The idea that I could be allowed on the same shelf is very flattering. So I went back and looked at the words, and with that passage of time I realised some of them were alright.”

Cocker’s lyrics were at the forefront of the Brit-pop era, and many have labelled songs such Common People and Disco 2000 as some of the finest and most poignant British lyrics ever.

Pulp have recently reformed and are playing a Summer of festivals which has already included a surprise set at Glastonbury, which critics have labelled as a triumphant return for the band.
