In an interview with the NME, lead singer Jonathan Pierce said: “We might be going back to completely electronic music. But I don’t want to make a big degree because we might end up breaking my own rules and end up looking like a fool. I wouldn’t mind starting an Italo disco album or a cold wave one.”

The Drums will be supporting the release of their new record by touring the UK this Autumn.

The gigs take place at Manchester Academy on September 6th, and London’s O2 Academy Brixton on September 16th. tUnE-yArDs are a fusion of experimental, lo-fi and R&B music, fronted by Merrill Garbus. Gigwise reports that Anderson said of the new record, “it’s restless, noisy and dynamic. Electric guitars, bass, drums and vocals – no flute players, no strings, no gimmicks, just passion”.

The new record will be released on September 26th and is entitled Black Rainbows. To support the new album, Brett Anderson will also be playing shows at Manchester’s Club Academy on October 11th and London’s KOKO on October 12th.

Friday festival-goers may consider themselves lucky, as the weather in London for the remainder of the weekend is expected to take a turn for the worse.

Today, acts such as The Drums, Katy B and Lykke Li will perform on the main stage, which will also host a headline performance from Snoop Dogg, who will play his classic album Duoggystyle in full.

Scissor Sisters will close the festival tomorrow evening and will be supported by Blondie and Robyn.

Now they are back once more and it has been revealed today that their new album, Portamento, will be released on September 12th. The first single from the new album is to be called Money and will be out on September 5th.

The Icelandic singer is set to play the headline slot on the Sunday night (September 11th) of the weekend. She joins headliners Pendulum (Friday 9th) and The Cure (Saturday 10th).

Bestival’s official blog reveals that her headline set will include “an award-winning Icelandic choir and will feature a range of specially conceived and crafted instruments, among them a bespoke pipe organ that accepts digital information, making it a sure fire guarantee that Bestivalites are in for a proper treat when it comes to this year’s closing set on the main stage.”

The New York band admitted the problems during an interview with Dirrtymusic.com, with singer Jonathan Pierce revealing: “We have faced trials. The guitarist left, there were a lot of shouting matches. Two weeks ago, we came very close to splitting. But that has nourished the album, I think.”

The band’s second album, Portamento, has yet to be given a release date. The band are set to play London’s Lovebox Weekender festival on July 16th, and Bestival in September.

The Brooklyn band posted the video onto their official website, and it can be seen here. The short film shows them in the studio recording for the as-of-yet untitled follow-up to 2010 debut The Drums. The video however is titled Portamento and features the word Portamento flashing up on screen, fuelling rumours that it could be the title of the new album.

Latitude Festival arrives in Suffolk on July 15th, for three days of incredible music in one of the most relaxed festivals in the country. The weekend will see headline performances from The National (Friday 15th), Paolo Nutini (Saturday 16th) and Suede (Sunday 17th). Also appearing on the Obelisk Arena are Bright Eyes, Paloma Faith, The Cribs, My Morning Jacket, Glasvegas and Hurts. Headlining The Word Arena are Bombay Bicycle Club (15th), Foals (16th) and Eels (17th), with The Vaccines, Echo & The Bunnymen and Lykke Li also appearing.

On August 20th, V Festival kicks off in Chelmsford (Hylands Park) and Staffordshire (Weston Park). Headlining the two-day event are Eminem and Arctic Monkeys, with support from chart favourites such as Rihanna, Plan B, The Script, Kaiser Chiefs, Manic Street Preachers and Lostprophets. Pendulum and Dizzee Rascal headline the 4Music Stage, with Duran Duran and Chase and Status set to top the bill on The Arena Stage. Both Reading Festival and Leeds Festival take place over the August bank holiday weekend, Friday 26th – Sunday 28th. Taking the number four spot, the Justin Vernon-led band’s second album Bon Iver beat the likes of Adele and Arctic Monkeys, and Take That’s hit album Progress resting just one place above. Bon Iver’s long-awaited second record was released on June 21st, and marks a significant departure from the first album’s simple, brooding guitar, with eighties-style piano, drums and saxophones making an appearance.

The band are set to tour the UK this autumn, starting on October 19th.

Taking place in London’s Victoria Park and founded by Groove Armada, the weekend music festival has been labelled “London’s most convincing festival” by NME, and although only running since 2002, has become a firm favourite within the young festival-goers scene.

Headlining the Gaymers Stage on Friday (July 15th) are The Wombats, with support coming from Example and Metronomy. Ed Banger headlines the Relentless Energy Drink Arena. Also appearing on Friday are Ms Dynamite, Vice and Aeroplane.

Saturday (July 16th) features headliner Snoop Dogg take to the main stage, supported by Katy B, Santigold (formerly Santogold) and Jessie J. The Drums, Lykke Li and The Joy Formidable appear on The Gaymers Stage, with Groove Armada set to headline the Relentless Energy Drink Arena.

There are just 1000 sales between Bon Iver’s long-awaited second album, Bon Iver, and Lady Gaga’s Born This Way. Take That’s Progress and both of Adele’s albums 19 and 21 all remain in the top ten once more. Bon Iver, fronted by Justin Vernon, released their second album on June 21st. It represents a new musical direction for the band, with saxophones and eighties drums creating a more rounded, layered sound, departing from the raw, simple structure of the first album For Emma, Forever Ago.

Bon Iver are touring the UK this autumn, beginning with Manchester’s O2 Apollo on October 19th.

Having started writing and recording in November, with Noel Gallagher rumoured to have been playing drums on one track, Weller told XFM in an interview backstage at the Japan Disaster Benefit that his new album is ready for a release.

“The album is all ready to go. Maybe this year, hopefully,” Weller said.

Weller also enthused about stretching himself on this effort. “It seems to be taking its own character this time. Sonically it’s still pushing things, but still with good melodies, and lyrically I’m trying to stretch myself. I’ve tried to make the words more impressionistic, tried to write in different ways.

“As much as I’m going to change the music, I want to be able to change the way I write words as well.”

His last two albums have been critically acclaimed by both fans and critics alike and Weller’s finger is firmly on the pulse. Weller’s only live dates this year are support slots for the Kings of Leon.

Alexx – who has been playing drums since he was eight – had wanted to meet Ringo for several years, and last year his family approached the charity to try and grant him his wish.

His father Charles Kipp said: “Alexx came to me one morning and he said, ‘Dad, I had a dream last night and I met Ringo.’

“This was before we knew it was going to happen. About a week later we got the call. I told him, ‘It looks like your dream came true.’ ”

Alexx’s next goal is to learn the Beatles hit ‘I Am The Walrus’ and he was given some advice by Ringo.

According to the Los Angeles Times newspaper, Ringo told him: “I get the easy bit. I come, I say hi, we hang out, we have a bit of fun.

“In the band I was in, we knew when we’d done the take, because it just feels good. It’s like golf: When you hit that ball right, you know. You feel it – you feel the connection. And connecting is good.”

The musical legend also spoke about his ongoing involvement with the Make-A-Wish Foundation – who accept requests from children with life-threatening illnesses and try and make them happen – admitting it gives him a different perspective on life.

He said: “It’s huge. It puts you in your place. You think you’ve got a cold – you’re all, ‘Oh, what about me?’ Then you help these kids. You think of the families. I’ve got children too, and it’s got to be hard.”

Ringo has designed a T-shirt which will be sold throughout Hard Rock International locations, with proceeds benefiting his Lotus Foundation, which directly supports Make-A-Wish.

Speaking of the track ‘Games’, an synthed up affair reminiscent of  the 1980s, he said: “I think I was most comfortable working within the limitations of two guitars, bass, drums and vocal. There are some new sonic elements, which maybe I was resistant to at first. I can stress out about how we’re going to do stuff live. Are we going to get a keyboard player? I don’t know if I want to be in that band.”

The group has previously spoken about the difficulties of recording ‘Angles’, with singer Julian Casablancas absent for parts of the recording process, and also said they plan to follow up the album quickly, with plans to start recording as early as April – a move Nick supports.

“We started in January 2010. We were in a big, expensive studio for two and a half months. We spent a lot of money and recorded an album, but we kind of scrapped it and started over by ourselves. In future I’d like to make albums faster.”

The Strokes will headline Reading and Leeds this summer and entered the charts last week at number three with their new album.

“I was so thankful to be alive,” he said. “My left hand was completely numb and there was a time when [the doctors] were even talking about amputating my foot. All I wanted to do was play the drums and get the hell out of hospital.”

The drummer credits his solo album as paving his road to recovery.

“I’d already recorded two tracks [for the album] before the crash, so once my hands healed and I could grip stuff, I just had to finish it,” he explained. “For a long time I didn’t want to leave [my home] but [the album] got me out of my pad and into the studio.”
