The cheeky, cockney comedian has built up a strong following after years of touring the UK circuit got his big break when performing on Michael McIntyre’s Comedy Roadshow, and Mock The Week. In 2007 he was nominated for ‘Best Newcomer‘ at the Edinburgh Comedy Awards, and has since toured his sell-out show, The Out Out Tour.

Taken from today’s London Evening Standard, here are the hottest open-air gigs and festivals coming up this summer across the City of London. There is plenty to see and do, and this summer looks set to be one of London’s busiest in years, with both the elite forces of Sport and Music all converging on one City. The festival has already announced headline acts like; Bon Iver, Elbow and Paul Weller, but had kept back a few suprises for closer the time. New acts across a variety of stages were yesterday released, with some highlights being; Catherine AD, Slow Club, King Charles, Smoke Fairies and Of Monsters And Men.

At The Lake Stage, BBC Radio 1 DJ and champion of new music, Huw Stephens has been asked to curate his own line-up. Headline slots go to sonically challenging, electro-indie group Clock Opera, while other acts include:

Alongside all the top notch musical activity, Latitude has proved its diversity, by including a number of other productions, including film, theatre and comedy.

Sadler’s Wells will present an excerpt from the hugely popular Sadler’s Wells Production, The Most Incredible Thing on The Waterfront Stage. A collaboration between pop legends Pet Shop Boys and choreographer/director Javier De Frutos, The Most Incredible Thing, won the Evening Standard’s inaugural Beyond Theatre Award after its premiere in 2011, and recently enjoyed a return run at the theatre this spring.

On the Film and Music Arena Turner Prize-winning artist Jeremy Deller and co-director Nick Abraham present their new film The Bruce Lacey Experience. Three years in the making, the film examines Lacey’s remarkable legacy as an all-round cultural chameleon. The screening will be followed by a Q&A with Jeremy Deller. The Royal Albert Hall arrives at Latitude presenting the innovative violinist Hahn-Bin. One of the world’s most exciting and original classical musicians, Hahn-Bin is not only a prodigious talent but a style visionary who recently graced the cover of fashion bible i-D Magazine. Hahn-Bin recently launched The Renaissance of Classical Music, a project which aims to bring the style into mainstream culture.

In the Comedy Arena, Jack Dee, Brian Cox, Tim Minchin and others will be joined by Phill Jupitus, as well as multi award-winning, fringe sell-out, mind reader who can’t read minds, Chris Cox and revered Canadian stand-up Tony Law will be regaling audiences with his time travelling exploits in the company of his infamous sausage dog.

With the fall in the number of traditional summer festivals in the UK this year, Latitude is surely one of the hottest tickets in town for those who want to while the days away baking in a sweaty tent and drinking warm cider.

The festival, which will be headlined by Bob Dylan, Suede and Peter Gabriel, takes place in Paddock Wood in Kent from June 29 – July 1. It is believed to be Ashcroft’s only UK appearance of the year.

Also joining the line-up are Kool And The Gang, The Futureheads, Gary Numan, Bellowhead, British Sea Power, King Charles, Howling Bells, Peter Hook and the Light, Gruff Rhys and a host of others.

The festival, which takes place between 29th June – 1st July in Kent, has also announced a new Powers Bar Stage and the first comedians confirmed for the Comedy Stage. The Buskers Boulevard will also feature a vast array of acts ranging from a banjo player to a bag piper.

The jaunt, which will coincide with the publication of his autobiography, includes two dates in his native Liverpool.

McIntyre appeared as a judge alongside Amanda Holden and David Hasselhoff throughout the last series, but ITV have now confirmed that he will not return.

“We wish him all the best and look forward to working with him again,” an ITV spokesman said.

A source added: “Michael has been weighing it up for a while as he does like the show and enjoyed being on the panel, but his first love is comedy and he wanted to embark on a tour and concentrate on that.”

Michael McIntyre tickets are available for the comedian’s huge 2012 UK tour, set to take place throughout August, September, October, November and December next year.

Life’s Too Short will air this Autumn on BBC 2 and is about a dwarf talent agency. The show will also feature a host of stars from Johnny Depp to Helena Bonham Carter and Sandra Bullock.

Fans of Gervais are also hopeful that he will once again tour the UK with his stand up show, but as of yet no Ricky Gervais tour dates have been announced.

The show will take place on November 15th, preceding the next seven performances at the venue. The Roadrunner tour, which is already underway, includes over fifty dates, and will continue throughout September, October and November. The Telegraph recently applauded the show, saying: “This is already the must-see comedy event of the autumn.”

Tonight will see the hit comedian perform at Bournemouth International Centre for the next six nights, before he moves to Brighton. In total there are 66 shows remaining, with the tour continuing into November. The Roadrunner show has been described as “Masterful, precise, physical comedy” while The Daily Telegraph says of Evans: “For gags per minute and unflagging energy, he’s unbeatable.”

The three-day event is held at Bramham Park from Friday 26th – Sunday 28th August. Friday will see Muse headline the main stage, whilst on Saturday My Chemical Romance take the top spot, and Sunday sees a joint headline position shared by The Strokes and Pulp.

Life’s Too Short focuses on the life of fictional actor Warwick Davis and will have lots of cameos from stars. Last week it was confirmed that Johnny Depp, Cat Deeley and Sting will be on the show amongst others. And today it has been revealed that Liam Neeson and Helena Bonham Carter will also star.

Life’s Too Short will air later this year and will be sure to be another comedy hit from Ricky Gervais. Fans are also hopeful that Gervais will tour with his stand up show again, although as of yet no dates have been confirmed.

Hit The Road Jack, will see Whitehall perform at UK venues up and down the country, but he will have no pre-arranged accommodation forcing him to stay at strangers’ houses en route. In each episode he will also be visiting the houses of comedians and celebrities as he travels up and down the UK. The show will be broadcasted on Channel 4 later this year.

Jack Whitehall will be first touring the UK with his Let’s Not Speak of This Again show which kicks off at Edinburgh’s International Conference Centre on August 26th.

The comedian will appear at the capital’s Leicester Square Theatre on October 15th. His stand-up style is regarded as unconventional, delighting audiences with wordplay, live drawings and a variety of musical instruments. He has written for hit American shows including Last Night with Conan O’Brien and Saturday Night Live, and has won the Perrier Comedy Award at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival. The special London show will provide UK fans with a rare opportunity to see the acclaimed comedian.

Evans will play 4 shows at Colston Hall starting on Friday (July 29th) before he moves on to his extensive UK tour which will feature performances at London’s O2 Arena and Manchester’s MEN Arena.

The tour is hugely anticipated and follows on from Lee Evans receiving outstanding critical reviews for his warm up shows in Oxford. Lee Evans is well known for his fun loving style of comedy and his slant on married life which has wowed audiences and kept them coming back for more.

The sitcom focuses on the story of an atheist who wakes up in Heaven, and although Gervais will not be the show’s protagonist, he will make guest appearances. Fans are very much excited by the news of Gervais’s recent activity and he is currently having much success in the US.

Gervais was also nominated for an Emmy for his hosting of the Golden Globes this year to which he responded on his website, “I’d like to win just for the speech I could do. Ha ha. Won’t happen but it’s nice to be nominated.”

Gervais does not have any forthcoming shows, but fans are hopeful he will return to the stand up arena soon.

McIntyre seems to be loathed by many of his fellow comedians. The Mail Online has reported that comedian Stewart Lee has stated that McIntyre “is spoon-feeding his audience warm diarrhoea”.

At the British Comedy Awards earlier this year McIntyre suffered much abuse at the hands of his fellow comics. Following this incident, McIntyre told the BBC’s Kirsty Young that “It just made me feel awful, because I am there with my wife and she has gone out and bought a dress. And it is my big night and I won, and yet the overriding experience was that of nastiness. For what reason, I don’t know. I don’t know what I was doing — just making people laugh.”

Despite this criticism by other comedians, McIntyre will be touring the year. His tour kicks off on August 22nd at Cardiff’s Motorpoint Arena.

It has been reported that there were huge queues for the Film and Music Arena to see comic star Steve Coogan and Rob Brydon talk about their TV series The Trip, answering questions from screenwriter Richard Curtis.

Latitude is renowned for its hugely diverse line-up, with leading names from the worlds of comedy, theatre, film, art, literature, poetry, cabaret, fashion and dance appearing on the 18 stages and areas throughout this weekend.

Organiser Festival Republic has said that it expects to make a profit from the festival for the first time this year.

The National Theatre announced its production would be performed at the Adelphi Theatre, and will run from November 8th 2011 to February 25th 2012.

The show features James Corden in the starring role, and is an adaptation of the 1743 Italian comedy Servant of Two Masters. The Guardian described The National Theatre’s adaptation as: “A triumph of visual and verbal comedy. One of the funniest production’s in the National’s history.”

Taking place in the grounds of the Old Royal Naval College in Greenwich, the festival can be found within a custom designed Big Top, filled with hilarious comedy, live music, bars and cabaret. The festival runs for a full week, from Monday September 5th to Sunday September 11th.

Stephen K Amos will close the festival on the Sunday, offering visitors a chance to enjoy his unique, truly exuberant comedy style. Using observational, quick witted and delightful humour, Amos has left audiences laughing all over the world, and is particularly renowned for his hilarious take on the absurd cultural differences that exist within society.

The film sees an infusion of music and comedy with Parton playing the role of a gospel choir leader. The plot of the film centres around the efforts to stop a small gospel choir from being closed down.

Parton explained to Billboard that “I just did a movie with Queen Latifah, Joyful Noise, that comes out January 12. So if that movie does good, maybe I’ll do more.”

The American singer-songwriter, spoken word artist and actor will embark on The Long March tour on January 12th in Manchester’s Bridgewater Hall. It will conclude at the De La Warr Pavilion, Bexhill on January 21st.

The shows will be spoken word, in which Rollins ranges from stand-up comedy to musings on his past experiences. His spoken word shows have been subject to a great many positve reviews.

Rollins will also be performing a small selection of shows in Ireland and Scotland this August.

Yesterday it was announced that the hit comedian would present a 1-hour special of his Comedy Roadshow on Christmas day. Each Comedy Roadshow performance features a selection of veteran and up-and-coming comedians, as well as a routine from McIntyre himself. As of yet, the line-up for the Christmas show has not been announced.

The nation’s favourite comedian will be touring the country in 2012throughout August, September, October, November and December this year, and whilst tickets are selling fast there are still many available.

Hop Farm Festival live streaming is available all weekend.

Taking place over the weekend from today (July 1st) to Sunday (July 3rd), the festival will see headline performances from Eagles (Friday), Morrissey (Saturday) and Prince (Sunday). Also appearing over the three days are Bryan Ferry, Brandon Flowers, Iggy & The Stooges, Lou Reed, Tinie Tempah and The Human League.

A great line-up of new and established comedians will perform each night in the Comedy Tent, which opens from 11pm each night. The Late Nite Comedy Show features hilarious performances from Stewart Lee, Sean Hughes, Simon Munnery and many others. Also entertaining festival goers after the main bands have finished each evening from 11pm are the Ultimate Indie Disco and live acoustic performances on the Camp Acoustic Stage.

Moran, who became a mainstream success in the sitcom Black Books alongside Bill Bailey, has also appeared in films such as Shaun Of The Dead and Run, Fatboy, Run. His appearance at the Suffolk event will take place as part of his current UK tour.

Latitude Festival will take place at Henham Park from the 15th to 17th July, and will again boast a line-up full of intriguing music, comedy and literature acts.

The National will headline the festival on the Friday evening, Paolo Nutini will top the bill on Saturday and Suede will close the festival on the Sunday night. Other acts also confirmed to appear include Bright Eyes, Paloma Faith, The Cribs, My Morning Jacket, Glasvegas, Hurts, Bombay Bicycle Club, Foals, Eels, The Vaccines, Echo & The Bunnymen and Lykke Li.

The second series of the show is currently airing on BBC1 on Saturday nights, and the announcement of the Christmas special underlines the current popularity  of stand-up comedy on television, as well as McIntyre himself.

McIntyre said: ‘It’s such an honour for the show to be on Christmas Day and to be introducing some of the biggest names in comedy to entertain a turkey-filled nation slumped on their sofas.’

BBC entertainment commissioner Mark Linsey added: ‘Who better to bring some Christmas cheer to BBC One viewers than Michael. He is such a favourite with our audiences and this show is bound to be a real festive treat.’

Each night The Late Nite Comedy Show will take place in the comedy tent, opening its doors at 11pm and staying open until 2am. Performing at the festival are some veterans of the comedy circuit, as well as a great selection of rising stars.

One of the most sought-after acts in the UK, Stewart Lee will be performing on Saturday night (July 2nd). Famous for co-writing and directing Jerry Springer – The Opera, Lee is highly regarded for his quick-witted, observational humour and amusing interplay with the audience, and routines that for its duration builds up to a hilarious climax rarely matched by his contemporarys. Lee is often told he resembles Morrissey – something he has capitalised upon on his website which states: “Hop Farm Festival at about 2am. Iggy Pop is opening for me.” – a reference to Iggy and the Stooges occupying the slot on the main stage before Morrissey headlines.

Sean Hughes is another of Britain’s comedy veterans. Famous for his dark, often cleverly sarcastic and wry humour, Hughes began his career in 1987 and became the youngest winner of The Perrier Award, and from 1996 to 2002 was a team captain on Never Mind The Buzzcocks.

Simon Munnery is a satirical, often political comedian highly praised for his performances that often border on surreal. He often appears with homemade clothes, “dramatic” facial hair and a hat made from a kettle, ensuring a truly memorable and hilarious set.

Other acts set to appear in the comedy tent include Isy Suttie, Terry Alderton, Carl Donnelly, Abandonman and Nick Revell.

The Jason Manford UK Tour starts on Friday 24th June in the Warwick Arts Centre, Coventry. His last show will be in Dublin on September 17th. The comedian is famous for his observational, satirical style, and cites Billy Connolly, Tommy Cooper and contemporary Michael Mcintyre amongst his influences. Born in Salford, Manchester in 1981, the comedian became popular when hosting a breakfast show on XFM Manchester and during his stint as a team captain on quiz show 8 Out of 10 Cats. He has been the winner of many awards, including North West City Life Comedian of the Year, Chortle Award for Best Breakthrough Act and Best Stand-up on the North West Circuit.

In November 2010 Manford announced he was giving up comedy and touring to concentrate on his family, so this tour is the last chance to see his hilarious live show.

The performance, now showing at the West End Wyndham’s Theatre, takes Shakespeare’s classic and sets it in 1980s Gibraltar. One of the playwright’s later works, this romantic comedy makes the most of the excellent onstage chemistry between Tennant and Tate, who are together for the first time since starring in Doctor Who. Director Josie Rourke has created a production the Telegraph describes as having a “freshness and wit about it that is so often irresistible.” With Tennant playing the role of Benedick, a soldier returning from fighting abroad, and Tate in the role of Beatrice, Benedick’s love interest, a mixture of hilarious wit, surprise and love make for a captivating performance.

Supported by Jonathan Coy playing Leonardo, Tom Bateman as Claudio, Elliot Levey as Don John and John Ramm as Dogberry, this retelling of the classic may surprise traditionalists, who will find themselves laughing at the mischievous comedy, but enthralled by elements of chilling violence that only serve to immerse the audience further in Rourke’s highly accomplished production.

The star, known for appearances in recent hit television shows such as The Trip and Gavin and Stacey is to perform at a number of UK venues throughout October and November 2011.

One Man, Two Guvnors is The National’s latest offering. It is Richard Bean’s adaptation of Carlo Goldoni’s eighteenth century play, The Servant of Two Masters.  Bean has relocated the Italian comedy to 60s Brighton. It is quite a surprise turn from the National as it is funny, seriously funny, perhaps the funniest production the National has ever staged – it is honestly wet yourself funny.

Starring tv actor, presenter and all round ‘funny man’ James Corden, who plays Francis Henshall, an unemployed musician who decides he can make his fortune by working for not one but two crooks.

The hilarity of the play lies in the way Bean and director Nicholas Hytner have sown the visual and verbal comedy together. There is a familiarity to the rhythm of the gags which sings of British humour. There is a very clever slapstick to it:  ”love passes through marriage quicker than s**t through a small dog”.

James Corden can for many be a big pill to swallow. Unapologetically arrogant, smug and with an over inflated ego he’s not someone you can just ‘gloss over’ but it’s important to remember where his roots lie. Nicholas Hytner propelled Corden to stardom in Alan Bennett’s The History Boys at the National Theatre.

Whether returning to the stage or the union with Hytner, Corden is fantastic as Francis. His nonchalance on stage sweeps aside the complex and difficulty of the role. We see Cordens gift of interweaving physical comedy with sensitivity and touching gentleness. He effortlessly involves the audience, inviting them in but still letting the characters hunger and desperation play through.

He returns to his previous form of Gavin and Stacey before stardom polluted his brain and he gave the world monstrosities like Lesbian Vampire Killers (which was named “the worst film of the year” by the Observer) and Horne & Corden. Remember the first Corden and ignore the rest of it, ignore it. He’s is brilliant, the play is brilliant and you would be sorry to miss it.

If you really can’t stomach the thought of encouraging Corden’s ego then go for the rest of the cast, who are equally as mesmerizing in their talent and comic timing:  ’Green Wing’s Oliver Chris and  Neil Morrissey’s yuppie brother in ‘Rain Man’, West End stalwart Martyn Ellis, Trevor Laird who played the drug dealer in ‘Quadrophenia’ and Jemima Rooper who mans up to play one of the Guvnors, a sister in disguise. All performing fantastic hands.

One Man, Two Guvnors is a play of epic hilarity and enjoyed from start to finish, it really should not be missed.

Speaking Shortlist, the comedian said, “Most of the time, when you hear the dirty words sprinkled in, it’s someone who’s lost and scared and uses swearing to save their tail.

“It’s a style thing for me. It’s not a question of not wanting to be offensive – it’s just my approach.”

Seinfeld made his name with his self-titled long-running US sitcom, and has gone on to become extremely successful on the US stand-up circuit.

The star is coming to the UK for a one-off gig at London’s O2 Arena next month, with Jerry Seinfeld tickets available to buy online.

King retired from his 25-year-long CNN talk show last year, and is one of the most well-known television personalities to have appeared in the US in recent years.

The London audience will also have a unique opportunity to ask their own questions to the talk show icon, in a Q&A session to take place after the stand-up performance.

The Essex singer stood in for Comedy Dave on the Radio 1 breakfast show, and has now asked that the favour is returned.

Murs, 26, told the Daily Star: “I loved joining Chris as Dave’s replacement, even if he did take the piss. Some listeners called up asking for Dave back, but I said I was only filling in.

“Dave owes me one so he should come on stage on tour. Chris said he would, too.”

The singer performed the track as a part of a three-song set for a benefit gig curated by comedy actor Simon Pegg, at the Boogaloo bar.

Martin kicked off his performance with an unreleased Coldplay song called ’Wedding Bells’. Although he has played the song live before Martin confirmed that the track “is not going on our record”, going on to describe it as “soppy”.

Following the track, a girl in the crowd asked him to cover the Oasis’ 1995 classic ‘Wonderwall’.

“I’ll do it,” Martin replied. “But only if you do it with me.” He then brought the audience member up onstage and performed the track.

The singer was then joined by Pegg on harmonica for ’A Rush Of Blood To The Head’ track ’Green Eyes’.

Pegg had organised the gig as a tribute to the pub’s former landlord John Parkhouse, who recently passed away.

The My Violent Torpedo of Truth: Defeat Is Not An Option show failed to keep the attention of the 4,700 in the crowd, with some walking out after just 15 minutes.

Sheen resorted to saying: “Come on guys, you paid to see me. You gave me your hard-earned money without knowing what this f**king show was about.”

In a complete turnaround, Sheen received a standing ovation for his performance on the second night.

Morrison said: “I love Adele. ‘Turning Tables’ is one of my favourite songs right now. I don’t know if she’s an actress but I’d love to hear her music on Glee.”

On the possibility of collaborating with Adele on the show or through his own musical projects, he added: “It would be my extreme honour to work with her. I think her voice is from another planet. She’s so amazing.”

Earlier this year, Adele admitted that she is a big fan of Glee, saying: “I love Glee – love, love, love Glee.”

However, she added that she has been put off appearing on TV shows after looking “a mug” during a guest appearance on Ugly Betty in 2009.

The hip-hop star will appear in the forthcoming ‘High School’, alongside ‘Black and Yellow’ rapper Wiz Khalifa.

Discussing the film, Snoop says the big-screen comedy is “a little something for the stoners”.

Explaining how he came to work with Wiz, the rapper shared with Billboard: “He called me to be on a remix. From the remix we became close friends and spent time together. We made six or seven songs and created an idea to do a movie and a soundtrack, and just a bond – to build a friendship and build a brotherhood.”

‘I was a big fan of Cee-Lo and wanted to work with him for a long time. He was on Travie (McCoy)’s album, which I produced, he’s on my album.

Known as one of the greatest stand-up comedians of all time, Seinfeld is due to appear in London for the first time in over a decade. The event at the O2 Arena on June 3rd is already tipped to be the comedy event of the year, and a positive reception could lead to another show.
