This year’s V Festival will be sure to have a host of the world’s top celebrities in attendance, but few are currently bigger than Pippa Middleton at the moment.

The sister of Kate, Pippa has gained worldwide fame for her good looks and dress on the day of the Royal Wedding. Rumour has it that she will be backstage at this year’s V Festival watching acts such as Eminem, the Arctic Monkeys and Rihanna perform.

Tributes flood in for Amy Winehouse

The music world has paid tribute to Amy Winehouse, after the singer was found dead in her London home yestersday, 23rd July.

The cause of death is unknown, although the Brit and Grammy award-winner had struggled with drink and drug addiction for a number of years, and had recently spent time in rehab. The singer recently cancelled her European tour after being jeered at a show in Serbia, where she appeared too drunk to perform.

Celebrities such as Russell Brand and Ronnie Wood have posted messages online for the musician.

Her former producer, and good friend Mark Ronson said: “She was my musical soulmate and like a sister to me. This is one of the saddest days of my life.”

Comedian and actor Russell Brand posted a statement on his website, saying: “We have lost a beautiful and talented woman.”

TV personality Kelly Osbourne tweeted: “i cant even breath right now im crying so hard i just lost 1 of my best friends. i love you forever Amy & will never forget the real you!”

Rolling Stone Ronnie Wood dedicated his Saturday night show on Absolute Radio to Winehouse. He said: “It’s a very sad loss of a very good friend I spent many great times with.”

Amy Winehouse won widespread acclaim for her solo albums “Frank” and “Back To Black.”

Dappy’s royal fantasy

N-Dubz star Dappy is never far from controversy and the lyrics to his new song will be sure to land him in more tabloid inches today.

The new solo single from Dappy, entitled No Regrets, has lyrics which contend, “I’m a prince and yes Will get the crown, Kate stays in my dungeon when her sister’s round.”

Speaking about the track, the Metro has reported that Dappy said about the song, “I really wanted my first solo single to make a big impact. It’s good to have fun with lyrics and make people sit up and listen.”

Dappy will be back with the rest of N-Dubz as the Camden group will perform at this year’s V Festival alongside acts including The Script, Eminem and Primal Scream.

Lovebox amazes fans who brave the rain

This year’s Lovebox saw some amazing acts perform at London’s Victoria Park to the delight of crowds who suffered slightly with spells of torrential rain.

On the Friday night the Wombats closed things up with a set of rip-roaring indie dance anthems. The Wombats were supported by other acts including Ed Sheeran and Example.

On the Saturday it was the turn of Snoop Dogg who had the crowd eating out of the palm of his hand and his classics such as Gin N’ Juice induced rapturous sing-alongs.

Whilst it was left to the Scissor Sisters to close the weekend up on the Sunday, and they delivered an amazing set of pop fuelled revelry to finish things off in style.

Rap legend Snoop Dogg has recently announced an arena tour this Autumn.

The Wombats and Example close the first day at Lovebox Weekender

Music fans gathered at a sunny Victoria Park in London yesterday for the first day of this year’s Lovebox Weekender. British band The Wombats topped the bill on the first night, performing hits such as Let’s Dance To Joy Division and Moving To New York to thousands of fans. The band were supported by UK rapper Example, as well as the likes of Metronomy, Beardyman and Ed Sheeran.

Friday festival-goers may consider themselves lucky, as the weather in London for the remainder of the weekend is expected to take a turn for the worse.

Today, acts such as The Drums, Katy B and Lykke Li will perform on the main stage, which will also host a headline performance from Snoop Dogg, who will play his classic album Duoggystyle in full.

Scissor Sisters will close the festival tomorrow evening and will be supported by Blondie and Robyn.

Jessie J pulls out of Lovebox

Jessie J has pulled out of Lovebox due to to surgery on her foot. The singer has stated, “Sorry doesn’t feel enough to say, I am devastated for my fans that I know have been waiting to see me and working hard for tickets.”

The foot injury has forced Jessie J to cancel of all her festival appearances this summer.

Despite the cancellation by the enigmatic poster, Lovebox promises to be the biggest and best edition of the festival. Acts over the three days include Example, Ed Sheeran, Snoop Dogg and Scissor Sisters.

The Scissor Sisters are writing songs for Fraggle Rock film

Jake Shears from the Scissor Sisters is writing the music for the film of Fraggle Rock.

The classic 80′s show Fraggle rock featured puppets bursting into song at any given point for any reason – it is a cult show which is sorely missed. Having someone as hedonistic as Jake writing the music will surely bring the characters back to life.

According to the production companies involved ‘we can make music and integral part of the film; as important and as emotionally effective as the filmmaking’ no pressure there then Jake!

The Pierces Start UK Tour Tonight

American sister act The Pierces kick start their UK tour tonight in Edinburg.

The folk pop duo released their album “you & I” at the end of May where it landed them their first British album chart entry and a strong position in at number 4.

‘Glorious’ is the girls current single, evocative of 70s folk.

They have another 7 dates after tonight left on their tour, including two nights at Shepherds Bush’s Bush Hall. The Pierces Tickets and tour dates are available online. The sisters are also performing at Glastonbury.

Scissor Sisters will play new songs at Lovebox

Scissor Sisters have confirmed they will preview their new material at the London festival Lovebox.

One half of the bands singers, Ana Matronic, gossiped that the band would perform at least one new track: ”I’m hoping that we’ll actually be playing a new song that people have not heard at all,”

Jake Shears, the other half of the bands vocals has been working away on his musical and so Ana & the band have been doing the new album without him: ”Jake is out in San Francisco finishing up work on his musical which debuts in just a few weeks. We’re writing without him and he’s going to come back in June and then we are all going to work together and try and put out a new album.”

As ever with the Scissor Sisters, we were left guessing, when Ana hinted that another act may join them on stage for a “collaboration between us and another that is playing that day. We will leave the surprise for July.” owwwwwwww.

Review: One Man, Two Guvnors at the National Theatre

One Man, Two Guvnors is The National’s latest offering. It is Richard Bean’s adaptation of Carlo Goldoni’s eighteenth century play, The Servant of Two Masters. Bean has relocated the Italian comedy to 60s Brighton. It is quite a surprise turn from the National as it is funny, seriously funny, perhaps the funniest production the National has ever staged – it is honestly wet yourself funny.

Starring tv actor, presenter and all round ‘funny man’ James Corden, who plays Francis Henshall, an unemployed musician who decides he can make his fortune by working for not one but two crooks.

The hilarity of the play lies in the way Bean and director Nicholas Hytner have sown the visual and verbal comedy together. There is a familiarity to the rhythm of the gags which sings of British humour. There is a very clever slapstick to it: ”love passes through marriage quicker than s**t through a small dog”.

James Corden can for many be a big pill to swallow. Unapologetically arrogant, smug and with an over inflated ego he’s not someone you can just ‘gloss over’ but it’s important to remember where his roots lie. Nicholas Hytner propelled Corden to stardom in Alan Bennett’s The History Boys at the National Theatre.

Whether returning to the stage or the union with Hytner, Corden is fantastic as Francis. His nonchalance on stage sweeps aside the complex and difficulty of the role. We see Cordens gift of interweaving physical comedy with sensitivity and touching gentleness. He effortlessly involves the audience, inviting them in but still letting the characters hunger and desperation play through.

He returns to his previous form of Gavin and Stacey before stardom polluted his brain and he gave the world monstrosities like Lesbian Vampire Killers (which was named “the worst film of the year” by the Observer) and Horne & Corden. Remember the first Corden and ignore the rest of it, ignore it. He’s is brilliant, the play is brilliant and you would be sorry to miss it.

If you really can’t stomach the thought of encouraging Corden’s ego then go for the rest of the cast, who are equally as mesmerizing in their talent and comic timing: ’Green Wing’s Oliver Chris and Neil Morrissey’s yuppie brother in ‘Rain Man’, West End stalwart Martyn Ellis, Trevor Laird who played the drug dealer in ‘Quadrophenia’ and Jemima Rooper who mans up to play one of the Guvnors, a sister in disguise. All performing fantastic hands.

One Man, Two Guvnors is a play of epic hilarity and enjoyed from start to finish, it really should not be missed.

Kyle Falconer wants to play Judas

The Scottish singer practices songs from the 1971 rock opera on the band’s tour bus, but was once turned down from his dream part by an amateur dramatics society.

Explaining why he likes the Andrew Lloyd Webber and Tim Rice musical – which highlights the struggles between biblical figure Jesus and his betrayer Judas – Kyle told the Daily Record newspaper: “I’ve liked the character of Judas since I was a kid. When I was younger my sister showed me the film of ‘Jesus Christ Superstar’ and I was fascinated.

“I was intrigued by the psychedelic version. I thought Judas made a better point. He had better tunes as well. He is a deranged character and I’d really love to play him.”

The ‘Same Jeans’ hitmaker’s favourite songs from the production include ‘Heaven on their Minds’ and ‘Everything’s all Right’, and despite not winning the part at his first audition, he is adamant he will one day play Judas. “I once went for the part. I was pure perfect too. But they said, ‘no’. It was an amateur production as well. I will still nail it, but I’m not sure about when. Maybe in a few years. I’ll have to wait until it hits London again and get some elocution and dancing lessons .”

Meanwhile Kyle is set to tour the US with The View to promote their latest album, ‘Bread and Circuses’.

Jessie J and Beth Ditto confirmed for Lovebox

Jessie J and Beth Ditto have been confirmed to play this year’s Lovebox festival.

The three-day event, which is held in London’s Victoria Park, is to be headlined by The Wombats, Snoop Dogg and Scissor Sisters.

Jessie J is to play the main stage on Saturday, while Beth Ditto will appear on the Sunday. Other acts added to the bill include Santigold, The Joy Formidable and Cherryghost.

Lovebox is to be held between July 15 and July 17.

Hop Farm Festival adds more names to bill

Graham Coxon, Chrissie Hynde with JP Jones and Manu Chao La Ventura have been added to the bill of this year’s Hop Farm Festival.

They are joined on the card for Saturday July the 2nd at Paddock Wood in Kent by Guillemots, Tim Booth and Damien Dempsey.

Other new acts added for Friday July the 1st at the festival are The Duke Spirit, Kitty Daisy & Lewis and The Secret Sisters.

Previously announced artists over the weekend of the fourth annual Hop Farm Music Festival include Morrissey, Lou Reed, Iggy & The Stooges, Patti Smith, Eagles, Bryan Ferry, The Human League, Ocean Colour Scene, Gang Of Four, Noisettes and The Bluetones.

Hop Farm Festival has previously been headlined by Neil Young and Bob Dylan.

Marianne Faithfull awarded prestigious French honour

Marianne Faithfull has been awarded one of the highest cultural honours in France.

The 64-year-old singer-and-actress – who shot to fame after being discovered by Rolling Stones singer Sir Mick Jagger and guitarist Keith Richards in 1964 – received the Commandeur of L’Ordre des Arts et des Lettres (Commander of the Arts and Letters) from French Minister of Culture and Communication Frederic Mitterrand.

Marianne, who divides her time between Paris and Ireland, accepted the accolade for contributing to the enrichment of the French cultural inheritance at Paris’ Le Theatre du Chatelet, where she was performing in concert.

Hampstead born Faithfull, 64, said: “I am very, very grateful to be so honoured. When a friend, Etienne Daho, was presented with an honour a few years ago I went to the ceremony but never thought I would be a recipient. Since I started coming to Paris in 1964 the French have welcomed me and been very loving.

Marianne, who also co-wrote ‘Sister Morphine’ on Stones’ album ‘Sticky Fingers’ joins the likes of Bob Dylan, Sir Michael Caine and Clint Eastwood, all of whom have been made Commandeur of L’Ordre des Arts et des Lettres in recent years.

Alexandra Burke’s brother claims that he supplies drugs to celebrities

Alexandra Burke’s brother Aaron has reportedly claimed that he supplies drugs to celebrities he has met through his sister.

The Sun reports that the 18-year-old has supplied cocaine to a number of contacts – including a member of a ‘huge boyband’ and a rapper.

Aaron is seen selling the Class A drug in recent video footage obtained by the newspaper.

“I can get the best stuff – as much as you want,” he is heard saying. “I get it for celebrities I’ve met because of my sister.”

The Dixie Chicks have become one of the most famous country acts in the United States, and the trio of Martie Maguire, Emily Robison and Natalie Maines have won thirteen Grammy Awards for their work.

The Midlands Music Festival takes place on the weekend of July 17th – 18th 2010 at Tamworth Castle Pleasure Grounds in Staffordshire, and is a fantastic part of the live music calendar. Each of the two days have a theme: Saturday is called Back To The 80s, while Sunday is labelled The Biggest Chart Acts.

Diversity and Diana Vickers are JLS support acts at Sound City Festival

JLS scored a third UK number one on Sunday – and even got to announce their own track at the top of the charts. The Club Is Alive completed their hat-trick after Beat Again and Everybody In Love had achieved the same feat beforehand, and the popular boyband will be joined by some of their fellow reality graduates live at Sound City Festival in Exeter this Saturday 17th July – and at its sister event at Peterborough Embankment on Sunday 18th July.

Diana Vickers and Britain’s Got Talent winners Diversity will be the support acts at the event in both Escot Park, Exeter – and at Peterborough Embankment.

JLS tickets are available for £50 on Seatwave for the Exeter event, and from £31 from Ticketmaster for Peterborough.

Whoopi Goldberg to perform in Sister Act in London West End

Hollywood actress Whoopi Goldberg is synonymous with Sister Act, having starred as Deloris Van Cartier in the hit 1992 film adaptation, and now she will return to the musical in a new role: she has been cast as Mother Superior in the West End production at the London Palladium.

Goldberg replaces Sheila Hancock from August 10th – 31st 2010, and in doing so will be making her West End debut! Sister Act tickets for those dates will no doubt be hugely popular, and prices currently begin at £17 from SeeTickets.

Murray has just been knocked out of the French Open after a loss to Czech tennis ace Tomáš Berdych in the fourth round, but the Scot will always have a better chance on grass than on clay.

Wimbledon is the oldest and most celebrated tennis competition in the world. The hallowed grass courts of SW19 have been the host to many a classic encounter, and the quality of the game is at an all-time high. The chance to see some of these modern greats in the flesh is one that can hardly be missed.

Crowded House set to play at Isle of Wight festival

Crowded House – along with Hockey and Mr Hudson – have joined the line-up for this year’s Isle Of Wight Festival. The summer event, which takes place between June 11 and 13, will be headlined by The Strokes and Jay-Z with a third act yet to be confirmed – though the festival’s organisers have assured fans they will not be disappointed.

Lily Allen to break from music scene

Lily Allen has confirmed that she is to take a break from her music career for one or two years to concentrate on other projects.

The out-spoken singer had previously announced in September that she would not be renewing her recording contract and now it seems that she will be leaving the music scene temporarily after her gig at the O2 Arena in March 2010.

She will be focussing on her interest in the fashion industry and aims to involve herself in a project with her sister, Sarah, amongst other pursuits.

Lily Allen is currently in the middle of a UK tour and tickets for all remaining tickets are still available.

Anvil added to support act line-up for AC/DC US shows

Anvil, Anthrax and Twisted Sister will support AC/DC at their US shows

Anvil has joined Anthrax and Twisted Sister to be the support acts for AC/DC at their two US shows.

AC/DC will perform at the Massachusetts Gillette Stadium on July 28 and then the New Jersey Giants Stadium on July 31.

AC/DC released their 15th studio album in October 2008 titled Black Ice and fans can expect to see AC/DC perform tracks from this album as well as many more from their back catalogue.

British fans of AC/DC will be pleased to hear that the Australian band will be coming to the UK to perform massive shows at the London Wembley Stadium (June 26) and Glasgow Hampden Park (June 30).

The US support acts for AC/DC are also performing at various venues in the UK.

Anvil will be at the Download Festival at the Derby Donington Park, taking place from June 12-14.

Anthrax will perform at the University of London Student’s Union on June 16 as well as appearing at Sonisphere in Knebworth Park, Hertfordshire which takes place over the weekend of August 1-2.

Lenny Henry brings Othello to West End stage

Lenny Henry is due to take to the West End stage for this first time playing the title role in Shakespeare’s Othello.

The Comedian who made his stage acting debut in February in Othello at Leeds’ West Yorkshire Playhouse, will make his West End debut when the production transfers to Trafalgar Studios 1, where it will have a limited season from September 18 to December 12.

Lenny Henry rose to fame as a cult comedian, making his TV debut in 1975 on the New Faces talent show. He has been a regular television face ever since, appearing in shows including the BBC’s Three of a Kind, Chef!, The Lenny Henry Show, Hope and Gloryand Lenny Henry in Pieces.

Lenny Henry is joined in the cast by Conrad Nelson (as Iago) and Jessica Harris (Desdemona), as well as David Beckford (Duke/Gratiano), Matt Connor (Roderigo), Andy Cryer (Montano), Victoria Gee (Bianca), Geoff Leesley (Brabantio), Chris Pearse (Herald), Simon Holland Roberts (Senator/Lodovico), Sara Poyzer (Emilia) and Richard Standing (Cassio).

West End Theatre fans will welcome the news as they gear up for a summer season which will see long running favorites such as Hairspray, Chicago, Dirty Dancing, Les Miserable, Oliver and Jersey Boys coupled with exciting new productions of Calender Girls, Sister Act, A Street Car Named Desire, Life is a Dream and Red.

Donmar Theatre New Season to feature US TV stars

Dominc West returns to the West End Stage

London’s Donmar Warehouse may not be considered amongst the West End’s elite but the small theatre has exerted its pulling power once again by announcing a new season that includes British actors who have made big names for themselves in the United States.

The Wire’s Dominic West, The Mummy’s Rachel Weisz and Spider-Man baddie Alfred Molina will all appear in plays at the 250-seat Covent Garden theatre during the next year.

Tennessee Williams’s ‘A Streetcar Named Desire will open the Donmar Theatre 2009 season on July 28, following previews from July 23. A Streetcar Named desire will run at the Donmar theatre to October 3rd, directed by Rob Ashford and Starring Hollywood actress Rachel Weisz (Blanche DuBois), Elliot Cowan (Stanley), Jack Ashton (Young Collector), Barnaby Kay (Mitch), Ruth Wilson (Stella).

Following on The Donamar Theatre will host a production of ‘Life is a Dream’, by Pedro Calderon de la Barca, in a new version by Helen Edmundson. Opening October 13, following previews from October 8 – Life is a Dream will run to until November 28. Life is a Dream will be directed by Jonathan Munby and starring US T.V actor Dominic West (Segismundo).

Finally The Donmar Theatre will host the World Première of RED, by John Logan. Opening December 8, following previews from December 3, RED will run to until February 6 2010. Directed by Michael Grandage, Red will Star Alfred Molina (Mark Rothko), Eddie Redmayne (Ken).

Rachel Weisz to star in A Streetcar Named Desire.

It has been announced that Hollywood star Rachel Weisz will be taking to the West End stage this summer in a revival of the Tennessee Williams’ play a Streetcar Named Desire.

The four month stint will mark a third appearance at the Donmar theatre for the award winning actress who has been cast in the role of Blanche Dubois.

Rachel Weisz has previously won a best supporting actress Oscar for The Constant Gardner in 2006 and has also held starring roles in The Mummy, About a Boy and Enemy at the Gates

A Streetcar Named Desire will take to the stage from 23 July – 3 October as part of the new season at the Donmar Theatre.

Oscar winning film Ghost to become West End musical

It has been announced that Lord of the Rings director Matthew Warchus is to bring a new stage version of the Oscar-winning film Ghost to the London’s West End in 2010.

Music and lyrics will be provided by Dave Stewart, formerly of the Eurythmics, and Glen Ballard, while Brice Joel Rubin will adapt the original screenplay for the stage and write the lyrics. Rob Howell has been confirmed as set and costume designer, with musical supervision will be in the hands of Christopher Nightingale and Tesse Gohl.

Released in 1990, Ghost is one of the highest-grossing romantic films ever. The supernatural fantasy will follow Dirty Dancing to become the second film starring Patrick Swayze to be transferred to the London stage. And once Sister Act opens, it will be the second time a film starring Whoopi Goldberg has made the nerve-racking transition.

Further details of this intriguing musical will follow, but one thing is for certain, Ghost will undoubtedly be yet another theatregoer favourite along with other West End theatre tickets such as Blood Brothers, Oliver, The Sound of Music, Mamma Mia, Jersey Boys, Blue Man Group, We Will Rock You, Enjoy and of course the ever popular West End musical Billy Elliot
