New Site Allows Fans To Vote For An Artist’s Live Venue

In a similar mould to sites such as Kickstarter, the fan lead, artist funding website; Detourjam has sprouted up to offer a interactive service for the live music industry.

It is well known, now, that making money in the recorded music business has become notoriously difficult and sits upon a somewhat stale market currently, and that performing your music live is where artists are finding much of their revenue with large corporate sponsorship deals for some of the major artists out there such as Madonna.

In short, Detourjam’s system works by the performers giving the company their tour schedules and then the site offers fans the potential dates to different cities in a race to 100 pledges. The venue with the most pledges wins and details of the gig are announced.

It is still very early days for the internet startup, but things are looking promising for them. Their first race was for a gig by Ninja Tune artist Emika featuring a DJ sets from Micachu and Raisa K was won by London (suprise, suprise…); beating challenges from the likes of Bournemouth, Milton Keynes and York. The current race is for Holy Other, supported by Lapalux and the Haxan Cloak, and is being fought out between Brighton, Bristol, London and Leeds together.

Vampire Weekend to open this year’s Eden Sessions

Vampire Weekend have been confirmed as the opening act at this year’s Eden Sessions at The Eden Project in Cornwall. The popular US group played at the event two years ago and will return this summer on June 24th.

Vampire Weekend join previously announced headline acts Jack Johnson, Mika, Doves, Calvin Harris and Paolo Nutini.

Vampire Weekend tickets will go on sale on Tuesday 27th April, whilst Eden Sessions tickets for all other days of the event are already available.

Paolo Nutini to headline fifth Eden Session

Paolo Nutini has been confirmed as the headline act for the fifth Eden Session this summer, and the Scottish singer-songwriter joins Jack Johnson, Mika, Doves and Calvin Harris in playing the Cornwall venue. The Eden Sessions are a spectacular series of events that take place in the unique setting of Cornwall’s Eden Project, a collection of Biomes which includes the largest greenhouse in the world. Tickets for the gig, which will occur on July 13th 2010, go on sale on Tuesday March 23rd at 18:00, but tickets to the other Eden Sessions are available now!

V Festival lineup has finally been announced and it looks to be an extravaganza with fantastic live acts across the board. The festival at Weston Park near Birmingham will first be headlined by the brilliant Kasabian on August 21st 2010, and the next night Kings Of Leon will delight the crowd.

Mika’s UK tour in full swing

He may have just been booked to headline Serbia’s Exit Festival, but UK fans can see Mika in this country for his national tour is currently underway. Known for his flamboyant style and Freddie Mercury-esque vocals, the singer of Grace Kelly, Love Today, and We Are Golden is sure to put on quite a performance for his fans. Support for the gig will be provided by Erik Hassle, a rising star from Sweden who has been hotly tipped by many in the music press – in particular the Guardian.

Chemical Brothers to headline European festival

The Chemical Brothers are to headline this year’s EXIT festival in Serbia. The summer festival runs from July 8-11 in Novi Sad and will feature performances from hit electronic acts Royksopp, Crystal Castles and Josh Wink. Flamboyant singer-songwriter Mika is also set to play.

Back in the UK, Chemical Brothers are also set to headline four shows at London’s Roadhouse venue from May 20 to May 23. The Roadhouse gigs will be their first performances in nearly eighteen months and - given their history of pulsating live shows - they’re shaping up to be unmissable. Buble Confirms Royal Variety Performance

Ahead of next year’s UK tour, Michael Buble has confirmed that he will join Mika, Lady GaGa, Alexandra Burke and Bette Midler at the Royal Variety Performance to be held at Blackpool’s Opera House on December 7th.

The event will be hosted by Peter Kay and the Queen is expected to attend.

Michael Buble’s UK tour kicks off on 6th May 2010 in Sheffield and will close on 16th May at London’s O2 Arena.

More iTunes Festival acts confirmed

Brian Molko of Placebo will be at the London Roundhouse for the iTunes Festival on July 14

Four more acts have been added to the line-up for this year’s iTunes Festival.

The iTunes Festival, now in its third year, is taking place at the London Roundhouse throughout July.

The four new confirmed acts and dates for the iTunes Festival are:

Placebo (July 14)

Calvin Harris (July 18)

Bloc Party (July 20)

Mika (July 31)

Tickets are free but are only available to competition winners only.

Fans who cannot win tickets will be pleased to hear that tickets are still available for other live shows featuring the same artists as those announced for the iTunes Festival.

Placebo, whose album Battle for the Sun entered this week’s album chart at number eight, will be touring the UK this December.

The Placebo tour kicks off at the Birmingham LG Arena (December 8 ) before stopping off at the London O2 Arena (December 9), Manchester Central (December 12) and the Glasgow SECC & Clyde Auditorium (December 14).

Meanwhile, Calvin Harris recently revealed that he is going to write and record a song in Los Angeles in December with Katy Perry for her next album.

The Calvin Harris tour begins at the LCR of the University of East Anglia (October 15) and will also play at the Leeds O2 Academy (October 21), Manchester Academy (October 24) and Glasgow O2 Academy (November 4) plus many more.

Also with plans for new material are Bloc Party, who plan to release a brand new single called One More Chance in August, which does not appear on their most recent album Intimacy.

The Bloc Party tour, called Bloctober, starts at the Blackpool Empress Ballroom at Winter Gardens (October 2) and will stop off at many UK venues such as the Sheffield O2 Academy (October 10), Bristol O2 Academy (October 20), Brighton Centre and ending at the Bournemouth International Centre (October 31).
