This year’s Reading and Leeds Festivals are almost underway and today, (24th August) is your last chance to get your hands on tickets for what is sure to be a weekend of amazing live music on both sites.

Headlining this year’s Reading Festival are The Strokes, Muse and My Chemical Romance however there are a host of other great acts also performing. Pete Doherty will headline the Festival Republic Stage on the Friday night at Leeds and the Sunday night at Reading. Whilst on the Radio 1/NME Stage The Streets will be playing their last ever shows at Leeds on the Friday night and Reading on the Sunday night.

The full list of stage times has been confirmed for next weekend’s Leeds Festival.

The three-day event is held at Bramham Park from Friday 26th – Sunday 28th August. Friday will see Muse headline the main stage, whilst on Saturday My Chemical Romance take the top spot, and Sunday sees a joint headline position shared by The Strokes and Pulp.

The full stage times have been released for this weekend’s Reading Festival.

Taking place from this Friday (August 26th) to Sunday (August 28th) and will see headline performances from My Chemical Romance, The Strokes and Pulp, and Muse will close the festival. The festival has music kicking off from 11.00-11.30 each day.

Libertines set for reform and 2011 UK tour

Reports are strongly suggesting that the Libertines are reforming and will tour the UK later this year.

The pioneering indie band, who have twice split up over disputes between frontmen Carl Barat and Pete Doherty, are said to be planning a 2011 UK tour. This will then be followed by an early 2012 European tour, and a number of festivals in the summer.

The news came from a source in yesterday’s Sunday Mirror, which said: “Pete and Carl really enjoyed reforming the band last year for the Reading and Leeds festivals. Now Pete’s out of prison and trying to stay clean, getting the band back together is his main priority. Fortunately Carl is open to the idea of touring and getting back to what they were famous for. So long as Pete is relatively on the straight and narrow, the world is their oyster.”

The Libertines tour dates 2011 should be revealed soon.

Pete Doherty admits he is finding life hard after Amy Winehouse’s death

In a recent interview with the People, Pete Doherty admitted that he is finding life a real struggle following the death of fellow London musician Amy Winehouse.

He commented, “I’m struggling with f***ing everything because I’m so bewildered about what happened to Amy. I was in bed when I heard the news of her death. Someone had to wake me up to tell me. I couldn’t take it in and still can’t. Coming to terms with what has happened is almost impossible. It’s hard to think she’s not with us anymore.”

The news of his current troubles comes following the six months in prison which he served for possession of cocaine. The shock which Doherty is facing, following Winehouse’s death, may also be a personal warning of the dangers of heavy drug use to Doherty. Pete Doherty will however be playing several shows this Summer including Reading and Leeds Festivals.

Pete Doherty may record solo record with Carla Bruni

If it happens it will perhaps be the most unlikely partnership the world of music has ever seen, but it has been reported today that Pete Doherty may be recording a record with wife of Nicolas Sarkozy, Carla Bruni.

The Sunday Mirror today has reported that Carla Bruni has written to the former Libertines front man Pete Doherty about making an album together.

Doherty is set to play several shows in France this Summer and speculation has arisen that he will meet up with the French first lady during this tour.

Doherty is also playing this year’s Reading and Leeds Festivals along with the likes of the National, Muse and Pulp.

Pete Doherty reveals rescheduled dates for May tour

The rescheduled shows of Pete Doherty’s postponed May tour have been announced.

The former Libertines frontman delayed the tour due to his time spent in prison, and the Irish dates have now been rescheduled. The show at Dublin’s The Academy will now take place on September 14th, the show at Derry’s The Nerve Centre will be on September 15th, and the show at Belfast’s Mandela Hall will take place on September 16th.

Original tickets are still valid for the shows, and a limited number of extra tickets will go on sale this Friday (July 22nd). The singer will also perform a series of UK shows in September.

Pete Doherty to play gig this week after prison release

Pete Doherty is to play a small matinee gig this week, following his release from prison today.

The singer will perform on Saturday July 9th at the Blues Kitchen in Camden – to be his first gig since leaving jail. He was today released early, after going to prison for possession of cocaine. The show will act as a preview for fans ahead of his Reading and Leeds Festival appearances and September UK tour.

Pete Doherty released from prison early

Pete Doherty has been released from prison with three months of his sentence still to go.

The singer was sentenced to six months in jail in May for possession of cocaine. At the time, the judge, David Radford, said that Doherty had an “appalling record” in court. A message appeared on website Albion Rooms, saying: “On this bright sunny morning Peter was released from prison and thanks everyone for their valued support whilst inside.”

Doherty has been a solo artist since 2006, and has since gained critical acclaim for his thoughtful, striking performances. Doherty will be playing a series of UK shows in September.

Brother, Tom Vek and Anna Calvi join The Horrors at Reading Festival

The bands have been added to the line up for the Reading and Leeds Festival in August.

They will perform on the Festival Republic stage which is headlined by the Horrors, The Midnight Beast and Pete Doherty.

Tom Vek released his new album ‘Leisure Seizure’ last week and Brother recently announced a September UK Tour. The Horrors also confirmed a UK tour for October and Pete Doherty is currently in jail with his fingers crossed he’ll be out in time for the gigs.

Pete Doherty fails to attend premiere of Libertines film

Pete Doherty failed to attend the premiere of The Libertines’ new documentary film last night, seemingly putting to and end the rumours that the band could reform.

Carl Barat, John Hassall and Gary Powell were all present at the London Troxy for the first showing of There Are No Innocent Bystanders premiere.

Barat, who has a difficult relationship with Doherty, said last night the band had no plans to continue ‘as it stands’ and stated, ‘It’s the end of a chapter for sure for me. Tonight a curtain is falling on something.’
The Pete Doherty UK tour is due to begin at the beginning of May.

Oxegen adds Slash and Manics to the bill

Slash, Manic Street Preachers and Glasvegas are amongst the latest acts announced for Oxegen 2011.

The Punchestown racecourse event is held in the middle of July and also includes Arctic Monkeys, Coldplay and Black Eyed Peas this year.

Oxegen has also announced OFWGKTA, Metronomy, The Saturdays,Peter Doherty, The Pretty Reckless, Professor Green, Ke$ha, Eliza Doolittle, Example, and Cherri Bomb.

Festival Director John Probyn said, “We think today’s announcement offers something really special for all our fans. Whatever your taste in music, be it pop, rock, hip-hop or RnB, Oxegen delivers. It’s that eclecticism and quality that make it such a vibrant and exciting festival. Personally, I’m really looking forward to seeing Slash play – the man is genuine rock royalty!”

Slash recently announced that he will be playing a gig in his hometown of Stoke-on-Trent later this year.

Carl Barat claims The Libertines will not play summer shows

Carl Barat has stated that despite rumours, The Libertines will not perform any live shows this summer. Barat said they had no plans in place because he and Pete Doherty had yet to write any new material.

“Truly moving as it was to play Reading, Leeds and the Forum it would not be right to do this every year without new material as I’m sure most would agree,” he said.

“You never know though, some day I hope we’ll write the next album.”

Pete Doherty identified in German burglary

Pete Doherty is reportedly under investigation for breaking into a record shop in Germany, an incident which occurred in the early hours of Tuesday morning.

The Libertines singer, who is currently shooting a film in the Bavarian city of Regensburg, the town where the crime took place, was allegedly identified by an eyewitness to the burglary. A spokesperson for Doherty has refused to comment on the situation.

The Pete Doherty UK tour is due to get underway in May, and it is not yet known whether the singer’s live shows will be affected by the recent incident in Germany.

Pete Doherty’s big 2011 come back tour

The Libertines and Babyshambles frontman, Pete Doherty will be returning as a solo artist this May for 18 gigs around the UK and Ireland. After an absence of two years, Doherty will reconvene his solo career starting in Lemington Spa, the 3rd of May. New material has yet to be confirmed but it is more than likely that the prolific song writer will have an album out at some point this year.

Pete Doherty will be returning to the road this May to perform solo material,tickets go on sale at 9 AM tomorrow (28/1/2011). The babyshambles lead singer who reunited with former band mate Carl Barat to reform The Libertines August last year will be playing an 18 date tour around the UK this year. The tour kicks off in Lemington Spa on the 3rd of May and will finish on the 29th of May at Mandela Hall in Belfast. Doherty failed to attend a court hearing over cocaine possesion a week last friday and the hearing will now be on the 2nd of February. It has been over 2 years since Doherty performed live solely and it is unkown if he has new material to perform or release though both are likely.

The Libertines furiously rehearsing ahead of Reading and Leeds Festival

The Libertines are said to be furiously rehearsing ahead of their reunion shows at Reading and Leeds Festival this weekend. In a message to fans, Carl Barat said the group, which includes original members Pete Doherty, Gary Powell and John Hassall, were “starting to sound pretty bang on.” The band have not performed together for over four years, and are set to appear on the main stage at both festivals this weekend.

Arcade Fire, Guns N’ Roses and Blink 182 will headline the festival with acts such as Queens Of The Stone Age, Biffy Clyro, Lostprophets, Dizzee Rascal, The Cribs, The Maccabees, Paramore, and Weezer also confirmed to appear.

Reading and Leeds Festival tickets are still available. The cheapest Leeds Festival weekend tickets are now available at £140, whilst Reading weekend tickets now begin trading at £175 from fan-to-fan ticket exchange websites such as GetMeIn, Viagogo and Seatwave.

Bob Dylan to perform in the UK this weekend

Bob Dylan will top the bill at this weekend’s Hop Farm Festival, marking his only UK appearance of 2010. Dylan will take to the stage on the Saturday night, 3rd July, at Paddock Wood in Kent after performances from the likes of Ray Davies, Mumford and Sons, Pete Doherty and Laura Marling.

On the previous night, Friday 2nd July, ticket holders will be treated to performances from Blondie, Dr John, Los Lobos and headline act Van Morrison.

Hop Farm Festival tickets are available from ticket vendors such as Seetickets, Gigantic, Ticketmaster and Viagogo. Friday ticket prices start at £45 whilst Saturday tickets are available for £65. Friday and Saturday night camping tickets will cost £25.

Carl Barat has had an eventful career – not least through his association with the infamous Pete Doherty. Still, it is easy to forget what an exciting and brilliant musician he is, whether in partnership with Doherty in The Libertines or when writing alone. He is also a tremendous live act; renowned for his frenetic live performances in The Libertines and Dirty Pretty Things.

Having just announced an October headline tour of the UK in support of his debut solo album, which will be released later this year, Carl Barat tickets went on sale this morning (18th June 2010) at 09:00 a.m. He takes in Leeds Cockpit, Manchester Deaf Institute, Wolverhampton Slade Rooms, Bristol TheklaSocial and London Scala, but before all that he will headline Leeds and Reading Festival with the Libertines – with firm prospect of a full reunion.

In fact, it is cheaper to buy Paul McCartney tickets for his Hard Rock Calling performance than to buy tickets for any of his scheduled stadium shows. With a general admission day ticket, fans will gain full entry to the festival and can also witness performances from the likes of Crowded House, Elvis Costello and Crosby, Stills and Nash.

Hard Rock Calling takes place in Hyde Park from Friday 25th June to Sunday 27th June. Hard Rock Calling tickets for Pearl Jam’s headline performance on the Friday can also be picked up for £32. Saturday tickets for Stevie Wonder’s headline appearance start at £45.

Download Festival tickets are still available, despite the event getting under way tomorrow. Download weekend tickets are currently available on the secondary ticket market for less than £150. Music fans with download tickets will have the chance to witness headline performances from AC/DC, Rage Against the Machine and Aerosmith. This year’s line up also includes Deftones, Motorhead, Slash, 30 Seconds to Mars, Bullet For My Valentine, The Blackout and A Day to Remember.

Hop Farm Festival tickets are also trading below face value. Hop Farm Festival may not be the most talked about festival of the summer, but it will this year play host to the likes of Bob Dylan, Pete Doherty, Van Morrison, Laura Marling and Seasick Steve. The festival takes place in Tonbridge this July and day tickets cost around £45 each, with camping tickets costing £25 on top of that.

Isle of Wight Festival tickets:

Fans with Isle of Wight Festival tickets can expect big things this summer, with a line-up that could be considered one of the best festival bills of the summer. The event will be headlined by Jay-Z, The Strokes and Paul McCartney and there will also be appearances across the weekend from the likes of Florence and the Machine, Blondie, Calvin Harris and Biffy Clyro.

Isle of Wight festival weekend with camping tickets can be picked up on the secondary ticket market for around £185. Alternatively, weekend tickets without camping can be bought for as little as £120.

Hard Rock Calling tickets:

Although only in it’s fourth year in 2010, Hard Rock Calling is quickly establishing itself as one of the best London festivals of the year. This year, as well as his Isle of Wight appearance, Paul McCartney will be headlining, along with Pearl Jam and Stevie Wonder. Other acts include The Hives, Jamiroquai, Crowded House, Crosby, Stills and Nash and Elvis Costello.

Although weekend tickets are not available, Hard Rock Calling day tickets are currently trading for as little as £40. That is less than the average price paid to see Paul McCartney perform at his upcoming headline shows here in the UK.

Reading and Leeds Festival tickets:

Perhaps a festival aimed more at the younger generation of festival goers, the Reading and Leeds festival boasts a huge line-up that can surely compete with that of Glastonbury. Blink 182, The Libertines, Guns N’ Roses, Arcade Fire, Dizzee Rascal and Cypress Hill will all be appearing on the main stage throughout the weekend.

Expect to pay around £230 on the secondary ticket market for a weekend ticket with camping to either Reading or Leeds. Considering the face value price was around £190 when the tickets went on sale a few months ago, it is well worth spending the extra few pounds to take advantage of the fantastic line-up.

Hop Farm Festival tickets:

Hop Farm Festival may not be the most talked about festival of the summer, but it will this year play host to the likes of Bob Dylan, Pete Doherty, Van Morrison, Laura Marling and Seasick Steve. The festival takes place in Tonbridge this July and is probably the cheapest alternative to Glastonbury this summer.

Day tickets cost around £45 each, with camping tickets costing £25 on top of that.

Gorillaz tickets:

Although not exactly a festival alternative, Gorillaz will be touring the UK in September on the back of their Glastonbury headline appearance. The band will be appearing at venues such as Glasgow SECC, Birmingham NIA, Newcastle Metro Radio Arena, Manchester MEN Arena,London O2 Arena and Dublin O2 Arena.

Gorillaz support acts for the September UK tour are yet to be announced, but expect some big names after appearances from Bobby Womack, De La Soul, Shaun Ryder and Super Furry Animals songwriter Gruff Rhys at the band’s Roundhouse shows in April. Ticket prices start at around £40.

The Libertines to reform for Reading and Leeds festival

It is strongly rumoured that The Libertines are set to reform for a headline slot at this summer’s Reading and Leeds festivals. The band originally formed in 1997, with members Pete Doherty, Carl Barat, John Hassall Gary Powell going on to reach great success with albums Up The Bracket and their self-titled second.

However, Pete Doherty’s much publicised personal problems were the start of the band’s demise, and although he and Barat have since gone on to form other reasonably successful projects, they have never reached the heights of their Libertine days.

The news will come as a huge plus for fans looking to buy Reading and Leeds festival tickets, as sources have reported today that the band have already accepted a huge sum of money in order to appear at the festivals.

It has recently been confirmed that Pete Doherty will be taking up a short residency at The Rhythm Factory in London’s Whitechapel later this month. Pete Doherty will perform three shows on January 14, 15 and 17.

New Pete Doherty dates announced for September

Pete Doherty will be playing four solo shows in the UK this September having released his debut solo album Grace/Wastelands earlier this year.

Pete Doherty will play the London Roundhouse (September 19), Leamington Spa Assembly (September 20), Manchester Apollo (September 21) and the Glasgow Barrowlands (September 23).

Tickets to the forthcoming Pete Doherty shows will go on general sale on Friday May 22 at 9am.

Beforehand, Pete Doherty will be making an appearance in some summer festivals this year.

Pete Doherty will be performing at T In The Park in Balado Airfield, Kinross which takes place from Thursday July 9 until Sunday July 12. Pete Doherty will also play the V Festival over the weekend of August 22-23 at Hylands Park, Chelmsford and Weston Park, Shifnal.

It has been confirmed that Oasis and The Killers will headline this years V Festival, which will take place across two sites, one in Chelmsford and one in Staffordshire on August 22 and August 23.

Blur return but Oasis are still the world’s best band

London’s O2 Academy Brixton was host to the surprise return of Blur after a self enforced seven year absence. Damon Albarn and Graham Coxon received an ovation from the crowd of rock royalty attending this year’s NME Award Show.

The former Britpop stars took to the stage for the first time together since splitting in 2002 with the surprise and low key performance of This Is A Low from one the most successful albums of the 90′s Parklife.

This performance marks the official return of Blur as they set out to tour the UK this summer with a live dates including performances at summer festivals T in the Park and Oxegen as well as headline shows at Manchester MEN Arena (June 26) two historical gigs in London’s Hyde Park(July 2 & 3).

The surprise Blur performance acted as the perfect cap to yet another memorable NME awards show which saw Oasis crowned best band and The Cure named Godlike Geniuses, Pete Doherty named best male solo artist and Kings of Leon were rewarded with best album for Only By The Night.

Meanwhile other award recipients included MGMT who took away best new band and best track, The Killers who were named best international band and Muse who once again took home best live band.

In the less rewarding categories NME readers voted for he Jonas Brothers to receive worst band and worst album prizes, while Amy Winehouse was voted the world’s worst dressed woman. However style icon and tv presenter Alexa Chung was voted best dressed.

Elbow were honoured for their outstanding contribution to British music and The Cure won the Godlike Genius Award.

Many of the NME award winners are on tour in 2009.

Glasvegas free Notting Hill gig plays into the early hours

Glasvegas played an intimate surprise in Notting Hill in the early hours of this morning (February 26)

The band had followed the NME Awards show at the O2 Academy Brixton where they had duetted with Florence And The Machine’s Florence Welch.

According to reports the gig saw sometime support act Carl Barat crowd surf – after being lifted up above the packed audience by Jon ‘The Reverend’ McClure. The free-to-enter venue was packed with Glasvegas fans for the show which began around 12:30am.

Glasvegas finish their headline slot on the NME tour at the NME Big Gig due to take place at London’s O2 Arena tonight (February 26) after which they our planning a brief brake before returning for the summer bout of festival appearances.

Meanwhile crowd surfer and former Libertine and Dirty Pretty Things star Carl Barat has announced his maiden solo gig at the Wakefield Escobar on March 7. Caral Barat who recently supported Glasvegas on their recent North America tour is following in the footsteps of former Libertine and best friend Pete Doherty who is planning his own solo tour to support his eagerly anticipated debut solo album ‘Grace/Wastelands’ released March 16.

The twelve date Pete Doherty tour kicks off at Cardiff University on March 13 and concludes at the Edinburgh Picture House on March 27. Oasis and Kings of Leon lead NME Awards charge

This years NME award nomination’s are dominated by former britpop legends Oasis and current Usrock royalty Kings of Leon. Oasis have been nominated for seven awards, including best band, best live band, best album and best video while Kings of Leon are in line for four statues, in the categories of best international band and best live band.

Life performances at the awards show are due to given by hotly tipped newcomers White Lies, Friendly Fires and Glasvegas, seasoned pro’s Franz Ferdinand and life time legend’s The Cure

Lily Allen, Keane, The Specials, Paolo Nutini, Digitalism and The Mars Volta are all amongst the latest round of performers confirmed to be playing this year’s Oxegen festival.

Killers confirmed as Oxegen Festival Headliners

Promoter’s MCD have announced that The Killers have joined the line-up for this year’s Oxegen festival.

Having also confirmed a series of festival appearances this summer including T In The Park, the Las Vegas band will also headline the Irish festival for the second year in a row at Punchestown Racecourse between July 10-12.

The Killers will be joining acts such as Bloc Party, Blur, Elbow Fight Like Apes, Jason Mraz, Katy Perry, Kings of Leon, Nick Cave And The Bad Seeds, Pendulum, Pete Doherty, Razorlight, Snow Patrol, The Killers, The Script, The Ting Tings, White Lies and Yeah Yeah Yeahs who have all previously confirmed appearances at this years festival.

Carl Barat annouces solo show

Former Libertine and Dirty Pretty Things star Karl Barat has announced his maiden solo gig at the Wakefield Escobar on March 7.

The solo gig officially marks Carl Barat’s latest musical project following the decision to disband Dirty Pretty Things last December after the group’s 2008 album ‘Romance At Short Notice’ was released to lukewarm praise, and the band decided that the time had come to move on.

Pete Doherty follows in Oscar Wildes footsteps

It has been announced that Pete Doherty is set to give a lecture at Trinity College in Dublin tomorrow Friday (February 4).

The singer will be the guest of The University Philosophical Society (‘The Phil’) following in the footsteps of past speakers including Oscar Wilde, Bram Stoker, Helen Mirren, Al Pacino and John McCain.

Pete is currently on a promotional tour to support his eagerly anticipated debut solo album ‘Grace/Wastelands’ released March 16 and his subsequent nationwide solo tour.

Before the tour begins, Pete Doherty is due to play two of the Shockwaves NME Awards show nights. Pete Doherty will play shows at the O2 Shepherds Bush Empire in London on February 22 and Glasgow Barrowlands on february 24.
