Q Awards 2011 nominations revealed

The nominations for this year’s Q Awards have been revealed, with acts such as Arctic Monkeys and Jessie J securing multiple nominations. The winners will be named on October 24th at The Grosvenor House Hotel in London.

British singer Adele leads the way with three nominations in total, including Best Female Artists. The news comes as the September Adele tour resumed this week, following the singer’s illness.

Noel Gallagher rumoured as T in the Park guest performer

First Radiohead then Pulp and now it may be ex Oasis star Noel Gallagher’s turn to play a surprise set at this summer of festivals.

The internet is currently a web of rumours and tweets which all suggest that Noel will play a surprise acoustic performance at this weekend’s T in the Park. Noel is fresh out of a press conference today (July 6th) in which he announced details of the release of High Flying Birds. Certain sites hoped that the press conference would also reveal plans to play the upcoming Scottish festival but he did not confirm this today.

That being said, it seems as though bands these days, especially of the older generation, are not shying away from guest festival appearances. It is also clear that Noel has a love for T in the Park. The Oasis gig there in 1994 is reported to be one of Noel’s favourite ever Oasis gigs and he has played a surprise performance there before in 2008 when he came on stage with Paul Weller.

At the moment his appearance at T in the Park is very much just internet based conjecture, but fans still remain hopeful that Noel will play.

Kings of Leon honour Ryan Dunn at London show

International giants Kings of Leon honoured Jackass star Ryan Dunn during the first of their two headline shows in London’s Hyde Park.

The band asked the audience to raise their glasses to Dunn, with frontman Caleb Followill asking the audience to toast “a friend of ours who’s passed away. This is for Ryan.” The band then played the hit Use Somebody. Dunn died when he crashed his Porsche, travelling 130mph in a 55mph zone.

Kings of Leon play the second of their two Hyde Park shows tonight, featuring support from Paul Weller and White Lies. The band then head to Edinburgh for a single show on Sunday, before moving to the US to play two concerts there.

Kings of Leon ready for Hyde Park shows

International superstars Kings of Leon descend on Hyde Park this week to play two huge gigs sure to impress.

The Tennessee four-piece, of three brothers and a cousin, are playing two shows in London this Wednesday (June 22nd) and Thursday (June 23rd). The gigs will feature support from former The Jam frontman Paul Weller, White Lies, Zac Brown Band and The Walkmen. The band are touring following the release of fifth album Come Around Sundown, playing only a handful of UK dates. With crowd favourites such as Use Somebody and Sex On Fire, as well as the world-class support acts, these shows are sure to be special. The band play a final UK date in Edinburgh on Sunday (26th June).

Paul Weller Designs Liam Gallagher Clothing

Paul Weller has designed a collection for Liam Gallagher’s clothing label ‘Pretty Green’ available to buy from the 23rd of June.

Liam Gallagher (of Beady Eye) named his clothing range after one of Weller’s earlier songs with band ‘The Jam’. Weller will sell six items, his trademark long sleeved shirts, scarves and leather jackets. He will also design a bigger winter collection. Weller is excited about the venture ” I’ve wanted to design my own range for some time and Pretty Green felt like a good home for my clothes. My main design reference is somewhere between 1968 and 1970. The clothing themselves sit between being smart and casual with quality materials and tailoring”

Kings of Leon accept Glee creator’s apology

Kings Of Leon have accepted Glee creator Ryan Murphy’s apology after he slammed the band for refusing to appear on his show.

Murphy launched a tirade against the Nashville band in January when they turned down a request from Glee to licence their hit ‘Use Somebody’.

He issued an apology earlier this month, saying he had not spoken “with as much clarity as I would have liked” and that he respected Kings of Leon’s stance.

Last week the band said that it was a ‘wonderful feeling’ that a line had now been drawn under the issue. They also play a string of dates from the end of May to the end of June in the U.K, including the Isle of Wight Festival and a gig supported by Paul Weller in Hyde Park.

Paul Weller’s new album finished

Rock God Paul Weller revealed that his new album is all ready to go.

Having started writing and recording in November, with Noel Gallagher rumoured to have been playing drums on one track, Weller told XFM in an interview backstage at the Japan Disaster Benefit that his new album is ready for a release.

“The album is all ready to go. Maybe this year, hopefully,” Weller said.

Weller also enthused about stretching himself on this effort. “It seems to be taking its own character this time. Sonically it’s still pushing things, but still with good melodies, and lyrically I’m trying to stretch myself. I’ve tried to make the words more impressionistic, tried to write in different ways.

“As much as I’m going to change the music, I want to be able to change the way I write words as well.”

His last two albums have been critically acclaimed by both fans and critics alike and Weller’s finger is firmly on the pulse. Weller’s only live dates this year are support slots for the Kings of Leon.

Kings Of Leon documentary to be released

A trailer for the upcoming Kings Of Leon documentary has been released. The film, directed by Stephen C. Mitchell, follows the US rock band from their origins to the present day.

It is due to debut at the Tribeca Film Festival later this month, although an official release date is yet to be set.

Kings Of Leon will return to the UK this summer for a series of outdoor stadium shows, including two performances at London’s Hyde Park, where they will be supported by Paul Weller.

Beady Eye, Primal Scream, Paul Weller and more raised over £150,000 at last night’s charity show at Brixton Academy in London. The gig took place in aid of the recent Japan disaster, with all proceeds from the show going to the British Red Cross appeal for victims of the tragedy.

The Coral, Kelly Jones, Graham Coxon and Richard Ashcroft also performed at the star-studded event.

Beady Eye will now go on to perform their first ever full UK tour, after impressing the crown with a number of songs from their debut album, Different Gear, Still Speeding. Beady Eye tickets are now on sale for shows running throughout April.

Kelly Jones added to Japan Disaster Benefit bill

Kelly Jones is the latest name to be added to an already impressive bill for the Japan Disaster Benefit fundraiser at Brixton Academy.

Richard Ashcroft, Paul Weller, Graham Coxon, Primal Scream (with the Sex Pistols’ Glen Matlock), The Coral and Beady Eye were already confirmed for the event.

The show was hastily arranged after the earthquake and tsunami that caused devastation in Japan. Beady Eye’s Liam Gallagher, whose idea it was for the concert, said “We’ve always had close ties with Japan and great affection for our fans out there. We’ve been saddened by the horrific TV images of the disaster. Our hope is that this benefit concert can help the people of Japan.”

Promoters slam Japan Disaster Benefit ticket touts

Live music promoters SJM have criticised those reselling tickets for an upcoming Japan tsunami benefit gig.

Primal Scream, Beady Eye, Graham Coxon, Richard Ashcroft, Paul Weller and The Coral have been confirmed for the mammoth gig on April the 3rd at London’s Brixton Academy.

All proceeds from officially-purchased tickets are being donated to the British Red Cross Japan Tsunami Appeal. Beady Eye’s Liam Gallagher and Gem Archer came up with the idea for the gig when hearing the news of the disaster, with both men wanting to give something to a country where they have a loyal fanbase.

According to BBC Newsbeat, a statement from SJM read: “We strongly disapprove of profiteering from the misery and suffering of the people in Japan. It is very disappointing that one secondary reseller and eBay continue to offer these charity fundraiser tickets.”

They called the touting of tickets “highly distasteful” and added that they had asked resellers to “delist the event”.

Rival promoter Live Nation is rumoured to be in talks with Sony and Universal to arrange a second London gig to help the victims of the tsunami.

Beady Eye indebted to Japan

The ‘Bring The Light’ band decided to organise the event in London – which will include performances from Primal Scream, Paul Weller and Richard Ashcroft – because they have always been treated with respect in Japan both as members of Oasis and with their latest group.

Speaking ahead of another charity show, for Teenage Cancer Trust at the Royal Albert Hall, last Friday, guitarist Gem Archer said: “There’s a real long relationship. I mean, some of these Japanese fans are old friends now, let alone the people in the record companies and whoever else we’ve met. So then this idea came up of, ‘Why don’t we just get something together and then give all the money to the Red Cross. ”

Archer, who joined Oasis in 2000, was one of four members of Oasis that formed Beady Eye immediately after the bands’ break-up, said the band are due to continue their tour in Japan. “We are meant to be going, I think, in about three weeks, four weeks, and those shows all sold out in the blink of an eye. It’s a small club tour, but they were like bang on it, and they stuck our album at number one.”

The earthquake charity concert will take place at London’s 02 Academy in Brixton on April 3 with all proceeds going to the British Red Cross Japan Tsunami Appeal.

Kings of Leon reschedule 02 Arena date again

The gig was moved to June 29th from December 21st, after the band’s tour bus set on fire. It has now been shifted forward to June 1st. No reason was given for the second date change.

Frontman Caleb Followill said: “We’re really sorry about the date change and the band would like to personally apologise for the inconvenience caused. Thanks for your understanding and patience with this. We’re looking forward to seeing you on June 1st and hope it’s going to be a great night for everybody”.

The band also announced earlier this year that they will be postponing some of their overseas dates until later in the year to allow drummer Nathan Followill time to recover from surgery on his arm.

Paul Weller was recently announced as support for the UK gigs. All original tickets will still be valid for the new show.

Primal Scream to play with Pistols’ Glen Matlock for Japan Benefit

Primal Scream are set for a rock’n'roll first when they play the Japan Benefit Gig with former Sex Pistols bass player Glen Matlock. Matlock, famously kicked out of the Pistols for liking The Beatles, replaces Scream bass player Mani, who has prior commitments.

In a statement the band said “We are humbled to play the Japan Disaster Benefit. As Mani is unable to attend due to prior family commitments, we are pleased to announce we will be joined for one night only by Sex Pistols legend Glen Matlock”.

Richard Ashcroft, Graham Coxon, The Coral and Paul Weller are also joining Primal Scream and Beady Eye for the April 3rd bash.

And Weller is enthused to be playing the show designed to raise cash for the Tsunami relief fund, saying “I really wanted to do something to show solidarity and sympathy with the Japanese people. Japan is a place I’ve been to many times in the last 30 years. I’ve made many friends there and have been treated very well. They are a kind race. My heart goes out to them. The line-up is great for the show and it’s gonna be a brilliant night”.

Beady Eye and Paul Weller confirmed for Japan benefit gig

Beady Eye and Paul Weller have been confirmed for a benefit show to help those affected by the recent earthquake and tsunami in Japan. They are joined by Primal Scream, Graham Coxon, The Coral and Richard Ashcroft in what looks like a Brit-Rock extravaganza.

A message on Beady Eye’s official website reads: “Beady Eye – who still have fond memories of their concert in Sendai with Oasis in 2002 – are delighted their idea for a benefit gig has come together so quickly and with such fantastic support”.

During a show in Paris last week, the group’s frontman Liam Gallagher dedicated the song ‘Kill For A Dream’ to the victims of the natural disaster in Japan. He also apologised for Oasis’ no show on the night the band split – they were due to play Paris before Noel immediately left the band.

Tickets go on sale this Friday, March 25 at 9am and all proceeds will be donated to the British Red Cross Japan Tsunami Appeal. The show takes place on April 3 at London’s O2 Academy Brixton.

Paul Weller reveals new album details and 2012 UK tour plans

The ‘Modfather’ Paul Weller has wasted no time in getting back into the studio, revealing that his latest album, the follow-up to 2010′s Waking Up The Nation should be completed by March and ready for release sometime around August or September.

Paul Weller has confirmed two rescheduled shows for February 2011. The former Jam front-man will perform at Aberdeen AECC on 3rd February and Newcastle Metro Radio Arena on 4th February.

V Festival tickets available as both sites prepare to open gates

There are still a limited number of V Festival tickets available on the secondary ticket market. The festival sites in Chelmsford and Shifnal will open to music fans tomorrow, and today could be the last chance to buy weekend and day tickets.

The festival will be headlined by Kasabian and Kings of Leon, with both bands recently promising big performances. The Prodigy, David Guetta, Stereophonics, Paul Weller, Editors, Faithless and The Kooks are just some of the many huge names also set to appear across the weekend.

Both V Festival Chelmsford weekend tickets and V Festival Shifnal weekend tickets start trading at £187. The cheapest Chelmsford day tickets are priced at £90 whilst the cheapest Shifnal day tickets cost £100. In total, there are just over 650 V Festival tickets still on the market.

Kings Of Leon have announced that they are to preview tracks from their forthcoming album, Come Around Sundown, when they headline V Festival in both Chelmsford and Shifnal later this month. The record has been eagerly anticipated by fans ever since the success of Only By The Night, which contained singles such as Sex On Fire and Use Somebody.

The band will headline the festival along with Kasabian, with other acts such as Stereophonics, Paul Weller, The Kooks, Faithless, David Guetta, The Prodigy, Calvin Harris, Paolo Nutini and Editors also confirmed to appear across the weekend.

Extra V Festival day tickets are now available from primary ticketing websites such as Seetickets for around £78 each. This year’s V Festival in Chelmsford and Shifnal will be headlined by Kasabian and Kings of Leon and will take place on the 21st and 22nd August.

Paul Weller is set to tour the UK once again this November, showcasing material from his Mercury Music Prize nominated album, Wake Up The Nation. Weller recently played to a number of sell-out crowds during a five-night residency at London’s Royal Albert Hall, and it his thought that the addition of his album to the award short-list is somewhat of a surprise.

Paul Weller’s upcoming tour will begin at Brighton Centre on Tuesday 23rd November, and will draw to a close at Wembley Arena on Friday 10th December.

Biffy Clyro are set to tour the UK in November and December, having just being nominated for this year’s Mercury Music Prize. The band are in the running for the prestigious prize for their latest album Only Revolutions, and are now set to battle it out against the likes of Paul Weller, Dizzee Rascal, Laura Marling and Mumford & Sons.

The other nominees are Villagers, I Am Kloot, The XX, Foals, Kit Downes Trio, Corinne Bailey Rae and Wild Beasts. The winner will be announced in September with current favourites being Wild Beasts and The XX.

Biffy Clyro tickets are available for their upcoming UK arena tour, with prices starting at £20. The Island Life shows will begin with Sly And Robbie, The Compass Point Allstars (May 26), continuing with The Fratellis, Bombay Bicycle Club (May 27), Cat Stevens and friends, Baaba Maal (May 28), Paul Weller, Ernest Ranglin, Spooky Tooth (May 29), Keane, Tom Tom Club, Ladyhawke (May 30), Amy Winehouse, Toots And The Maytals, I Blame Coco (May 31).

Fans will have more opportunities to see some of the Island Record artist’s they set out on tour throughout 2009.

Paul Weller has recently confirmed that he will play a series of outdoor shows this summer in the UK as part of the Forestry Commission Live Music 2009 Tour. The Paul Weller tour will kick of June 5 at Thetford Forest in Suffolk and include visits to Nottingham’s Sherwood Pines Forest Park (June 19) and the Westonbrit Arboretum (June 20), Gloucestershire. The final Paul Weller concert will take place at the Yorkshire Dalby Forest (June 27). Tickets are still available for Paul Weller’s summer shows at prices beginning at £33.

The Bombay Bicycle Club will be making appearances at London’d Borderline Club (March 23), Kings Colege London (April 13), Manchester Academy (April 15), ABC 2 Glasgow (April 16), Newcastle University (April 17), The Rainbow Birmingham (April 18) and Audio Brighton (April 19). The Paul Weller gig will take place in the world famous Times Square at the Nokia Centre venue (April 24). The show will be Wellers’s third US show this year and will follow a San Francisco appearance (April 17) and landmark performance at this years Coachella festival.

Paul Weller is also on tour in the UK this coming march. Paul Weller will play four dates kicking things off at the Civic Hall Wolverhampton on March 17. The Paul Weller tour also stops at the Oasis Leisure Centre in Swindon (March 18) and Plymouth Pavilions (March 19). The tour comes to a close with a massive Paul Weller concert at London’s O2 Arena on March 21. Hundreds of tickets to see Paul Weller are still available with prices starting at £37.50.

Duffy scores Brit Awards hat-trick

Duffy stole the show at last night’s Brit Awards, taking home the awards for Best Album, Best Solo Female Artist and Best Breakthrough Act. Other winners included Kings of Leon who took home the awards for Best International Album and Best International Group, Elbow won the Best Group award, Katy Perry was named Best International Female and Iron Maiden took home the award for Best Live Act. As many had expected, Paul Weller picked up the Best Male Solo Artist award. Pet Shop Boys picked up the Outstanding Contribution to Music award and Florence and the Machine won the Critics’ Choice award.

The 2009 Brit Awards took place at London Earl’s Court last night and featured live performances from the likes of Kylie Minogue, Coldplay, Take That and Kings of Leon.

A number of last night’s winners are on tour this year and tickets are selling fast. Katy Perry, Elbow, Kings of Leon and Paul Weller will be touring the UK in 2009. Elbow kick off their tour at Brighton Dome on February 28. Elbow tickets are available from £52. The Paul Weller tour kicks off on March 17 and Paul Weller tickets are available from £49.50. Kings of Leon play a series of massive shows at the London O2 Arena and the Manchester Evening News Arena in June. Kings of Leon tickets are available from £85.

Coldplay, who failed to pick up any Brit Awards, embark on their 2009 stadium tour in September. The Coldplay tour kicks off at Lancashire County Cricket Ground in Manchester on September 12 and draws to a close in London at Wembley Stadium on September 19.
