The biggest shock yesterday was Andy Roddick’s loss to Yen-Hsun Lu of Chinese Taipei (formerly Taiwan). The American made it to last year’s final but did not take control of the game with either his serve or his forehand – usually his two finest assets.

After struggling in their first few matches to capture their very best form, Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal won convincingly yesterday, and now look close to being back to their best.

On the women’s side, Kim Clijsters won the battle of Belgium as she came from one set down to defeat compatriot Justine Henin. After playing a fairly atrocious first set, Clijsters upped her game admirably to seal a victory, and interestingly Henin has not beaten her fellow Belgian since the pair emerged from retirement. Despite Clijsters’ excellent form, Venus and Serena Williams remain the favourites for the title.

Finally, Andy Murray continues his excellent form at Wimbledon 2010. He is the only player on the men’s side not to have dropped a set so far in the tournament, and overcame the winner of the AEGON Championships at Queens Club, Sam Querrey, with aplomb. Murray will next face the exciting Frenchman Jo-Wilfried Tsonga in the next round, and will hope to up his first serve percentage. The rest of the British number one’s game continues to fire nicely.

Like Roger Federer, Venus and Serena Williams are viewed as two of the greatest players of all time, while Justine Henin reportedly came out of retirement purely because Wimbledon was the one Grand Slam missing from her glittering C.V. Even so, Wimbledon Ladies’ Final tickets are on sale between £669 and £3745.

Of course, earlier rounds are inevitably less expensive, and Wimbledon – like the World Cup and the Olympics – is one of those sporting events that everyone has to be part of once in their life.

Whether Murray enjoys a successful tournament or not, players of the calibre of world number one Rafael Nadal, Novak Djokovic and Andy Roddick are certainly worth seeing, and Queens tickets are still on sale for all remaining days of the tournament – including the final.

There are over 500 Queens Final tickets available, with prices beginning at £104 from Ticketmaster subsidiary GetMeIn. Top of the range tickets are also on sale for £528 – also from GetMeIn – with an excellent view from the South Stand similar to that broadcast on television.

As the first British man to win at Queens Club since Bunny Austin in 1938, the whole country will hope that Andy Murray can equal Fred Perry’s feat from 1936 – and win Wimbledon.

Before that though, he has a trophy to defend.

Who would have expected Robin Söderling to beat Roger Federer in four sets – ending a 12-match losing streak against the Swiss maestro in the process?

Who would have expected Jurgen Melzer to make it to the semi-finals at Roland Garros, having never progressed beyond the third round of a Grand Slam before in his career?

It all bodes well for the next tournament on the grass courts of Queens Club.

The victory also served notice of Nadal’s intent to regain the French Open crown he surrendered to Roger Federer last year, after four straight titles.

Andy Murray is the top seeded player in action for the AEGON Championships this year as he prepares for the 2009 Wimbledon Tennis Championships.

The AEGON Championships, held at The Queens Club London, will also feature top seeds including Gilles Simon and Andy Roddick, who like Andy Murray, received a bye into the second round of the AEGON Championships.

Andy Murray’s second round opponent will be Andreas Seppi, however Andy Murray is due to play his second round doubles match later today with partner Lleyton Hewitt after beating Andy Roddick and Rajeev Ram in the first round 3-6, 6-3, 12-10.

Both Andy Roddick and Lleyton Hewitt will be hoping to win this tournament held at The Queens Club London for the fifth time.

Lleyton Hewitt made an impressive start at the AEGON Championships with his first round 6-1, 6-0 win against Eduardo Schwank.
