Following the West End production of the Disney movie High School Musical, comes the second installment of this three-part series.

Disney’s High School Musical 2 will open at the London New Wimbledon Theatre from August 22 before being showcased across the UK at venues like the Oxford New Theatre (from September 21), Brighton Centre (from October 15) and the Birmingham Alexandra Theatre (from December 8).

The story of High School Musical 2 is based on basketball player Troy Bolton and shy but clever Gabriella Montez (played by Zac Efron and Vanessa Hudgens in the movie), who are high school students sharing a secret passion for singing.

In High School Musical 2, Troy Bolton finds himself trying to keep his relationship with Gabriella Montez going over the summer, whilst stressing about getting a job as the high expenses of going to college comes to light.

The musical production team behind High School Musical Live on Stage! are planning a new stage version of the TV movie sequel, ‘High School Musical 2.’ The much anticipated show will launch in the UK at London’s Wimbledon Theatre in August 2009.

The production is currently already selling tickets up until January 2nd, 2010, with further dates due to be announced for 2010.

The stage production is expected to be directed by Jeff Calhoun, who has been involved in the Broadway production of Grease and Big River and the US and UK stage versions of High School Musical Live On Stage!

First broadcast in September 2007, the Disney Channel’s ‘High School Musical 2′ has been viewed by over 273 million people worldwide. .
