Rise Against announce UK November tour

Punk rockers Rise Against have revealed plans to tour the UK this autumn.

The American four-piece will play nine dates, supported by The Nightwatchman (the side project of Rage Against The Machine guitarist Tom Morello) and Polar Bear Club. The tour, which starts on November 2nd in Nottingham, follows the January release of their sixth studio album Endgame, and will come after their September slot supporting the Foo Fighters on their US tour, and a nine date Canadian tour in October.

Jane’s Addiction more influential than Nirvana

Rage Against The Machine’s guitarist Tom Morello made the statement when speaking at their induction to the Guitar Center’s RockWalk.

According to the guitarist is is Jane’s Addiction who lead ”rock out of the hair metal wilderness of the ’80s” not Nirvana who are so frequently credited with the accolade.

Jane’s Addiction were inducted into the Guitar Center’s RockWalk, a hall of fame specifically honouring musical artists. Tom Morello made a speech at the event saying: ”Nirvana often gets credit for being the first ‘alternative’ band to break through, the band that changed music,” said Morello. “That’s just not true. It was Jane’s Addiction: inspiring, intelligent, furiously rocking and artistically deep.”

Perry Farrell, Jane’s Addiction’s frontman, was touched by Morello’s words: “That speech made me sound so damn good, I don’t need to look in the mirror ever again. Just play that over and over every morning.”

Jane’s Addiction are releasing their new album ’The Great Escape Artist’ later this year. They are performing at both Reading and Leeds Festivals this summer.

Tom Morello to release third solo album

Former Rage Against the Machine and Audioslave guitarist Tom Morello is set to release his third solo album.

The album, named ‘World Wide Rebel Songs’, will be his third under the Nightwatchman name. It will be released later this summer.

The album follows 2007′s One Man Revolution and 2008′s The Fabled City.

Morello has praised his label, New West, in a statement. “Their commitment to their artists is inspiring and I’m looking forward to fanning the flames of discontent with many Nightwatchman releases under their banner,” he said.

As the summer festival season fast approaches, here at Tixdaq.com we have used our knowledge of the ticket market to provide you with details of some fantastic deals currently available. Music fans need not miss out if tickets have sold out from primary vendors, as ticket exchange websites are currently listing thousands of tickets at some very reasonable prices.

Hard Rock Calling tickets have been falling in price in recent weeks, with tickets to see Paul McCartney on the final day of the festival, Sunday 27th June, now trading from £32. In fact, it is cheaper to buy Paul McCartney tickets for his Hard Rock Calling performance than to buy tickets for any of his scheduled stadium shows. With a general admission day ticket, fans will gain full entry to the festival and can also witness performances from the likes of Crowded House, Elvis Costello and Crosby, Stills and Nash.

Hard Rock Calling takes place in Hyde Park from Friday 25th June to Sunday 27th June. Hard Rock Calling tickets for Pearl Jam’s headline performance on the Friday can also be picked up for £32. Saturday tickets for Stevie Wonder’s headline appearance start at £45.

Download Festival tickets are still available, despite the event getting under way tomorrow. Download weekend tickets are currently available on the secondary ticket market for less than £150. Music fans with download tickets will have the chance to witness headline performances from AC/DC, Rage Against the Machine and Aerosmith. This year’s line up also includes Deftones, Motorhead, Slash, 30 Seconds to Mars, Bullet For My Valentine, The Blackout and A Day to Remember.

Hop Farm Festival tickets are also trading below face value. Hop Farm Festival may not be the most talked about festival of the summer, but it will this year play host to the likes of Bob Dylan, Pete Doherty, Van Morrison, Laura Marling and Seasick Steve. The festival takes place in Tonbridge this July and day tickets cost around £45 each, with camping tickets costing £25 on top of that.

Over 1700 Aerosmith tickets remain unsold for London O2 Arena date

To popular acclaim, American rockers Aerosmith will be headlining the Download Festival this weekend with fans flocking to witness them along with the likes of Rage Against The Machine and AC/DC.

What seems to be less known is that Steven Tyler, Joe Perry et al will also be performing at the London O2 Arena on June 15 with a substantial amount of tickets remaining unsold. At the last count there were over 1700 Aerosmith tickets available which is a remarkable figure for a band that have stood the test of time.

It is possible that the majority of Aerosmith’s hardcore UK fans will be making the journey to Castle Donington to see their heroes but you would expect a band with 40 years worth of music making behind them to sell out their show in the capital.

One drawback could be that it is right in the middle of festival season and, with money tight, many rock fans are having to pick and choose their gigs. Nevertheless, anyone with an interest in seeing a seminal rock band live could do worse than part with the £50 currently being asked by GetMeIn for a seat in the upper tier of the arena – the cheapest ticket on offer.

The cheapest general admission Aerosmith ticket can be bought through Viagogo for £55 and gives you the freedom to mosh to your heart’s content. But if you want a great view as close to the stage as possible then you may have to fork out up to £680 via Ticket Network to sit in prized Block 101 with that price perhaps suggesting that Aerosmith are still very much in demand after all.

Download tickets are still widely available from ticketing websites and weekend tickets with camping are now trading below £150. There are over 70 Download weekend tickets listes on sites such as Seatwave, Viagogo and eBay, with the cheapest currently available at £140.

Weekend ticket holders can expect headline performances from AC/DC, Aerosmith and, on the back of their Finsbury Park Rage Factor performance, Rage Against the Machine. Download Festival is giving rock fans of a more sensitive disposition the chance to enjoy the festival experience via snappily titled ‘RIP tickets’.

The organisers of Download Festival have revealed that there will be 22 more acts confirmed to the lineup on Monday. They told fans the news via their Facebook page, where they wrote:
“22 more bands. Announced midnight on Monday. The promise of a ‘variety of genres’ and ‘something for everyone’. I don’t know about you, but I’m pretty damn excited.”

Bayern machine rolls on

It is difficult to avoid stereotypes of German efficiency when it comes to Bayern Munchen, typically known as Bayern Munich in the UK, but this year the Bavarian side are playing an attractive free-flowing game to complement their naturally ruthless streak. Bayern seem to challenge for honours every season, and also have a strong production line of talent constantly emerging from their academy that is the envy of many Premier League sides. Goalkeeper Michael Rensing and midfielders Bastian Schweinsteiger and Thomas Müller are all home-grown players that slot in seamlessly alongside international stars Miroslav Klose, Franck Ribery and Arjen Robben.

After a disappointing start to the season, Bayern Munchen have recaptured their cutting edge, and between 29th November 2009 and 13th February 2010 they won nine straight matches – scoring an average of over three goals a game. They first gained the top spot in the Bundesliga after 18 matches had been played, and since then have only relinquished it for two weeks before regaining the lead.

The challengers to Bayern’s throne are numerous, for the title race in Germany is more open than most European leagues. Over the last ten years, Borussia Dortmund, Werder Bremen, VfB Stuttgart and VfL Wolfsburg have been worthy champions. This season, the nearest contenders are Schalke 04 and Bayer Leverkusen, who are 2 and 3 points adrift respectively. With games against both to come as the Bundesliga reaches its climax, the big matches look set to decide the recipient of the title.

Meanwhile, Wolfsburg are looking to improve their disappointing league campaign with a recovery from mid-table. The Lower Saxony club won the Bundesliga title in the 2008-2009 with the help of their brilliant strikeforce of Grafite and the much sought-after Bosnian, Edin Dzeko. If Wolfsburg’s season is underwhelming Hertha Berlin’s is quite disastrous. After finishing a very credible fourth in last season, they currently rest at the foot of the table with just 15 points from 25 games – a points-to-games ratio that is worse than Premier League strugglers Portsmouth.

After finishing The X Factor’s reign at the top of the Christmas singles charts in 2009, Rage Against The Machine were voted Heroes Of The Year by NME Readers. The fact that the proceeds of all the sales of anthem Killing In The Name went to the homeless charity Shelter makes the award a bit more poignant than if it were merely for defeating the X Factor juggernaut.

Rage Against The Machine play a date at Ireland’s O2 Arena on the 8th June, followed by a headline appearance at Download Festival.

Slash has revealed that he’s in talks to perform at the 2010 Download Festival. The ex-Guns N’ Roses guitarist and general rock legend says he’s keen to play some European festivals this summer, following the release of his debut solo album on May 10. Speaking to Radio 1′s Newsbeat, he said: ‘I know we were talking about doing Download and there’s a couple of other ones. We’ll do some around Germany as well.’

‘The Climb’ named fifth best-selling single of 2009

Joe McElderry’s ‘The Climb’ has been named the fifth best-selling single of 2009. This news will please fans of the X Factor who were dismayed to see him knocked off Christmas Number One by the Twitter/Facebook-led campaign for Rage Against the Machine’s ‘Killing in the Name,’ and further stir up interest in the X Factor Live Tour which kicks off in February. Kelly Jones has been the latest artist to speak out about the Rage Against the Machine vs X Factor chart battle. The Stereophonics frontman said he understood X Factor and its mass appeal, but did not consider it music in the same way that he does the Rage Against Machine.

This year’s X Factor winner. Joe McElderry, will go head-to-head with Rage Against the Machine for the UK Christmas number one title.

Kelly Jones and his Stereophonics band mates are set to hit the road next March. The Stereophonics tour kicks off at on Newcastle Metro Radio Arena on March 1. The Welsh rockers also call UK venues including the Glasgow SECC, MEN Arena the O2 Arena in London. The Stereophonics tour climaxes at Wembley Arena on March 11.
