Richard Hawley Announces Extensive UK Tour

This Autumn, Richard Hawley will be trekking the length and breadth of the UK to bring his unique style of indie-rock to the nation. The tour coincides with the release of his latest album, ‘Standing At The Sky’s Edge’, which is currently sitting pretty in the number 3 slot of the charts right now.

The support act for The Kooks throughout their upcoming UK tour has been confirmed. The band will begin the jaunt on 30th September, and will be joined by London band Tribes as they perform shows in cities across the UK leading to their show at Brixton Academy in London on 11th October.

Bombay Bicycle Club support act confirmed for UK tour

Bombay Bicycle Club have confirmed that their support act for their upcoming UK tour will be Dry The River. The band confirmed the news through their official Twitter page, following the release of their third album.

A Different Kind Of Fix was released last week, and entered the UK chart at number six, following on from the success of the band’s previous releases, I Had The Blues But I Shook Them Loose and Flaws.

Owl City gearing up for September UK tour

Owl City is to tour the UK this October, playing six shows across the country.

The solo project of Minnesota multi-instrumentalist Adam Young, Owl City is renowned for its electronica-synthpop sound. The UK tour follows the June release of his third studio album, All Things Bright And Beautiful. The shows will kick off on September 5th at Dublin’s O2 Academy, and conclude at Birmingham’s HMV Institute on September 13th.

Yuvraj India Test cricket career reaches crucial juncture

I first recall watching Yuvraj Singh in action when India toured England in 2002. When Yuvraj and Mohammad Kaif joined forces at the crease in the final of the Natwest Trophy, India needed another 180 runs at 7-an-over. Only the bravest or most fanatical of Indians would have bet upon the two young tyros to go on and win the game, but win it they did. Yuvraj was out before the end while Kaif remained unbeaten, but it was the patience, skill and then power of Yuvraj that fixed itself in the mind’s eye.

Kaif’s career has since stalled and subsided, but Yuvraj went on…to some extent. But how much can we say that he has improved by in the past nine years? For a long while he was the ‘anointed one’: destined to be the first to step into the test-match spikes vacated when one of the four batting giants retired. And so it transpired, in 2008 when Sourav Ganguly bowed out: the time had come for Yuvraj to shine on the test stage alongside the likes of Sachin Tendulkar, Rahul Dravid and VVS Laxman in the approaching twilight of their careers.

Two and a half years on from that moment and where does he stand? Playing again in the Indian middle order, but only due to the absence of Sehwag and Gambhir. He sits behind Suresh Raina, probably Cheteshwar Pujara and maybe soon Virat Kohli in the pecking order, especially now that the Indian injury hoodoo has struck to rule him out of the remainder of the series.

It was painful to watch both Yuvraj and Raina struggle so desperately against the short ball at Trent Bridge and both have received enough criticism for it. But if I had to pick which player is more likely to come away from the match and practice and persevere, accept the blows on the body with determination and return to conquer the demons, I would undoubtedly choose Raina. Five years younger than Yuvraj and already picked once to captain his country in the absence of the senior players, Raina shows more ability to shoulder responsibility and will to be the best he can be than Yuvraj does.

So what is it with Yuvraj? He’s clearly got a huge amount of talent and is very rewarding to watch in full flow, but three test centuries in 35 matches tells its own story. A mischievous person might suggest that Yuvraj is all to happy bashing out sixes on a national highway in Hyderabad (quote Harbhajan Singh), but when confronted with the challenge of a swinging ball and short pitched bowling, he just doesn’t fancy it.

My fear is that he’ll fancy it even less after having the index finger on his left hand broken by a Tim Bresnan bouncer. But even before that moment, and indeed right back to the start of the test match, Yuvraj’s body language was interesting to watch. His fielding was passable, but lacked the electricity and commitment that one might expect to have seen from a player trying to force his way back into the first XI. His first innings batting garnered results, but he was dropped early in an innings which was far from chanceless.

It’s true that every player is different, and Yuvraj is much closer to the insouciance of a Chris Gayle than the flinty-eyed focus of a Dravid or a Jonathan Trott, but can it really be the case that his obvious failures at the highest level do not irk him? He is undoubtedly a rich man due to his skills in the game’s shortest form, and he is at the moment secured of a place within India’s limited-overs sides, so why should he feel the need to focus all his will on regaining his test place?

To me, he need not go far to find out the answer: just ask Sachin. Or for that matter Dravid, Laxman or Sehwag. All four are famed and revered for their achievements in test matches, and two of them haven’t played the shorter forms of the international game for some time. The game will move on from them and their era, that’s for sure, but it’s still test cricket that gives the fullest and most challenging inspection of a batsman’s worth, both technically, mentally and physically. A Yusuf Pathan or a Kieron Pollard can belt any number of fifties and hundreds in the shorter forms of the game, but until they’ve compiled a few Dravidian test match centuries, they won’t be counted amongst the greats of the game.

And so here is my challenge to Yuvraj Singh: do you want to be remembered as a great batsman? Do you want to be recalled in the same breath as the likes of Tendulkar, or consigned to a footnote of cricket history? Do you want to bask in personal glory, or live, however rich, in complacency?

You can come back from this and succeed Yuvi. One sparkling innings of redemption…you just have to want it enough.

Shed Seven have announced two extra dates for their upcoming autumn tour.

Friendly Fires have surprised fans by covering Lady Gaga on Radio 1′s Live Lounge.

It has become traditional for bands visiting the Live Lounge to cover another artist’s material, and Friendly Fires played Lady Gaga’s hit The Edge Of Glory. They also played a live version of their new single, Hawaiian Air, on the Fearne Cotton show.

It has been announced today that Thin Lizzy will be back in town, excuse the pun, and have revealed a UK tour for early next year.

The Kooks unveil long-awaited new single

The Kooks have posted their comeback single online, the first from their upcoming album.

The Brighton band’s new single, Is It Me, is released on September 4th. The new album, Junk Of The Heart, will go on sale on September 12th. The album will be their first since 2008′s Konk, with the band changing bassist during this time, after founding member Max Rafferty left due to drug problems.

Death Cab For Cutie announce new single and start UK tour next week

Indie-rock band Death Cab For Cutie arrive in the UK next week for five live dates.

The gigs will be the first in the UK since 2008, and will showcase the band’s seventh album Codes and Keys, which was released at the end of May. The second single from the record, the title track, will be released on August 8th. Their UK dates begin with an appearance at the Hop Farm Festival on July 1st, followed by a show supporting Foo Fighters in Milton Keynes the next day. They will then play three headline shows in Manchester, Nottingham and London.

Enter Shikari reveal October UK tour plans

Enter Shikari are to play a series of shows across the country this October.

The Hertfordshire four-piece are to play sixteen dates, starting on October 5th at Norwich UEA. The post-hardcore rockers have recently recording their third studio album in Thailand, which follows the opinion-dividing 2009 album Common Dreads. The first single from the new album, Quelle Surprise, was released in May. Supporting Enter Shikari on their UK tour will be British punk five-piece Your Demise and American post-hardcore band letlive.

Before the UK dates, Enter Shikari will play a mainland European tour beginning on September 12th, and are set to appear on the Main Stage at Reading and Leeds festivals.

Foo Fighters to play shows in aid of New Zealand disaster

Foo Fighters have been confirmed to perform shows in aid of the victims of the recent New Zealand earthquake. Dave Grohl and his band will play a show in Auckland, New Zealand on 22nd March before heading to Brisbane, Australia to perform in the city’s Botanic Gardens on 27th March.

The money raised from the Auckland gig will go towards the Christchurch Earthquake Appeal, founded in the aftermath of last month’s disaster.

Foo Fighters tickets are currently available for the band’s two outdoor shows at Milton Keynes National Bowl, here in the UK this summer.

Liam Gallagher backtracks on Oasis claim

Beady Eye frontman Liam Gallagher has played down his own claim that former band Oasis will never reform.

After Beady Eye’s debut album, ‘Different Gear, Still Speeding’, was released yesterday, Gallagher told thequietus.com that he would not rule out an Oasis reunion, if it was done for the right reasons.

When asked if Oasis would reform in the future for money, Gallagher said: “I’m not going to say ‘never’, but at the moment no f****** chance.”

He added: “But it wouldn’t be for money, mate. I like to think that if we did get back together – which we f****** won’t – but if we did then it would be for the fans. It would be for the people and the music and not for f****** money.”

Gallagher went on to say that he believes his fued with brother Noel could come to an end soon, but at the moment they are both working on their own projects

Liam Gallagher attacks new Radiohead album

Beady Eye frontman Liam Gallagher has slammed Radiohead’s new Album, ‘The King of Limbs’, after being less than impressed with what he has heard.

The album name was inspired by a thousand year old tree in Wiltshire’s Savernake Forest, and the album itself contains songs with references to trees.

The former Oasis man told the Queitus, “I like to think that what we do, we do f*cking well. Them writing a song about a f*cking tree? Give me a f*cking break! A thousand year old tree? Go f*ck yourself!”

Gallagher then added: “You’d have thought he’d have written a song about a modern tree or one that was planted last week. You know what I mean?”

Liam Gallagher claims brother Noel has finished writing debut solo album

Beady Eye frontman Liam Gallagher has said that he expects his brother, Noel, has already written his solo album, and has been working on the project for some time.

On the eve of Beady Eye’s own debut album release, ‘Different Gear, Still Speeding’, Liam played down suggestions that Noel has been too busy to start creating his own album.

Beady Eye contains three former Oasis members in singer Liam Gallagher, guitarist Gem Archer, and Bass player Andy Bell. Oasis split after Noel left the group on August 28th 2009, signalling the end of one of the greatest acts of the last 20 years.

Owl City inspired by insomnia

Adam Young, the man behind Owl City and the chart-topper Fireflies, has recently revealed that it is his lack of sleep that gets his creative juices flowing. Young was clinically diagnosed with insomnia and copes with the condition by power-napping throughout the day, but it was his struggle to sleep that made him try to write a song – which became Fireflies.

Young didn’t realise then that what he had written would become so liked by so many, but perhaps now the insomnia is a little less of a burden and he may even appreciate the part it has played in his breakthrough.

X Factor twins Jedward are only twenty-four sales behind this week’s number one, Owl City’s ‘Fireflies’, according to the midweek charts. ‘Under Pressure (Ice Ice Baby),’ featuring American rapper Vanilla Ice, was released last Sunday and is a mash-up of ‘Under Pressure’ and the song it inspired, Vanilla Ice’s ‘Ice Ice Ice Baby.’

X Factor twins Jedward will be on the road with the X Factor Live Tour in just under two weeks, where they’ll be performing live on stage with X Factor winner Joe McElderry as well as all the other finalists. One of the great dates of the football season in England is Boxing Day.

The pick of the Barclays Premier League fixtures comes at Craven Cottage as Fulham host Tottenham in what promises to be fiercely-contested London derby.

Two good footballing teams will doubtless put on a thrilling encounter that almost guarantees a flood of goals. Harry Redknapp’s men will be ruing their home defeat to Wolves especially after blowing a 2-0 lead at Everton the previous weekend and will be searchning for three points.

Fulham though are formidable at home and this season have only been beaten there by Chelsea and Arsenal. With Roy Hodgson seeing his injury list slowly beginning to shorten this match should be extremely open.

Serie A still the place for great football

The 2009/10 Serie A season is hotting up nicely with most of the usual suspects rising to the top of the table.

Jose Mourinho’s Inter Milan are going for their fifth consecutive scudetto and currently sit top of the tree in Italy. City rivals AC Milan have recovered from a dreadful start to the season to sit in third place in the table but will take a lot of heart from their 3-2 win in the Bernabeu against Real Madrid in their UEFA Champions League group match.

Juventus appointed their former defender Ciro Ferrara to the manager’s hot-seat following the dismissal of Claudio Ranieri and the rookie has surpassed expectation by sitting in a creditable second position with almost a third of the season gone.

Sampdoria made a flying start but their challenge has wilted of late while Fiorentina are chugging along nicely with their potent strikeforce of Adrian Mutu and Alberto Gilardino causing headaches for opposing defences.

The teams from the capital are both struggling though AS Roma are slowly climbing the table following the arrival of local man Ranieri. Lazio, however, are still looking down rather than up as they sit precariously above the relegation zone.

Simon Neil with band Biffy Clyro will be touring the UK this Autumn

Biffy Clyro have announced details of their forthcoming UK tour.

Biffy Clyro are currently recording their fifth studio album in Los Angeles with producer Garth Richardson.

Garth Richardson also worked with Biffy Clyro on their last album titled Puzzle, which was released in June 2007.

Fans of Biffy Clyro can expect the new album to be released in September 2009, with songs from the new album expected to feature heavily on the tour that follows.

The Biffy Clyro tour comes to the UK on November 1 at the Dundee Caird Hall followed by two shows at the Glasgow Barrowland (November 2 & 3).

Biffy Clyro will also play at the Nottingham Rock City (November 8), Birmingham O2 Academy (November 9) and the London Brixton O2 Academy (November 12) before bringing the tour to a close at the Southampton Guildhall (November 16).

Biffy Clyro tickets to these new dates will go on general sale on Friday June 19 at 9am.

Doves miss out on No.1 by 10 copies!

Lady GaGa has held off Doves‘ bid for the Number One spot in the UK album by less than ten copies it has been reported.

The Manchester trio went in at Number Two with Kingdom Of Rust’, their first album in four years, while the US singer stayed at the top for a second week running with her debut album ‘The Fame’. Doves previously scored two Number One albums with ‘Some Cities’ and their 2002 LP ‘The Last Broadcast’.

Elsewhere in the UK album charts this week Kings Of Leon slipped to Number Three with ‘Only By The Night’ while Bat For Lashes went in at Number Five with ‘Two Suns’ and Yeah Yeah Yeahs were in at nine with their third album ‘It’s Blitz.

It has recently been confirmed that Doves will perform at this year’s Glastonbury Festival. Doves have been asked to top the bill on the John Peel stage.

The Doves tour comes to a close on May 5 at Nottingham Rock City. Doves tickets are available to compare from £18.

Fellow Glastonbury headliners, Bruce Springsteen and Blur, will also be performing live in the UK this year.

Bruce Springsteen is lined up to headline the 2009 Hard Rock Calling festival at Hyde Park on the same weekend as Glastonbury (June 26 – 28). Tickets to see Bruce Springsteen in concert at the Hard Rock Calling event are available from £67.50.

Blur have also confirmed that they will be performing at Hyde Park this summer. Blur are set to play two shows on July 2 & 3 at Hyde Park and hundreds of tickets are still available. Before heading to Hyde Park, Blur are set to play the Manchester Evening News Arena on June 26. Blur tickets are available from £45.

V Festival Chelmsford Tickets sell out in under two hours

Tickets for the V Festival’s Chelmsford site have sold out in less than two hours this morning according to the events organisers.

Meanwhile the final few tickets available for the Weston Park site of the two site two day festival are quickly diminishing after they went on sale at 10am this morning (March 6).

The V festival promises to be one of the standout summer festivals in this years UK live music calendar. Britpop legends Oasis and las vegas rockers The Killers are already confirmed to be headlining each night of the event. They shall be joined by the likes of Razorlight, Snow Patrol, Fatboy Slim, Keane, The Specials, Elbow, James, Lily Allen, The Enemy, Pendulum, The Script, Biffy Clyro, The Ting Tings, Paolo Nutini, MGMT, Katy Perry, The Wombats, James Morrison, Peter Doherty, The Streets, Lady GaGa, Dizzee Rascal, Happy Mondays, Seasick Steve, Ocean Colour Scene The Saturdays, British Sea Power, Taylor Swift, Alesha Dixon.

The Killers will be continuning their currrent tour tommorow night at the Newcastle Metro Radio Arena (March 7). The Killers tour comes to a close with two back to back shows at the Manchester Evening News Arena (March 9 & 10). Killers tickets are currently available.

Oasis will also be playing live in the UK this summer. The Oasis tour kicks off with three shows at Heaton Park in Manchester (June 4, 6 &7). Oasis play seven further dates including performances at Sunderland Stadium of Light (June 10), Cardiff Millennium Stadium (June 12), Murrayfield Stadium in Glasgow (June 17) and Coventry’s Ricoh Arena (July 7). The Oasis tour comes to a close in London with four shows at Wembley Stadium (July 9, 11 & 12). Loads of Oasis tickets are still available.

Razorlight have recently announced a tour beginning in Glasgow King Tuts (May 2), Buxton Opera House (May 4), Leamington Spa The Assembly (May 5), London O2 Arena (May 7) and also Manchester MEN Arena (May 9). Razorlight tickets are available.

V Festival snag Oasis and Killers as headline acts

It has been confirmed that Oasis and The Killers will headline this years V Festival, which will take place across two sites, one in Chelmsford and one in Staffordshire on August 22 and August 23.

Oasis will be adding this V festival performance to their already extensive world tour which will see them return to the UK later this year including some epic shows at the City of Manchester stadium and Wembley.

Meanwhile The killers will be adding the V festival to a series of other summer festival headline appearances at Oxegen and T in the park. This follows a February and March UK tour for the busy and increasing popular American group.

Doves confirm UK tour

The Doves have recently confirmed the details for the forthcoming 2009 Dove tour. The Doves mbark on the huge seventeen date tour this April. The Doves tour kicks off at the Cambridge Corn Exchange (April 15) before calling at Brighton Dome (April 16), Glasgow Barrowland (April 22), Manchester O2 Academy (April 26) and London Brixton Academy (May 1). The Doves tour comes to a close at Bristol O2 Academy (May 7).

It has been confirmed that Razorlight, Pete Doherty, Elbow, Yeah Yeah Yeahs, Pendulum and White Lies have been added to the line-up for this year’s T In The Park.

These acts will join the likes of Kings Of Leon, Katie Perry, Blur and Snow Patrol, who have previously been confirmed as headliners of the the hugely popular Scotish festival which is due to take place in Kinross between July 10 & 12. Pete Doherty follows in Oscar Wildes footsteps

It has been announced that Pete Doherty is set to give a lecture at Trinity College in Dublin tomorrow Friday (February 4).

The singer will be the guest of The University Philosophical Society (‘The Phil’) following in the footsteps of past speakers including Oscar Wilde, Bram Stoker, Helen Mirren, Al Pacino and John McCain.

Pete is currently on a promotional tour to support his eagerly anticipated debut solo album ‘Grace/Wastelands’ released March 16 and his subsequent nationwide solo tour.

The twelve date Pete Doherty tour kicks off at Cardiff University on March 13 and concludes at the Edinburgh Picture House on March 27.
