Taken from today’s London Evening Standard, here are the hottest open-air gigs and festivals coming up this summer across the City of London. There is plenty to see and do, and this summer looks set to be one of London’s busiest in years, with both the elite forces of Sport and Music all converging on one City. The US hip-hop star headlined the festival after performances from the likes of The Drums, Katy B, Lykke Li and Groove Armada throughout the day. Fans braved the rain for most of the day at the Victoria Park event, and were rewarded with renditions of tracks such as Gin and Juice and Who Am I?

The rain is set to hit the festival site yet again today, with Scissor Sisters, Blondie, Robyn, 2Many DJ’s and Kelis all set to perform.

Friday festival-goers may consider themselves lucky, as the weather in London for the remainder of the weekend is expected to take a turn for the worse.

Today, acts such as The Drums, Katy B and Lykke Li will perform on the main stage, which will also host a headline performance from Snoop Dogg, who will play his classic album Duoggystyle in full.

Scissor Sisters will close the festival tomorrow evening and will be supported by Blondie and Robyn.

The international superstar will perform in Liverpool, London, Cardiff and Glasgow in October. The rapper’s tour is in support of latest album Doggumentary. Tomorrow night the star will headline London’s Lovebox Weekender festival in Victoria Park.

The festival takes place from this Friday (July 15th) to Sunday (July 17th) in London’s Victoria Park. Headlining this year are The Wombats, Snoop Dogg and Scissor Sisters, with artists including Metronomy, Blondie, Example, 2 Many DJs, Santigold, Katy B, The Drums and Lykke Li also set to appear.

Unfortunately, although Friday is set to be dry, weather reports suggest both Saturday and Sunday could be victims of heavy rain, although warm temperatures should prevail.

The legendary rap artist yesterday revealed that he would play a show at London’s O2 Arena on October 7th, and today added to that with a further UK date. As well as the London show, Snoop Dogg will perform in Cardiff on October 8th. It is expected that he will add more shows to the tour in due course.

Snoop Dogg is also headlining the Lovebox Weekender festival this Saturday (July 16th).

It has also been announced today that Snoop will play at London’s O2 Arena on the 7th October, with tickets going on sale this Friday.

This exciting new show announcement comes following a very busy Summer for the rapper. He is jetting off to Ibiza for the first time and playing Amnesia as well as playing at this weekend’s Lovebox Weekender.

Now they are back once more and it has been revealed today that their new album, Portamento, will be released on September 12th. The first single from the new album is to be called Money and will be out on September 5th.

It has also been announced that The Drums will be playing 3 London shows to promote the album in September. The band will be playing Hoxton Bar and Kitchen, the Lexington and XOYO in early September.

The Drums will also be playing the Lovebox Weekender, on the Saturday.

The festival features headline performances from The Wombats (Friday 15th), Snoop Dogg (Saturday 16th) and Scissor Sisters (Sunday 17th). Also appearing over the three days are Example, Metronomy, Santigold, Katy B, 2manydjs, Blondie, The Drums Lykke Li, Robyn and Kelis.

For festival-goers wondering “where next?” after Friday and Saturday’s music, organisers have lined-up two great nights. Friday will see the official afterparty at the nearby Cargo club, with Special Guest Aeroplane playing the best of house, electro and disco. Saturday sees the party move to Ministry of Sound, where Lovebox founders Groove Armada perform a DJ set in one room, while Fenech Soler DJ in another.

The indie-rock trio will play at the O2 Academy Liverpool on December 8th and December 9th. These dates will follow their September tour, in support of their new album The Wombats proudly present… This Modern Glitch. The band are also booked to play T4 On The Beach, Lovebox Weekender and V Festival.

The New York band admitted the problems during an interview with Dirrtymusic.com, with singer Jonathan Pierce revealing: “We have faced trials. The guitarist left, there were a lot of shouting matches. Two weeks ago, we came very close to splitting. But that has nourished the album, I think.”

The band’s second album, Portamento, has yet to be given a release date. The band are set to play London’s Lovebox Weekender festival on July 16th, and Bestival in September.

The foot injury  has forced Jessie J to cancel of all her festival appearances this summer.

Despite the cancellation by the enigmatic poster, Lovebox promises to be the biggest and best edition of the festival. Acts over the three days include Example, Ed Sheeran, Snoop Dogg and Scissor Sisters.

Speaking to Q magazine, she revealed, “I’ve had people say ‘I wanna kill you and your family.’ Death threats. I’ve had people say, ‘I hope you get HIV and throat cancer at the same time. The singer-songwriter recently performed at Glastonbury, and as well as playing at festivals including Lovebox Weekender, The Big Chill and V Festival, will go on a headline tour in October.

She also has been told she has been called a devil worshipper: “People have played Do It Like A Dude backwards and said they can hear the devil. But people who wanna spread bad energy – I ain’t got time for them to be in my psyche.”

The Brooklyn band posted the video onto their official website, and it can be seen here. The short film shows them in the studio recording for the as-of-yet untitled follow-up to 2010 debut The Drums. The video however is titled Portamento and features the word Portamento flashing up on screen, fuelling rumours that it could be the title of the new album.

The indie-pop band have recently undergone a line-up change, with guitarist Adam Kessler and two new members recruited for live shows – Chris Stein and Myles Matheny.

They will play the Lovebox Weekender festival in London on July 16th.

Taking place in London’s Victoria Park and founded by Groove Armada, the weekend music festival has been labelled “London’s most convincing festival” by NME, and although only running since 2002, has become a firm favourite within the young festival-goers scene.

Headlining the Gaymers Stage on Friday (July 15th) are The Wombats, with support coming from Example and Metronomy. Ed Banger headlines the Relentless Energy Drink Arena. Also appearing on Friday are Ms Dynamite, Vice and Aeroplane.

Saturday (July 16th) features headliner Snoop Dogg take to the main stage, supported by Katy B, Santigold (formerly Santogold) and Jessie J. The Drums, Lykke Li and The Joy Formidable appear on The Gaymers Stage, with Groove Armada set to headline the Relentless Energy Drink Arena.

On Sunday (July 17th) Scissor Sisters will headline the main stage, with 2ManyDJs, Blondie and Beth Ditto supporting. On The Gaymers Stage Robyn and Kelis headline, while This Is… Circus headline the Relentless Energy Drink Arena.

Jake Shears from the Scissor Sisters is writing the music for the film of Fraggle Rock.

The classic 80′s show Fraggle rock featured puppets bursting into song at any given point for any reason – it is a cult show which is sorely missed. Having someone as hedonistic as Jake writing the music will surely bring the characters back to life.

According to the production companies involved ‘we can make music and integral part of the film; as important and as emotionally effective as the filmmaking’ no pressure there then Jake!

One half of the bands singers, Ana Matronic, gossiped that the band would perform at least one new track: ”I’m hoping that we’ll actually be playing a new song that people have not heard at all,”

Jake Shears, the other half of the bands vocals has been working away on his musical and so Ana & the band have been doing the new album without him:  ”Jake is out in San Francisco finishing up work on his musical which debuts in just a few weeks. We’re writing without him and he’s going to come back in June and then we are all going to work together and try and put out a new album.”

As ever with the Scissor Sisters, we were left guessing, when Ana hinted that another act may join them on stage  for a “collaboration between us and another that is playing that day. We will leave the surprise for July.” owwwwwwww.

”A lot of kids that I work with, I take under my wing. There’s one living with us now that was an at-risk kid. He’s becoming more productive. As opposed to being a great athlete, we’re making him a great person,” Dogg said.

He added: ”Around the whole world, I’m looked at as a good guy. Not as a villain or a drug dealer or the gangbanger I came in as.”

Snoop Dogg will play a one-off gig in London next month at the HMV Forum, before returning in July to play in Manchester and at the Lovebox Weekender.

The three-day event, which is held in London’s Victoria Park, is to be headlined by The Wombats, Snoop Dogg and Scissor Sisters.

Jessie J is to play the main stage on Saturday, while Beth Ditto will appear on the Sunday. Other acts added to the bill include Santigold, The Joy Formidable and Cherryghost.

Lovebox is to be held between July 15 and July 17.

Mark Ronson also said that his new record will be even be superior to Amy Winehouse’s seminal album ‘Back to Black,’ which he had a hand in producing. The ‘Record Collection’ is due to hit shelves in July, under the name ‘Mark Ronson and the Business.’

Dizzee Rascal is currently set to headline the Friday night (July 16) of the Lovebox Weekender. The event draws to a close on the Sunday (July 18) and is undoubtedly going to be one of the best to date.

Before Dizzee Rascal headlines the Lovebox Weekender, the UK rapper is set to embark on his 2010 tour. The Dizzee Rascal tour kicks off next February . Dizzee Rascal is set to visit a number of top venues across the UK including Doncaster Dome (February 27), Brighton Centre (March 2), MEN Arena (March 5) and the O2 Arena in London on March 7. Dizzee Rascal will be joined by Lily Allen for the two massive shows at the MEN Arena and the O2 Arena.

The second album from Simian Mobile Disco is called Temporary Pleasure and is due for release on August 17.

Collaborations with lead singer of The Gossip, Beth Ditto, and Super Furry Animals front man, Gruff Rhys, are expected to feature on the new album.

The Gossip and Super Furry Animals will be performing at various summer festivals this year.

The Simian Mobile Disco tour that will follow the release of new album Temporary Pleasure will last for 11 shows starting at Cardiff University on September 24 and concluding at the Birmingham Institute on October 10.

Doves have confirmed that they are to headline this year’s Lovebox Weekender festival due to take place at London‘s Victoria Park this coming July 18 and 19.
