The Montreal-based orchestral rock band will play a headline slot on Thursday (June 30th), supported by an all-star line-up of The Vaccines, Beirut and Mumford & Sons. Arcade Fire begun June with an epic headline set at Bonnaroo, and are surely set to repeat that in Hyde Park. That show featured frontman Win Butler singing crowd favourite We Used To Wait from a platform within the audience, and their show earlier in the year at Coachella featured an awe-inspiring stage show of giant balloons, so UK fans travelling to London on Thursday are sure to be delighted. On Saturday, Bon Jovi will headline the main stage. The legendary rockers will play a endurance-testing three hour set, performing hits such as It’s My Life and the epic Livin’ on a Prayer. Fresh from playing a sold-out show at Edinburgh’s Murrayfield stadium, the band, who have racked up 120 million record sales, the band are guaranteed to provide a memorable evening. They are supported by legend Ray Davies, and Imelda May headlines the Pepsi Max Stage.

Sunday’s headline performance comes from pop-superstar Rod Stewart. The 66-year-old has had a career nearly half a century long, seven number-one singles and twenty-seven top-ten albums. Playing hits such as Maggie May, Tonight’s The Night (Gonna Be Alright) and Reason To Believe, fans both young and old are sure to enjoy the star’s classic show. The Killers are headlining Hard Rock Calling this Friday (the 24th) in Hyde Park. The band are playing two warm up gigs at London’s The Scala tonight and tomorrow.

Speaking to Radio 1 lead singer Brendon Flowers, confirmed that “we have about four or five” songs written and ready for the next album “We think they sound strong”.  Although new material wont be debuted at Hard Rock Calling, both Brendon and drummer Ronnie Vannucci have launched solo careers, which could see them both take to the stage on short solo stints this Friday….

The Killers who have had a break from touring and recording, are on the weekends bill with heavy weights Bon Jovi and Rod Stewart, whilst exciting Brendon confesses ” Those first gigs will definitely be never-wracking’.

Rod Stewart is to close the festival on Sunday night. The singer has had seven hit singles and 27 top-ten albums in a career almost 50 years long. Stevie Nicks will act as support for Stewart, while The Lighthouse Family will appear headlining the Pepsi Max stage.

He explained: ‘I’ll be taking him down the same avenue as my other boys, with trains and football. I look forward to Aiden and Alastair growing up together, being best buddies.’

Rod said: “I’m listening to a lot of blues music at the moment because Jeff Beck, my old boss, and I are going to make an album together. So we’re going to do a blues album, update some blues stuff, because he’s a fabulous guitar player, so I’m working on that at the moment.

“It will be tremendous, because we worked together in the 60s, made some landmark albums.”

Leona Lewis will join a long list of the UK’s top stars including Michael Buble and Rod Stewart who will covert he R.E.M track ‘Everybody Hurts’ to raise money for the people of Haiti.

According to the Sun newspaper, R.E.M’s manager Bertis Downs said that the band were “deeply touched” to learn their song has been chosen and are going to waive their royalties from the track.

As well as taking part in the Haiti charity song project, Leona Lewis will be back in the UK later this year for her 2010 tour.

Manchester United face Martin O’Neill’s Aston Villa at Old Trafford on Saturday evening with one aim in mind – three points.

A win for the Red Devils is essential to keep up the pressure on Barclays Premier League leaders Chelsea going into the hectic Christmas schedule and if the Blues slip up at home to Everton earlier in the day then the champions could even snatch top spot.

One sticking point is the injury crisis that has beset their back five with no less than eight defensive players in the Manchester United squad either ruled out or labelled as doubtful for the clash.

On the plus side is the fact that they swept past West Ham 4-0 at Upton Park last weekend with a makeshirt back four and then secured an excellent 3-1 win away at Wolfsburg in the Champions League with a similarly fragile-looking line-up.

United will also welcome back Nemanja Vidic, Wayne Rooney and Dimitar Berbatov to the matchday squad though Michael Owen will be keen to retain his place after his goal-poaching hat-trick in Germany.

To say Manchester United are Aston Villa’s bogey side might be a bit selective as Sir Alex Ferguson has a pretty good record against every Premier League side but with no wins in their last 27 league meetings, recent history is not on the visitor’s side.

However, with United’s injury list reading like a telephone directory O’Neill might just fancy his team’s chances.

Villa are the third highest scorers in the league – behind only Chelsea and Arsenal – and they know a win could propel them up to third place in the table.

That might be wishful thinking but the form of James Milner has been electric and Stewart Downing seems to be finding his feet quickly after a long injury lay-off. The key to a positive result for the midlanders will be to use the ball wisely and economically and to have be disciplined and organised when they cede possession.

With United’s never say die attitude a home win might seem the likeliest result but a share of the points woulkd be no surprise.

Whitney Houston’s involvement at the 37th American Music Awards has just been taken to a whole new level as she is preparing to receive a special award, the International Music Award, at the show on 22nd November in Los Angeles.  This award has only been presented seven times in the event’s 37-year-long history,to artists who in the organisers’ opinion have reached truly global superstar status.  Previous recipients include Michael Jackson, Rod Stewart, Led Zeppelin, Bee Gees, Aerosmith, Madonna and Beyonce Knowles, a list that is perhaps as notable for its omissions as it is for its inclusions.

JLS, who finished in second place behind Alexandra Burke in the 2009 X Factor talent show, clinched the top spot of the official albums chart and managed to fend off the likes of Robbie Williams, Snow Patrol and Rod Stewart to  secure the chart title.

It was expected that Robbie Williams would win last week’s chart race, but JLS outsold the former Take That singer and secured the number one position with their debut album.

JLS will embark on their first ever UK tour early next year. The JLS tour kicks off on January 29 at Margate Winter Gardens. The JLS tour is also due to call at a number of top UK venues including Newcastle City Hall (February 3), Manchester Apollo (February 6) and London HMV Apollo (February 13). The JLS tour finishes with two shows at Belfast Waterfront Hall on March 1 and 2, followed by the new dates on March 4th and 5th in London and Brighton. JLS tickets are still available for all of the shows up to March 2nd on the forthcoming tour.

JLS are also set to join a number of top acts including Lady Gaga, Janet Jackson, Ne-yo, Shakira, Dizzee Rascal and Lily Allen at the 2009 Capital FM Jingle Bell Ball. The Capital Radio JIngle Bell Ball takes place on December 5 and 6 at the London O2 Arena.

Nominations for this year’s Laurence Olivier Awards, the UK’s most prestigious stage awards, were announced yesterday February 3. Surprising to many the Laurence Olivier Awards judging panel excluded David Tennant from the voting despite the fact his brief portrayal of Hamlet was the West End’s most talked-about event of 2008.

A back had injury forced Tennant to pull out of the opening night and limited him to only a handful of appearances at London’s Novello Theatre before the run ended. Nevertheless, critics heaped praise on his performance. The production was recognised in other categories, with Tennant’s co-stars, Patrick Stewart and Oliver Ford Davies, picking up best supporting actor nominations for the roles of Claudius and Polonius respectively.

A spokesman for the Laurence Oliver Awards  explained: ‘Unfortunately, David Tennant could not be considered. There are nine judges and not all of them were able to see him in Hamlet because he didn’t appear in enough performances.’

Following this hugely popular Hamlet production which ended earlier this year, theatregoers who missed out will be keen to get to get hold of tickets. Fear not the latest production of Hamlet staring Hollywood star Jude Law is set to start on June 3 at the Wyndham’s Theatre. Previews begin on May 29 and hundreds of Hamlet tickets are currently available from £60.
