Maximo Park to headline Newcastle charity gig

Maximo Park have been announced as headliners for a charity gig in Newcastle in aid of the Teenage Cancer Trust.

The charity concert will take place at the tiny Cluny, which has a capacity of just 300, on January 21st, 2012. All proceeds will go to the Teenage Cancer Trust. Frontman Paul Smith said: “Since we’re hard at work on our fourth album, those who make it down will bear witness to our only Newcastle show this year. We thought it would be good if we could donate any proceeds from the gig to the Teenage Cancer Trust who help people in the RVI [Newcastle's Royal Victoria Infirmary], our local hospital.”

Tickets for the charity gig will only be available on the door from 12pm on the day (January 21st). The band paly a number of festivals this summer, including Ben & Jerry’s Sundae Festivals in Manchester and London, and Bingley Music Live.

Roger Daltrey enjoying UK tour

Roger Daltrey is mid-way through his UK tour, performing the 1969 rock opera Tommy.

The 67-year-old still has ten shows to play across the country, including dates in Winchester, Harrogate, Hull, London and Portsmouth. Once the UK leg of the tour is complete, the former The Who frontman will head to the US.

Tommy is a 1969 album that told a loose story of a blind, dead and dumb boy who ends up leading a messianic movement, and has since sold over 20 million copies. It was made into a film in 1975, and a Broadway adaption was produced in 1993.

Speaking before the tour, Daltrey revealed he hadn’t intended to tour Tommy: “It came about by accident to be honest. I was short of an act to fill the Thursday night slot for the Teenage Cancer Trust nights at the Royal Albert Hall, so I decided I’d do it – and do Tommy - instead. It sold out really quickly, which surprised me, because you’re never quite sure how things will be received, especially after such a passage of time, but we had a great time so we thought, ‘why not tour it?’”

Beady Eye indebted to Japan

The ‘Bring The Light’ band decided to organise the event in London – which will include performances from Primal Scream, Paul Weller and Richard Ashcroft – because they have always been treated with respect in Japan both as members of Oasis and with their latest group.

Speaking ahead of another charity show, for Teenage Cancer Trust at the Royal Albert Hall, last Friday, guitarist Gem Archer said: “There’s a real long relationship. I mean, some of these Japanese fans are old friends now, let alone the people in the record companies and whoever else we’ve met. So then this idea came up of, ‘Why don’t we just get something together and then give all the money to the Red Cross. ”

Archer, who joined Oasis in 2000, was one of four members of Oasis that formed Beady Eye immediately after the bands’ break-up, said the band are due to continue their tour in Japan. “We are meant to be going, I think, in about three weeks, four weeks, and those shows all sold out in the blink of an eye. It’s a small club tour, but they were like bang on it, and they stuck our album at number one.”

The earthquake charity concert will take place at London’s 02 Academy in Brixton on April 3 with all proceeds going to the British Red Cross Japan Tsunami Appeal.

Daltrey pays tribute to John Entwistle at TCT Gig

The Who frontman Roger Daltrey remembered the band’s late bassist John Entwistle in an emotional tribute during his performance of Tommy for the Teenage Cancer Trust at the Royal Albert Hall.

This is the 11th consecutive year that Daltrey has organised the gigs at the South Kensington venue and he took to the stage last night to perform The Who’s ‘Tommy’, as he feels it will be one of the last times that he’d be able to sing it well.

Daltrey also used the opportunity to honour his late The Who bandmate, who died of a heart attack in Las Vegas in 2002.

As he thrilled the crowd by playing songs from the band’s 1969 album, Daltrey told them, “Back in the ’70s we used to love doing harmonies. The Beach Boys, we s**t on them. John always had the loudest voice, he had the voice of an angel. So this is for him and all those guys out there who are sent to terrible places like Afghanistan.”

Beady Eye announce new single

Formed on the back of the Oasis split, Beady Eye’s Liam Gallagher announced that the next single from the band will be ‘Millionaire’, the second track from the bands’ album Different Gear, Still Speeding.

Following from previous single The Roller, which Liam said was ‘a reality check’ after only charting at number 31, Liam revealed the title in an interview with Italian radio programme RTL. The video will be shot in Madrid before the band play at the La Riviera in the Spanish capital.

Beady Eye are currently touring and will play a show for the Teenage Cancer Trust on the 25th of March.

Liam Gallagher backtracks on Oasis claim

Beady Eye frontman Liam Gallagher has played down his own claim that former band Oasis will never reform.

After Beady Eye’s debut album, ‘Different Gear, Still Speeding’, was released yesterday, Gallagher told thequietus.com that he would not rule out an Oasis reunion, if it was done for the right reasons.

When asked if Oasis would reform in the future for money, Gallagher said: “I’m not going to say ‘never’, but at the moment no f****** chance.”

He added: “But it wouldn’t be for money, mate. I like to think that if we did get back together – which we f****** won’t – but if we did then it would be for the fans. It would be for the people and the music and not for f****** money.”

Gallagher went on to say that he believes his fued with brother Noel could come to an end soon, but at the moment they are both working on their own projects

Liam Gallagher attacks new Radiohead album

Beady Eye frontman Liam Gallagher has slammed Radiohead’s new Album, ‘The King of Limbs’, after being less than impressed with what he has heard.

The album name was inspired by a thousand year old tree in Wiltshire’s Savernake Forest, and the album itself contains songs with references to trees.

The former Oasis man told the Queitus, “I like to think that what we do, we do f*cking well. Them writing a song about a f*cking tree? Give me a f*cking break! A thousand year old tree? Go f*ck yourself!”

Gallagher then added: “You’d have thought he’d have written a song about a modern tree or one that was planted last week. You know what I mean?”

Beady Eye’s debut album, ‘Different Gear, Still Speeding’, was released today.

Liam Gallagher claims brother Noel has finished writing debut solo album

Beady Eye frontman Liam Gallagher has said that he expects his brother, Noel, has already written his solo album, and has been working on the project for some time.

On the eve of Beady Eye’s own debut album release, ‘Different Gear, Still Speeding’, Liam played down suggestions that Noel has been too busy to start creating his own album.

Beady Eye contains three former Oasis members in singer Liam Gallagher, guitarist Gem Archer, and Bass player Andy Bell. Oasis split after Noel left the group on August 28th 2009, signalling the end of one of the greatest acts of the last 20 years.

Beady Eye iTunes Festival performance confirmed

Beady Eye are the latest band to be confirmed to perform at this year’s iTunes Festival in London. Over 60 acts will take to the stage at the Roundhouse in Camden throughout July, with Liam Gallagher’s band being the 6th to be announced.

Linkin Park, Adele, Rumer, Duran Duran and White Lies have already been confirmed.

Tinie Tempah Begins UK Tour With BRIT Award Boost

Tinie Tempah is about to set off on his UK tour dates, and will be boosted by his double win at last night’s BRIT Awards.

The rapper performed a live medley of Written In The Stars, Miami 2 Ibiza and Pass Out, and the latter won the gong for Best British Single.

Tinie Tempah also collected the Best British Breakthrough act in recognition for his rapid rise to fame in 2010, and great things are expected from him in 2011.

Liam Gallagher claims his brother will listen to Beady Eye

Beady Eye front-man Liam Gallagher has claimed that his brother Noel will listen to the band’s upcoming album. The brothers have endured a somewhat strained relationship since their former band Oasis split in 2009, and have now gone their separate ways.

Speaking to Vanity Fair, Liam Gallagher explained that his brother would be keen to give his new band a listen. “He’s (Noel) a music lover, so I’m sure he’ll have his ear out,” he said. “I’m sure it’s not gonna make or break his day.”

He then went on to talk about Noel’s solo material, stating “I’ll give a listen to it when it comes out.”

Them Crooked Vultures tickets will be available this Friday, 18th June, for the band’s one-off performance at Brixton Academy on July 5th. The band are to play the gig in support of a fund set up to assist Eagles of Death Metal bassist Brian O’Connor, who has been diagnosed with cancer.

JLS star Aston shaves head!

JLS stars among favourites for Cheryl Cole romance

Bookmakers have tipped JLS duo Aston Merrygold and Martin Humes to romance Cheryle Cole before the year is out. The former X Factor contestants have both been given odds of eight-to-one with Paddy Power to date Cheryl Cole following her separation from Ashley Cole. Noel Gallagher plans house of refuge?

Noel Gallagher has applied for planning permission for a summer house in the grounds of his Buckinghamshire home. In the application, the ex-Oasis guitarist said that the building would act as a ‘refuge,’ and added that ‘the summer house is solely for the use of the family for the enjoyment of their gardens.’ According to the Press Association, the application is currently awaiting consideration by Chiltern District Council.

Meanwhile, Noel Gallagher is set to perform on stage for the first time since his split from Oasis last summer. P Diddy befriends Arctic Monkeys

In humanity an equally unusual friendship has been found. The Arctic Monkeys have announced a friendship with rapper and hip hop mogul P Diddy, who is to teach the band “hip hop ways” according to drummer Matt Helders. This has sparked inevitable rumours of a collaboration.

The Specials reveal UK plan

The Specials have revealed that their upcoming Teenage Cancer Trust show is likely to be their only UK gig this year. Speaking at the NME Awards, drummer John Bradbury said that the show, set to kick off at London’s Royal Albert Hall on March 29, would be the last chance for their UK fans to catch them play. ‘We’re able to combine the wonderful award with a wonderful cause,’ he said. ‘It’s probably the only gig we’ll do in the UK this year, as far as we know.’

The Specials join a fasntastic line-up for this year’s Teenage Cancer Trust series, featuring the likes of The Who, JLS and the Arctic Monkeys. The Specials win Outstanding Contribution to Music at NME Awards

The Specials were honoured with the much coveted Outstanding Contribution to Music prize at last night’s NME awards, and the band wowed the audience with a special performance of their classic tunes Gangsters and Too Much Too Young. The Specials were presented with the award by Blur and Gorillaz frontman Damon Albarn, who called the band “an incredibly important part of his life”.

The Specials are to play a special gig in March to commemorate their 30th anniversary at the Royal Albert Hall. The concert will be in support of Teenage Cancer Trust, and the opening act will be a ska band following in their idols’ footsteps: The King Blues.

The Who’s Roger Daltrey eyes Jimmy Page collaboration

The Who’s Roger Daltrey says he would like to record an album with legendary Led Zep member Jimmy Page. The 65-year old singer says he would love the idea of forming a supergroup, especially one that would give him the chance to sing the blues. Daltrey told BBC6 Music: ‘I’d love to do something, I’d love to do an album with Jimmy Page. He needs a singer to drive him. I’m a great blues singer.’

Suede to play limited tour of small venues

The Brit Pop band Suede have booked two warm-up gigs for their Teenage Cancer Trust concert at the Royal Albert Hall, playing at London 100 Club on March 20th, and Manchester Ritz the following evening. The opportunity to see a band of this stature in an intimate venue does not come along very often and will be available through auction, with proceeds going to the charity. However, a limited number of tickets will go on general sale for the Manchester gig, while tickets for the Royal Albert Hall concert are still available.

The Who frontman Roger Daltry has revealed that Liam Gallagher almost joined forces with his band for the upcoming Teenage Cancer Trust series. The legendary British rockers are to conclude the charity series on March 30 and Daltry has confirmed that he wanted the former Oasis star to team up with the group. Speaking to Absolute Radio, Daltry said: ‘I actually rung Liam to be part of The Who night, but he’s otherwise engaged.’

The Who rock out Super Bowl

Suede set to reform in 2010

Suede have recently confirmed that they will reform for a one-off show in the capital later this year.

The Britpop stars have announced that they are going to perform live at the Royal Albert Hall as part of a series of charity concerts this year. The exact date of the concert has not yet been confirmed, but it is believed that it will take place in March. The Suede show will be part of the 2010 Teenage Cancer Trust series of concerts at the Royal Albert Hall.

Depeche Mode to play Royal Albert Hall

Depeche Mode have recently confirmed that they will perform extra London in February. The band are set to play at the Royal Albert Hall on February 17. The event is part of the 2010 Teenage Cancer Trust concerts which is celebrating its tenth anniversary.

Depeche Mode are currently on the road and will be performing live at some of the UK’s biggest venues this week. Depeche Mode are set to play the London O2 Arena tomorrow (December 16) followed by the MEN Arena on December 18. Depeche Mode will be playing shows in Germany and Paris in January before returning to the UK to perform at the Royal Albert Hall. The Depeche Mode tour draws to a close with one more show at the O2 Arena.

Muse to set to play homecoming shows

Muse are reportedly set to return to the town where the band originally formed to play shows this September. According to a local Devon paper, Muse are set to play two gigs at The Den in Teignmouth.

The paper claim concert promoters SJM have applied for a live music licence from Teignbridge Council. It has been suggested that the concerts will have maximum capacity of 10,000. The reports indicate local residents will receive priority ticketing.

The eagerly anticipated 2009 Muse tour kicks off this November at Sheffield Hallam FM Arena (November 4). The Muse tour also features performances at Liverpool Echo Arena (November 5), Glasgow SECC Arena (November 9) and Birmingham National Indoor Arena (November 10). The Noisettes announce dates for UK tour

The Noisettes are going to embark on a UK tour after the release of their second album Wild Young Hearts, which reached number seven in the UK charts earlier this year.

It seems that the popularity of the Noisettes has stemmed from the single Don’t Upset The Rhythm (Go Baby Go), which featured on an advert for Mazda.

The song became so popular that it reached number two in the UK singles chart, and is their best selling single to date.

The Noisettes tour starts at the Glasgow Garage on October 11 and will stop off at the Manchester Ritz Ballroom (October 20), Oxford O2 Academy (October 22) and the Birmingham O2 Academy (October 23) before closing at the London O2 Shepherds Bush Empire (October 26).

The Kasabian tour kicks off at the Newcastle Metro Radio Arena on November 10 and will be playing ten shows in total.

Kasabian will be stopping off at the major UK arenas such as the Glasgow SECC (November 12), London Wembley Arena (November 14), Nottingham Trent FM Arena (November 18), Birmingham NIA (November 19) and the Manchester Evening News Arena (November 20) before finally drawing the tour to a close at the Sheffield Arena on November 23.

Kasabian fans can expect live performances of songs from their number one album titled West Ryder Pauper Lunatic Asylum.

Biffy Clyro tour dates announced

Simon Neil with band Biffy Clyro will be touring the UK this Autumn

Biffy Clyro have announced details of their forthcoming UK tour.

Biffy Clyro are currently recording their fifth studio album in Los Angeles with producer Garth Richardson.

Garth Richardson also worked with Biffy Clyro on their last album titled Puzzle, which was released in June 2007.

Fans of Biffy Clyro can expect the new album to be released in September 2009, with songs from the new album expected to feature heavily on the tour that follows.

The Biffy Clyro tour comes to the UK on November 1 at the Dundee Caird Hall followed by two shows at the Glasgow Barrowland (November 2 & 3).

Biffy Clyro will also play at the Nottingham Rock City (November 8), Birmingham O2 Academy (November 9) and the London Brixton O2 Academy (November 12) before bringing the tour to a close at the Southampton Guildhall (November 16).

Biffy Clyro tickets to these new dates will go on general sale on Friday June 19 at 9am.

Kasabian hit top spot in the Album Chart

Kasabian topped this week’s official UK albums chart with their latest release, West Ryder Pauper Lunatic Asylum.

Kasabian beat off competition from Little Boots, Bruce Springsteen and Placebo, who also released albums this week.

Just behind at number two was last week’s number one album Sunny Side Up by Paolo Nutini.

Little Boots will be pleased to see her debut album, Hands, reach the number five spot in this week’s album chart.

In at number seven was the Greatest Hits release by Bruce Springsteen and The E Street Band. One place behind was Battle for the Sun by Placebo, their sixth studio album.

These artists and bands are also preparing for their performances and tours at various venues around the UK.

Little Boots will be appearing at various festivals this summer such as the Latitude Festival at the Southwold Henham Park (July 16-19), Field Day at London Victoria Park (August 1), Reading & Leeds Festival at Leeds Bramham Park and Reading Richfield Avenue (August 28-30), and the Bestival 2009 at the Newport Robin Hill Adventure Park (September 11-13).

Blur announce intimate warm-up gigs

Begin from the beginning: Blur kick off reunion tour with two intimate homecoming shows

The Colchesters East Anglian Railway Museum will host Blur’s initial reunion show on June 13, with all proceeds from the gig going to the museums charity and the Aldham Village Hall Restoration Project.

The homecoming will then continue with a return to Alex James and Graham Coxon’s old university, Londons Goldsmiths College on June 22 with proceeds again donated to charity, this time to The Teenage Cancer Trust.

Tickets to these warm up shows have been made available to the Blur fan club this morning (April 17).

White Lies, Maximo Park and The View added to Isle of Wight line up

White Lies, Maximo Park, and The View have been added to this years Isle of Wight festival.

The hugely popular event which is set to take place between 12 & 14 at Seaclose Park will now also include appearances from The Rifles, The Zombies and Paolo Nutini as well as The Australian Pink Floyd Show and Ultravox who will also perform at the festival.

The Pixies will be kicking off the festival with a rare appearance having only performed intermittently since their 2005 headline shows at Reading and Leeds festivals. Meanwhile Neil Young will bring the festival to a close on the Sunday (June 14). Tickets for the 2009 Isle of Wight Festival are still available from £160.

Other acts including The Prodigy, Basement Jaxx, Stereophonics and Razorlight are among the band’s performing at this year’s Isle Of Wight Festival.
