The video for Man Down, released earlier this week, was criticised because it begins a scene where Rihanna appears to shoot a man who is later alluded to trying to rape her.

in a series of messages on Twitter, Rihanna said the video had received a “tremendous response” from her followers.

She added: “Young girls/women all over the world…we are a lot of things! We’re strong innocent fun flirtatious vulnerable, and sometimes our innocence can cause us to be naïve!

“We always think it could NEVER be us, but in reality, it can happen to ANY of us! So ladies be careful and listen to your mama. I love you and I care.”

Man Down is the latest single to be taken from Rihanna’s recent album Loud. The singer will perform UK shows later this year as part of her World tour, with Rihanna tickets available to buy online.

“We’ve put down a few ideas, but we don’t know how many will end up on there,” he told Billboard. “They have a very special way of working. A song is never done until the day before it comes out almost, so you never know. They’re always experimenting, so it’s not like, ‘OK, we’re finished’. It’s still an ongoing process.”

He continued: “Bono described it as futuristic. U2 going sci-fi, or something. That’s how he described it, but I don’t know.”

Asked about his approach to making music with the band, he admitted: “I’m a guitar player, so it was just me and Bono and Edge playing guitar, exchanging melodies. We were just like musicians jamming. I loved it.”

U2 are scheduled to headline this year’s Glastonbury alongside Beyoncé and Coldplay.
