Adele highest new entry in music stars rich list

Adele is the highest new entry in this year’s richest young music stars list, comprised of British and Irish artists under the age of 30.

Following recent sales of her albums, ’19′ and ’21′ Adele is estimated to be worth around £6 million.

The chart is part of the Sunday Times Rich List to be published this weekend,

Primal Scream reveal new album plans

Primal Scream have confirmed plans to record a new album. The group are currently touring the UK, performing the whole of their iconic 1991 album ‘Screamadelica’ in full.

Keyboardist Martin Duffy said: “We are working on new material at the moment with an album out maybe next year. This tour is just to keep us in the public eye.

“When you play live you still play a lot of the old songs anyway. As musicians the older you get, hopefully, the better you get as a player. We’re lucky that we are still going and people still come to see us.

“Musicians don’t retire – unless they make too much money!”

Diamond Harry ruled out of Cheltenham Gold Cup

Diamond Harry, one of the favourites for this year’s Cheltenham Gold Cup, has suffered an injury which prevents him taking part in the race.

It has been confirmed that the horse has a suspensory ligament problem which will prevent him from racing for at least four months.

The eight-year-old, trained by Nick Williams, had been as short as 8-1. After beating Denman to the Hennessy Gold Cup in November, owner Paul Duffy felt it was the right decision to not race again, as Diamond Harry would perform better at the Cheltenham Gold Cup. But the injury has now ruled the horse out for the rest of the season.

Kylie Minogue headlines this weekend’s Capital FM Jingle Bell Ball in aid of the charity Help A London Child.

The Ball, which takes place this weekend at the O2 Arena in London, will feature a host of stars including The Script, Duffy, Cee-Lo Green, Black Eyed Peas, The Wanted, Nicole Scherzinger, Jason Derulo, Olly Murs, Taio Cruz, Alexandra Burke, McFly, Scouting For Girls, JLS, Akon, Tinie Tempah, The Saturdays, The Wanted, Flo Rida, Jay Sean, Example and Labrinth.

Kylie will play on the Sunday night, and the show will be hosted by Capital Radio DJs such as Johnny Vaughan and Lisa Snowdon.

This weekend the O2 Arena plays host to Capital FM’s charity event, the Jingle Bell Ball. The event runs for two nights, on Saturday 4th and Sunday 5th December, and is in aid of the charity Help A London Child. The event is hosted by Capital Radio DJs Johnny Vaughan, Lisa Snowdon, Richard Clarke and Kat Shoob.

The line-up, as always, is impressive and features all the hit pop acts of the year. Saturday night will feature performances from The Script, Duffy, Cee-Lo Green, Black Eyed Peas, The Wanted, Nicole Scherzinger, Jason Derulo, Olly Murs, Taio Cruz, Alexandra Burke and McFly.

Sunday will feature headliner Kylie Minogue, as well as Scouting For Girls, JLS, Akon, Tinie Tempah, The Saturdays, The Wanted, Flo Rida, Jay Sean, Example and Labrinth.

Radiohead to play summer 2009 concerts

In an interview with BBC radio’s Newsbeat Radiohead guitarist Ed O’Brien has hinted at the possibility of the Band performing a series of summer gigs.

Currently working on new material, it would seem that the band will be seeking to showcase a new album at various summer gigs. We will be doing a little bit of touring in the summer, watch this space!’ said O’Brien

The expected tour would following on from Radiohead’s 2008 In Rainbows tour which culminated in a showpiece concert at London’s Hyde park.

O’Brien was speaking at the first meeting of the Featured Artists’ Coalition in London. The newly formed music industry lobby of musicians who are attempting to establish a more prominent voice in the future of the music industry.

The FAC has claimed it will fight to ensure that the interests of artists and fans are not compromised by deals brokered between multi-national corporations which only serve corporations self interest. To this end it is asking for transparency from the industry in exchange for cooperation towards renewal and growth.

U2 score another chart victory

U2 have recently managed to secure yet another number one in this week’s album chart. The latest U2 album, , knocked the Prodigy’s latest album off the top spot and this week’s highest new entry. Prodigy are now lying in second place and Kings of Leon are spending their twenty fourth week in the chart at number three. Lady Gaga is at number four and Lily Allen makes up the top five. Duffy has now spent more than a year in the UK album chart and is this week’s number six. Take That are up one at seven and Elbow have dropped to places at number eight. Ting Tings and Fleet Foxes make up this week’s official top ten.

As well as topping this week’s official album chart, U2 have recently revealed that they will be visiting the UK on their massive 2009 world tour. U2 make four stops on their forthcoming tour, calling at London Wembley Stadium (August 14), Glasgow Hampden Park (August 18), Don Valley Stadium (August 20) and Cardiff Millennium Stadium (August 22). The Prodigy top the Chart

This week’s race to the top of the official UK albums chart has been one by The Prodigy. The Prodigy’s latest release, Invaders Must Die’, is this week’s highest new entry after selling almost 100,000 copies. The latest album from The Prodigy follows all of its ancestors since the 1994 release, Music For a Jilted Generation, by claiming the number one chart spot. Kings of Leon returned to second place in the albums charts after reclaiming their chart crown last week. Kings of Leon have now spent twenty three weeks in the official UK chart. Last week’s number two, Lily Allen, slipped to number three and Duffy was a non-mover at four. Lady Gaga makes up this week’s top five after moving up the chart two places. The rest of the top ten is made up by Elbow, Ting Tings, Take That, Fleet Foxes and The Killers.

Kings of Leon have climbed back to number one spot in the official UK albums chart after picking awards for Best International Album and Best International Group at the 2009 Brit Awards. Kings of Leon have now spent more than five months in the chart. Last week’s chart topper, Lily Allen, was pushed down the chart to the number two spot. This week’s highest new entry was Morrissey’s latest album, Years of Refusal, which entered the chart at number three. Fourth place went to Duffy whose album, Rockferry, has now spent just under a year in the official UK albums chart. Elbow’s Seldom Seen Kid took the fifth position.

A number of this week’s top five artists are on tour in 2009 and tickets are still available. Duffy scores Brit Awards hat-trick

Duffy stole the show at last night’s Brit Awards, taking home the awards for Best Album, Best Solo Female Artist and Best Breakthrough Act. Other winners included Kings of Leon who took home the awards for Best International Album and Best International Group, Elbow won the Best Group award, Katy Perry was named Best International Female and Iron Maiden took home the award for Best Live Act. As many had expected, Paul Weller picked up the Best Male Solo Artist award. Pet Shop Boys picked up the Outstanding Contribution to Music award and Florence and the Machine won the Critics’ Choice award.

The 2009 Brit Awards took place at London Earl’s Court last night and featured live performances from the likes of Kylie Minogue, Coldplay, Take That and Kings of Leon.

A number of last night’s winners are on tour this year and tickets are selling fast. Katy Perry, Elbow, Kings of Leon and Paul Weller will be touring the UK in 2009. Pet Shop Boys announce UK tour

Pet Shop Boys have recently confirmed that they are set to perform two massive shows this summer visiting the London O2 Arena and the Manchester Evening News Arena. Pet Shop Boys will play the London O2 Arena on June 18 and head north to play the MEN Arena on June 19. Tickets for the two huge Pet Shop Boys concerts go on sale this Friday (February 20).

Last night, the Pet Shop Boys picked up the Lifetime Achievement award at the 2009 Brit Awards which were held at London Earl’s Court. Other winners included Duffy, Elbow, Kings of Leon and Paul Weller.

Coldplay score Grammys hat-trick

Last night, the 2009 Grammy Awards took place at the Staples Centre in Los Angeles and British rock band Coldplay were amongst the big winners. Coldplay picked up three awards including the prize for Best Rock Album.

Other Brits to pick up prizes at last night’s Grammys included Duffy, Adele and Radiohead.

Duffy picked up the award for Best Pop Vocal Album, whilst Adele won the Best New Artist and Best Female Pop Vocal Performance prizes. Radiohead’s 2008 album, In Rainbows, won the Grammy for Best Alternative Music Album.

The multiple Grammy winners, Coldplay, embark on their 2009 stadium tour in September. The Coldplay tour kicks off at Lancashire County Cricket Ground in Manchester on September 12 and draws to a close in London at Wembley Stadium on September 19. White Lies at number one

This week, White Lies have outsold the competition to claim the number one spot in the official UK albums chart. White Lies are the only new entry in this week’s chart, but they still had to beat the likes of Kings of Leon, Duffy and Beyonce.

White Lies have been tipped to be one of the acts to look out for in 2009. White Lies have been added to the line up for this year’s hugely popular NME Awards tour. Other artists on the bill include Florence and the Machine as well as Friendly Fires. The NME Awards tour kicks off at the end of the month at Liverpool University’s Student Union (January 29th). The NME tour also visits the O2 Academy in Newcastle (February 1), Manchester Academy (February 7 & 24) and Nottingham Rock City (February 11). Hundreds of NME Awards tour tickets are still available with prices from £15.

A number of the White Lies’ fellow chart entries are also on tour this year. The album chart runners up, Kings of Leon, have got five UK dates in the tour diary in 2009. Kings of Leon play three shows at London’s O2 Arena (15, 16 & 30 June) and two at the Manchester Evening News Arena (22 & 23 June). Kings of Leon tickets can still be had for as little as £69. The Script, James Morrison and Beyonce are also touring this year and hundreds of tickets are still available.

The acts nominated for the 2009 Brit Awards were announced last night at the London Roundhouse.

Kings lose chart crown

This week, The Script have replaced Kings of Leon at the top of the official UK albums chart. It is the twenty third week The Script have been in chart and this week they have managed to outsell the competition to regain the number one spot. Kings of Leon were knocked back to second place having spent over four months in the top ten. Third place went to Lady Gaga who was this week’s highest new entry. Lady Gaga is also enjoying success in the UK singles chart where she has spent her second consecutive week at number one. James Morrison and Duffy took the fourth and fifth positions respectively in the official UK albums chart. Duffy’s debut album, Rockferry, has now spent over ten months in the UK albums chart. The remaining acts in this week’s top ten include Take That, X Factor star Leona Lewis, Beyonce, The Killers and Girls Aloud.

A host of this week’s top ten artists are on tour in 2009. The Script hit the road this February visiting the O2 Academies in Sheffield (February 6), Glasgow (February 7) and Bristol (February 9). This week, Kings of Leon took back the top spot of the official UK albums chart after outselling Take That. Kings of Leon’s latest album, Only By The Night, spent its sixteenth week in the chart at number one. Take That spent their sixth week in the chart in second place as their 2008 album, The Circus, was down one. Duffy was a non-mover at 3 as her debut album, Rockferry, spent its forty fifth week in the UK albums chart. Leona Lewis and The Killers were also non-movers, claiming the fourth and fifth positions respectively.

Coldplay knock Kings off their throne

This week, Coldplay have outsold their rivals and are sitting pretty atop the official UK Live Entertainment top twenty compiled by Tixdaq.. Previous chart toppers, Kings of Leon, were knocked off the top spot as more Coldplay tickets were sold in the last seven days than any other artist. Both Coldplay and Kings of Leon tours are trekking around the UK with little to separate them. Third place in the chart is a non-mover with the Take That tour being followed closely by Girls Aloud and The Killers to complete the top 5 UK concerts.

The rest of the top 10 sees support for rock concerts as the Oasis tour 2009, Stereophonics, Kooks and the Slipknot residency all feature in the top 10.

Tickets to see Chris Brown, Duffy, Barry Manilow and The Prodigy proved to be hot sellers and all climbed in the second half of the top 20. Meanwhile, Metallica, Cliff Richard and Snow Patrol concert tickets are all losing ground on their chart rivals. This week’s new entries include tickets for Pendulum and Pussycat Dolls as well as the Elton John Red Piano tour.
