Jerusalem returns to the stage for more UK dates

Jerusalem is to once more come into theatres in the UK, and will be performed at London’s Apollo Theatre from the 8th October.

When the play was first performed at the Royal Court Theatre London in 2009 it received exceptionally good reviews.

The Times “Jerusalem is a bold, ebullient and often hilarious State-of-England or (almost) State-of-Olde-England play…[Johnny] is a shrewd, bold, defiant, charismatic, even mesmeric man born out of his time. ”

Following these very good critical reviews, the play was then moved on to London’s West End and then onto Broadway. The play is now coming back to London this Autumn and tickets are likely to be in high demand.

The play centres around the character of maverick Johnny Byron. The part of Johnny will be played by Mark Rylance and Mackenzie Crook as Ginger, along with much of the original cast.

Jerusalem star gets Best Actor award

Jerusalem came away from last night’s Laurence Olivier awards with two prizes, including a Best Actor gong for star Mark Rylance. The modern play debuted to rave reviews in 2009, and has since been transferred to London’s West End with great effect. Jerusalem follows the tale of waster Johnny Byron, who faces eviction from his flat, drug demands from friends and a battle to keep his son satisfied. With a fine cast that includes The Office and Pirates Of The Caribbean star Mackenzie Crook, it is clear to see why this play has had audiences and critics unanimous in their praise.

MacKenzie Crook is back on stage

Following a number of hugely successful roles both on screen and on stage, The Office star is set to be back performing in the West End in January.

Mackenzie Crook will be performing the lead role in Jerusalem, the play that enjoyed a succesful stint at the Royal Court Theatre last year. The production has been brought back to the capital by popular demand and will be showing at the Shaftesbury Avenue Apollo Theatre this month.
