Mumford & Sons Review: Sigh No More band rock Eden Project with Doves

Mumford & Sons have enjoyed quite a year so far. Having achieved the rare feat of appealing to both Radio One and Radio Two listeners at the same time, it ought to be no surprise that the London group have seen a surge in popularity – but to do so on such a grand scale is mightily impressive.

They played an Eden Session at Cornwall’s famous complex of biomes The Eden Project recently in support of indie stalwarts Doves, and after opening with album title track Sigh No More, songs such as The Cave, Little Lion Man and Roll Away Your Stone went down a treat with the crowd. Frontman Marcus Mumford announced to the crowd at one point that it was their first ever show in Cornwall, but one got the feeling that it would not be their last.

The Eden Session only served to whet fans’ appetite for more shows, but luckily the band have just announced some: Mumford & Sons tickets are currently on sale for their headline tour of the UK in October 2010 – as well as their multiple festival appearances. A full list of live dates is below:

Mumford & Sons tickets available for extra tour date

Mumford & Sons tickets are now available for the band’s extra HMV Apollo show. The band will now perform on Saturday 9th October as well as on the previous day.

Mumford & Sons are also scheduled to perform in Glasgow, Manchester, Brighton, Nottingham and Bristol throughout October as well as multiple festival appearances.

Throughout a busy summer, the band will appear at Eden Sessions supporting Doves, Hop Farm Festival, T In The Park, Oxegen and Reading and Leeds festivals.

V Festival weekend tickets: Kings of Leon and Kasabian

This year’s V Festival line-up is arguably it’s best yet, with Kings of Leon and Kasabian headlining two epic days of music.

Joining Kings of Leon on Saturday 21st August at Hylands Park, and Sunday 22nd August at Weston Park will be Stereophonics, Paul Weller, Editors, The Courteeners, Passion Pit, Feeder and David Guetta.

Supporting Kasabian at Weston Park on Saturday 21st August, and Hylands Park on Sunday 22nd August will be Faithless, The Kooks, Paolo Nutini, Madness, Seasick Steve, Skunk Anansie, Pixie Lott and The Prodigy.

Acts also confirmed to appear at both venues across the weekend include Florence and The Machine, Doves, Calvin Harris, White Lies, Jamie T and Scouting for Girls.

V Festival tickets are widely available from fan-to-fan ticket exchange websites. Day tickets listed on Ticketmaster partner site, GetMeIn are currently trading between £100 and £150. Weekend tickets are available on Viagogo from prices starting at £220.

Diana Vickers announced as Scouting For Girls support act

Scouting For Girls achieved a first UK number one in April with This Ain’t A Love Song, the first single from their second album Everybody Wants To Be On TV. The London band have just revealed that the support act for their concert at High Lodge in Thetford Forest on July 8th 2010 will be another chart topper: X Factor semi-finalist Diana Vickers.

Diana Vickers reached the top spot with her debut single, Once, just a few weeks later and her album Songs From The Tainted Cherry Tree followed it to number one in mid-May.

Scouting For Girls tickets are available for all their remaining dates, including the Thetford Forest gig, which will be part of the Forestry Commission Tour and prices begin at £26 from Gigantic.

The Forestry Commission was set up to protect and expand Britain’s most beautiful woodland areas, and other acts supporting the initiative include JLS, Blondie, Katie Melua, The Saturdays, Status Quo, Doves, James Morrison, Keane and Simply Red.

In fact, Forestry Commission Tour tickets are also available for all these acts, with Doves tickets the cheapest at £16 from Ticketmaster subsidiary GetMeIn.

Revenue from the concerts will go towards the regeneration of UK forests.

Stereophonics Cardiff tickets trading below face value

Stereophonics tickets for their upcoming show at Cardiff City Stadium can currently be bought on the secondary ticket market at below face value. Stereophonics will perform the homecoming show on Saturday 5th June 2010 and will be supported by Doves and Kids In Glass Houses.

General admission tickets for the gig originally cost around £35 from primary ticket vendors when going on sale, but are now trading at between £23 and £200 on the secondary ticket market.

There are over 200 tickets yet to be sold, 35 of which are available below face value.

Stereophonics support act announced for May and June UK shows

Stereophonics have announced that their support act for shows at Aberdeen Exhibition Centre on May 30th, Bournemouth International Centre on June 1st, Brighton Centre on June 2nd and Cardiff City Stadium on 5th June will be fellow Welsh band, Kids In Glass Houses. Doves will also provide support for the Cardiff gig.

Following a successful arena tour earlier this year in conjunction with their latest studio album Keep Calm & Carry On, Stereophonics are set to continue to cement their reputation as one of Britain’s biggest and most popular live bands.

Stereophonics tickets for their Aberdeen show are currently trading at around £30, as are tickets for their Bournemouth show.

Stereophonics tickets for their performance at Brighton Centre on June 2nd are currently trading between £20 and £300, with the cheapest tickets being general admission.

Tickets for their huge show at Cardiff City Stadium can currently be picked up on the secondary ticket market for just £25, with over 400 available here at Tixdaq.com for you to compare.

Vampire Weekend to open this year’s Eden Sessions

Vampire Weekend have been confirmed as the opening act at this year’s Eden Sessions at The Eden Project in Cornwall. The popular US group played at the event two years ago and will return this summer on June 24th.

Vampire Weekend join previously announced headline acts Jack Johnson, Mika, Doves, Calvin Harris and Paolo Nutini.

Vampire Weekend tickets will go on sale on Tuesday 27th April, whilst Eden Sessions tickets for all other days of the event are already available.

Doves have evolved a great deal more than many bands. In the 1990s they were a dance act called Sub Sub, who reached number 3 in the UK singles chart with their song Ain’t No Love (Ain’t No Use). Then their studio burnt down. The group had to start afresh, and instead of picking up where they left off they began to craft a melancholy alternative rock sound and renamed themselves Doves. Debut album Lost Souls proved a big hit with both fans and critics, and so finally Doves had found their niche.

Doves embark on a UK tour this spring, including a date in support of the Forestry Commission and an Eden Session at the Eden Project, as well as appearances at RockNess, Isle Of Wight and V Festivals! Tickets are on sale now, and a full list of dates is below:

Paolo Nutini to headline fifth Eden Session

Paolo Nutini has been confirmed as the headline act for the fifth Eden Session this summer, and the Scottish singer-songwriter joins Jack Johnson, Mika, Doves and Calvin Harris in playing the Cornwall venue. The Eden Sessions are a spectacular series of events that take place in the unique setting of Cornwall’s Eden Project, a collection of Biomes which includes the largest greenhouse in the world. Pendulum to headline Clash Arena at RockNess

Pendulum have been confirmed as the Friday night headliners in the Clash Arena at this year’s RockNess festival. The Aussie ravers have been announced as the latest big-name act at this summer’s event in Clune Farm, Inverness.

Many weren’t expecting such a huge name for the Clash Arena slot, but organisers have wowed festival fans once again with the addition of Pendulum to an already impressive line-up.

Other names already confirmed to entertain the RockNess crowd include Fatboy Slim, The Strokes, Leftfield, Vampire Weekend, The Strokes, Friendly Fires, Ian Brown and Doves.

Doves, Calvin Harris confirmed for V Festival 2010

Doves and Calvin Harris have been added to the line-up for this summer’s V Festival. Harris is set to perform in the main arena whilst Manchester band, Doves will be stepping onto the 4Music stage.

The line-up for this year’s V festival is getting stronger and stronger as more names are announced. Headlining the festival will be the ever-popular Kings Of Leon and BRIT Award-winning British indie rock band Kasabian, other names performing include Florence and the Machine, The Prodigy, Stereophonics and The Kooks.

Forestry Commission Tour gets underway in June

The untouched areas of Britain’s countryside are an incredibly beautiful environment for many species of wildlife and plants. However, humanity seems to be doing its best to destroy this part of the country through urbanisation, litter and neglect. The Forestry Commission is a non-ministerial government department which was set up to ensure that Britain’s forests are protected and expanded in the best possible way, and part of this mission is funded by the Forestry Commission Tour.

The Forestry Commission decided the best way to combat the issue of receding forests was to try and get some of music’s top acts to perform in Britain’s stunning settings, and so the tour was founded.

Vampire Weekend confirmed as RockNess Lineup begins to take shape

Vampire Weekend have been added to the lineup for RockNess festival at Loch Ness this June. The festival, which only took place for the first time in 2006, has grown in popularity every year since its conception, and calls itself “the only festival with its own monster”, due to the much-debated presence of the loch’s very own Nessie!

Doves are to perform at a forest concert in the summer as part of the Forestry Commission’s Live Music series. The Manchester three-piece – who released fourth album ‘Kingdom of Rust’ in 2009 – will stage a show at Thetford Forest, Nr Brandon, Suffolk on Saturday 12th June.

James and the Doves have been added to the 2010 Isle of Wight Festival line up. The festival is set to take place between June 11 and 13 at Seaclose Park, Newport.

The 2010 Isle of Wight Festival is set to be headlined by Jay-Z and The Strokes. The final headline act is yet to be confirmed, but the Isle of Wight Festival organisers have assured fans that they will not be disappointed. Other acts on the bill include Blondie, Ocean Colour Scene, The Saturdays, and Pink.

Doves and Jarvis Cocker added Glastonbury Festival line-up

It has recently been revealed that Jarvis Cocker, Doves and Echo And The Bunnymen will be three acts set to perform live in the John Peel Stage at the 2009 Glastonbury Festival.

Doves are up first. Doves will headline the John Peel stage on Friday 26 June. Jarvis Cocker will headline the tent on the Saturday (June 27), while Echo And The Bunnymen will bring things to a close on the Sunday night (June 28). Echo And The Bunnymen are planning to perform their 1984 album, Ocean Rain, in the John Peel stage at the 2009 Glastonbury Festival.

A number of top acts to have already been announced for the 2009 Glastonbury Festival include Blur, Bruce Springsteen, Franz Ferdinand, Kasabian, Lily Allen and Neil Young.

A number of this year’s Glastonbury Festival headliners are also performing live elsewhere in the UK this year.

Britpop legends, Blur, play a series of concerts this summers. Blur are set to perform at Southend Cliffs Pavilion on June 21 and Wolverhampton Civic Hall on June 24. Blur then play a huge show at Manchester Evening News Arena (June 26) before performing back -to-back concerts at London Hyde Park (July 2 & 3). Hundreds of Blur tickets are available to compare online for all of their forthcoming shows.

Doves have confirmed that they are to headline this year’s Lovebox Weekender festival due to take place at London‘s Victoria Park this coming July 18 and 19.

Also added to the bill to this years festival are fellow headliners New York Dolls and Rodrigo Y Gabriela.

The july festival had previously secured the likes of Groove Armada, Duran Duran, N.E.R.D, Florence And The Machine, Simian Mobile Disco, Noah And The Whale and VV Brown.

Doves miss out on No.1 by 10 copies!

Lady GaGa has held off Doves‘ bid for the Number One spot in the UK album by less than ten copies it has been reported.

The Manchester trio went in at Number Two with Kingdom Of Rust’, their first album in four years, while the US singer stayed at the top for a second week running with her debut album ‘The Fame’. Doves previously scored two Number One albums with ‘Some Cities’ and their 2002 LP ‘The Last Broadcast’.

Elsewhere in the UK album charts this week Kings Of Leon slipped to Number Three with ‘Only By The Night’ while Bat For Lashes went in at Number Five with ‘Two Suns’ and Yeah Yeah Yeahs were in at nine with their third album ‘It’s Blitz.

A number of this week’s chart challengers are also on tour this year.

Doves due to embark on their 2009 tour this month and tickets are still available to compare for all of the dates. The Doves tour kicks off at the Cambridge Corn Exchange on April 15. The Doves tour also visits Belfast Ulster Hall (April 19), Glasgow Barrowland (April 22), Manchester Academy (April 26) and O2 Academy Brixton (May 1 & 2). The Doves tour comes to a close on May 5 at Nottingham Rock City. Doves tickets are available to compare from £18.

Kings of Leon play a series of massive shows at the London O2 Arena and the Manchester Evening News Arena in June. Kings of Leon tickets are available from £90.

The massive U2 360 tour kicks off in August calling at London Wembley Stadium (August 14), Glasgow Hampden Park (August 18), Don Valley Stadium (August 20) and Cardiff Millennium Stadium (August 22). U2 tickets are are available to compare with prices from £80.

Doves confirm Glastonbury slot

It has recently been confirmed that Doves will perform at this year’s Glastonbury Festival. Doves have been asked to top the bill on the John Peel stage.

Other headline acts set to play the 2009 Glastonbury Festival include Blur and Bruce Springsteen.

Glasvegas, Doves and Eagles of Death Metal to join Oxegen 2009

Glasvegas, Doves Nine Inch Nails, Pet Shop Boy’s and Jane’s Addiction have been confirmed to perform at Ireland’s Oxegen festival this summer.

The Saturdays, Eagles Of Death Metal, Dreadzone, God Is An Astronaut, Tom Middleton,Aeroplane, Gary Go and Hudson Mohawke have also been added to the line-up for the bash, set to take place at Punchestown Racecourse in Ireland on July 10 and 12.

Oxegen 2009 is promising to be one of the stand out festivals of the year with the likes of Lily Allen, Keane,and The Specials joining acts such as The Killers, Bloc Party, Blur, Elbow Fight Like Apes, Jason Mraz, Katy Perry, Kings of Leon, Nick Cave And The Bad Seeds, Pendulum, Pete Doherty, Razorlight, Snow Patrol, The Killers, The Script, The Ting Tings, White Lies and Yeah Yeah Yeahs.

Fans will also have the many more chance to see Oxegen fesitival acts as many will be on tour this summer including, The Killers, Razorlight, Kings of Leon, Snow Patrol, Blur, White lies, Elbow, Ting Tings and Pete Doherty.

The Killers summer tour starts in Belfast at the Odyssey Arena (February 21), before moving on to venues including London’s O2 Arena (February 23 &24), Cardiff International Arena (February 28), Aberdeen Exhibition Centre (March 5) and the Newcastle Metro Radio Arena (March 7). The Killers tour comes to a close with two back to back shows at the Manchester Evening News Arena (March 9 & 10). Killers tickets are currently available from £56.

Snow Patrol are currently on the road with a mammoth Snow Patrol tour featuring performances at the Glasgow SECC (February 25), Liverpool Echo Arena (March 6), Cardiff International Arena (March and Nottingham Trent FM Arena (March 12). Tickets for Blur’s long awaited return show at Manchester MEN (June 26) Arena are available this morning (February 13) this show will be followed by the already sold out Blur concerts at London’s Hyde Park (July 2 , 3). Blur tickets are available from £25.

The White Lies also embark on their own UK tour in May. The White Lies tour kicks off at Leeds University (May 3) before stopping at Queen Margaret Union, Glasgow (May 4), Manchester Academy (May 5) and Heaven in London (May 7 & 8). Loads of White Lies tickets are still available from £17.

Elbow will set off on tour in Brighton Dome (February 26) continuing on to perform dates at Southend Cliffs Pavilion (March 1), Bournemouth Solent Hall (March 2), Sheffield Academy (March 3), Newcastle Academy (March 5), Edinburgh Corn Exchange (March 6) Blackpool Empress Ballroom (March 7), Llandudno Arena (March 9), Bristol Colston Hall (March 10), Plymouth Pavilions (March, 11) Newport Centre (March, 12) and finally the elbow tour will close at London Wembley Arena (March 14). A twelve date Pete Doherty tour kicks off at Cardiff University on March 13 and concludes at the Edinburgh Picture House on March 27. Doves confirm UK tour

The Doves have recently confirmed the details for the forthcoming 2009 Dove tour. The Doves mbark on the huge seventeen date tour this April. The Doves tour kicks off at the Cambridge Corn Exchange (April 15) before calling at Brighton Dome (April 16), Glasgow Barrowland (April 22), Manchester O2 Academy (April 26) and London Brixton Academy (May 1). The Doves tour comes to a close at Bristol O2 Academy (May 7).

Doves tickets go on sale this Friday.
