Arctic Monkeys’ Alex Turner praises Kylie Minogue

In a recent interview with Shortlist, Arctic Monkeys’ Alex Turner has told of his admiration for Australian pop sensation Kylie Minogue.

He went on to speak about pop music as a whole and commented, “Yeah, that’s the thing when you talk about pop music dominating. It’s not like it’s all s*it and we’re dead against it. That’s not the case at all, because there are some great pop songs.”

He went on to comment how he was not a fan of Lady Gaga, despite it being reported that he was. He added “But no, Lady GaGa – it’s not my cup of tea, that.”

Arctic Monkeys will be touring the UK this Autumn after their headline performance at V Festival this weekend.

JLS in talks to work with Rihanna

British boy-band JLS are in talks to collaborate with Rihanna, according to group member Ortise Williams.

Speaking to BANG Showbiz, the star said, ‘We are in talks to collaborate with Rihanna. Let’s see what happens there. We hope so.’

The singer also revealed that the band have got their eyes on other possible collaborations.

‘We haven’t actually collaborated with a solo female artist apart from Kylie Minogue.

‘Nicole Scherzinger would be amazing. We should give it a try.

‘I’m a huge fan of Adele, I’d absolutely love to collaborate with Adele. That would be absolutely amazing. Also Jessie J. That would be very, very incredible.’

The American singer is fighting off competition from second place Madonna and Lady GaGa in third.

Perry is riding high on the success of recent singles, as other artists such as Michael Jackson, Kylie Minogue and Prince struggle to make an impact in the poll.

Kylie’s tour to air on television in 3D

Sky has announced that Kylie Minogue’s The Aphrodite – Les Folies tour is to get its television premiere this summer on the Sky 3D channel.

The Australian popstar’s final date at London’s O2 Arena was filmed in 3D on the 12th of April and will air on Sky 3D at 7pm on June 19. The tour includes 30 costumes made by Dolce and Gabbana and fountains propelling water into the air.

The acclaimed tour also had a heart-shaped stage with more than a million moving parts, enabling Kylie’s dancers to float above the audience.

Filmed in 3D by Sky, the 90-minute concert includes hits from Kylie’s 20 year career, including ‘Can’t Get You Out of My Head’ and ‘Better The Devil You Know’.

“I’m so proud of this tour. Everyone has pulled out the stops to give my fans a truly unique concert experience,” said Kylie. “So I’m excited we have been able to use the power of 3D TV to give audiences at home the chance to get a front row experience.”

John Cassy, channel director of Sky 3D, added: “If ever a show was made for 3D it is The Aphrodite – Les Folies. From the costumers to the choreographer and the fountains to the flying angel, Kylie has excelled herself. Fans of Kylie are in for a treat – it will feel as if the concert is taking place in their living rooms.”

Kylie slashes ticket prices for tour

Kylie Minogue has slashed the price of tickets for her ‘Les Folies’ tour in half.

The ‘Can’t Get You Outta My Head’ singer is due to perform five nights at London’s O2 Arena next week, but has had to cut the cost of tickets to £28.40 from a face value of £65.00, reports Stereoboard.

Minogue has already taken the tour across Europe, performing in Germany, France and Spain. Following her shows in London next week, the singer will take the tour to Japan, Canada and the United States, finishing up in her Australian homeland in June.

The star has previously revealed that her show will contain a “splash zone”, which she describes as “highly technical”.

It was recently reported that Minogue has bought a £16 million flat in London.

Kylie Minogue has splashed out on a luxury London apartment, as she prepares to begin her 5-night O2 Arena residency in the capital. The singer will move into the £16million home with boyfriend Andres Velencoso, according to the Daily Star newspaper.

The three bedroom property is part of the One Hyde Park development in the city’s exclusive Knightsbridge district.

Kylie Minogue thrilled fans in Scotland by inviting them backstage at a recent concert. The singer was happy to meet a group of sick children prior to her gig after she was contacted by local charity fundraiser Les Hoey.

Minogue, who has previously battled breast cancer, chatted with the kids and posed for pictures with them backstage.

Hoey told Scotland’s Daily Record, “It’s amazing what meetings like these can do for the kids. I can’t thank Kylie enough.”

The ‘Get Outta My Way’ singer told Metro that it would be “awesome” if she could team up with Spears for a duet.

Of the prospect of a collaboration, Minogue said: “I’m sure it would be a great thing. I think she’s great. I’ve met her before and we’ve worked with some of the same people who help put our tours together.”

Regarding a Twitter exchange about Spears’s new album Femme Fatale, Minogue said: “I tweeted that because there’s a song from the deluxe edition, ‘He About To Lose Me’, that’s in my head before I go to sleep.

“I play it off my computer when I’m here [in my dressing room] and I just wanted to say I am excited about it. She was glad to hear it!”

Kylie Minogue feels let down by record label

Kylie Minogue has accused her record label of being too old fashioned and letting her down.

In an interview with Australia’s Sunday Times, Minogue said her label, Parlophone, was the reason behind poor sales of her recent singles.

Minogue’s single, ‘All the Lovers’, reached number three in the UK Charts. But two other songs taken from album, ‘Aphrodite’, did not trouble the top 10.

Minogue said: “It’s confusing. I felt a little let down with my releases from Aphrodite. I was caught out like a lot of artists were, with record companies figuring out how to do single releases these days.

“I remember doing a promo for one of the last singles and it just felt really old-fashioned. I’m pretty computer-savvy, something didn’t feel right, but no one said anything to me.”

Kylie Minogue has revealed that she considers quitting music everytime she finishes touring, but cannot go through with the idea due to her ‘addiction’ to music. The 42-year-old said: ‘Something happens a few months down the line and I start thinking of songs and getting that itch… What can I say? I’m addicted.’

The singer also spoke about her latest tour, Aphrodite – Les Folies, revealing that she thinks it will be her best yet. ‘There were a few coronaries over the cost but I’ve been touring for 20 years and I want this to be the most fantastic show ever. This is me completely pushing the boat out.’

This weekend the O2 Arena plays host to Capital FM’s charity event, the Jingle Bell Ball. The event runs for two nights, on Saturday 4th and Sunday 5th December, and is in aid of the charity Help A London Child. The event is hosted by Capital Radio DJs Johnny Vaughan, Lisa Snowdon, Richard Clarke and Kat Shoob.

Kylie Minogue has announced extra dates for her 2011 tour and tickets will go on sale on Monday, 29th November.

The pop princess began her career on Australian soap Neighbours, and has since been propelled to superstardom with a music career spanning over 20 years. In that time she has has number one hits with “I Should Be So Lucky”, “Spinning Around” and “Can’t Get You Out Of My Head”. Her latest album “Aphrodite”, released in July 2010, became her 5th album to reach number one.

She headlines the Jingle Bell Ball on the 5th December this year, before commencing her tour in Spring 2011.

Rumours are circulating that The Rolling Stones may be set to headline Glastonbury 2011. Glastonbury tickets went on sale last week, priced at £200 each, and completely sold out in just over four hours.

U2 are all but confirmed to fill one of the headline slots after being unable to perform at last year’s event. Kylie Minogue is another act strongly rumoured to top the bill, and now The Rolling Stones have emerged as possibly the third and final headline act.

Although Glastonbury tickets are sold out, a second release is expected to be announced in the coming months. Tickets are only available through Seetickets, once customers have registered at www.glastonburyfestivals.co.uk.

The first batch of Glastonbury tickets sold out in just four hours yesterday, after festival organiser Michael Eavis confirmed last week that this year’s headline acts are better than ever. Tickets to the festival cost around £200 each and as expected, did not last long after going on sale at 9am.

Speculation is strong that U2 will fill one of the headline slots after being unable to perform at last year’s event. Kylie Minogue is another name set to be confirmed, with acts such as Beyoncé, Coldplay, Madonna, Prince and Radiohead also being discussed.

Many were left disappointed to miss out on their Glastonbury tickets, but will be given another opportunity when the second release is announced in the coming months.

Kylie Minogue plans series of live “anti gigs”

Ever since Kylie Minogue released her new album Aphrodite, speculation has been mounting over when she will tour in support of the LP – especially after joining Scissor Sisters on stage at Glastonbury to rapturous reception.

According to midweek charts, Aphrodite is currently on schedule to go to number one in eight countries around the world, and Kylie is about to return to the UK after the album launch in Ibiza.

The Australian pop star gave a recent interview to the Daily Star in which she revealed she plans to schedule a UK tour later this year – as well as play some special fan-only shows of rarities and B-sides.

Leona Lewis has signed an exclusive deal with publishers BMG Rights Management for her latest release Echo and future work. She puts her trust in the hands of the company that has helped Kylie Minogue do so well over the years, and BMG Managing Director Tony Moss said, “Leona is a staggering musical talent, going from strength to strength as her songwriting develops. We’re thrilled to be working with her and her management team.”

Duffy scores Brit Awards hat-trick

Duffy stole the show at last night’s Brit Awards, taking home the awards for Best Album, Best Solo Female Artist and Best Breakthrough Act. Other winners included Kings of Leon who took home the awards for Best International Album and Best International Group, Elbow won the Best Group award, Katy Perry was named Best International Female and Iron Maiden took home the award for Best Live Act. As many had expected, Paul Weller picked up the Best Male Solo Artist award. Pet Shop Boys picked up the Outstanding Contribution to Music award and Florence and the Machine won the Critics’ Choice award.

The 2009 Brit Awards took place at London Earl’s Court last night and featured live performances from the likes of Kylie Minogue, Coldplay, Take That and Kings of Leon.

A number of last night’s winners are on tour this year and tickets are selling fast. Katy Perry, Elbow, Kings of Leon and Paul Weller will be touring the UK in 2009. Elbow kick off their tour at Brighton Dome on February 28. Elbow tickets are available from £52. The Paul Weller tour kicks off on March 17 and Paul Weller tickets are available from £49.50. Kings of Leon play a series of massive shows at the London O2 Arena and the Manchester Evening News Arena in June. Kings of Leon tickets are available from £85.

Coldplay, who failed to pick up any Brit Awards, embark on their 2009 stadium tour in September. The Coldplay tour kicks off at Lancashire County Cricket Ground in Manchester on September 12 and draws to a close in London at Wembley Stadium on September 19. Hundreds of Coldplay tickets are available from £44
