Maximo Park to headline Newcastle charity gig

Maximo Park have been announced as headliners for a charity gig in Newcastle in aid of the Teenage Cancer Trust.

The charity concert will take place at the tiny Cluny, which has a capacity of just 300, on January 21st, 2012. All proceeds will go to the Teenage Cancer Trust. Frontman Paul Smith said: “Since we’re hard at work on our fourth album, those who make it down will bear witness to our only Newcastle show this year. We thought it would be good if we could donate any proceeds from the gig to the Teenage Cancer Trust who help people in the RVI [Newcastle's Royal Victoria Infirmary], our local hospital.”

Tickets for the charity gig will only be available on the door from 12pm on the day (January 21st). The band paly a number of festivals this summer, including Ben & Jerry’s Sundae Festivals in Manchester and London, and Bingley Music Live.

Roger Daltrey enjoying UK tour

Roger Daltrey is mid-way through his UK tour, performing the 1969 rock opera Tommy.

The 67-year-old still has ten shows to play across the country, including dates in Winchester, Harrogate, Hull, London and Portsmouth. Once the UK leg of the tour is complete, the former The Who frontman will head to the US.

Tommy is a 1969 album that told a loose story of a blind, dead and dumb boy who ends up leading a messianic movement, and has since sold over 20 million copies. It was made into a film in 1975, and a Broadway adaption was produced in 1993.

Speaking before the tour, Daltrey revealed he hadn’t intended to tour Tommy: “It came about by accident to be honest. I was short of an act to fill the Thursday night slot for the Teenage Cancer Trust nights at the Royal Albert Hall, so I decided I’d do it – and do Tommy - instead. It sold out really quickly, which surprised me, because you’re never quite sure how things will be received, especially after such a passage of time, but we had a great time so we thought, ‘why not tour it?’”

Beady Eye indebted to Japan

The ‘Bring The Light’ band decided to organise the event in London – which will include performances from Primal Scream, Paul Weller and Richard Ashcroft – because they have always been treated with respect in Japan both as members of Oasis and with their latest group.

Speaking ahead of another charity show, for Teenage Cancer Trust at the Royal Albert Hall, last Friday, guitarist Gem Archer said: “There’s a real long relationship. I mean, some of these Japanese fans are old friends now, let alone the people in the record companies and whoever else we’ve met. So then this idea came up of, ‘Why don’t we just get something together and then give all the money to the Red Cross. ”

Archer, who joined Oasis in 2000, was one of four members of Oasis that formed Beady Eye immediately after the bands’ break-up, said the band are due to continue their tour in Japan. “We are meant to be going, I think, in about three weeks, four weeks, and those shows all sold out in the blink of an eye. It’s a small club tour, but they were like bang on it, and they stuck our album at number one.”

The earthquake charity concert will take place at London’s 02 Academy in Brixton on April 3 with all proceeds going to the British Red Cross Japan Tsunami Appeal.

Daltrey pays tribute to John Entwistle at TCT Gig

The Who frontman Roger Daltrey remembered the band’s late bassist John Entwistle in an emotional tribute during his performance of Tommy for the Teenage Cancer Trust at the Royal Albert Hall.

This is the 11th consecutive year that Daltrey has organised the gigs at the South Kensington venue and he took to the stage last night to perform The Who’s ‘Tommy’, as he feels it will be one of the last times that he’d be able to sing it well.

Daltrey also used the opportunity to honour his late The Who bandmate, who died of a heart attack in Las Vegas in 2002.

As he thrilled the crowd by playing songs from the band’s 1969 album, Daltrey told them, “Back in the ’70s we used to love doing harmonies. The Beach Boys, we s**t on them. John always had the loudest voice, he had the voice of an angel. So this is for him and all those guys out there who are sent to terrible places like Afghanistan.”

This year’s Teenage Cancer Trust line-up has been confirmed, with shows set to take place at London’s Royal Albert Hall throughout March. The Who front-man Roger Daltrey will again make an appearance at the charity event he created over ten years ago.

The likes of John Bishop, Squeeze, Biffy Clyro, Beady Eye, Editors and Tinie Tempah have also been announced to headline shows. Teenage Cancer Trust tickets are set to go on general sale this Friday, 11th February for the following dates:

Them Crooked Vultures tickets for one-off Brixton Academy show

Them Crooked Vultures tickets will be available this Friday, 18th June, for the band’s one-off performance at Brixton Academy on July 5th. The band are to play the gig in support of a fund set up to assist Eagles of Death Metal bassist Brian O’Connor, who has been diagnosed with cancer.

The band were a huge success at this year’s Teenage Cancer Trust series and are now set to entertain UK fans once again in 2010.

Them Crooked Vultures is made up of Dave Grohl of the Foo Fighters, Josh Homme from Queens of the Stoneage and Led Zeppelin’s John Paul Jones.

Arctic Monkeys are playing a one-off show in support of Teenage Cancer Trust this month and Tixdaq.com can reveal that there are still a limited number of tickets available. Noel Gallagher plans house of refuge?

Noel Gallagher has applied for planning permission for a summer house in the grounds of his Buckinghamshire home. In the application, the ex-Oasis guitarist said that the building would act as a ‘refuge,’ and added that ‘the summer house is solely for the use of the family for the enjoyment of their gardens.’ According to the Press Association, the application is currently awaiting consideration by Chiltern District Council.

Meanwhile, Noel Gallagher is set to perform on stage for the first time since his split from Oasis last summer. Gallagher is one of the top acts lined up for this year’s Teenage Cancer Trust series, which takes place from March 22-30 at London’s Royal Albert Hall, and also features the likes of The Who, JLS and the Arctic Monkeys.

P Diddy befriends Arctic Monkeys

In nature there are plenty of unlikely partnerships. The Egyptian Plover flies in and out of the Nile Crocodile’s jaws without any danger of ending up as prey, as it picks scraps from its mouth. The bird gets a meal and the crocodile gets its teeth cleaned. Similarly the cleaner fish eats parasites from the bodies of larger fish, and both species benefit.

In humanity an equally unusual friendship has been found. The Arctic Monkeys have announced a friendship with rapper and hip hop mogul P Diddy, who is to teach the band “hip hop ways” according to drummer Matt Helders. This has sparked inevitable rumours of a collaboration.

The Specials reveal UK plan

The Specials have revealed that their upcoming Teenage Cancer Trust show is likely to be their only UK gig this year. Speaking at the NME Awards, drummer John Bradbury said that the show, set to kick off at London’s Royal Albert Hall on March 29, would be the last chance for their UK fans to catch them play. ‘We’re able to combine the wonderful award with a wonderful cause,’ he said. ‘It’s probably the only gig we’ll do in the UK this year, as far as we know.’

The Specials join a fasntastic line-up for this year’s Teenage Cancer Trust series, featuring the likes of The Who, JLS and the Arctic Monkeys. The Specials win Outstanding Contribution to Music at NME Awards

The Specials were honoured with the much coveted Outstanding Contribution to Music prize at last night’s NME awards, and the band wowed the audience with a special performance of their classic tunes Gangsters and Too Much Too Young. The Specials were presented with the award by Blur and Gorillaz frontman Damon Albarn, who called the band “an incredibly important part of his life”.

The Specials are to play a special gig in March to commemorate their 30th anniversary at the Royal Albert Hall. The concert will be in support of Teenage Cancer Trust, and the opening act will be a ska band following in their idols’ footsteps: The King Blues.

The Who’s Roger Daltrey says he would like to record an album with legendary Led Zep member Jimmy Page. The 65-year old singer says he would love the idea of forming a supergroup, especially one that would give him the chance to sing the blues. Daltrey told BBC6 Music: ‘I’d love to do something, I’d love to do an album with Jimmy Page. He needs a singer to drive him. I’m a great blues singer.’

Daltrey is currently busy with preparations for the Teenage Cancer Trust series, which he curated. Following Depeche Mode’s stunning performance at the Royal Albert Hall last week, the Teenage Cancer Trust series is still set for a number of top dates. The full schedule is listed below:

The Who frontman Roger Daltry has revealed that Liam Gallagher almost joined forces with his band for the upcoming Teenage Cancer Trust series. The legendary British rockers are to conclude the charity series on March 30 and Daltry has confirmed that he wanted the former Oasis star to team up with the group. Speaking to Absolute Radio, Daltry said: ‘I actually rung Liam to be part of The Who night, but he’s otherwise engaged.’

Noel Gallagher is already set to play at the charity series, which will also see performances from the likes of JLS, Them Crooked Vultures and the Arctic Monkeys. The Who rock out Super Bowl

The Who performed a selection of their classic hits at the Super Bowl half-time show in Miami last night. Original members Roger Daltrey and Pete Townsend were joined by a backing band to play the likes of ‘Pinball Wizard’ and ‘Who Are You?’ at the Sun Life Stadium.

The Who are set to hit the UK this March with a very special performance at 2010′s Teenage Cancer Trust series. The TCT was curated by Roger Daltry and will feature a number of top artists, including Arctic Monkeys, JLS and Noel Gallagher. Depeche Mode to be supported by The Horrors

The Horrors are in line to support Depeche Mode at their upcoming Royal Albert Hall show.

The gig is the first of the Roger Daltrey-curated Teenage Cancer Trust shows (which will see the likes of JLS, The Who and Noel Gallagher perform) and is the penultimate show of Depeche Mode’s latest UK tour. Depeche Mode’s show at Royal Albert (London) is due to take place on February 17th, before they draw the tour to a close with a performance at the O2 Arena on February 20th.

JLS, Them Crooked Vultures and the Arctic Monkeys are among the artists lined up for the Teenage Cancer Trust gigs at London’s Royal Albert Hall this February and March.

The charity series was dreamt up by The Who’s frontman Roger Daltry and had already seen acts such as Suede and Depeche Mode join the line-up.

Biffy Clyro tour dates announced

Simon Neil with band Biffy Clyro will be touring the UK this Autumn

Biffy Clyro have announced details of their forthcoming UK tour.

Biffy Clyro are currently recording their fifth studio album in Los Angeles with producer Garth Richardson.

Garth Richardson also worked with Biffy Clyro on their last album titled Puzzle, which was released in June 2007.

Fans of Biffy Clyro can expect the new album to be released in September 2009, with songs from the new album expected to feature heavily on the tour that follows.

The Biffy Clyro tour comes to the UK on November 1 at the Dundee Caird Hall followed by two shows at the Glasgow Barrowland (November 2 & 3).

Biffy Clyro will also play at the Nottingham Rock City (November 8), Birmingham O2 Academy (November 9) and the London Brixton O2 Academy (November 12) before bringing the tour to a close at the Southampton Guildhall (November 16).

Biffy Clyro tickets to these new dates will go on general sale on Friday June 19 at 9am.

However, fans of Biffy Clyro who cannot wait until then can catch the Scottish band in action at the V Festival, which takes place at Chelmsford Hylands Park and Shifnal Weston Park over the weekend of August 22-23.

Kasabian hit top spot in the Album Chart

Kasabian topped this week’s official UK albums chart with their latest release, West Ryder Pauper Lunatic Asylum.

Kasabian beat off competition from Little Boots, Bruce Springsteen and Placebo, who also released albums this week.

Just behind at number two was last week’s number one album Sunny Side Up by Paolo Nutini.

Little Boots will be pleased to see her debut album, Hands, reach the number five spot in this week’s album chart.

In at number seven was the Greatest Hits release by Bruce Springsteen and The E Street Band. One place behind was Battle for the Sun by Placebo, their sixth studio album.

These artists and bands are also preparing for their performances and tours at various venues around the UK.

Little Boots will be appearing at various festivals this summer such as the Latitude Festival at the Southwold Henham Park (July 16-19), Field Day at London Victoria Park (August 1), Reading & Leeds Festival at Leeds Bramham Park and Reading Richfield Avenue (August 28-30), and the Bestival 2009 at the Newport Robin Hill Adventure Park (September 11-13).

White Lies, Maximo Park and The View added to Isle of Wight line up

White Lies, Maximo Park, and The View have been added to this years Isle of Wight festival.

The hugely popular event which is set to take place between 12 & 14 at Seaclose Park will now also include appearances from The Rifles, The Zombies and Paolo Nutini as well as The Australian Pink Floyd Show and Ultravox who will also perform at the festival.

The Pixies will be kicking off the festival with a rare appearance having only performed intermittently since their 2005 headline shows at Reading and Leeds festivals. Meanwhile Neil Young will bring the festival to a close on the Sunday (June 14). Tickets for the 2009 Isle of Wight Festival are still available from £160.

Other acts including The Prodigy, Basement Jaxx, Stereophonics and Razorlight are among the band’s performing at this year’s Isle Of Wight Festival.

As well as having confirmed an appearance at this years Isle of Wight festival and two other live dates in the UK, Neil Young will perform at the Nottingham Trent FM Arena on June 23 Aberdeen Exhibition Centre the following day (June 24), London’s Had Rock Calling (June 27) and Glastonbury Festival (June 28). Other acts on the 2009 Isle of Wight line up are also on tour in the UK this year. Stereophonics play a one off special gig at the Royal Albert Hall as part of the 2009 Teenage Cancer Trust campaign. Stereophonics tickets are available from £49. The Prodigy and Basement Jaxx both kick off their UK tour in April and tickets are still available. Prodigy tickets start at £25 and tickets to see Basement Jaxx are available from £20. Razorlight embark on a four night tour in May which includes performances at Buxton Opera House (May 4), Leamington Spa Assembly (May 5), London O2 Arena (May 7) and Manchester Evening News Arena (May 9). Razorlight tickets are available from £26. Meanwhile White Lies, Maximo Park, and The View will all be on tour this summer also with tickets still available to compare.
