Jarvis studied at Saint Martins college, part of the Universty of the Arts, and played a surprise set at the university 2 weeks ago.

It is clear that the college was an important part of Pulp’s development, and the name Saint Martins college is forever in people’s thoughts owing to its reference in Common People.

Tickets for Pulp’s upcoming show at the Brixton 02 Academy have sold out in a matter of seconds.

Demand for the tickets is incredibly high and this can be largely due to the success of their festival shows at Hyde Park and Glastonbury. These performances showed the band still to possess great live energy and Jarvis Cocker’s powerful stage presence has certainly not disappeared over the years. Pulp are to release a book of their lyrics this October entitled, “Mother, Brother, Lover: Selected Lyrics.” The release of this collection of lyrics is with the publishers Faber and Faber.

Jarvis Cocker from the band revealed to the Guardian that ”When (Pulp’s lyrics) were reproduced on the record sleeves, it always used to say ‘N.B. please do not read the words while listening to the recordings.’ But I’ve accumulated a certain amount of work now and I think a lot of the appeal is that Faber have published a lot of poets I like. The idea that I could be allowed on the same shelf is very flattering. So I went back and looked at the words, and with that passage of time I realised some of them were alright.”

Cocker’s lyrics were at the forefront of the Brit-pop era, and many have labelled songs such Common People and Disco 2000 as some of the finest and most poignant British lyrics ever.

Pulp have recently reformed and are playing a Summer of festivals which has already included a surprise set at Glastonbury, which critics have labelled as a triumphant return for the band. Pulp are also set to headline this year’s Reading and Leeds Festivals and two shows at the 02 Academy Brixton.

It seems that Jarvis Cocker’s classic Brit Pop group are down for a busy Summer of festivals and shows, with the Brixton gig coming just three days after their headline slot at Reading and Leeds Festivals.

The band have delved back into their backlog of classic hits at their shows this Summer, greatly pleasing their fans.

Jarvis Cocker, frontman of 90′s sensation Pulp, confirmed they would re-release ‘It’, ‘Freaks’ and ‘Separations’ at the end of the summer.

It has been a decade since the band last performed together. Their reuniting has been welcomed back with open arms by their loyal fans. their recent return to the stage was greeted by rapturous applause.

Britpop band Pulp gave their devoted fans and hour and half of indie classics.

Frontman Jarvis Cocker was praised for the return of his ”twitching, pouty dance moves”. Clearly he and the band were happy to be back on stage and likewise the audience were thrilled to have them back.  Performing all the classics Pulp delivered a cracking gig, showing their value in the industry.

In a statement on the bands’ website, they say “During the process of learning to play the old songs again we have been consulting the versions posted by various persons on the internet. Very educational! So we thought we’d share some of our favourites with you.”

Pulp decided to reform late last year and will play a string of festival dates in 2011. Frontman Jarvis Cocker says the positive reaction to the bands’ announcement was ‘an inspiration’.

Running from June the 10th to the 19th, the Festival will be started and finished by performances from Davies himself, with acts inbetween including The Fugs, in their first London show since 1968, and a re-creation of iconic 60′s TV show ‘Ready, Steady, Go!’

The curtain closer will see Davies take to the stage with the London Philharmonic Orchestra and the Crouch End Festival Chorus.

The reunion will include the band’s original line-up – Nick Banks, Jarvis Cocker, Candida Doyle, Steve Mackey, Russell Senior and Mark Webber.

Doves are up first. Doves will headline the John Peel stage on Friday 26 June. Jarvis Cocker will headline the tent on the Saturday (June 27), while Echo And The Bunnymen will bring things to a close on the Sunday night (June 28). Echo And The Bunnymen are planning to perform their 1984 album, Ocean Rain, in the John Peel stage at the 2009 Glastonbury Festival.

A number of top acts to have already been announced for the 2009 Glastonbury Festival include Blur, Bruce Springsteen, Franz Ferdinand, Kasabian, Lily Allen and Neil Young.

A number of this year’s Glastonbury Festival headliners are also performing live elsewhere in the UK this year.

Britpop legends, Blur, play a series of concerts this summers. Blur are set to perform at Southend Cliffs Pavilion on June 21 and Wolverhampton Civic Hall on June 24.  Blur then play a huge show at Manchester Evening News Arena (June 26) before performing back -to-back concerts at London Hyde Park (July 2 & 3). Franz Ferdinand are on tour this October. The 2009 Franz Ferdinand tour kicks off at Aberdeen Music Hall on October 11. Franz Ferdinand also visit Newcastle O2 Academy (15 Ocotber), Manchester Academy (17 Ocotber) and Brixton O2 Academy. Jarvis Cocker is set to release his second solo album this summer and the tour will no doubt give fans a chance to sample his latest material.
