic line-up.

Hop Farm Festival tickets:

Hop Farm Festival may not be the most talked about festival of the summer, but it will this year play host to the likes of Bob Dylan, Pete Doherty, Van Morrison, Laura Marling and Seasick Steve. The festival takes place in Tonbridge this July and is probably the cheapest alternative to Glastonbury this summer.

Day tickets cost around £45 each, with camping tickets costing £25 on top of that.

Gorillaz tickets:

Although not exactly a festival alternative, Gorillaz will be touring the UK in September on the back of their Glastonbury headline appearance. The band will be appearing at venues such as Glasgow SECC, Birmingham NIA, Newcastle Metro Radio Arena, Manchester MEN Arena,London O2 Arena and Dublin O2 Arena.

Gorillaz support acts for the September UK tour are yet to be announced, but expect some big names after appearances from Bobby Womack, De La Soul, Shaun Ryder and Super Furry Animals songwriter Gruff Rhys at the band’s Roundhouse shows in April. Ticket prices start at around £40.

The new album from Bob Dylan titled Together Through Life has currently sold around 3,000 more copies than the second album from The Enemy, Music For The People.

Bob Dylan is on course for achieving his first UK number one since 1970, when New Morning topped the album charts.

Number one album contenders, The Enemy, will be supporting Oasis for their UK tour along with Kasabian and Twisted Wheel.

Prodigy’s Invaders Must Die is up one place at number six whilst last week’s highest new entries, The Enemy, are down five places at seven. Kings of Leon spend their thirty third week in the UK albums chart at number eight while new albums from Ciara and Yusuf Islam make up this week’s top ten.
