Along with their scheduled headline tour, The Hives are confirmed to to return to the UK to play this summer’s Reading And Leeds Festivals at the end of August.

There is plenty to see and do, and this summer looks set to be one of London’s busiest in years, with both the elite forces of Sport and Music all converging on one City. New acts across a variety of stages were yesterday released, with some highlights being; Catherine AD, Slow Club, King Charles, Smoke Fairies and Of Monsters And Men.

At The Lake Stage, BBC Radio 1 DJ and champion of new music, Huw Stephens has been asked to curate his own line-up. Headline slots go to sonically challenging, electro-indie group Clock Opera, while other acts include:

Alongside all the top notch musical activity, Latitude has proved its diversity, by including a number of other productions, including film, theatre and comedy.

Sadler’s Wells will present an excerpt from the hugely popular Sadler’s Wells Production, The Most Incredible Thing on The Waterfront Stage. A collaboration between pop legends Pet Shop Boys and choreographer/director Javier De Frutos, The Most Incredible Thing, won the Evening Standard’s inaugural Beyond Theatre Award after its premiere in 2011, and recently enjoyed a return run at the theatre this spring.

On the Film and Music Arena Turner Prize-winning artist Jeremy Deller and co-director Nick Abraham present their new film The Bruce Lacey Experience. Three years in the making, the film examines Lacey’s remarkable legacy as an all-round cultural chameleon. The screening will be followed by a Q&A with Jeremy Deller. The Royal Albert Hall arrives at Latitude presenting the innovative violinist Hahn-Bin. One of the world’s most exciting and original classical musicians, Hahn-Bin is not only a prodigious talent but a style visionary who recently graced the cover of fashion bible i-D Magazine. Hahn-Bin recently launched The Renaissance of Classical Music, a project which aims to bring the style into mainstream culture.

In the Comedy Arena, Jack Dee, Brian Cox, Tim Minchin and others will be joined by Phill Jupitus, as well as multi award-winning, fringe sell-out, mind reader who can’t read minds, Chris Cox and revered Canadian stand-up Tony Law will be regaling audiences with his time travelling exploits in the company of his infamous sausage dog.

With the fall in the number of traditional summer festivals in the UK this year, Latitude is surely one of the hottest tickets in town for those who want to while the days away baking in a sweaty tent and drinking warm cider.

The festival will run from July 13 – 15 in London’s Hyde Park, with reunited rockers Soundgarden headlining the opening night (July 13), Bruce Springsteen the second night (July 14) and Paul Simon, who’ll be performing his classic album ‘Graceland’ in its entirety, closing the show on July 15

Also joining the bill are Guillemots, Black Stone Cherry, Christina Perri, Marcus Foster and a host of other new acts.

Kids In Glass Houses have a busy summer of festivals in store for them, with slots at Liverpool Sound City,  Download Festival and Hit The Deck all confirmed.

The event, which runs from August 24 – 26, will see the Welsh indie pop band open the Main Stage on Saturday (August 25) at Reading and Sunday at Leeds (August 26). They play beneath the Mystery Jets and Blood Red Shoes.

Social Distortion and Less Than Jake will headline the Lock Up stage. The stage is hosted by BBC Radio 1’s Mike Davies, presenter of the Punk Show.

He said: “Having an incredible Punk Rock line-up every summer has become a standard for the Lock Up Stage. And this year is no different.

“Old favourites, new heroes and even surprise guests, we have it all and it will be one hell of a festival.”

As well as the festivals, the band are also reportedly planning to play a small UK tour to roadtest their new material in June. A statement from Mumford and Sons said of the tour:

“We want to stop off in towns not usually heavily toured by bands, and celebrate the people, food and music that inhabit them. We’re keen to promote the town’s local businesses, and we’ll be using the local bars and venues for aftershow parties, whilst working closely with the local people to get everyone involved in making these shows spectacular.

“There will be a host of our friends playing too …. It should be a whole lot of fun.”

The Manchester band are the first confirmed headliner for next year’s Benicassim, which is due to take place from July 12th to 15th. They are also the first act confirmed for Scotland’s T In The Park, which takes place from July 6th to 8th.

The festival appearances will form part of the band’s world tour, with even more UK dates expected to be announced in the coming months.

Stone Roses tickets for the band’s Heaton Park shows on the 29th June, 30th June and 1st July, as well as their Benicassim appearance are on sale now. Tickets for next year’s T in the Park festival will go on sale on 2nd December.

Coldplay entered the UK album chart at number one last week, with their latest record Mylo Xyloto. The success means that all five of Coldplay’s albums – including previous efforts Parachutes, A Rush Of Blood To The Head, X&Y and Viva La Vida Or Death And All His Friends – have reached number one in the UK charts.

Previous to its release, the band announced a short arena tour, and are set to perform three shows in December. The band will take to the stage at Glasgow SECC on Saturday 3rd December and Manchester MEN Arena on Sunday 4th, before their final show of the year at the O2 Arena.

The group delighted thousands of fans this summer, with headline performances at Glastonbury, T In The Park and Oxegen festivals, playing new material as well as a number of greatest hits, including songs such as Yellow, The Scientist and Fix You.

They performed at last weekend’s Reading and Leeds Festivals but it appears that their fans may have to wait quite some time before they will get the chance to see them again. In an interview with Gigwise the band’s drummer Sam Foragarino stated, “We need a big break. Interpol needs it. We need to recoup and go on a proper hiatus,” he said. “Who knows what is ahead for the band, I think we’re all just looking forward to relaxing for a while and catching up with our own things.”

Earlier this year the band released their self-titled album which was met with a warm critical reception. Fans remain hopeful that Interpol will tour again soon.

Guitarist Jenny Lee Lindberg told that work will begin in earnest once their touring commitments are finished. She commented, “oftentimes we’ll just jam and free-flow onstage, so maybe a new song will happen that way. It’s coming. This is our last British show, we’ve got Electric Picnic in Ireland, then a show in Seattle, then we’re home.”

Fans are very excited to see which direction Warpaint will head in next and it seems that this band are really starting to make waves into commercial success in the UK at the moment.

Following their co-headline slot with Pulp at last weekend’s Reading and Leeds Festivals, the band’s bassist Nikolai Fraiture told the Daily Star;

“Some people are bringing in stuff, some are not. There aren’t so many finished songs but we have many parts. We try putting them together like puzzles and making them stick.”

He went on to add, “What we do on our own is not the same as what we do together. We’re in a good place as a band right now. I feel like I’m at therapy in a marriage.”

This news is certainly an improvement from the band’s previous poor relations which were apparently eminent during the recording of Angles. The Strokes do not currently have any tours planned but fans are hopeful they will be back on the road sooner rather than later.

The band played two magnificent sets at Reading and Leeds Festivals last weekend and now it appears that a new album could be soon around the corner. In an interview with Gigwise, lead singer Gerard Way commented:

“We’re writing music every day at the moment, which was something that wasn’t happening on ‘Black Parade’.” He also went on to comment about the current state of the band, “Now it’s like this is what I do and I want to do this for the rest of my life. Everybody’s so happy.”

5. The National- England- The National played a very special set on the Saturday evening at the Reading site and here is their rendition of England from their High Violet album:

4. Frank Turner- Photosynthesis- Frank Turner made his mark on the mainstage at Reading and Leeds this year and he certainly did not disappoint. Here is his rendition of Photosynthesis.

3. The Strokes- Hard To Explain- The Strokes delivered their ambivalent indie rock to Reading and Leeds with great aplomb. They sent the crowds into rapturous frenzy and must be regarded as one of the highlights of Reading and Leeds 2011. Here is Hard to Explain.

2. Muse- Intro and New Born- Muse wowed fans during their headline performances at Reading and Leeds. They had an amazing stage which threw out fire at points and added to their very special performance. Have a look at their opening number below.

1. Pulp- Disco 2000- Pulp continued their much acclaimed come back Summer with two stunning sets at Reading and Leeds Festivals. They induced two of the biggest sing alongs throughout the weekend and Disco 2000 is our number 1 highlight.

Pulp will also be going on to perform two very special shows at London’s Brixton Academy on August 31st and September 1st.

Bestival has long held the reputation as one of the best festivals in the country and this year is sure to be another great instalment. Taking place on the Isle of Wight on September 8th to 12th, acts playing at this year’s Bestival include Ed Sheeran, Ben Howard, Pendulum, The Cure and Bjork.

The tragedy at Pukkelpop festival resulted in a number of stages collapsing in very strong winds and torrential rain, leaving five dead and hundreds injured. In an interview with BBC Newsbeat, Benn said of Pukkelpop: “If we had something similar I know what actions I would take in order to make sure people were safe. I have to table top exercises with the emergency services about the actions I would take in the event of all of those things. Believe me, there is no scenario of an eventuality that I have not looked at, including freak storms. I know how I would deal with it to ensure peoples’ safety. The level of effort over safety is immense. It’s the thing which keeps me awake at night.”

Last time they performed at the festivals (in 2006) they were bottled off stage so there is evidently a certain degree of anxiety for them going in to the weekend. The lead singer Gerard Way told the Daily Star, “We haven’t felt like we’ve had anything to prove in a long time, so maybe this is the right time to do that.”

He went on to add, “We’re closing a festival where not everyone has approved of us in the past.” The comments surely indicate that they are saving something special for Reading and Leeds Festivals. Acts also on the bill include Muse, The Strokes and The Streets.

It will be their first album since 2009′s The Liberty of Norton Folgate, and their eleventh record overall. Speaking to Digital Spy, Suggs said: “It’ll definitely come out next year – hopefully we’ll finish it this year. We were hoping to get it done but then we decided to postpone the whole thing because we weren’t completely satisfied with what we’ve done so far.”

He continued: “We’re working on it and I think that’s the thing… when you’re young you have all the time in the world. We don’t spend 24 hours a day working on music like we used to when we were younger, so you have to do it in batches – sporadic, intense.”

The band are set to perform at this weekend’s Leeds and Reading Festivals, as well as September’s Ultrasound Festival and November’s House Of Fun Weekender.

Previously the band indicated that their current tour could be their last, and this was further suggested when Jared Leto (leadsinger) spoke to Kerrang this week.

He told the magazine, “A lot of artists peak or get burned out. A lot of times they stop trying and those are all dangers. It took two years to make ‘This Is War’. Touring it has been another two years. Do I have that in me again? I don’t know.”

The National will be performing at this weekend’s Reading and Leeds Festivals alongside the likes of Pulp, The Streets and Muse.

Now in an interview with the NME, the band have strongly hinted that they will also get out some of their biggest hits during the encore. The band’s drummer Dom Howard said, “We’ll probably just do the old cheap encore and play a few hits!” This news will surely excite fans who are desperate to hear them play songs such as Time Is Running Out and Hysteria as well as the classics on Origins of Symmetry. However it remains to be seen which hits they will be bring out.

Muse have also revealed that they intend to get back in the studio following their performances at Reading and Leeds Festivals this weekend.

5. The National- This band have risen from the underground and on to the mainstream radar due to their heart-breaking and melancholic sound. Their live shows are always powerful as well and will be full of heart stopping moments and mass sing alongs. They are performing on the Main Stage on the Saturday evening at Reading and Sunday at Leeds.

4. Bombay Bicycle Club- Bombay Bicycle Club are going from strength to strength at the moment and on the eve of the release of their third record, they now have a back catalogue of hits that makes for a great live show. They are performing on the NME/ Radio 1 Stage on Saturday evening at Reading and Sunday at Leeds.

3.  Little Roy- This reggae act are renowned for their amazing covers of Nirvana songs. They offer something different from the endless cast of rock bands performing over the weekend and should definitely not be missed. They are performing on the Saturday evening at Reading and Sunday evening at Leeds on the Festival Republic Stage.

2. Muse- Muse are the biggest stadium rock band in the world at the moment and their live show is the closest you may come to an out of this world experience. They will be performing their Origins of Symmetry album in full (and maybe a few surprise tracks) to finish off the Friday at Leeds and Sunday at Reading.

1. Pulp- Reformed this year for a Summer of festival appearances, they have been wowing fans at every turn thus far. They are sure to bring out all their classic hits such as Disco 2000 and Common People and will be headlining Leeds’s Main Stage on Sunday night and playing before The Strokes at Reading on the Saturday.

According to BBC Weather, there will be thundery showers at Reading on Thursday with more rain expected for Friday. Saturday will be sunny and dry however, with highs of 19 degrees Celsius. Sunday meanwhile will be partly cloudy with sunny spells.

Over at the Leeds site, there will be sunny intervals with highs of 18 degrees Celsius on Thursday. There is a surprising risk of hail showers on the Friday but the Saturday and Sunday should be mostly dry, with plenty of sun on Saturday and highs of 19 degrees Celsius.

At the moment the punk/emo rockers are touring the US with Blink 182 and they have now announced that they plan to get back in the studio once these touring commitments are finished. Their current tour is in support of the band’s Danger Days: The True Lives of the Fabulous Kill Joys album and now fans can get excited by the prospect of their follow up to this seminal rock record.

Speaking to NME, the band said they didn’t want to keep fans waiting as long as they had to for their second album, which was released four years after their first. Frontman Matthew Murphy said: “I don’t want to leave it as long this time round. We’ll be touring right up until of the end of the festivals next summer, but after that we’ll try and put something together. Saying that though, I want it to be good, so if it’s 2045 or 2013, so be it.”

Speaking about their upcoming tour, which takes place in September and October, he said: “We’ve got lasers. They’re really expensive, but they’re amazing. We’ve got some cool visuals too, it’s going to be great.”

A source told the Sun that Elton John is a huge fan of the British band, whose name has been linked to an Olympic performance. The source said: “Elton has never put on subtle live shows but he wants the Olympic gig to be more overblown and spectacular than ever. He’s been a huge fan of Matt Bellamy’s band for years and is desperate to collaborate with them.”

The source continued: “A show during the London Olympics will be the ideal opportunity. And with Muse’s reputation as one of the best live groups in the world it’s bound to be special.”

It appeared that the band argued with someone in the crowd who continued to throw bottles at them during their set at Chelmsford. Other people then started to join in with the bottling and the band walked off stage after only performing 4 songs. Following this the band’s management issued a statement which said:

“It’s an honour for Glasvegas to play in front of any crowd. They performed at Pukkelpop before the storm blew in and we were reminded first hand how important safety of a crowd and band are. The kids that come along to the festivals are pasisonate about their music – they’ve saved and sacrificed for months to pay for tickets and want to have an amazing weekend.”

It seems that the band’s very poor reception may have been because they were performing on the Arena Stage which was not very receptive to rock music as they performed just after Katy B.

The pioneering indie band, who have twice split up over disputes between frontmen Carl Barat and Pete Doherty, are said to be planning a 2011 UK tour. This will then be followed by an early 2012 European tour, and a number of festivals in the summer.

The news came from a source in yesterday’s Sunday Mirror, which said: “Pete and Carl really enjoyed reforming the band last year for the Reading and Leeds festivals. Now Pete’s out of prison and trying to stay clean, getting the band back together is his main priority. Fortunately Carl is open to the idea of touring and getting back to what they were famous for. So long as Pete is relatively on the straight and narrow, the world is their oyster.”

Now this confrontation may reach its climax as Liam Gallagher has announced he is suing his brother Noel over comments he made about the end of Oasis. It seems Liam is furious with Noel’s previous allegations that the band cancelled their performance at V Festival because Liam had a hangover and the direct cause of the band’s split was over a clothing row.

Liam released a statement to the Sun stating, “I have taken legal action against Noel Gallagher for statements he made claiming Oasis pulled out of the 2009 V Festival Chelmsford gig because I had a hangover. That is a lie and I want Oasis fans and others who were at V to know the truth. I was gutted when I couldn’t play the gig because I didn’t want to let the fans down.”

Noel is sure to hit back at these comments and the situation is likely to get a lot worse before it gets better. Meanwhile, Liam’s new band Beady Eye will be performing at this year’s Reading and Leeds Festivals.

Pulp are brit-pop superstars who have recently come back to play a Summer of festivals, while The Strokes are New York’s indie giants who many claim to be the best indie band of the 21st century. With such illustrious careers deciding who should headline above the other was always going to be difficult, but now the headline title will be shared with Pulp to finish off the night at Leeds (they are a northern band) and The Strokes will do the same at Reading.

The hit art rock band released their universally acclaimed debut, The Fool, in October 2010, and guitarist Theresa Wyeman told NME that they were regularly thinking about the second album: “We’re all meditating on it everyday. Somebody will make up something while we’re soundchecking and we’ll be like, ‘Don’t forget that because I really want to develop that, there’s something special there.”

The all-female band also revealed the sound will be considerably different to their debut: “It’s sounding quite minimal so far which is interesting because it’s the opposite of what we’ve been doing which is normally pretty complex. I think it’ll be interesting to try and simplify that and we should experiment more with some acoustic guitars.”

Their second album is expected to be recorded in early 2012. The band will play at Reading and Leeds festivals at the end of August.

On August 9th, the Pretty Green store owned by the Beady Eye frontman was raided, with its front door and windows smashed. A huge wealth of clothes and other accessories was then taken during the riots that swept the country.

So far, just one person has been convicted of playing a part in the robbery. Owen Flanagan was sentenced to eight months in prison after taking clothes worth £175 from the store. Currently courts are still trying people arrested during the riots, so more people could still be charged in connection with the Pretty Green burglary.

The Newcastle indie stars will play Edinburgh’s Liquid Rooms on September 2nd. The show offers a rare chance to see the band, who have recently played a few small festivals but no large gigs. The show will act as a warm-up before their appearance at Bingley Music Live the following day. Edinburgh Liquid Rooms is a renowned, intimate venue so the show is likely to be one to remember.

The singer of one of the world’s biggest bands posted a message on Twitter, questioning the motive of the rioters: “A violent expression of unfairness in society or just dumb f***s yearning for a hug from daddy? This is no Uprising.” It is thought the use of the capitalised word Uprising is a reference to the Muse song of the same name.
