Manic Street Preachers and Gruff Rhys nominated for Welsh Music Prize

Manic Street Preachers and Gruff Rhys are leading the way on the shortlist for the inaugural Welsh Music Prize.

The shortlist encompasses a wide variety of genres and is a celebration of Welsh music over the past twelve months. Acts who were also on the shortlist of 12 artists include Joy Formidable, Funeral For A Friend and The Blackout.

The winner of the coveted music prize will be announced in Cardiff this October. Gruff Rhys will also be heading out on an extensive tour of the UK this Autumn.

The full list of stage times has been confirmed for next weekend’s Leeds Festival.

The three-day event is held at Bramham Park from Friday 26th – Sunday 28th August. Friday will see Muse headline the main stage, whilst on Saturday My Chemical Romance take the top spot, and Sunday sees a joint headline position shared by The Strokes and Pulp.

The full stage times have been released for this weekend’s Reading Festival.

Taking place from this Friday (August 26th) to Sunday (August 28th) and will see headline performances from My Chemical Romance, The Strokes and Pulp, and Muse will close the festival. The festival has music kicking off from 11.00-11.30 each day.

The Joy Formidable almost finished next album

The Joy Formidable are one of Britain’s most exciting new rock bands in the business and they have already been hailed by the Foo Fighters frontman Dave Grohl as the next big thing.

They released their debut album, The Big Roar in January and now it appears that their follow up could come a lot sooner than anticipated. In an interview with the NME, singer Ritzy Bryan commented,

“We started the second album ages ago. We write all the time, even when we’re on the road, because we record ourselves, we build collections of songs quite quickly. We have about 15 or 20 already, but lots of other bits too, there’ll be lots to choose from when we eventually sit down and sort it out.”

This news will certainly excite all Joy Formidable fans out there who are eager to hear what the Welsh trio will do next. Before they release any new material the band will be playing this year’s Reading and Leeds Festival before embarking on their own tour in the Autumn.

Dave Grohl has been spotted at a Soundgarden gig in Los Angeles and footage has been uploaded on Youtube, watch below.

The Foo Fighters frontman appeared amongst punters jumping up and down to the classic rock anthems of Soundgarden and this certainly demonstrates the common man character that Grohl possesses.

The Foo Fighters recently closed T in the Park in what both the audience and critics alike have praised as an amazing show. The Foo Fighters will also be touring America this Summer and will be supported by up and coming Welsh band The Joy Formidable.

Joy Formidable to tour with the Foo Fighters

It has been revealed that up and coming Welsh rockers, Joy Formidable will tour with the Foo Fighter on their recent US tour. They will join with Dave Grohl and co. on the East coast section of their tour.

Earlier in the year, Foo Fighters frontman Dave Grohl told of his love for the Joy Formidable and called their song Whiring the song of the year. Speaking to Xfm at Benicassiam, Ritzy from the band said.

“You don’t listen to a lot of the stuff that’s written about you and things people say about you but in terms of coming from him and what he’s done and bands he’s been in that is an accolade that is worth a little smile – we had a few bottles of champagne when we found out.”

Joy Formidable will also play at this year’s Reading and Leeds Fesitvals before embarking on their own headline UK tour.

Excitement builds for London’s Lovebox Weekender

It is just three weeks until the Lovebox Weekender festival arrives in London for three days of exciting headliners and upcoming new artists.

Taking place in London’s Victoria Park and founded by Groove Armada, the weekend music festival has been labelled “London’s most convincing festival” by NME, and although only running since 2002, has become a firm favourite within the young festival-goers scene.

Headlining the Gaymers Stage on Friday (July 15th) are The Wombats, with support coming from Example and Metronomy. Ed Banger headlines the Relentless Energy Drink Arena. Also appearing on Friday are Ms Dynamite, Vice and Aeroplane.

Saturday (July 16th) features headliner Snoop Dogg take to the main stage, supported by Katy B, Santigold (formerly Santogold) and Jessie J. The Drums, Lykke Li and The Joy Formidable appear on The Gaymers Stage, with Groove Armada set to headline the Relentless Energy Drink Arena.

On Sunday (July 17th) Scissor Sisters will headline the main stage, with 2ManyDJs, Blondie and Beth Ditto supporting. On The Gaymers Stage Robyn and Kelis headline, while This Is… Circus headline the Relentless Energy Drink Arena.

The Welsh trio have confirmed a UK and Ireland tour to kick off in October.

Jessie J and Beth Ditto have been confirmed to play this year’s Lovebox festival.

The three-day event, which is held in London’s Victoria Park, is to be headlined by The Wombats, Snoop Dogg and Scissor Sisters.

Jessie J is to play the main stage on Saturday, while Beth Ditto will appear on the Sunday. Other acts added to the bill include Santigold, The Joy Formidable and Cherryghost.

Lovebox is to be held between July 15 and July 17.

Guillemots and We Are Scientists added to Dot to Dot line up

Guillemots and We Are Scientists are amongst the latest additions for Dot To Dot festival.

Spread across three cities, Dot To Dot is nothing if not ambitious. The event moves between Bristol, Nottingham and Manchester with countless venues due to host an eclectic bill which is still being formulated.

London trio The Joy Formidable are set to drop by, while …And You Will Know Us By The Trail Of Dead are also due to perform at this year’s Dot To Dot.

Adding a host of new names to the bill, organisers for Dot To Dot have announced a special performance from Guillemots. Building up to the release of their new album, the orchestral pop outfit have been playing a series of special shows.

Dot To Dot Organiser Anton Lockwood said: “Today we’re excited to add two of our long term favourite bands to the ever growing Dot To Dot line-up. We Are Scientists never fail to deliver an energetic and fun live show, and will definitely bring the party to Dot To Dot 2011. Guillemots are a band reinvigorated after Fyfe Dangerfield’s solo excursions, and it will be great to see their new, tightly focussed live show. And we’ve got many, many more new breakthrough bands to come! Can’t wait!”

Dot to Dot Festival champions itself on new music and previous acts to play are Dirty Pretty Things in 2008 and Friendly Fires in 2009.

My Chemical Romance, The Strokes and Muse to headline Reading and Leeds Festival

My Chemical Romance will be headlining Reading on the Friday and Leeds on Saturday, with support from 30 Seconds To Mars, The Offspring, Deftones, Rise Against, Bring Me The Horizon, The Blackout and Architects.

The Strokes will top the bill at Reading on Saturday and Leeds on Sunday, along with performances from Pulp, The National, Jimmy Eat World, Madness, Two Door Cinema Club, Seasick Steve, The Pigeon Detectives and The Joy Formidable.

Muse will headline Reading on Sunday and Friday in Leeds, with support from Elbow, Interpol, Friendly Fires, Enter Shikari, The View, Frank Turner and We Are The Ocean.

Beady Eye, Janes Addiction, 2many DJ’s, White Lies, Crystal Castles, The Streets, Noah and the Whale, Bombay Bicycle Club and Death From Above 1979 have also all been confirmed to appear across the weekend.

Reading Festival will take place at Richfield Avenue from the 26th to 28th August, whilst Leeds Festival will take place at Bramham Park across the same weekend. Weekend tickets will be priced at around £190, whilst day tickets will be priced at £80.

It has been confirmed that veteran rockers Echo And The Bunnymen will perform at this years Camden Crawl Festival in London.

Brighton’s Great Escape festival has expanded its line up to include The Maccabees, White Denim, School Of Seven Bells, Chairlift and James Yuill.

The festival considered by many to be Britain’s answer to south by south west will once more take place across a number of venues in and around Brighton between May 14 and May16, will also see the likes of Kasabian, Future Of The Left, Micachu And The Shapes, The Soft Pack and VV Brown take part.

The Great Escape line-up now includes Metronomy, Kissy Sell Out, Future Of The Left, The Big Pink, Passion Pit, Micachu And The Shapes, It Hugs Back, Esser, VV Brown, Ben Kweller, Johnny Foreigner, Dananakroyd, Let’s Wrestle, The Chapman Family, Your Twenties, Golden Silvers, Bell X1, Kasms, The Soft Pack, An Experiment On A Bird In The Air Pump, Vivian Girls, Middle Class Rut Pulled Apart By Horses, A Grave With No Name, Tin Can Telephone, Yves Klein Blues, John Steel Blues Band, The Joy Formidable, To The Bones, Cassie And The Cassettes, Fanzine, The Maccabees, White Denim, School Of Seven Bells, Chairlift, Jamies Yuill, The Boxer Rebellion, The Mae Shi, Abe Vigoda, DM Stith, Fan Death, Heartbreak, Magic Magic, We Were Promised Jet Packs, The XX, Hot Silk Pockets, Casiokids, Ulterior, Rainbow Arabia, Harry’s Gym, Three Trapped Tigers, The Week That Was, Skind And Demoralised, Trailer Trash Tracys, Dan Black, The New Wine, Rodney Fisher, Futurecop!, Rogues, Ou Est Le Swimming Pool, Conan Mockasin, Marina And The Diamonds, Meme Love, Miranda Lee Richards, The Brute Chorus.

Metronomy, The Golden Silvers and a host of hotly-tipped acts including The Soft Pack, VV Brown, The Big Pink and Passion Pit are to perform at the three-day event in Brighton.

The new music festival, the UK’s answer to Austin’s SXSW festival, will see more than 300 artists performing across 34 venues from 14-16 May.

Last year The Ting Tings and Vampire Weekend played at the event.

Other acts confirmed for this year’s line-up include Kissy Sell Out, Esser, Future Of The Left, Micachu, Pulled Apart By Horses, The Chapman Family, Johnny Foreigner, Dananakroyd, Yves Klein Blue, John Steel Blues Band and The Joy Formidable.

Tickets for the event, which is now in its fourth year, are currently on sale now.

In previous years, The Great Escape has helped to break acts such as The Klaxons, The Kooks, Glasvegas, Gossip, Adele, Jack Penate, Gallows, Kate Nash, Sam Sparro and Crystal Castles.

Many of Great Escape acts both past and present are currently on tour with tickets still available via tixdaq for Metronomy, The Big Pink, Passion Pit, The Ting Tings, Esser, Adele and Gallows.
