If the paper is to be believed, the rapper was in England not just to watch his wife Beyonce at Glastonbury and tennis at Wimbledon, but also to meet Adele for the collaboration possibilities. A source told the paper, “Jay has been making the most of his trip over here. It’s not often he is overwhelmed by people when he meets them, but Adele was on top form as usual. She talked him under the table. He was chuckling all the way through their chat.”

Speaking of future work together, the source said, “He’s keen to work with her, whether it’s producing or writing together. She was a huge hit in the States and he believes they could make a massive record together.”

Former Wimbledon finalist Nalbandian struggled through a Davis Cup match last weekend as his Argentina team overcame Romania, but he must now receive treatment.

The world number 19 needs surgery for a hernia problem and torn adductor muscle. If his recovery goes to schedule he should be able to take part in the Masters tournaments in Madrid or Rome.

British hopeful Andy Murray has been dealt a blow for the Australian Open 2011 by being seeded 5th, due to Robin Soderling’s win at the Brisbane Open this week.

The number one seed defeat the British number one on three sets in a match that saw both Andy Murray and Rafael Nadal on top form. Rafael Nadal clinched the first set in a dramatic tie-break, but Murray fought back to win the second set 6-3. The third set went down to a tie-break, but Andy Murray was not able to match the pace and power of Rafa. The second of this evening’s semi-finals sees the world number two, Roger Federer, take on Novak Djokovic. The winner will take on Rafael Nadal at the O2 Arena tomorrow afternoon. Tennis fans will be hoping to see the top two seeds go head-to-head once again as they compete for the most prestigious title in tennis outside the four Grand Slams. However, Novak Djokovic has been in good form of late and will be determined to secure his place in the final.

After all, Federer has been in the last seven Wimbledon finals. This is his earliest loss in the competition since 2002, and he will now drop to number 3 in the ATP World Rankings – his lowest position since 2003.

However, Berdych played tremendously and fully deserved his victory. There is now a Czech player in the semi-finals of both the ladies’ and men’s draws, though Petra Kvitová has a tough match against defending champion Serena Williams. Still, she can take inspiration from her compatriot’s shock victory yesterday.

Elsewhere yesterday, Rafael Nadal and Andy Murray both came from a set down to defeat Robin Soderling and Jo-Wilfried Tsonga respectively, and will now meet in a tantalising semi-final tomorrow. Berdych will play Serbian tennis ace Novak Djokovic in the other semi-final, after the world number 3 beat Yen-Hsun Lu of Chinese Taipei in straight sets. Lu beat Andy Roddick in his previous match so could have been quite a banana skin for Djokovic, but the Serb played excellently to close out victory.

With neither Djokovic or Berdych having played in a Wimbledon final before, there will certainly be at least one new finalist at SW19 this year – and if Murray can overcome Nadal, there could be two. Naturally, excitement is building extremely fast as the competition reaches its latter stages, and many newspapers had pictures and headlines referring to Fred Perry this morning. Perry was of course the last British winner of the Wimbledon title back in 1936, but Murray seems wonderfully adept at ignoring the pressure heaped onto him by the UK media.

Last week there was a lot of coverage regarding the prices touts charged for Wimbledon tickets – especially if Murray was playing. A couple were widely reported to have bought tickets to last year’s semi-final between Murray and Roddick for £20,000. Given that currently debenture tickets are available from £1175, there are considerable savings to be made from the street prices.

British number one Murray has not dropped a set in his first three matches, but faces a tougher challenge on Centre Court today. He will take on American fast server Sam Querrey, who won the prestigious grass court tournament at Queens Club just prior to Wimbledon.

Still, Murray’s return is one of the best parts of his game – and arguably the best in the world – and Querrey will have to serve as well as he did in the AEGON Championships to progress, as well as overcome the mental barrier of a partisan crowd in favour of the British player.

With the championship entering its second week, Wimbledon tickets are on sale for all remaining days of the competition. The weather has been quite consistently beautiful, unlike the strangely rainy clay tournament of Roland Garros, and the quality of tennis has repeatedly matched its beauty.

Britain’s number one was unfazed. Murray gave a flawless performance, and played some scintillating tennis to win in straight sets. He will play Gilles Simon in the third round, after the Frenchman was awarded a walkover in his match.

In addition, John Isner and Nicolas Mahut finally finished their incredible record-breaking duel on Court 18. American giant Isner won the fifth set 70-68 – and naturally collapsed on the ground in a mix of incredulity and euphoria. Rafael Nadal suffered a scare when he was pushed to five sets by Robin Haase, but eventually came through to book a third round tie with Germany’s Philipp Petzschner.

Wimbledon tickets are on sale for all remaining days of the tournament, and with all the big guns still in the draw, crowds are sure to see some of the best players showcasing their skills.

Who knows – there could even be a British winner this year!

The 2008 Wimbledon men’s final between Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal has been hailed as the greatest match of all time. 2009 saw an epic match between Andy Murray and Stanislas Wawrinka under the Centre Court roof that became the latest ever finish at Wimbledon, while the final saw Andy Roddick take on Federer. The American lost an epic fifth set 16-14 to finish runner up to the Swiss maestro, but in fact won more games than Federer overall – yet still ended up on the losing side.

This year the excitement has begun early. Roger Federer came back from two sets down to defeat the plucky Colombian Alejandro Falla, while Novak Djokovic and Taylor Dent broke last year’s record for the latest ever finish, as their five setter was decided at 22:58.

Still, the biggest drama was to be found on court 18. John Isner and Nicolas Mahut are still deadlocked in their first round match, and the battle will resume on a third day. The pair have broken multiple records in their incredible tussle, which was called to a halt at 59-59 in the fifth set due to bad light. At ten hours, it is the longest tennis match of all time, and indeed the fifth set of 118 games (so far) has lasted over seven hours!

Furthermore, both players have broken the record for the number of aces in a tennis match, which was previously held by Ivo Karlovic, who hit 78 in a Davis Cup tie for Croatia. Isner has 98, while Mahut has 95.

It is therefore no surprise that Wimbledon tickets continue to be so popular every year, but which player will win is anybody’s guess!

Elsewhere, British number one Andy Murray takes on Finland’s best tennis player Jarkko Nieminen in front of the Queen on Centre Court, so had better practise his bow! Caroline Wozniacki, Chang Kai-Chen, Rafael Nadal and Robin Haase will also perform in front of Britain’s monarch, making her first appearance at SW19 since 1977 – incidentally the last time a British player won the trophy!

LCD Soundsystem, the esteemed New York producer James Murphy’s project, are a fantastic dance-punk act, and have recorded three superb albums. Murphy has elected to retire at the top though, and following the band’s tour, LCD Soundsystem will be no more.

They have just five live UK appearances remaining – all at festivals. The first is in three days’ time at Glastonbury, with Wireless Festival, Reading and Leeds Festivals, and Bestival to follow.

LCD Soundsystem actually headline Wireless Festival on Saturday July 3rd 2010, with 2manydjs, Snoop Dogg and Missy Elliott providing able support – alongside a host of other stars.

Wireless Festival tickets are on sale for all three days of the festival, with Saturday tickets currently trading for £47.50 from SeeTickets.

Still, some of the top players were not quite so fortunate.

Swiss tennis ace Stanislas Wawrinka was seeded to play his compatriot Roger Federer in the fourth round, but like the aforementioned top players, his match went the distance. Wawrinka did not come out on top however, and succumbed 6-7 6-1 2-6 7-6 6-3 to Denis Istomin of Uzbekistan. Other top seed to fall included Croat Marin Cilic and Spaniard Fernando Verdasco.

Federer, Djokovic and Davydenko will all play today, along with former champion Lleyton Hewitt, and will hope for smoother progress in their second round matches.

Yesterday, Britain’s Andy Murray earned himself the chance to play in front of the Queen with a straightforward victory over Czech player Jan Hajek, and has reportedly been practising his bow! On Thursday the Queen makes her first appearance at Wimbledon in 33 years, and given that there was a British winner in 1977 in Virginia Wade, it could be a good omen for the Scot.

If the defending champion crashed out in the first round for only the third time in the tournament’s history, it would be the most remarkable of feats for Falla, who also defeated Juan Martin Del Potro in the US Open first round in 2006 – but that was before the Argentine’s breakthrough to the tennis elite.

As arguably the greatest player of all time, Federer is one of the main reasons Wimbledon tickets are such valued commodities – with the cheapest going for £340. Still, if the world number two loses early on in the tournament, perhaps there could be a British winner on the grass courts of SW19 for the first time in over 70 years.

There will of course be Scottish representation though. British number one Andy Murray is seeded according to his number four ranking, while Jamie Baker was awarded a wildcard thanks to recent improved form – which includes a final appearance in Glasgow earlier this year.

The decision not to award wildcard entries to players such as serial failure Alex Bogdanovic though is understandable. Bogdanovic had been eliminated in the first round on all eight of his previous attempts, and finally the Lawn Tennis Association lost patience. Serbian-born Bogdanovic remains the British number two at world number 161, but lost in qualification – as did Daniel Evans and Josh Goodall.

Even so, perhaps James Ward merited a wildcard after reaching the quarter final in Eastbourne earlier this week.

It looks like British hopes at Wimbledon rest on Andy Murray again, and Wimbledon tickets are available for all days of the tournament for Court One and Centre Court.

McEnroe is now a regular on the seniors circuit and a media commentator, and having won seven majors in his stellar career is well placed to give advice to Murray. Finally, McEnroe hinted that he knew of a change in Murray’s court mentality. For a long time, Murray has played a counter-punching style; his movement and court artistry have long frustrated opponents into errors. McEnroe said he had heard of a move to a more aggressive game just inside the baseline – akin to Nikolay Davydenko, and this could prove a big step towards Andy Murray’s first Grand Slam title.

Roger Federer lost only his second match on grass in seven years in the final of the Gerry Weber Open in Halle – going down in three sets to Australian former world number one Lleyton Hewitt.

In the AEGON Championships at Queens Club, Sam Querrey won an all-American final against Mardy Fish after the big names fell by the wayside early on. Rafael Nadal, Andy Murray, Novak Djokovic, Andy Roddick and Marin Cilic all lost far before anticipated, and will have to improve their grass court game with one week remaining until Wimbledon.

Wimbledon tickets are much sought after every year, and for those unwilling to gamble on their chances in the famous queue, over 1000 tickets are still on sale online.

The lowest priced are available for £330 from Seatwave for the first round, with prices rising to between £2809 and £4999 for Wimbledon men’s final tickets.

Which players will actually make it to the final though is anyone’s guess.

Wimbledon Men’s Final tickets are the most expensive at between £2445 and £4999, but because the previous two finals – Roger Federer against Rafael Nadal and Andy Roddick respectively – have been heralded as the most breathtaking matches in tennis history, the price is little surprise.

Wimbledon Ladies’ Final tickets are substantially cheaper. Like Roger Federer, Venus and Serena Williams are viewed as two of the greatest players of all time, while Justine Henin reportedly came out of retirement purely because Wimbledon was the one Grand Slam missing from her glittering C.V. Even so, Wimbledon Ladies’ Final tickets are on sale between £669 and £3745.

Of course, earlier rounds are inevitably less expensive, and Wimbledon – like the World Cup and the Olympics – is one of those sporting events that everyone has to be part of once in their life.

Whether Murray enjoys a successful tournament or not, players of the calibre of world number one Rafael Nadal, Novak Djokovic and Andy Roddick are certainly worth seeing, and Queens tickets are still on sale for all remaining days of the tournament – including the final.

There are over 500 Queens Final tickets available, with prices beginning at £104 from Ticketmaster subsidiary GetMeIn. Top of the range tickets are also on sale for £528 – also from GetMeIn – with an excellent view from the South Stand similar to that broadcast on television.

As the first British man to win at Queens Club since Bunny Austin in 1938, the whole country will hope that Andy Murray can equal Fred Perry’s feat from 1936 – and win Wimbledon.

Before that though, he has a trophy to defend.

Who would have expected Robin Söderling to beat Roger Federer in four sets – ending a 12-match losing streak against the Swiss maestro in the process?

Who would have expected Jurgen Melzer to make it to the semi-finals at Roland Garros, having never progressed beyond the third round of a Grand Slam before in his career?

It all bodes well for the next tournament on the grass courts of Queens Club.

In SW19, crowd pressure and mental fatigue appeared to get to Gasquet, but at Roland Garros, his loss was more down to physical condition.

Clay is not Murray’s favourite surface, but he did reach the quarter final in Paris last year. After the climax of the French Open, the grass court season begins, and the Scot will attempt to defend his title at the AEGON Championships at Queens in a top class field. Queens Club will host some of the very best in the game, including Murray, Rafael Nadal, Novak Djokovic, Fernando Verdasco, Jo-Wilfried Tsonga and Marin Cilic.

Roger Federer has an innate ability to produce his best form in the big tournaments, which explains his outstanding record of 23 consecutive Grand Slam semi-finals. His losses to Tomas Berdych, Ernests Gulbis, and Alberto Montañés in recent competitions are highly unlikely to be replicated in the French Open later this month, and the fast courts at Roland Garros – and the current ATP Madrid Masters – will aid the resurrection of his form.

Andy Murray will do well to do the same on his weakest surface, but Djokovic has pulled out of Madrid citing breathing difficulties caused by allergies. Del Potro meanwhile is out for the long term with a wrist injury.
