Snow Patrol rumoured to be close to announcing 2012 UK tour

Strong rumours are circling that Snow Patrol may soon announce a UK tour for 2012.

Internet forums are rife with speculation that the band will reveal a series of shows next year, due to the impending release of their latest, as-yet-unnamed album. Their previous album, Up To Now was an incredible success and this one is alleged to – somehow – be even better. Canadian musician Owen Pallett has written brass and string arrangements for around seven of the songs, and singer Gary Lightbody recently revealed how REM’s Michael Stipe helped him overcome writers block: “Michael made a few suggestions here and there. On a track called New York there was a line, ‘Your face has never left me.’ He said, ‘That sounds like you’ve got a girls head in your bag.’ So we changed it.”

Snow Patrol are widely acclaimed for their incredible live performances, with their main stage set at 2009′s T In The Park said to be one of the best ever of the festival. Keep checking back for news on the upcoming tour.

Cheryl Cole reportedly lands US X Factor role

UK pop star Cheryl Cole is reportedly set to be confirmed as a judge in this year’s US version of the X Factor. There has been much speculation as to whether Cole was considered to have a high enough profile in the States in order to land the role, but it now appears that television bosses have come round to the idea, provided the Girls Aloud star quits smoking.

An insider told The Sun newspaper, “Cheryl’s teacher has advised her to stop smoking. But she says the move to LA and X Factor job is stressful enough without having to try and quit the cigs on top.”

They added: “Voice coaches are determined to make her sound more American but in a natural way. Basically just so she can be understood.”

Stars of last year’s UK competition are currently taking part in the X Factor Live Tour, with shows taking place until 10th April.

Here Come The Girls is the name given to a series of gigs with performances each night by three singers: Lulu, Heather Small (of M People fame) and Anastacia. This year, Heather Small comes in to replace Chaka Khan – who was unable to take part this year.

It’s hard to think of a better combination of artists, and these three women are widely recognised as having some of the best voices in the world. Especially live in concert.

Jason Manford to host ITV comedy show

Award-winning comedian Jason Manford has been confirmed to front a new ITV variety show at the end of this month. The show, fittingly named Comedy Rocks, will see Manford and a host of comedians team up with music acts such as Pixie Lott and Scouting For Girls in an hour-long prime-time special.

The screening of the new show will fall just before Manford embarks on his highly anticipated UK stand-up tour. Top Tennis stars await the US Open Draw

Players were told of their rankings for the upcoming US Open as the first round draw is due to take place later today.

It seems that the number one seed Roger Federer is the one to beat once again, after becoming the 2009 French Open champion and the 2009 Wimbledon champion, breaking the previous record held by Pete Sampras with 15 Grand Slam titles. Roger Federer is the top seeded player for the US Open for the fifth time.

Roger Federer also won the ATP 1000 Cincinnati Masters title earlier this month, despite some suggesting the birth of his twin baby girls would cause detriment to his tennis performance.

Roger Federer has had a chance to reflect on his recent developments both on and off the court, claiming that it was unbelievable for him to win the French Open followed so closely by the win at Wimbledon.

He also claims that regaining the world number one at Wimbledon was amazing and came at the right time, now being able to call himself the world number one to his new twin daughters, Charlene Riva and Myla Rose.

Roger Federer was quick to dispel any suggestions that having the twins was going to negatively impact his career, saying that he does not see anything changing in terms of his tennis future and that he does not feel like he is being pulled back in any way. He says any impact the twins make is a positive one.

Meanwhile, Britain’s number one Andy Murray, who has been seeded second for the US Open, has declared that he can win his first Grand Slam title at the US Open and that he feels better coming into this tournament than ever before.

He seems to believe that momentum is the key, claiming that if he plays well then he can win. Andy Murray has also suggested that being able to last physically during the potential five-set matches was something he feels he has improved on.

It seems improving his fitness was something Andy Murray was serious about, having spent several weeks doing intensive training in Miami after Wimbledon, and all the hard work seems to be pulling off having won the ATP 1000 Montreal Masters (the Rogers Cup) earlier this month.

Despite trying to become the first Briton to win a Grand Slam title since Fred Perry in 1936, Andy Murray claims to feel no extra pressure because of the pressure he already puts on himself.

After all the 22 year-old has achieved and the improvements he has made to his performance, Andy Murray says winning a Grand Slam is the last thing for him to do. He would want to do it at what he describes as the best court in tennis, describing his love for the atmosphere at the US Open and his love for New York City.

Andy Murray recently booked his place to be in the top eight players competing at the end-of-season Barclays ATP World Tour Finals, which takes place from November 22 at the London O2 Arena.

Lenny Henry brings Othello to West End stage

Lenny Henry is due to take to the West End stage for this first time playing the title role in Shakespeare’s Othello.

The Comedian who made his stage acting debut in February in Othello at Leeds’ West Yorkshire Playhouse, will make his West End debut when the production transfers to Trafalgar Studios 1, where it will have a limited season from September 18 to December 12.

Lenny Henry rose to fame as a cult comedian, making his TV debut in 1975 on the New Faces talent show. He has been a regular television face ever since, appearing in shows including the BBC’s Three of a Kind, Chef!, The Lenny Henry Show, Hope and Gloryand Lenny Henry in Pieces.

Lenny Henry is joined in the cast by Conrad Nelson (as Iago) and Jessica Harris (Desdemona), as well as David Beckford (Duke/Gratiano), Matt Connor (Roderigo), Andy Cryer (Montano), Victoria Gee (Bianca), Geoff Leesley (Brabantio), Chris Pearse (Herald), Simon Holland Roberts (Senator/Lodovico), Sara Poyzer (Emilia) and Richard Standing (Cassio).

Take That Victorious in Circus Battle

It had been anticipated by many that Take That would take the top spot, but the news was only confirmed last night. Take That’s latest record, The Circus, comfortably beat Britney Spears to notch up yet another number one album title. Take That knocked The Killers from their perch as they won the race to the top of the album chart. The second highest new entry to the official UK albums chart was Britney Spears’ new album, Circus. Other artists making up this week’s top ten include Kings of Leon, Stereophonics and Girls Aloud. Take That are also riding high in the singles charts at number two behind Leona Lewis who had the highest new entry of the week with her cover of Run by Snow Patrol.

Take That are a non-mover as they hold on to the top spot for the third week running. Tickets to see the UK’s favourite are still selling fast for their 2009 summer tour. They will be stopping off in cities including Cardiff, Glasgow, Manchester and London on their 15 night haul.
