XFM Winter Wonderland line-up confirmed

The line-up for this year’s XFM Winter Wonderland has been confirmed. The shows will take place at Manchester O2 Apollo on Monday December 5th and London O2 Brixton Academy on Wednesday December 14th.

Chase and Status will headline the Manchester gig, and will be supported by the likes of Nero, Ed Sheeran, The Big Pink and Fenech-Soler.

The Kaiser Chiefs will top the bill at the London show, treating fans to a ‘Greatest Hits’ set, and will be supported by The Maccabees and The Horrors, with another special guest yet to be announced.

Pulp are playing at London’s Brixton Academy tonight (August 31st) and tomorrow night (September 1st) and all signs seem to suggest that they will bring out their classics for the shows.

Katy Perry reveals strange touring habit

Katy Perry has revealed how she copes with being homesick whilst on tour. The singer has told of how she never travels without her favourite pink blanket in order to cope with spending a lot of time away from home.

The US star revealed, “I have a little pink blanket that I snuggle into at night and I have a dressing gown from home. That’s me at my most private and comfortable on the bus. No one should ever see me in that state – I’m not trying to ruin anyone’s dreams of me! I am used to it though. I do a lot of travelling back and forth to LA and New York. I’ve routed it well so that I get to see my husband and I get time to see my kitties, who I love.”

The Flaming Lips plan theatre show

The Flaming Lips have confirmed that they are planning a theatrical production of their classic album, Yoshimi Battles The Pink Robots.

Speaking to Billboard, frontman Wayne Coyne said “It’ll be a big chunk of Flaming Lips music, probably about 30 songs. It’s a big deal. It’s hokey and wonderful and poignant and powerful. It’s really become a perfect combination of my fantastical robot-world vision and [director Des McAnuff's] little, internal, humanistic version of what that music is. I really believe it could work — and luckily I don’t have to do much!”

The Flaming Lips tickets are on sale now for the band’s upcoming UK performances. The band will play an Eden Sessions concert in June, followed by a headline show at Alexandra Palace in London. They will then headline the first ever Live From Jodrell Bank in Cheshire on 2nd July.

The 10-year-old singer, who is the daughter of Will Smith and Jada Pinkett-Smith, will be joined by other acts such as the Black Eyed Peas and Big Time Rush. She will perform a medley of memorable songs,including ‘Whip My Hair’ and ’21st Century Girl’.

Blue and pink hockey pitches for 2012 games

Blue pitches with pink surrounds will be used for the hockey tournament at the 2012 Olympics in London, organisers said today.

It will mark the first time a major hockey tournament has been played on a blue surface since the 1970′s, when artificial turf replaced natural grass.

“As we look to be innovative as well as providing first class facilities, we are pleased to be working with the International Hockey Federation and installing blue hockey pitches in 2012,” Debbie Jevans, London 2012′s Director of Sport, said in a statement.

“The colour blue will define hockey in 2012.”

Roger Waters dispels reunion rumours

Pink Floyd bass player and co-lead vocalist Roger Waters has moved to dispel rumours of a Pink Floyd reunion after a series of live appearances with Floyd guitarist Dave Gilmour. Despite playing with his old bandmate at a Hope Foundation Benefit Concert, and with some upcoming onstage performances with Gilmour in his ‘The Wall’ tour, Waters has said that it does not change anything about future Pink Floyd albums.

His reaction comes after Nick Mason hinted he’d love to perform with his old bandmates again, and that you should never say never to another reunion performance.

Waters has confirmed that Gilmour will be on stage with him for one show of the European leg and said he is looking forward to performing with his old band member again. He is also excited about bringing The Wall tour to the UK in May for a series of concerts at London’s O2, Manchester’s MEN Arena and one night in Birmingham.

Pink Floyd drummer hints at reunion

Pink Floyd drummer Nick Mason has hinted that the band could in line for a reunion. Mason told BBC 6 Music, “No one has said we will never work (together) again. I think it is very unlikely we are going to go out on tour however I live in hope we would absolutely do another Live 8 or play together for the right reasons.”

Former bandmate Roger Waters is set to perform the group’s classic album, The Wall, in its entirety at a series of UK shows this year.

Rod Stewart builds model railways before shows

‘Maggie may’ singer Rod Stewart, 66 has told Model Railroader Magazine that he likes to build scale models of railways before concerts. Instead of the usual suspects often found on artists riders such as bottles of alcohol, pink roses and blue m&ms the Scottish singer confessed that he preferred a large table to construct recreations of railways to calm him before going on stage. Stewart has also been nominated for a grammy award for his fifth American Song book album (Fly me to the moon…), the 53rd grammy awards, held in Los Angeles on the 13th of February has Stewart competing in the best traditional pop vocal album against Barbra Streisand and Michael Buble.

Roger Waters has added extra UK tour dates to his live schedule for 2011 – due to extraordinary demand. He will now perform another night at London O2 Arena on May 18th 2011, as well as two further gigs at Manchester Evening News Arena – May 28th and 29th 2011.

Sometimes it seems preposterous that there are only three people in Muse. The amount of layers to the sound they make is quite astounding for a trio, and only serves to illustrate the ambition behind Matt Bellamy, Christopher Wolstenholme and Dominic Howard’s music.

Muse have come a long way since the early days of Showbiz and Origin Of Symmetry, and third album Absolution illustrated the higher level that the band were aiming for. Black Holes and Revelations and Resistance have built on these foundations further, and Muse’s gigs at Lancashire County Cricket Club and Wembley Stadium in September sees them at the very top of their game.

Roger Waters is one of the most commercially successful musicians of all time – despite never really conforming to commercial music. His band Pink Floyd were a wonderfully ambitious group of people, and they raised the bar and set magnificently high standards that their contemporaries are still reaching for today. Albums The Wall and Dark Side Of The Moon are two of the most acclaimed ever – with the latter the second highest selling album in history.

Waters played Dark Side Of The Moon live to countless fans on a marathon world tour in 2005, and is now doing the same with multiple concerts in support of The Wall. However, such is the rate that the British band continue to evolve that they could yet exceed their past contemporaries both in terms of popularity and brilliance.

Muse, the ambitious rock band of Matt Bellamy, Dominic Howard and Christopher Wolstenholme, absolutely stunned festival fans at T In The Park with an incredible live performance on Friday.

Beginning with Uprising, they moved swiftly on to Supermassive Black Hole and Map Of The Problematique, before taking it back a few years with New Born. Other classic Muse songs featured in a fan-friendly set, with Hysteria, Nina Simone cover Feeling Good, Time Is Running Out, Starlight and Stockholm Syndrome all going down to a rapturous reception.

Muse then returned for an encore of Plug In Baby and Knights Of Cydonia, with frontman Bellamy screaming Scotland as the set came to a close.

The Devon band will embark on a short UK tour in late summer 2010, and Muse tickets are on sale now for their September concerts in Manchester and London. Each gig will be boosted by some fantastic support acts, and a full list of their openers and gig information is below:

Muse may have had their famous UFO banned from Glastonbury Festival and T In The Park due to health and safety reasons, but the wonderfully ambitious band have no plans to drop the spectacular prop from their own live sets at Wembley Stadium and Lancashire County Cricket Club.

Muse tickets are in high demand after thousands of fans across the UK witnessed the band’s breathtaking headline performance at Glastonbury festival. As well as a boost in record sales, ticket sales for two shows at Wembley Arena and a concert at Lancashire County Cricket Club have risen.

Muse will perform at Lancashire County Cricket Club on Saturday 4th September, and will be supported by Editors, The Temper Trap and Pulled Apart By Horses.

For their Wembley Arena show on Friday 10th September, the support acts will be Lily Allen, The Big Pink and White Rabbits.

For the second Muse Wembley Arena show, the band will be supported by Biffy Clyro, White Lies and I Am Arrows.

Muse ticket prices start at £50 and there are over 7,500 available for the three shows.

Wireless Festival tickets: Pink, The Ting Tings and Gossip

Wireless Festival tickets are available below face value, with the event set to get under way tomorrow. Pink, The Ting Tings, Gossip, The Temper Trap and Plan B are all scheduled to appear on Friday 2nd July.

Day tickets are now trading from £33, with 40 still available below the face value price of £47. All tickets are general admission and will grant the holder with access to all four stages of the festival.

Tickets are also available for the Saturday and Sunday of the festival. LCD Soundsystem will headline the Saturday night, with support appearances from 2Many DJ’s and Snoop Dogg. Jay-Z will top the bill on the Sunday night of the festival, with appearances from Lily Allen, Friendly Fires and Slash confirmed for the same day.

Snoop Dogg will be appearing at Wireless Festival on Saturday 3rd July after a hugely successful Glastonbury performance last weekend. Snoop Dogg is again expected to perform all of his greatest hits at the Hyde Park show, in what will be his second of a series of UK and Ireland shows. The hip-hop legend will also perform in Cork, Dublin and at London’s O2 Shepherds Bush Empire throughout July.

LCD Soundsytem will headline Wireless Festival on Saturday 3rd July, and will be joined on the line-up by 2Many DJ’s and Missy Elliot. The festival will also host performances from Pink, The Ting Ting’s, Gossip, Lily Allen, Jay-Z and Friendly Fires across the weekend.

Wireless Festival tickets are currently trading from £35. The cheapest tickets currently available are for Friday 2nd July, with Wireless Festival Saturday tickets available for £45. Ticket prices for Sunday 4th July start at £101.

Summer is festival season. It doesn’t take a rocket scientist to understand why the combination of fantastic live music and sunny weather goes down a treat with music fans, and there are plenty of outstanding line-ups to choose from this summer.

However, why not be that little bit more adventurous and make a trip of it? Rock Werchter, located approximately 20 miles from Brussels, Belgium has one of the best line-ups around. It is headlined by Faithless, Muse, Green Day, Editors, Rammstein, Pink, Pearl Jam, and Arcade Fire, and the list of acts across the stages is as consistently excellent as that list.

Pink plays magnificent live concert in Dublin

Wireless Festival fans are in for a treat.

Pink began her performance at Dublin RDS with a thirty metre descent from a box decorated with enormous balloons. She then grabbed a megaphone and sung the words “I’m coming up so you better get this party started” – the chorus to one of her best loved songs. The crowd was instantly enraptured. Another highlight was when she floated the audience with the aid of a giant transparent hamster ball – as made famous by the Flaming Lips.

Pink tickets are available for the rest of the Philadelphia singer’s UK tour, with dates at Coventry Ricoh Arena, Hampden Park in Glasgow, Alton Towers, before finishing at Portman Road Stadium in Ipswich.

After the culmination of her Funhouse Summer Carnival tour, she will play in Hyde Park London, headlining the Wireless Festival. She tops a bill above the Ting Tings, Gossip, The Temper Trap and Plan B – to name but a few, and Wireless Festival tickets are currently on sale for £35.

Roger Waters will be performing seven ground-breaking shows here in the UK next year, playing his former band Pink Floyd’s legendary album, The Wall, in it’s entirety at each concert.

Waters will appear at London’s O2 Arena on May 11th, 12th, 14th, 15th and 17th as well as Manchester MEN Arena on May 20th and 21st.

Roger Waters tickets are still available online and are currently trading from £60. The cheapest Roger Waters tickets are for performances at the O2 Arena on 14th and 15th May and are listed on Ticketline for seats in the upper tier of the arena. Muse Wembley Stadium tickets: Buyer’s guide

Muse are set to perform two back-to-back shows at Wembley Stadium on Friday 10th September and Saturday 11th September, and seated tickets are still available at face value for both shows from ticketing websites, starting at £22 each.

Standing/general admission tickets have officially sold out, but are still available from ticket exchange websites, with varying prices for each show. There are almost 9,000 Muse tickets yet to be sold for the Wembley Stadium gigs.

Standing tickets for Friday 10th September are currently trading between £62 and £200, whilst standing tickets for Saturday 11th September are priced from £80 to £200.

It may be the varying support acts that sway fans decisions on which night to attend. Muse will be supported by Lily Allen, The Big Pink and White Rabbits on the 10th September. On the following night, the band will be supported by Biffy Clyro, White Lies and I Am Arrows.

Roger Waters has extended his upcoming O2 Arena residency by adding two extra dates on May 14th and 15th. The gigs are in addition to the prevously announced shows on May 11th,12th and 17th.

The Pink Floyd star will be performing the band’s legendary album, The Wall, in full at each of the shows.

Roger Waters pre-sale tickets for his May 2011 UK dates are now available, with prices starting at around £60. Roger Waters is set to make five rare UK arena appearances, starting at London’s O2 Arena on Wednesday 11th May.

Pink’s latest UK tour, the Funhouse Summer Carnival Tour, will begin at Sunderland’s Stadium of Light on Friday 11th June and some big name’s have been confirmed to join the American singer. British artist VV Brown and US acts Hockey and Butch Walker will all be appearing.

Isle of Wight 2010 line-up now complete

Paul McCartney to headline Isle of Wight Festival

Paul McCartney has been confirmed as the Sunday night headliner at this year’s Isle of Wight festival. The former Beatle joins Jay-Z and the Strokes as the final headliner in what has shaped up to be an exceptional line-up for this year’s event.

Having performed at Glastonbury in 2004, McCartney is no stranger to UK festivals, but has never performed at the Isle of Wight.

Other acts already confirmed for the festival include Florence and the Machine, Friendly Fires, Blondie, Pink, Biffy Clyro and Spandau Ballet.

The show will be one of five for McCarntney this June, with the others being held at the RDS Arena in Dublin, Hampden Park in Glasgow, the Millennium Stadium in Cardiff and Hard Rock Calling in London.

The Big Pink beg to play alongside Lily Allen

New breakthrough act The Big Pink have revealed the lengths they had to go to play alongside Lily Allen at last week’s NME Awards. The rockers performed a mash-up of ‘Dominoes’ and Carly Simon’s 1972 hit ‘You’re So Vain’ with Lily Allen, but this was not before some grovelling had to be done.

‘We thought it was a really funny thing to do – do ‘You’re So Vain,’ Robbie Furze told NME, before revealing how he got permission to play the song. ‘I wrote Carly Simon an email going… well, I was just really… honest. I guess she must have listened to the song. One of the two – the email was good and the song was good!’

The Big Pink are set for a six-date UK tour this May. The duo will perform at venues across the UK including London, Glasgow and Manchester among others.
