Primal Scream to headline Edinburgh New Year’s Eve celebrations

Primal Scream are to headline this year’s Hogmanay New Year’s Eve concert in Edinburgh.

Taking the prestigious slot on December 31st, the band are to play their 1991 album, Screamadelica, in full. The show offers fans a rare opportunity to see the band, whose only other UK appearance will be at Bestival this September. Previous artists who have performed at the event include Madness, Kasabian, Groove Armada, Blondie and Biffy Clyro.

Primal Scream tickets will go on sale this Thursday (September 1st).

5. Danny Byrd: Danny Byrd has now acclaimed the status as one of the god fathers of drum and bass and has an array of classic tunes that never fail to send the masses into a frenzy of madness. He is playing on the Saturday evening on the Radio 1 Xtra stage.

4. Afrojack: Performing on the North Stage on the Sunday evening, Afrojack is not to be missed. He is one of the biggest house DJs in the world at the moment and will offer fans an amazing live show.

3. Swedish House Mafia: Expect insane crowd reactions, a huge light show and note perfect house beats. Swedish House Mafia are currently the biggest DJs in the world and they will be bringing their live show from Miami to Ibiza to Creamfields 2011 on the Sunday evening.

2. Magnetic Man: Skream, Artwork and Benga (aka Magnetic Man) currently have a stronghold over the dub-step industry and are in huge demand at the moment. They have a live show that is full of energy and mayhem and they will be playing on the Saturday evening on the South Stage.

1. Chemical Brothers: These two DJs from South London have a career spanning decades and have achieved almost everything there is to achieve in their industry. They will bring all their classic anthems, as well as a magnificent light show to the South Stage on the Saturday night. This is one show that you really don’t want to miss.

Madness set to release new album in 2012

Suggs, the frontman of Madness, has confirmed that next year will see the release of a new Madness album.

It will be their first album since 2009′s The Liberty of Norton Folgate, and their eleventh record overall. Speaking to Digital Spy, Suggs said: “It’ll definitely come out next year – hopefully we’ll finish it this year. We were hoping to get it done but then we decided to postpone the whole thing because we weren’t completely satisfied with what we’ve done so far.”

He continued: “We’re working on it and I think that’s the thing… when you’re young you have all the time in the world. We don’t spend 24 hours a day working on music like we used to when we were younger, so you have to do it in batches – sporadic, intense.”

The band are set to perform at this weekend’s Leeds and Reading Festivals, as well as September’s Ultrasound Festival and November’s House Of Fun Weekender.

The full list of stage times has been confirmed for next weekend’s Leeds Festival.

The three-day event is held at Bramham Park from Friday 26th – Sunday 28th August. Friday will see Muse headline the main stage, whilst on Saturday My Chemical Romance take the top spot, and Sunday sees a joint headline position shared by The Strokes and Pulp.

The full stage times have been released for this weekend’s Reading Festival.

Taking place from this Friday (August 26th) to Sunday (August 28th) and will see headline performances from My Chemical Romance, The Strokes and Pulp, and Muse will close the festival. The festival has music kicking off from 11.00-11.30 each day.

Noah And The Whale’s Charlie Fink speaks out about Pukkelpop tragedy

Tragedy hit Pukkelpop yesterday (August 18th) when a stage collapsed killing 5 people. The festival has now been cancelled and Noah And The Whale’s Charlie Fink has spoken out of his experiences during the tragedy.

Speaking to the NME he commented, “We played at about half past two but were in our bus when it happened about five or six. The weather got mad, I’ve never seen anything like it, it was almost apocalyptic. It was pitch black like night but was only 5 o’clock.”

“He went on to add, The freakiest part was that it went dead silent and for a festival that isn’t something that usually happens. Then people were just running away. A tree had fallen in the backstage area and a branch had gone straight through one of the tents, it was madness.”

Noah And The Whale were uninjured by the incident and will continue their tour as planned.

The Chemical Brothers to close Big Chill Friday night

Big Chill Festival has now launched for another year, and the Chemical Brothers are currently gearing themselves up to headline the Friday night of the Festival tonight (August 5th).

The electronic supergroup will be sure to send the Big Chill crowd into euphoric madness with their collection of hits and gigantic light show.

Headlining tomorrow night will be Kanye West, while Rodrigo Y Gabriela are going to close the Festival on the Sunday night.

The Chemical Brothers will also be playing at this year’s Creamfields.

My Chemical Romance, The Strokes and Muse to headline Reading and Leeds Festival

My Chemical Romance will be headlining Reading on the Friday and Leeds on Saturday, with support from 30 Seconds To Mars, The Offspring, Deftones, Rise Against, Bring Me The Horizon, The Blackout and Architects.

The Strokes will top the bill at Reading on Saturday and Leeds on Sunday, along with performances from Pulp, The National, Jimmy Eat World, Madness, Two Door Cinema Club, Seasick Steve, The Pigeon Detectives and The Joy Formidable.

Muse will headline Reading on Sunday and Friday in Leeds, with support from Elbow, Interpol, Friendly Fires, Enter Shikari, The View, Frank Turner and We Are The Ocean.

Beady Eye, Janes Addiction, 2many DJ’s, White Lies, Crystal Castles, The Streets, Noah and the Whale, Bombay Bicycle Club and Death From Above 1979 have also all been confirmed to appear across the weekend.

Reading Festival will take place at Richfield Avenue from the 26th to 28th August, whilst Leeds Festival will take place at Bramham Park across the same weekend. Weekend tickets will be priced at around £190, whilst day tickets will be priced at £80.

Kasabian promise big V Festival performance

Kasabian have promised fans a big performance when they headline V Festival this weekend. The group will top a line-up that includes Faithless, The Kooks, Madness and Paolo Nutini at both Chelmsford and Shifnal and are said to be excited at the prospect of finishing their summer at the festival. Guitarist Sergio Pizzorno has told fans to expect a “rave” and “to try and make it the greatest night out anyone has had this year.”

There are still over 2,000 V Festival tickets on the market, with day and weekend tickets available for both locations. Both V Festival Chelmsford weekend tickets and V Festival Shifnal weekend tickets start trading at £195. The cheapest Chelmsford day tickets are priced at £89 whilst the cheapest Shifnal day tickets cost £100.

Other headliners, Kings Of Leon have confirmed that they will be performing material from their forthcoming album, Come Around Sundown.

Madness add matinée concerts to their Do Not Adjust Your Nut UK tour

Madness, the ska band fronted by Graham “Suggs” McPherson, announced a UK tour last month, but it has proved to be so popular with audiences that they have had to add five matinée dates to their schedule.

In addition to playing V Festival this summer, the band behind hit singles Baggy Trousers and House Of Fun – amongst a whole host of other great songs – will play twice in the same day in Glasgow, Newcastle, Leicester, Leeds and Birmingham.

Madness tickets for the evening performances are available now, while matinée gigs will go on sale tomorrow morning (Friday August 6th 2010) at 09:30. Support act for all shows will be former Beautiful South frontman Paul Heaton.

Jay-Z set for final UK performance of 2010 at T In The Park

Jay-Z will appear for the final time in the UK this year when he takes to the stage at T In The Park this weekend. The American rap superstar will perform before headline act Kasabian on Sunday 11th July.

Jay-Z stole the show at last weekend’s Wireless Festival at Hyde Park, as he brought the event to a close on Sunday night. The headline performance attracted an A-list crowd, including names such as Gwyneth Paltrow, Princess Beatrice, Sarah Harding, Amy Winehouse, Pixie Geldof, Sadie Frost, Lewis Hamilton, Jenson Button, and Joe McElderry. The rapper referred to London as his “second home” during the performance and treated the huge crowd to all of his recognised hits including Empire State Of Mind, 99 Problems, Can I Get A and Hard Knock Life.

T In The Park tickets are still available, despite the event set to get under-way in just a few days time. Prices for Sunday passes start at £114, granting the ticket holder access to see Jay-Z as well as Kasabian, Biffy Clyro, Dizzee Rascal, Madness, Groove Armada and David Guetta. After Beyoncé made a surprise cameo appearance on stage with husband Jay-Z at Coachella earlier this year, T In The Park ticket holders could be in for an unexpected treat. Beyoncé was welcomed on stage by her husband in order to perform a duet of Forever Young to delighted festival goers in California, and rumours are now circulating that the same thing could happen again.

Jay-Z is set to appear on the main stage at T In The Park on Sunday night, performing before headline act Kasabian. T In The Park is Scotland’s biggest festival and will this year play host to some of the most recognised names in music today, including Eminem, Muse, Stereophonics, Biffy Clyro, Faithless, The Black Eyed Peas, Prodigy and Madness.

T In The Park is twinned with Oxegen Festival in Ireland in 2010 – in much the same way that Reading and Leeds Festival are. That means that the Scottish festival will share many of the same phenomenal acts as its Irish partner – Muse, Eminem, Kasabian, Faithless, Stereophonics, Jay-Z, The Black Eyed Peas and The Prodigy to name but a few.

However, T In The Park also gets plenty acts that it can call its own. Madness, The Proclaimers, Skunk Anansie and The View are examples of groups that will only be playing at T.

Editors head the list of new names added to the T in the Park line-up this week, which also includes Frightened Rabbit and Delta Maid. The festival is only 21 days away and some of the biggest names in music have been confimed to play across the weekend.

Muse, Eminem and Kasabian will headline the event which runs from the 9th to 11th July. The Black Eyed Peas, The Prodigy, Madness, Calvin Harris, Jay-Z, Stereophonics and Faithless will also entertain the 85,000 strong crowd.

There are over 1,500 T in the Park tickets yet to be sold, with weekend ticket prices starting at £220. Day tickets can be bought for £125 with nearly 50 acts appearing on each day of the festival.

V Festival sells out in two hours

After tickets for this year’s V Festival went on sale this morning, it has been confirmed by organisers that the event has sold out in just two hours. This comes as no surprise to music fans, with the festival boasting what many think is it’s best line-up yet.

The dual festival, which runs from August 21-22 in Chelmsford and Staffordshire, is being headlined by The Kings of Leon and Kasabian, with acts such as Cheryl Cole, Paul Weller, Madness, Stereophonics, Calvin Harris, The Kooks, Florence and the Machine and The Prodigy also set to appear.

Friendly Fires set for performance at Camp Bestival

Friendly Fires have been announced as the headlining act of Sunday night at Camp Bestival 2010. Marc Almond, The Blockheads and Billy Bragg are also among the latest bands to have been confirmed for the festival which will take place at Lulworth Castle in Dorset from July 30th to August 1st.

Calvin Harris, Madness, and The Human League are also in line for performances on stage.

The Specials to reform in 2010?

Reports are suggesting that the 80s Ska outfit. The Specials, are set to reform for a massive 2010 tour.

Whilst the band reformed in 2008, The Specials were without Jerry Dammers who is the original band’s keyboard player. The Specials have confirmed that the 2010 reunion would include the keyboardist and would see the full band together for several years.

It has yet to be confirmed if the band will definitely reform, however, Suggs from Madness has hinted that The Specials reunion is likely to happen.

Madness to re-release debut album One Step Beyond

Madness is to re-release its 1979 debut album One Step Beyond, hoping to capture the imagination of a new breed of fans as they begin their UK tour in Bournemouth on 1 December.

The album originally peaked at Number Two in the UK Albums Chart, stayed in the Top 40 until the end of 1980 and began a run of hit singles and albums that continues right up to this year’s critically-acclaimed ‘The Liberty Of Norton Folgate’.

The re-release includes content that wouldn’t have been possible with LPs of old, such as videos of various singles, John Peel session recordings and a host of extra tracks.

Bonos latest rant has surprising target, himself

Bono has spoken out against the growth of online music piracy calling on overpaid rockstars to step up and fight for the little man.

The Irish star said he believed it was time someone stopped the “madness” that was affecting the development of new and future artists.

Bono’s latest rant was not directed at the usual enemy of illegal downloader’s, ISP’s or east African clay pigeon shooters but towards international rock and roll stars just like himself, commenting “it’s not the place for rich rock stars to ask for more money”.

Speaking to USA Today, Bono said: “People think people like me are overpaid and overnourished, and they’re not wrong. “What they’re missing is, how does a songwriter get paid? There’s no space for a Cole Porter in the modern age.

‘It’s not the place for rich rock stars to ask for more money, but somebody should fight for fellow artists, because this is madness. Music has become tap water, a utility, where for me it’s a sacred thing, so I’m a little offended.’

Fans are believed to have downloaded U2′s latest release ‘No Line On The Horizon’ at least 445,000 times before it was officially released last month. Despite leaking online, ‘No Line On the Horizon’ is currently at number one on both the UK and US charts.

U2 have recently revealed that they will be visiting the UK on their massive 2009 world tour. U2 make four stops on their forthcoming tour, calling at London Wembley Stadium (August 14), Glasgow Hampden Park (August 18), Don Valley Stadium, Shefffield (August 20) and Cardiff Millennium Stadium (August 22). Oasis to join Coldplay at Roskilde

Organisers behind the popular Roskilde Festival have recently announced that Oasis will headline this year’s festival. Oasis will join Coldplay as well as Madness and Slipknot at the hugely popular festival.

The Roskilde Festival takes place outside the Danish capital, Copenhagen, between July 2 and 5.

Oasis will also be playing live in the UK this summer. The Oasis tour kicks off with three shows at Heaton Park in Manchester (June 4, 6 &7). Oasis play seven further dates including performances at Sunderland Stadium of Light (June 10), Cardiff Millennium Stadium (June 12), Murrayfield Stadium in Glasgow (June 17) and Coventry’s Ricoh Arena (July 7). The Oasis tour comes to a close in London with four shows at Wembley Stadium (July 9, 11 & 12). Loads of Oasis tickets are still available from £40.

Fellow Roskilde headliners, Coldplay, are also on tour in the UK this year. Following their massively successful arena tour towards the end of 2008, Coldplay will be back on the road in the UK this September. Thousands of Coldplay tickets are still available for their 2009 stadium tour which features guest appearances from Girls Aloud and Jay-Z.
