Latitude Festival 2012 Adds New Acts To Line-up

Already boasting one of the best festival line-ups of the summer, Latitude Festival yesterday revealed yet more artists who would be pitching up their tents in the long grasses of Henham Park this July.

The festival has already announced headline acts like; Bon Iver, Elbow and Paul Weller, but had kept back a few suprises for closer the time. New acts across a variety of stages were yesterday released, with some highlights being; Catherine AD, Slow Club, King Charles, Smoke Fairies and Of Monsters And Men.

At The Lake Stage, BBC Radio 1 DJ and champion of new music, Huw Stephens has been asked to curate his own line-up. Headline slots go to sonically challenging, electro-indie group Clock Opera, while other acts include:

Los Campesinos! / Herman Düne / Alt-J / Lucy Rose / Seye / The Crookes / Kwes / Weird Dreams / POLIÇA / Tall Ships / Hooray for Earth / Tim Ten Yen / Theme Park / The Cast of Cheers / Cate Le Bon / Sam Airey / Peace.

Alongside all the top notch musical activity, Latitude has proved its diversity, by including a number of other productions, including film, theatre and comedy.

Sadler’s Wells will present an excerpt from the hugely popular Sadler’s Wells Production, The Most Incredible Thing on The Waterfront Stage. A collaboration between pop legends Pet Shop Boys and choreographer/director Javier De Frutos, The Most Incredible Thing, won the Evening Standard’s inaugural Beyond Theatre Award after its premiere in 2011, and recently enjoyed a return run at the theatre this spring.

On the Film and Music Arena Turner Prize-winning artist Jeremy Deller and co-director Nick Abraham present their new film The Bruce Lacey Experience. Three years in the making, the film examines Lacey’s remarkable legacy as an all-round cultural chameleon. The screening will be followed by a Q&A with Jeremy Deller. The Royal Albert Hall arrives at Latitude presenting the innovative violinist Hahn-Bin. One of the world’s most exciting and original classical musicians, Hahn-Bin is not only a prodigious talent but a style visionary who recently graced the cover of fashion bible i-D Magazine. Hahn-Bin recently launched The Renaissance of Classical Music, a project which aims to bring the style into mainstream culture.

In the Comedy Arena, Jack Dee, Brian Cox, Tim Minchin and others will be joined by Phill Jupitus, as well as multi award-winning, fringe sell-out, mind reader who can’t read minds, Chris Cox and revered Canadian stand-up Tony Law will be regaling audiences with his time travelling exploits in the company of his infamous sausage dog.

With the fall in the number of traditional summer festivals in the UK this year, Latitude is surely one of the hottest tickets in town for those who want to while the days away baking in a sweaty tent and drinking warm cider.

Coldplay’s Chris Martin and Jonny Buckland confirmed for Little Noise Sessions

Chris Martin and Jonny Buckland from Coldplay have been confirmed to perform a Little Noise Sessions show in London. The pair are the last headline act to be named, and will perform at St John’s Church on 24th November. The news comes after the band recently topped the UK album chart with their latest album, Mylo Xyloto.

Elbow, Example, Marina and the Diamonds and Sinead O’Connor will also headline shows at the venue this November, with the full line-up now complete

The series of concerts, now in it’s sixth year, will be held in aid of Mencap.

The line-up for this year’s Little Noise Sessions shows has been confirmed. Elbow, Example, Marina and the Diamonds and Sinead O’Connor will all headline shows at St John’s Church in London this November, with one headline act still to be confirmed.

The concerts will be held in aid of Mencap, with the series now in it’s sixth year.

Little Noise Sessions tickets will go on general sale on Monday 10th October, with presale tickets available from Friday 7th.

Q Awards 2011 nominations revealed

The nominations for this year’s Q Awards have been revealed, with acts such as Arctic Monkeys and Jessie J securing multiple nominations. The winners will be named on October 24th at The Grosvenor House Hotel in London.

British singer Adele leads the way with three nominations in total, including Best Female Artists. The news comes as the September Adele tour resumed this week, following the singer’s illness.

A host of big-name acts have been confirmed for the Children In Need Rocks charity concert, set to take place at Manchester MEN Arena on 17th November.

Organised by Take That singer Gary Barlow, the show will be hosted by Fearne Cotton, Chris Moyles and David Tennant and broadcast on BBC One and Radio 1 from 8pm-10pm on the day.

The concert will feature performances from Barlow himself, Lady Gaga, Coldplay, Michael Buble, Ed Sheeran, Elbow, N Dubz, James Morrison, Hugh Laurie, Snow Patrol and JLS.

The inclusion of Michael Buble will please the singer’s UK fans, with the concert set to be his only live UK appearance of 2011. PJ Harvey wins second Mercury Music Prize

PJ Harvey has become the first person to win the Mercury Prize on two occasions, with her album Let England Shake.

The singer was the clear favourite going into last night’s ceremony, after previously winning the award back in 2001. Harvey beat the likes of Adele, Tinie Tempah, Katy B, James Blake and Elbow to the prize, regarded as one of the highest honours in the music industry.

On accepting the award, she stated “It’s really good to be here this evening, because when I last won 10 years ago I was in Washington DC watching the Pentagon burning from my hotel window.

“So much has happened since then. This album took me a long time to write. It was very important to me. I wanted to make something meaningful, not just for myself but for other people, and hopefully to make something that would last.”

PJ Harvey tickets are available for the singer’s two shows at London’s Royal Albert Hall in October. With any support acts yet to be confirmed, the singer is expected to produce a similar setlist to that of her recent UK shows:

The ceremony for this year’s Mercury Music Prize will take place tonight at London’s Grosvenor Hotel, with previous winner PJ Harvey still clear favourite to beat off competition from the likes of Adele and James Blake.

Fans enjoy Leeds Festival despite rain

Despite Leeds Festival being hit by showers, fans are braving the mud to see some incredible live music.

The current forecast for today is rain, but it is set to clear up tomorrow and by Sunday should be dry with sunshine. Fans heading to the main stage today will not let the wet weather dampen their spirits as they watch headliners Muse, who have promised to play the entirety of hit album, Origin Of Symmetry, in full. Also appearing are Elbow, Interpol, and Friendly Fires, with 2manydjs and The Streets headlining the NME/Radio 1 tent.

Tomorrow will see My Chemical Romance headlining the main stage with Beady Eye topping the bill of the NME/Radio 1 tent. Sunday will see an incredible finale of The National, The Strokes and finally Pulp to close the festival.

Reading Festival kicks off today – tickets still available

Reading Festival begins today, and will see some incredible performances over the next three days.

The first day will see My Chemical Romance headline the main stage in their first Reading show in five years. Also appearing on the main stage are Thirty Seconds To Mars and The Offspring. Beady Eye will headline the NME/Radio 1 tent.

Tickets are still available for the Saturday and Sunday of the event. Saturday will see The Strokes and Pulp headline the main stage, with The National, Jane’s Addiction and Bombay Bicycle Club also appearing. On Sunday Muse are set to headline, with Elbow, Intepol, Friendly Fires, 2manydjs and The Streets also performing. It is sure to be an incredible weekend.

PJ Harvey announces surprise second Royal Albert Hall show

PJ Harvey has revealed that she is to play what is being called a “second one-off show” at London’s Royal Albert Hall this October.

The second date will take place on October 31st, the day after the previously announced show on October 30th. The new gig becomes the last date of her European tour. She is widely tipped to win the Mercury Music Prize, ahead of artists including Adele and Elbow.

PJ Harvey has been given incredible odds by bookmakers to win this year’s Mercury Music Prize.

The singer has been given odds of 2/1 to win – just two hours after she was named 6/1 joint favourite with Adele. Harvey’s eighth album, Let England Shake, is one of the twelve albums announced yesterday (July 19th) for the prestigious award. Other nominated artists include Elbow, Everything Everything, Metronomy, James Blake, Katy B and Tinie Tempah.

PJ Harvey is to embark on a short UK tour in September, as well as appearing at Bestival.

Elbow pause Benicassim show to avoid crowd trouble

Elbow were forced to stop playing during their set at Benicassim Festival last night, 15th July, to avoid crushing in the crowd.

Midway through a set which included hits such as ‘Bones Of You’ and ‘One Day Like This’, Guy Garvey had to pause the show.

The singer told the crowd, “Wait a minute, everybody step back. Everyone’s getting crushed down here. C’mon, step back, we’ve got a gig to do.

“It’s a bit of a squeeze down the front, make sure you’re kind to everybody around you.”

Benicassim tickets are available online for the final day of the event on Sunday 17th July, which will include a headline performance from Arcade Fire.

Elbow to create their own beer for Manchester festival

Elbow have revealed they are to create their own ale for the upcoming Manchester Food And Drink Festival.

The Manchester indie favourites have joined forces with local brewers Robinsons of Stockport, and as reported on their official website, went through a series of tastings to create a beer which matched their preferred “style, taste and colour.” They settled on a “golden ale with a rich rounded body, smooth bitterness, subtle tang of malt and fruity aroma.” The beer will be named the Build A Rocket Boys! beer, after their recent album.

The band will play Leeds and Reading festivals later this summer, before playing shows around the world.

The August Bank Holiday weekend sees the infamous Reading Festival commence for three days of non-stop action.

Featuring headliners My Chemical Romance (Friday August 26th), The Strokes and Pulp (Saturday 27th) and Muse (Sunday 28th), the festival’s incredible line-up is almost complete. The Alternative Stage has seen more names added to the bill, with upcoming artists and hilarious comedians such as Tom Wrigglesworth, Rob Rouse, Tim Minchin, Lee Nelson, Henry Rollins and Russell Kane all announced. Festival-goers will also have the chance to see Fight For Your Right Revisited, a film by the Beastie Boys, in the Alternative Stage tent.

Also appearing at Reading will be great bands including The National, Elbow, Interpol, Thirty Seconds To Mars, The Offspring, 2manydjs, and Jimmy Eat World.

Although Glastonbury has now ended, there are still plenty of high quality festivals featuring some incredible line ups still to come.

This coming weekend (July 8th-10th) sees T In The Park descend into Balado, Scotland. Famous for its charged atmosphere and unique Scottish vibe, the three-day event once again has a world-class line-up. Featuring headline sets from Arctic Monkeys, Coldplay and Foo Fighters, support comes from an incredible line-up including Beyonce, The Strokes, Pulp, The Script, 2manydjs, and My Chemical Romance. T in the Park tickets can be bought from just £161.

Latitude Festival arrives in Suffolk on July 15th, for three days of incredible music in one of the most relaxed festivals in the country. The weekend will see headline performances from The National (Friday 15th), Paolo Nutini (Saturday 16th) and Suede (Sunday 17th). Also appearing on the Obelisk Arena are Bright Eyes, Paloma Faith, The Cribs, My Morning Jacket, Glasvegas and Hurts. Headlining The Word Arena are Bombay Bicycle Club (15th), Foals (16th) and Eels (17th), with The Vaccines, Echo & The Bunnymen and Lykke Li also appearing.

Latitude Festival tickets for the weekend are currently selling for as little as £121.

On August 20th, V Festival kicks off in Chelmsford (Hylands Park) and Staffordshire (Weston Park). Headlining the two-day event are Eminem and Arctic Monkeys, with support from chart favourites such as Rihanna, Plan B, The Script, Kaiser Chiefs, Manic Street Preachers and Lostprophets. Pendulum and Dizzee Rascal headline the 4Music Stage, with Duran Duran and Chase and Status set to top the bill on The Arena Stage. The weekend is a favourite due to regularly world-class headliners and excellent atmosphere.

V Festival weekend tickets are selling from £200 for the Chelmsford event, and £190 for the Hylands Park weekend.

Both Reading Festival and Leeds Festival take place over the August bank holiday weekend, Friday 26th – Sunday 28th. Consistently having some of the best line-ups of the festival circuit has made the weekend a firm favourite of the summer. Glastonbury 2011: Preview and live streaming

The world’s most famous festival, The Glastonbury Festival of Contemporary Performing Arts, kicks off tomorrow.

Featuring more than 700 acts across more than 30 stages, watched by more than 175,000 people, the festival is renowned worldwide for its great atmosphere and legendary performances.

This year’s Pyramid Stage headline performances come from U2 (Friday 24th), Coldplay (Saturday 25th) and Beyonce (Sunday 26th). Other acts on the infamous main stage include Morissey, Elbow, Laura Marling, Paolo Nutini and Biffy Clyro.

The Other Stage will be headlined by Primal Scream (Friday), The Chemical Brothers (Saturday) and Queens of the Stone Age (Sunday). Also playing the festival’s second stage will be Mumford & Sons, White Lies, Kaiser Chiefs, TV on the Radio, Fleet Foxes and Bright Eyes.

The John Peel Stage will see DJ Shadow (Friday), Glasvegas (Saturday) and The Streets (Sunday) headline. Other acts playing the stage named in honour of the legendary Radio 1 DJ include The Coral, Battles, Robyn, Noah and the Whale and Warpaint.

The huge festival has been running on and off since 1970, and this year is sure to live up to expectations. With a line-up nothing short of world-class, revellers and viewers at home will see some spectacular performances on stages big and small.

Peter Schmeichel believes Madrid would suit Rooney

Former Manchester United goalkeeper Peter Schmeichel believes that getting away from Old Trafford is one option to help him overcome his problems, with Real Madrid potentially one of the clubs that would be best suited to him.

Rooney has been constantly in the headlines in the last six weeks for various reasons, with the good stories including seven goals in his last eight games in all competitions.

However, what looked like a deliberate elbow on Wigan’s James McCarthy sparked some outrage and then some foul language in front of a camera when scoring a hat-trick against West Ham led to a two-game ban.

Schmeichel told Ekstra Bladet: “It would be good for him to play for another club. Real Madrid under Mourinho, is someone that could handle him and get the best out of him.

“It is painful to say that that the best player you have, which he is at United, he is better off trying something new. United will probably not sell him to another English club, but a change of scenery would help.”

Rooney was forced to sit out of Manchester United’s 2-0 win over Fulham, with the victory maintaining their seven-point advantage at the top of the table.

Manchester United are now 1/7 in the Premier League odds, but their first immediate focus will be ensuring their qualification to the Champions League semi-finals at the expense of Chelsea, with Rooney able to take part in the second leg.

Adele continues chart domination

Tottenham born singer Adele has made it 11 continuous weeks at the top of the album charts, showing no signs of ending her ubiquity any time soon.

The seven-times platinum LP, which was today named as the most downloaded album of all time on Amazon.co.uk, has now spent the most consecutive weeks in pole position for a solo artist’s studio album.

Adele’s effort previously became the fastest album to sell one million copies between January and March, and broke the record for most downloads in the UK.

The London singer also dethroned Madonna as the female artist to have spent the longest time at number one on the album chart.

Sandwiched between 21 and Adele’s previous album 19 is Katy B and her debut album ‘On A Mission’, while Jessie J completes the Brit School reunion after climbing four places to five with Who You Are, following Arsenal and England star Theo Walcott presenting her with her platinum disc earlier in the week.

Also shuffling upwards this week are Michael Buble’s Crazy Love, which advances five spots to seven in its 77th week of release, former number one Doo Wops & Hooligans by Bruno Mars, up three to eight, and Elbow’s Build A Rocket Boys!, which is at nine from last Sunday’s 14.

Villagers announce new single and tour

Irish group Villagers have announced that their track “The Pact (I’ll Be Your Forever)” will be the next single from their Mercury-nominated debut album Becoming A Jackal – and have scheduled a May 23rd release date.

Villagers are playing 20 UK/Irish dates this summer, including a variety of festivals, and are sure to be one of the stand-out bands of the summer.

The band, fronted by Conor J. O’Brien, are currently touring with Elbow as their support act.

The Rock electrifies WrestleMania 27

The Rock made a vital intervention at WrestleMania 27 last night, helping The Miz to retain the WWE Championship in his match against John Cena.

The match between The Miz and Cena originally ended in a draw after a double count-out, but The Rock, who was also host for the event, came out and said the main event should not finish without a decisive winner.

The match restarted, and the ‘People’s Champion’ dropped Cena with a Rock Bottom, allowing The Miz to take the win. Still not satisfied, The Rock went ahead and gave The Miz a People’s Elbow as a record 71,617 fans inside the Georgia Dome cheered him on.

Elbow frontman says tour will change the way they write music

The ‘Build A Rocket Boys!’ band from Manchester are currently wrapping up their current UK arena tour, with their final two performances to be held at London’s O2 Arena tonight and tomorrow night, and frontman Guy Garvey reckons that the band will now take to writing music differently having played the biggest tour of their career.

“Knowing that we’re being appreciated as much for our subtler songs as we are for our anthems will shape the way we write in the future,” he told BBC 6Music.

“We won’t have to apologetically write very simple, quiet music.”

Elbow will take to the stage directly before headliners U2 at this year’s Glastonbury Festival.

My Chemical Romance will be headlining Reading on the Friday and Leeds on Saturday, with support from 30 Seconds To Mars, The Offspring, Deftones, Rise Against, Bring Me The Horizon, The Blackout and Architects.

The Strokes will top the bill at Reading on Saturday and Leeds on Sunday, along with performances from Pulp, The National, Jimmy Eat World, Madness, Two Door Cinema Club, Seasick Steve, The Pigeon Detectives and The Joy Formidable.

Muse will headline Reading on Sunday and Friday in Leeds, with support from Elbow, Interpol, Friendly Fires, Enter Shikari, The View, Frank Turner and We Are The Ocean.

Beady Eye, Janes Addiction, 2many DJ’s, White Lies, Crystal Castles, The Streets, Noah and the Whale, Bombay Bicycle Club and Death From Above 1979 have also all been confirmed to appear across the weekend.

Reading Festival will take place at Richfield Avenue from the 26th to 28th August, whilst Leeds Festival will take place at Bramham Park across the same weekend. Weekend tickets will be priced at around £190, whilst day tickets will be priced at £80.

Injured Welsh winger Shane Williams will be replaced by 18 year old George North for Wales’ Six Nations finale against France. Williams misses out on what would have been a personal Six Nations denoument after announcing that he will almost certainly retire from International rugby after the tournament. Adam Jones is also set to return to the Wales side following an elbow injury, replacing injured tight-head Craig Mitchell, for Saturday’s Stade de France showdown.

France coach Marc Lievremont makes five changes to his side for the clash against Wales. Alexis Palisson of Brive, who has failed to nail down a consistent starting berth, is on the left wing. Damien Traille and David Marty are reunited in the centre six years after last playing there and Thomas Domingo, wrecker of the Scotland scrum before being rested for the defeat to Italy in Rome, returns along with the No8 Imanol Harinordoquy, who described last Saturday’s defeated squad as “useless prats”.

Wales are the only team that can scupper England’s title chances and will want to continue their good form in Paris. France, however, come off the back of a one point defeat to italy, with Lievremont given the unwanted award of being the first French Manager to lose against the Italians.

Kenny Dalglish expects action against Braga’s Kaka

Liverpool boss Kenny Dalglish had admitted he is surprised that UEFA have not yet taken retrospective action against Braga defender Kaka for his elbow on Andy Carroll last week.

Carroll was elbowed in the face by Kaka late in the game, and the incident has clearly riled Dalglish

Dalglish was asked what impact the £35million striker had made on his European debut for the club he joined in January, having come on as a substitute.

“The biggest impact was what I was asked about after the game about him getting caught with the elbow from Kaka,” he told a press conference ahead of Thursday night’s second leg at Anfield.

“I never saw it in the game but I’ve seen it since and if there is no retribution from UEFA it will be a real surprise for me.”

Adele has remained at number 1 in both the UK single and album chart this week. Someone Like You has now been top of the chart for four weeks whilst her second album, 21 has topped the album list for seven weeks.

The singer held off stiff competition from the likes of Elbow’s new album to remain in top spot. In the singles chart, Jessie J stayed at number two with Price Tag while Rihanna remained at number three with S&M.

Guy Garvey says Elbow songs are hard work

Guy Garvey has said that he does not consider himself to be a great lyricist.

Although new album ‘Build A Rocket Boys!’ will be fighting to take over the number one spot from Adele, Guy told the Daily Star he spends a hefty amount of time painstakingly poring over his words.

He said: “It’s the responsibility to the rest of the band that gets me. I’m not a natural lyricist and I have to work really hard to get them to a standard I’m really happy with. I feel that responsibility to the song as well – to make the song as good as it can be.”

Adele set for seventh week at number one with 21

Adele is set to make it seven weeks at the top of the UK chart, with hit album 21. The singer is said to be holding off the challenge of REM and Elbow.

According to official chart data, the record is around 14,000 sales ahead of the newly-issued Elbow album Build A Rocket Boys, with Jessie J’s Who Are You in third place and the brand new REM album Collapse Into You fourth.

Elbow release their fifth album, ‘Build A Rocket Boys!’

Acclaimed for their original sound and candid lyrics, Elbow will hope they have scored another winner with new album, ‘Build A Rocket Boys!’, which was released today (March 7th).

Having won the Mercury Music Prize in 2008 for their last album, ‘The Seldom Seen Kid’, Elbow have a lot to live up to, and ‘Build A Rocket Boys!’ does not disappoint.

The album should delight long standing fans, but it will also attract new fans, despite it’s apparent lack of radio-friendliness. Frontman Guy Garvey told Q: “We could write deliberate radio hits until the cows come home, but I think you can hear it really obviously when a band has done that.”

“Lippy Kids’, according to Q, was a key song. Written in defence of the British teenager, victim to, as Garvey put it, “the anti-hoody **** that goes on in the media, the thought that if you hang around on a street corner you’re a criminal.”

Elbow tickets will go on general release next Friday, 1st October, but before then, fans have the chance to register on the band’s website for presale tickets which will be made available on Tuesday 28th September.

Elbow are a hugely respected band from Manchester who have grown and evolved in countless ways since their inception. Their 2008 Mercury Music Prize for fourth album The Seldom Seen Kid saw their single Grounds For Divorce receive a tremendous amount of airplay, and their fan following has exploded since.

Their as yet untitled fifth album is scheduled for a release date of Spring 2011, and the celebrated rock act will tour the UK in support of the LP in March 2011.

Peter Gabriel announces cover album details

Peter Gabriel has announced details of the first pair of his song swaps he is planning to release, to be taken from his upcoming covers album, ‘Scratch My Back.’ Due out on January 25 via iTunes, his first cover will be of ‘The Book Of Love’ by The Magnetic Fields. The album will also feature covers of Radiohead’s ‘Street Spirit (Fade Out)’, Regina Spektor’s ‘Apres Moi’ and Elbow’s ‘Mirrorball.’

Meanwhile Peter Gabriel is set to play two shows at London’s O2 Arena. After his European tour, Peter Gabriel will be performing at the award-winning venue on March 27th and 28th. Tickets for these gigs are in high demand but Tixdaq can confirm that hundreds are still available for both dates.

Barclaycard Mercury Prize winner to be announced today

After Tixdaq revealed who made the shortlist for the Barclaycard Mercury Prize 2009, the winner of the accolade and £20,000 will be announced at an awards ceremony at the London Grosvenor House Hotel later this evening. Tonight will also see all twelve artists nominated performing at the awards ceremony for the first time since the awards’ inception in 1992.

It seems Lungs by Florence and the Machine is one of the bookmakers’ favourites to take home the accolade. Florence Welch claims that she is so nervous about tonight’s awards ceremony that she is considering hiding in the toilets until the winner is announced, saying that it is sitting through the ceremony that is scaring her the most.

Fellow nominee Elly Jackson, singer from La Roux, also thinks Florence and the Machine is the favourite to win together with the self-titled debut album from the Friendly Fires. Elly Jackson says that she was not expecting to win and was looking forward to her live performance as well as the live performances of her fellow nominees.

She also said that even if La Roux do pick up the gong, there will be no time to celebrate as they have to jet off to France soon after the show. It seems the Barclaycard Mercury Prize 2008 winners Elbow agree with La Roux’s Elly Jackson, having said they think Friendly Fires will win take the crown from them this year.

Speech Debelle has talked up her own chances of winning the Barclaycard Mercury Prize with her album Speech Therapy. She claims that if it was a popularity contest, she would lose but will have a very good chance if the decision was based on the reasons why she was nominated for the shortlist in the first place.

Speech Debelle has also described her album as being different to what is always heard on the radio and is confident of winning the top prize, despite saying she does not have a speech prepared.

Also in the running for the Barclaycard Mercury Prize is Kasabian with the album West Ryder Pauper Lunatic Asylum. Kasabian guitarist Serge Pizzorno claims that the band might donate the money to charity if they win the award, unless the money gets given to the barman, that is.

Many of this year’s front runners to lift the Barclaycard Mercury Prize crown are also on tour playing at many venues across the UK.

Florence and the Machine, already performing shows throughout September, has just announced details of new tour dates for the UK and Ireland scheduled for December 2009. The new Florence and the Machine tour dates include the Glasgow O2 Academy on December 9 as well as the Manchester Apollo (December 10), Lincoln Engine Shed (December 11) and the London Brixton Academy (December 13).

Florence and the Machine tickets for the December gigs go on general sale on Friday September 11 at 9am, however tickets for their September shows are still available to compare and buy at Tixdaq.com

The Kasabian tour begins at the Newcastle Metro Radio Arena on November 10 and will also stop off for two dates at the London Wembley Arena (November 14 & 15), the Manchester Evening News Arena (November 20) and ending the tour at the Sheffield Hallam FM Arena (November 23).

Also playing UK venues throughout November is La Roux, like the Leeds University Union on November 13 as well as the Birmingham O2 Academy (November 18), the Southampton Guildhall (November 24) and two dates at the London O2 Shepherds Bush Empire (November 25 & 26).

Bestival ticket prices reach new low

A host of top acts including Klaxons, Elbow, Lily Allen and Massive Attack are currently preparing for this weekend’s Bestival. The festival takes place at Robin Hill on the Isle of Wight and is set to kick off this Friday.

The 2009 Bestival sold out at the box office within days of going on sale. However, tickets remain available to compare at Tixdaq.com. Adult weekend camping tickets have been selling for as much as £285, but similar tickets are now available online for as little as £120. These cut price Bestival tickets are expected to sell fast. Fans have only a few days to snap them up and attend what is set to be one of the greatest Bestivals to date.

Other acts on the 2009 Bestival line-up include Kraftwerk, Soulwax, MGMT, Bat for Lashes and Fleet Foxes.

Hundreds of Bestival tickets are available at Tixdaq, but they will not be around for long.

Glastonbury may follow Reading and Leeds with flag ban

Earlier this month, a statement on the official website for the Reading and Leeds Festival announced that flags were not allowed to be brought into the main arena, in order to allow ticket holders the best possible view.

Some have opposed the ban, claiming that the wave of colours was a main feature of the festivals, and that the flags had some practical implications such as being used as a meeting point in the sea of people. However, others may be thrilled with the flag ban, especially those who have had their views obstructed by flags in the past.

Now it seems Glastonbury may implement the flag ban next year after conversations were held between Michael Eavis, the Glastonbury festival chief, and Melvin Benn, the head of Festival Republic.

Melvin Benn, who runs the Reading and Leeds Festivals and also helps to organise Glastonbury, reflected on this year’s Glastonbury festival, which was held in June, and claimed that there was poor visibility of the acts on stage because of the number of flags.

Melvin Benn continued to say that there had always been flags at festivals but not to the extent as now, where flags had become very long and tall and there were more flags now than ever before.

For now, no official decision on a flag ban at Glastonbury has been made, and despite some protests against the flag ban at the Reading and Leeds Festival 2009, event organisers have failed to respond.

Despite the summer months coming to an end marking the end of the festival season, there are still plenty of festivals to look forward to in the UK.

Of course, the Reading and Leeds Festival is still to come, taking place at Reading Richfield Avenue and Leeds Bramham Park from August 28-30, headlined by Arctic Monkeys, Radiohead and Kings of Leon.

However if dance is more your taste in music, you can check out Creamfields 2009 which takes place at the Halston Daresbury Estate from August 29-30 where you can catch Basement Jaxx, Dizzee Rascal and Calvin Harris in action.

Get Loaded In The Park is one of the last of the biggest festivals that take place in the capital, and is happening at London Clapham Common on August 30, featuring Orbital, Royksopp, VV Brown, and a DJ set from Pendulum.

Bestival 2009 is one of the last festivals to feature some chart-toppping acts such as Elbow, Massive Attack, Lily Allen, Florence and the Machine, and Little Boots. Bestival 2009 is taking place at the Isle of Wight Robin Hill Adventure Park from September 11-13.

Horrors’ club night returns

It has been recently revealed that The Horrors have confirmed that their popular London club night, The Cave Club, will return to the Buffalo Bar, Islington. The night returns after a five month absence and will feature DJ sets from The Horrors band members. The show will take place on August 15th.

As well as DJ performances from the band, the night will also feature a debut live performance from Welsh band, The Infamous.

The Horrors have had a successful 2009 following a series of sold out concerts as well as a Mercury Music Prize nomination for their latest album, Primary Colours.

Horrors fans still have a chance to see the band live in concert this year as the band bring their summer to a close with shows at Reading and Leeds Festival. The 2009 Reading and Leeds Festival is set to take place on August and will include performances from the likes of Arctic Monkeys, The Prodigy, Kings of Leon and Radiohead. The Maccabees and Little Boots to play Oxegen Festival

It has recently been revealed that Little Boots and The Maccabees will join the list of top acts set to perform at this year’s Oxegen Festival which is set to take place at Punchestown Racecourse this summer (July 10-12)

Bands including The Killers, Snow Patrol, Kings of Leon and Blur have already been confirmed as the headline acts for the 2009 Oxegen Festival.

Fans will be glad to learn that some of this year’s Oxegen Festival headline acts will also be on tour in the UK this summer.

Blur kick off their 2009 tour at Southend-on-Sea Cliffs Pavilion on June 24. The 2009 Blur tour also calls at Newcastle O2 Academy (June 25) and Manchester Evening News Arena (June 26). The Blur tour climaxes at London Hyde Park with two massive shows (July 2 & 3). Meanwhile, Kings of Leon perform five huge arena concerts in London and Manchester. The Kings of Leon tour includes three shows at London O2 Arena (June 15,16 & 30) and two performances at Manchester Evening News Arena. (June 22 & 23). Elbow announce one last show of the year for September

Elbow will be performing their last headline show of the year in their home town at the MEN Arena, Manchester on Friday September 18 before heading back to the studio to record a fifth album.

Elbow have already had a sell-out UK tour following the release of the album The Seldom Seen Kid in March 2008.

It has arguably been Elbow’s most successful year to date after forming nearly two decades ago.

Elbow won the Mercury Music Prize for 2008 for album The Seldom Seen Kid and the Brit Award for Best British Group in early 2009.

Tickets to see Elbow in this homecoming gig go on general sale on Friday May 1 at 9am.

Before playing the Manchester MEN Arena in September, Elbow will be playing live in various festivals this summer.

Elbow are set to play at T In The Park which takes place at Balado Airfield, Kinross from Thursday July 9 until Sunday July 12.

Elbow will be supporting U2 for the 360º tour at Wembley Stadium, London on Friday August 14.

Elbow will also play the V Festival over the weekend of August 22-23 at Hylands Park, Chelmsford and Weston Park, Shifnal.

Lastly, Elbow will play at Bestival 2009 taking place in Robin Hill Park, Isle of Wight from September 11-12.
