3. The Strokes- Hard To Explain- The Strokes delivered their ambivalent indie rock to Reading and Leeds with great aplomb. They sent the crowds into rapturous frenzy and must be regarded as one of the highlights of Reading and Leeds 2011. Here is Hard to Explain.

1. Pulp- Disco 2000- Pulp continued their much acclaimed come back Summer with two stunning sets at Reading and Leeds Festivals. They induced two of the biggest sing alongs throughout the weekend and Disco 2000 is our number 1 highlight.

This coming weekend (July 8th-10th) sees T In The Park descend into Balado, Scotland. Famous for its charged atmosphere and unique Scottish vibe, the three-day event once again has a world-class line-up. Featuring headline sets from Arctic Monkeys, Coldplay and Foo Fighters, support comes from an incredible line-up including Beyonce, The Strokes, Pulp, The Script, 2manydjs, and My Chemical Romance. Latitude Festival arrives in Suffolk on July 15th, for three days of incredible music in one of the most relaxed festivals in the country. The weekend will see headline performances from The National (Friday 15th), Paolo Nutini (Saturday 16th) and Suede (Sunday 17th). Also appearing on the Obelisk Arena are Bright Eyes, Paloma Faith, The Cribs, My Morning Jacket, Glasvegas and Hurts. Headlining The Word Arena are Bombay Bicycle Club (15th), Foals (16th) and Eels (17th), with The Vaccines, Echo & The Bunnymen and Lykke Li also appearing.

Latitude Festival tickets for the weekend are currently selling for as little as £121.

On August 20th, V Festival kicks off in Chelmsford (Hylands Park) and Staffordshire (Weston Park). Headlining the two-day event are Eminem and Arctic Monkeys, with support from chart favourites such as Rihanna, Plan B, The Script, Kaiser Chiefs, Manic Street Preachers and Lostprophets. Pendulum and Dizzee Rascal headline the 4Music Stage, with Duran Duran and Chase and Status set to top the bill on The Arena Stage. The weekend is a favourite due to regularly world-class headliners and excellent atmosphere.

V Festival weekend tickets are selling from £200 for the Chelmsford event, and £190 for the Hylands Park weekend.

Both Reading Festival and Leeds Festival take place over the August bank holiday weekend, Friday 26th – Sunday 28th. Bestival is one of the summer’s latest festivals, but also one of the most critically acclaimed. Featuring a famous incredibly chilled-out atmosphere, the weekend is a frequent award winner, including best major UK festival in 2010. This year’s festival, taking place September 9th – 11th, features headliners Pendulum, The Cure and Primal Scream. Also at the Isle of Wight festival will be PJ Harvey, The Maccabees, Crystal Castle, Chromeo, Robyn, Public Enemy, Fatboy Slim and The Drums.

Bring Me The Horizon are supporting Machine Head on four dates of their arena tour in December. The band then head overseas and once their touring commitments are done will return to the studio to write & record their fourth album.

Singer Oli Sykes has confirmed “These will be our last dates on this touring cycle on this side of the Atlantic”

He is surprised that they are ‘doing bigger and bigger venues’ but  can’t imagine headlining arenas themselves. He is ‘honoured’ to be on tour with Machine Head who were a ‘massive inspiration to us growing up’.

As well as their winter tour with Machine Head in December they are also playing Reading and Leeds Festivals this summer.

They headline Reading and Leeds Festival 2010 this summer, but news of their own tour will be music to the ears of their fans. Having collaborated with the likes of David Bowie in the past, this represents yet another incredible landmark in the career of the band.

They played an Eden Session at Cornwall’s famous complex of biomes The Eden Project recently in support of indie stalwarts Doves, and after opening with album title track Sigh No More, songs such as The Cave, Little Lion Man and Roll Away Your Stone went down a treat with the crowd. Frontman Marcus Mumford announced to the crowd at one point that it was their first ever show in Cornwall, but one got the feeling that it would not be their last.

Throughout a busy summer, the band will appear at Eden Sessions supporting Doves, Hop Farm Festival, T In The Park, Oxegen and Reading and Leeds festivals.

Perhaps the most sought after festival tickets since going on sale earlier this year are Reading and Leeds festival tickets. This year’s joint festival at Bramham Park, Leeds and Richfield Avenue, Reading will see the likes of Blink 182, Guns N’ Roses, The Libertines, Arcade Fire, Foals, We Are Scientists and many more take to the stage. This year’s festival can boast it’s most exciting line-up for many years as headliners include Jay-Z, The Strokes and the legendary Sir Paul McCartney. Isle of Wight weekend tickets, without camping are still available at the face value price of £130. Weekend with camping ticket prices start at just £185, a small price to pay to see so many huge acts.

V Festival is another hugely popular summer destination for music fans. The dual festival will take place in both Chelmsford and Shifnal on 21st and 22nd August and will this year play host to headline appearances from Kasabian and Kings of Leon. Interestingly, V Festival day tickets are available below £100, and considering many Kings of Leon fans are paying more than this to see the band’s headline show at Hyde Park in June, surely their V Festival appearance could be a better alternative, given the appearances on the same day from acts such as Stereophonics, Editors, Paul Weller and The Courteeners.

Yet another fantastic deal available this week is for Hyde Park’s Wireless festival, due to take place from the 2nd to 4th July. Wireless festival day tickets can be picked up for just £45 from secondary ticket websites, but are selling fast. Ticket holders can expect appearances from Snoop Dogg, LCD Soundsystem, The Ting Tings, Gossip and The Temper Trap.

The Arctic Monkeys prepared for their headline live performance with a gig at the London O2 Brixton Academy last night, their first live gig since the release of their hotly anticipated third album Humbug.

Not only did the Arctic Monkeys perform the new songs, but belted out the hits from their previous albums Whatever People Say I Am, That’s What I’m Not and Favourite Worst Nightmare. Also, as reported earlier on Tixdaq News, Them Crooked Vultures filled in the support slot.

Now whilst some bands like the Arctic Monkeys warmed up on stage in the run up to their Reading and Leeds Festival performance, another band have had to cancel upcoming gigs.

Maximo Park have had to announce the cancellation of their tour of North America due to illness, which was scheduled to take place from September 6.

In the statement from Maximo Park, the cancellation was cited as being for personal reasons, and wholeheartedly apologised to those looking forward to the shows.

The statement also said that Maximo Park always like coming to North America and would do all they can to reschedule the shows.

Let’s hope Maximo Park are well enough to perform at the Reading and Leeds Festival, but if not, Maximo Park are scheduled to return to the UK for three headline dates in October.

The Maximo Park tour will play at the Glasgow Barrowland (October 7), Manchester Apollo (October 8 ) and the London Royal Albert Hall (October 9).

Meanwhile, another band set to take the stage at the Reading and Leeds Festival is Fall Out Boy, despite their lead singer Patrick Stump allegedly being arrested in Hollywood with a driving charge in the early hours of August 26.

It has been reported that Patrick Stump was driving without a license and paid $15,000 (£9,200) bail. However, the incident is not expected to get in the way of their Reading and Leeds Festival appearance.

The Reading and Leeds Festival is taking place at the Reading Richfield Avenue and the Leeds Bramham Park from August 28-30.

It is rumoured that David Grohl’s new band, Them Crooked Vultures, are set to perform before the Arctic Monkeys this evening.

The Arctic Monkeys are playing a special gig at London Brixton Academy that is only open to members of their fan club. Alex Turner and his band mates are set to showcase material from the latest Arctic Monkeys album entitled Humbug which was released this week.

Rumours are currently circulating online suggesting Them Crooked Vultuers will be performing in the support slot. Them Crooked Vultures is the latest prjoect of Foo Fighters frontman, Dave Grohl. The band also features Josh Homme of Queens of the Stonage as well as Led Zeppelin’s John Paul Jones.

Earlier this month, a statement on the official website for the Reading and Leeds Festival announced that flags were not allowed to be brought into the main arena, in order to allow ticket holders the best possible view.

Some have opposed the ban, claiming that the wave of colours was a main feature of the festivals, and that the flags had some practical implications such as being used as a meeting point in the sea of people. However, others may be thrilled with the flag ban, especially those who have had their views obstructed by flags in the past.

Now it seems Glastonbury may implement the flag ban next year after conversations were held between Michael Eavis, the Glastonbury festival chief, and Melvin Benn, the head of Festival Republic.

Melvin Benn, who runs the Reading and Leeds Festivals and also helps to organise Glastonbury, reflected on this year’s Glastonbury festival, which was held in June, and claimed that there was poor visibility of the acts on stage because of the number of flags.

Melvin Benn continued to say that there had always been flags at festivals but not to the extent as now, where flags had become very long and tall and there were more flags now than ever before.

For now, no official decision on a flag ban at Glastonbury has been made, and despite some protests against the flag ban at the Reading and Leeds Festival 2009, event organisers have failed to respond.

Despite the summer months coming to an end marking the end of the festival season, there are still plenty of festivals to look forward to in the UK.

Of course, the Reading and Leeds Festival is still to come, taking place at Reading Richfield Avenue and Leeds Bramham Park from August 28-30, headlined by Arctic Monkeys, Radiohead and Kings of Leon.

However if dance is more your taste in music, you can check out Creamfields 2009 which takes place at the Halston Daresbury Estate from August 29-30 where you can catch Basement Jaxx, Dizzee Rascal and Calvin Harris in action.

Get Loaded In The Park is one of the last of the biggest festivals that take place in the capital, and is happening at London Clapham Common on August 30, featuring Orbital, Royksopp, VV Brown, and a DJ set from Pendulum.

Bestival 2009 is one of the last festivals to feature some chart-toppping acts such as Elbow, Massive Attack, Lily Allen, Florence and the Machine, and Little Boots. Bestival 2009 is taking place at the Isle of Wight Robin Hill Adventure Park from September 11-13.

The Arctic Monkeys have revealed that the gig will only be open to fan club members.  Fans of the Arctic Monkeys have until midnight tomorrow (August 19) to register for tickets on the band’s official site ArcticMonkeys.com.  Fans will be selected at random and invited to purchase tickets.

Placebo have had to cancel dates for their North America tour so that frontman Brian Molko can recover from illness.

Last week, Brian Molko caught a virus whilst touring Asia and in combination with jet lag and exhaustion, fainted on stage in Osaka, Japan whilst performing at the Summer Sonic Festival after the first song.

Now, Brian Molko’s doctors have ordered him to take a six-week break and recover at home in London, resulting in the cancellation of their North American dates, which would have begun in Portland on September 12.

The statement on the official Placebo website from Riverman Management claimed they would try to rearrange the cancelled dates as soon as possible.

However, there has been no announcement as to whether Placebo will still be appearing at the Reading and Leeds Festival.

The Reading and Leeds Festival is taking place over the bank holiday weekend of August 28-30 at Reading Richfield Avenue and Leeds Bramham Park.

If Placebo do not perform at the Reading and Leeds Festival, fans will be pleased to hear that the band are scheduled to return to the UK to tour in December.

It has recently been announced that Radiohead will treat their fans to previously unheard tracks at the forthcoming Reading and Leeds festival.

Radiohead have also revealed that they will be releasing a new song entitled These Are My Twisted Words as a free download.

Radiohead guitarist, Jonny Greenwood, posted a comment on the Dead Air Space blog confirming the band will be playing the new track and some other new material at the Reading and Leeds Festival. Rock and dance act The Prodigy are to go on a mini tour of the UK in January 2010 in what they have called the Run With The Wolves Tour.

The venues are places The Prodigy have rarely visited and is the result of the demand from many of their fans who have yet to catch them perform live.

The Prodigy are currently on a world tour of their album Invaders Must Die and will be releasing the single Take Me To The Hospital on August 31.

The Run With The Wolves Tour begins at the Doncaster Dome on January 21 2010 and will be stopping off at the Bridlington Spa (January 22), Blackpool Empress Ballroom at Winter Gardens (January 23), Plymouth Pavilions (January 25), Southend-on-Sea Cliffs Pavilion (January 26), and finally the Bournemouth International Centre (January 27).

The Prodigy tickets for the Run With The Wolves Tour will go on general sale on Friday August 14 at 9.30am.

The future for Bloc Party will be decided after their current touring commitments

The upcoming dates to catch Bloc Party live in the UK could possibly be your last chance as frontman of the band Kele Okereke says he does not know if the band will record a new album.

Bloc Party are currently on the tour circuit having already performed at the iTunes Festival earlier this month, but Kele Okereke did not have a definite answer when asked recently what their future plans were.

Kele Okereke claimed that now they were out of contract, they could take some time off, maybe one or even three years.

He continued by saying that Bloc Party might never make a new album again, but then again could also end up straight back in the studio.

The only thing that seemed certain was that the band were to see how they feel once their touring schedules have been completed.

Bloc Party will have one more major UK festival to perform at, which is the Reading & Leeds Festival taking place at the Reading Richfield Avenue and the Leeds Bramham Park (August 28-30).

Then Bloc Party will head out on their headline tour of the UK throughout October.

Ricky Wilson from the Kaiser Chiefs broke a rib whilst supporting Green Day at Madison Square Gardens, New York.

A statement from the Kaiser Chiefs reports that frontman Ricky Wilson broke a rib whilst performing in New York at Madison Square Gardens as the support act for Green Day.

Ricky Wilson was jumping between the barrier and the stage when he injured himself, but after treatment it was found that the injury was not serious enough to cancel any upcoming dates they have.

It seems Ricky Wilson has a habit of injuring himself whilst on tour of the US. He has already broken his ankle in Seattle in March 2005 and then suffered ankle ligament damage at the Austin Limits Festival in September 2007.

Kaiser Chiefs will be returning to the UK for the Reading & Leeds Festival, which takes place at Reading Richfield Avenue and Leeds Bramham Park (August 28-30).

Green Day will also be touring the UK later this year in support of their latest album 21st Century Breakdown.

Kings Of Leon are scheduled to play the Reading & Leeds Festival, despite Caleb Followill feeling under pressure from the constant touring

Caleb Followill from Kings Of Leon will be hoping for a break from touring soon as he recently admitted feeling overloaded with work.

He felt so much pressure during the Kings Of Leon performance at T In The Park earlier this month that he smashed his guitar.

Caleb Followill later explained that he does not have anything to complain about with regards to their hectic work schedule.

He would never dream of damaging his guitar, but smashing it was a way of relieving some of his anger and that he takes it as a sign to say that he needs a break.

For now though, a break from touring is not happening anytime soon as the band gear up for another UK festival appearance.

Kings Of Leon are scheduled to play at the Reading & Leeds Festival, which takes place at Reading Richfield Avenue and Leeds Bramham Park over the weekend of August 28-30.

Meanwhile, it was recently revealed that the Reading Festival was going to get louder and bigger in years to come.

The local council will allow an increase in capacity from 78,500 to 82,000 and then an increase of up to 85,000 in 2011. The Reading Festival will also have their maximum noise level increased from 98 decibels to 107 decibels.

The latest acts confirmed for the Reading & Leeds Festival line-up are Kids in Glass Houses and Middleman.

Enter Shikari have announced UK tour dates for this October to coincide with the recent release of their second studio album titled Common Dreads.

The Prodigy have confirmed that they are planning a collaboration with Dizzee Rascal.

Dizzee Rascal has already supported The Prodigy during their UK tour of the album Invaders Must Die in April 2009.

The hotly anticipated third album from the Arctic Monkeys finally has a confirmed title of Humbug.

Writing songs for the new album began towards the end of Summer in 2008 and lead singer Alex Turner revealed that inspiration was taken from the band’s visit to the Latitude Festival.

Alex Turner also said that the songs on the new album were “full on” in line with the sound of Black Sabbath, but that the band also listened to Jimi Hendrix and Cream during the writing process.

When asked if the album’s different sound signified the Arctic Monkeys going towards a new musical direction, band member Matt Helders claimed that this was not necessarily the case.

Matt Helders said that the recording was just what was going on at the time and that the next album after this one could also feature a different sound.

Humbug was recorded in the USA and produced by Josh Homme of Queens of the Stone Age, and James Ford who also worked on the Arctic Monkeys’ last album titled Favourite Worst Nightmare.

The follow up to the 2007 release of Favourite Worst Nightmare, Humbug is due for release on August 24 before the Arctic Monkeys are set to perform at the Reading & Leeds Festival on August 28-29, taking place at Reading Richfield Avenue and Leeds Braham Park.

The second album from Simian Mobile Disco is called Temporary Pleasure and is due for release on August 17.

Radiohead bassist Colin Greenwood has been speaking about the follow up to their seventh studio album In Rainbows, which was released in 2007.

Radiohead started working on their new album last week with producer Nigel Godrich, who has produced every Radiohead album since the 1997 release of OK Computer and is sometimes referred to being the ‘sixth member’ of the band.

Colin Greenwood revealed that there was still a long way to go and that Radiohead were still at the brainstorming phase of the process with all their ideas still up in the air, but everything was going well and sounding great.

Colin Greenwood also said that it was good to be back in the studio, especially working with Nigel Godrich again.

Radiohead will have to take a small break from recording their new album when they headline the main stage of the Reading and Leeds Festival in August this year.

It has recently been confirmed that Universal Music are set to release the official recording of the hugely popular Nirvana performance from the 1992 Reading Festival.

A bootleg copy of performance was previously circulated online and proved to be so popular that Universal Music and the remaining members of Nirvana agreed to release the footage officially.

An unofficial video of the show, ‘Life Takes No Prisoners, will be released on May 4. The official DVD is due to be released in November.

The 2009 Reading Festival line up includes a number of huge acts. Kings of Leon, Arctic Monkeys, Radiohead, Bloc Party, Prodigy and Kaiser Chiefs are all on the bill. Reading Festival sold out within hours of going on sale, but tickets are still available to compare at Tixdaq.

A number of this year’s Reading Festival headliners are on tour in the UK in 2009. Kings of Leon visit London and Manchester in June. Kings of Leon are set to play three massive shows at the London O2 Arena (15, 16 & 30 June) and two shows at the Manchester Evening News Arena (22 & 23 June). Bloc Party are also on tour in 2009.  The Bloc Party tour kicks off at Blackpool Winter Gardens on October 2 and also features performances at the O2 Academy in Sheffield, Leeds and Birmingham. Organiser’s of Lollapalooza 2009 have confirmed Kings of Leon, Depeche Mode, Arctic Monkeys, The Killers, Jane’s Addiction and Beastie Boys as headliners for this years summer festival.

Also included on what promises to be one of the world’s premium summer 2009 line ups are Vampire Weekend, TV On The Radio, Lou Reed, Passion Pit, Glasvegas, White Lies and Chairlift

The Loollapalooza festival is widely regarded as one of the United States premiere festivals for music fans attracting a broad line up mainstream, emerging and cult acts.

The festival which is due to take place in Chicago’s Grant Park in Chicago this coming August 7, 8 and 9 will also host Animal Collective, Band Of Horses, Of Montreal, Ben Folds, Fleet Foxes, Silversun Pickups, Kaiser Chiefs, Crystal Castles and Santigold will also perform as will Lykke Li, Friendly Fires, Bat For Lashes, and new york rockers The Virgins.

British festival fans will have the opportunity to catch many of the acts confirmed to be performing at Lollapalooza 2009, as many embark on solo tours around the UK or better still have confirmed appearances at some of the many music festivals on offer this summer including, V Festival, Reading Festical, Leeds Festival, T in the Park, Bestival, Hard Rock Calling lattitude, Wireless and Isle of Wight Festival.

The hugely popular event which is set to take place between 12 & 14 at Seaclose Park will now also include appearances from The Rifles, The Zombies and Paolo Nutini as well as The Australian Pink Floyd Show and Ultravox who will also perform at the festival.

The Pixies will be kicking off the festival with a rare appearance having only performed intermittently since their 2005 headline shows at Reading and Leeds festivals. Meanwhile Neil Young will bring the festival to a close on the Sunday (June 14). Tickets for the 2009 Isle of Wight Festival are still available from £160.

Other acts including The Prodigy, Basement Jaxx, Stereophonics and Razorlight are among the band’s performing at this year’s Isle Of Wight Festival.

As well as having confirmed an appearance at this years Isle of Wight festival and two other live dates in the UK, Neil Young will perform at the Nottingham Trent FM Arena on June 23 Aberdeen Exhibition Centre the following day (June 24), London’s Had Rock Calling (June 27) and Glastonbury Festival (June 28). Neil Young tickets are still available from £50.

Other acts on the 2009 Isle of Wight line up are also on tour in the UK this year. Stereophonics play a one off special gig at the Royal Albert Hall as part of the 2009 Teenage Cancer Trust campaign. Stereophonics tickets are available from £49. The Prodigy and Basement Jaxx both kick off their UK tour in April and tickets are still available. Prodigy tickets start at £25 and tickets to see Basement Jaxx are available from £20. Razorlight embark on a four night tour in May which includes performances at Buxton Opera House (May 4), Leamington Spa Assembly (May 5), London O2 Arena (May 7) and Manchester Evening News Arena (May 9). Razorlight tickets are available from £26. Meanwhile White Lies, Maximo Park, and The View will all be on tour this summer also with tickets still available to compare.
