XFM Winter Wonderland line-up confirmed

The line-up for this year’s XFM Winter Wonderland has been confirmed. The shows will take place at Manchester O2 Apollo on Monday December 5th and London O2 Brixton Academy on Wednesday December 14th.

Chase and Status will headline the Manchester gig, and will be supported by the likes of Nero, Ed Sheeran, The Big Pink and Fenech-Soler.

The Kaiser Chiefs will top the bill at the London show, treating fans to a ‘Greatest Hits’ set, and will be supported by The Maccabees and The Horrors, with another special guest yet to be announced.

Q Awards 2011 nominations revealed

The nominations for this year’s Q Awards have been revealed, with acts such as Arctic Monkeys and Jessie J securing multiple nominations. The winners will be named on October 24th at The Grosvenor House Hotel in London.

British singer Adele leads the way with three nominations in total, including Best Female Artists. The news comes as the September Adele tour resumed this week, following the singer’s illness.

The full list of stage times has been confirmed for next weekend’s Leeds Festival.

The three-day event is held at Bramham Park from Friday 26th – Sunday 28th August. Friday will see Muse headline the main stage, whilst on Saturday My Chemical Romance take the top spot, and Sunday sees a joint headline position shared by The Strokes and Pulp.

Taking place from this Friday (August 26th) to Sunday (August 28th) and will see headline performances from My Chemical Romance, The Strokes and Pulp, and Muse will close the festival. The festival has music kicking off from 11.00-11.30 each day.

Watch the Mercury Music Prize shortlist announcement live – Video

This year’s shortlist for the highly coveted Mercury Music Prize will be announced today at 11:30 (July 19th). The shortlist will be of 12 acts who the critics believe deserve a chance of winning the award which in the past has gone to such artists as Antony and the Johnsons, Dizzie Rascal and the XX.

The award always seems to be a major step for the career of anyone who wins it, the XX in particularly did exceptionally well out of their Mercury victory last year. Favourites to be nominated this year are PJ Harvey, James Blake, The Horrors and the Vaccines, however the award always puts forward unknown acts from leftfield.

Horrors album does well in mid-week chart

Despite achieving immediate positive critical reviews, no-one, especially not the band themselves, expected the Horrors album to do so well in the charts this week.

It appears as though the band’s third album, Skying, is currently at number 3 in the BBC midweek chart. For a band who have embraced the alternative with such aplomb, their achievement in the mid week chart is testament to the substance that lies behind the dark facade of the Southend band.

The success comes following their release of the album as a free stream to fans, a week before the album was physically available for sale. They have thus perhaps jumped onto the free internet release bandwagon which does not seem to deter album sales in many cases.

Currently holding the number 2 spot in the UK charts is Beyonce’s 4, and they both fall behind Adele’s 21, which seems unmovable at the pole position at present.

The Horrors will be touring the UK this Autumn, and tickets for the forthcoming Horrors tour are available online now.

The Horrors to play album launch show tonight

It has been revealed that The Horrors will play an album launch show tonight (July 11th) at the Shackwell Arms in London.

The show coincides with the release of their third album Skying which will be out on the shelves today.

The initial reception from first listens to the record, which was put up as a free stream in full last week, have been generally very positive. The band also played a set at this year’s Glastonbury which was also received very well.

Tonight entry to their show will be on a first come first served basis and the doors will be open at 8pm, but get there early to avoid disappointment.

The Horrors are also touring the UK this October.

The Horrors have decided to put their third album ‘Skying’ on their website as a free stream to fans. The move comes in coherence with the post In Rainbows world which sees more and more bands keen to share their new material online for fans before physical release.

The band have had a rather up and down career thus far after their initial hit ‘count in fives’ propelled them onto the British indie radar. Many however labelled the band as having all style and no meaningful substance and they were dropped from their label.

The new album sees a change of direction from the band as they adopt a more ethereal sound heavily reliant upon synth. You can stream and listen to it for free here.

The Black Eyed Peas prepare for Wireless festival headline set

The Black Eyed Peas are set to stun crowds in Hyde Park this weekend when they headline Wireless Festival on Friday.

Headlining an all star line-up on Friday (July 1st), The Black Eyed Peas appear last on the main stage after performances from Example, Bruno Mars, Tinie Tempah and Plan B. Also on the first day of the festival, David Guetta headlines the Pepsi Max Stage while Chipmunk tops the bill on the Barclaycard Unwind Stage.

Saturday (July 2nd) sees a main stage headline set from dance superstars The Chemical Brothers. Also present on the main stage will be Katy B, Ke$ha, Chromeo, The Streets and Chase & Status. Electronic artist Aphex Twin headlines the Pepsi Max Stage with Justin Robertson headlining the Barclaycard Unwind Stage.

This Sunday (July 3rd), see reformed superstars Pulp close the festival on the main stage. Supporting them will be Devotchka, Metronomy, The Horrors, The Hives, TV On The Radio and Grace Jones. Math-rockers Foals headline the Pepsi Max Stage, while Funeral Party will close the Barclaycard Unwind Stage.

The Horrors’ Cat’s Eyes debut at Latitude Festival

The Horrors’ frontman Faris Badwan makes his festival debut with his new band Cat’s Eyes at Latitude Festival.

Cat’s Eyes is the creation of Faris Badwan from The Horrors and Canadian opera singer Rachel Zeffira. The duo released their debut album in April and will play their first festival at Latitude in July.

Cat’s Eyes are new additions along with James Blake and Alabama 3. They join headliners Suede, The National and Paolo Nutini.

Brother, Tom Vek and Anna Calvi join The Horrors at Reading Festival

The bands have been added to the line up for the Reading and Leeds Festival in August.

They will perform on the Festival Republic stage which is headlined by the Horrors, The Midnight Beast and Pete Doherty.

Tom Vek released his new album ‘Leisure Seizure’ last week and Brother recently announced a September UK Tour. The Horrors also confirmed a UK tour for October and Pete Doherty is currently in jail with his fingers crossed he’ll be out in time for the gigs.

The Horrors have released dates for their UK tour starting in October.

The band have been diligently working away on their third album ‘Skying’ which is set for release in July.

Their single ‘Still Life’ which echos Simple Minds in sound and has a psychedelic video has given us a taste of what’s to come. Guitar riffs with a gentle touch…

The band are currently preparing for some intimate warm up gigs be fore getting stuck into the festival season and then kick starting their 14 date tour in October.

The Horrors add new dates to summer tour

The Horrors have announced details of three new UK dates in June.

The band are currentlyin the studio recording their third album and will play gigs in Glasgow, Manchester and London.

The band were also confirmed for August’s Reading and Leeds Festivals, after the line-up was announced as tickets went on sale on the 21st of March.

They are also scheduled to headline Field Day in London and play the Wireless Festival in the capital in July, in what will be a busy summer for the band.

Latitude Festival has released details of many of the acts to play at the 2010 event, to take place in Henham Park, near Southwold in Suffolk from Thursday 15th July until Sunday 18th July 2010. The event will be headlined by Florence and the Machine, Belle and Sebastian and Vampire Weekend, with other bands such as Empire Of The Sun, The Maccabees, Rodrigo Y Gabriela, Charlotte Gainsbourg, The National, The Horrors, The xx and Grizzly Bear to perform.

Many more will be announced in the coming weeks, but that lineup should be enough to prompt a mad rush for tickets, which are on sale now!

Muse to record London Olympics Anthem?

Muse and The Horrors have both expressed an interest in recording the official anthem for the 2012 Olympic Games in London. Muse drummer Dominic Howard said that the band were keen to get involved, especially since the event is on their home turf. ‘Since it’s here in London, sure,’ he said. ‘We’ve got a new song, so maybe we could use that.’

The Horrors’ Tom Cowan also revealed that he’d be interested in putting forward the appropriately-titled ‘Olympian’ for the Games. Speaking to BBC6 Music, he said the track would be ‘perfect’ for the event, adding: ‘It’s an electronic piece and it’s very evocative of the human frame and very athletic, but also graceful. It would be a lot better than whatever they choose, that’s for sure.’

Muse are set to perform three huge live shows in the UK this September. Muse will play one show at the Lancashire County Cricket Club in Manchester (September 4) before two dates at Wembley Stadium (Sep 10 & 11). Muse tickets are available to compare through Tixdaq.com.

Depeche Mode to be supported by The Horrors

The Horrors are in line to support Depeche Mode at their upcoming Royal Albert Hall show.

The gig is the first of the Roger Daltrey-curated Teenage Cancer Trust shows (which will see the likes of JLS, The Who and Noel Gallagher perform) and is the penultimate show of Depeche Mode’s latest UK tour. Depeche Mode’s show at Royal Albert (London) is due to take place on February 17th, before they draw the tour to a close with a performance at the O2 Arena on February 20th.

The Horrors kicked off their UK tour earlier this month and the shows have been very well received by fans across the UK.

Barclaycard Mercury Prize winner to be announced today

After Tixdaq revealed who made the shortlist for the Barclaycard Mercury Prize 2009, the winner of the accolade and £20,000 will be announced at an awards ceremony at the London Grosvenor House Hotel later this evening. Tonight will also see all twelve artists nominated performing at the awards ceremony for the first time since the awards’ inception in 1992.

It seems Lungs by Florence and the Machine is one of the bookmakers’ favourites to take home the accolade. Florence Welch claims that she is so nervous about tonight’s awards ceremony that she is considering hiding in the toilets until the winner is announced, saying that it is sitting through the ceremony that is scaring her the most.

Fellow nominee Elly Jackson, singer from La Roux, also thinks Florence and the Machine is the favourite to win together with the self-titled debut album from the Friendly Fires. Elly Jackson says that she was not expecting to win and was looking forward to her live performance as well as the live performances of her fellow nominees.

She also said that even if La Roux do pick up the gong, there will be no time to celebrate as they have to jet off to France soon after the show. It seems the Barclaycard Mercury Prize 2008 winners Elbow agree with La Roux’s Elly Jackson, having said they think Friendly Fires will win take the crown from them this year.

Speech Debelle has talked up her own chances of winning the Barclaycard Mercury Prize with her album Speech Therapy. She claims that if it was a popularity contest, she would lose but will have a very good chance if the decision was based on the reasons why she was nominated for the shortlist in the first place.

Speech Debelle has also described her album as being different to what is always heard on the radio and is confident of winning the top prize, despite saying she does not have a speech prepared.

Also in the running for the Barclaycard Mercury Prize is Kasabian with the album West Ryder Pauper Lunatic Asylum. Kasabian guitarist Serge Pizzorno claims that the band might donate the money to charity if they win the award, unless the money gets given to the barman, that is.

Many of this year’s front runners to lift the Barclaycard Mercury Prize crown are also on tour playing at many venues across the UK.

Florence and the Machine, already performing shows throughout September, has just announced details of new tour dates for the UK and Ireland scheduled for December 2009. The new Florence and the Machine tour dates include the Glasgow O2 Academy on December 9 as well as the Manchester Apollo (December 10), Lincoln Engine Shed (December 11) and the London Brixton Academy (December 13).

The Kasabian tour begins at the Newcastle Metro Radio Arena on November 10 and will also stop off for two dates at the London Wembley Arena (November 14 & 15), the Manchester Evening News Arena (November 20) and ending the tour at the Sheffield Hallam FM Arena (November 23).

Also playing UK venues throughout November is La Roux, like the Leeds University Union on November 13 as well as the Birmingham O2 Academy (November 18), the Southampton Guildhall (November 24) and two dates at the London O2 Shepherds Bush Empire (November 25 & 26).

Horrors’ club night returns

It has been recently revealed that The Horrors have confirmed that their popular London club night, The Cave Club, will return to the Buffalo Bar, Islington. The night returns after a five month absence and will feature DJ sets from The Horrors band members. The show will take place on August 15th.

As well as DJ performances from the band, the night will also feature a debut live performance from Welsh band, The Infamous.

The Horrors have had a successful 2009 following a series of sold out concerts as well as a Mercury Music Prize nomination for their latest album, Primary Colours.

Horrors fans still have a chance to see the band live in concert this year as the band bring their summer to a close with shows at Reading and Leeds Festival. The 2009 Reading and Leeds Festival is set to take place on August and will include performances from the likes of Arctic Monkeys, The Prodigy, Kings of Leon and Radiohead. Barclaycard Music Prize nominees announced

Bat For Lashes is one of twelve nominees for the Barclaycard Music Prize 2009

This year, many female solo artists made the shortlist for the Barclaycard Music Prize, rewarding the best album, and seven out of the twelve albums nominated are debut albums. Fans can catch the majority of these artists in action live as they tour the UK.

Brighton-based Bat For Lashes (real name Natasha Khan) will be touring her second studio album Two Suns, starting at the Bournemouth Opera House (October 1) and will also play two dates at the London Roundhouse (October 5 & 6), the Liverpool O2 Academy (October 10) and Manchester Academy (October 14) before closing her tour at the Edinburgh HMV Picture House (October 20).

Florence and the Machine (fronted by Florence Welch) released their debut album Lungs earlier this month and reached number two in the charts behind Micheal Jackson. The Florence and the Machine tour begins at the Bristol O2 Academy (September 17) and stops off at the Birmingham O2 Academy (September 20) before ending the tour with three dates at the London O2 Shepherds Bush Empire (September 27, 28 & 29).

The self-titled debut album from La Roux, with singer Elly Jackson, reached number two in the album chart and La Roux will be in action at London Scala on September 10 before resuming touring duties on November 13 at Leeds University, also playing at the Manchester Warehouse Project (November 21) as well as two dates at the London O2 Shepherds Bush Empire (November 25 & 26).

The number one album from Kasabian called West Ryder Pauper Lunatic Asylum is another Barclaycard Music Prize nominee touring the UK later this year. Kasabian will play two dates at the Wolverhampton Civic Hall (August 24 & 25) before touring throughout November starting at the Newcastle Metro Radio Arena (November 10), playing two dates at the London Wembley Arena (November 14 & 15) and their last scheduled date at the Sheffield Hallam FM Arena (November 23).

Another album nominated for the Barclaycard Mercury Prize is the self-titled debut album from Glasvegas, who will be supporting U2 on their 360° tour at the London Wembley Stadium (August 15), Glasgow Hampden Park (August 18) and Cardiff Millennium Stadium (August 22).

Other artists nominated for the Barclaycard Music Prize are Speech Debelle with Speech Therapy, Lisa Hannigan with Sea Sew, The Horrors with Primary Colours, The Invisible with their self-titled debut album, Led Bib with Sensible Shoes, Sweet Billy Pilgrim with Twice Born Man, and Friendly Fires with their self-titled debut album.

New acts for Latitude Festival and End of the Road Festival

Thom Yorke of Radiohead will perform a special solo set at Latitude Festival

New acts have been announced to join the line up of the Latitude Festival and the End of the Road Festival.

Added to the line up of the Latitude Festival are Of Montreal, Maps, Lykke Li, Fever Ray, Sky Larkin and St Vincent.

Thom Yorke from Radiohead will also perform a special solo set.

The headline acts for the Latitude Festival are Pet Shop Boys, Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds, and Grace Jones.

Added to the line up of the End of the Road Festival are The Horrors, Brakes, Loney Dear, Vetiver, Blitzen Trapper, The Duke and The King, Shearwater and Wye Oke.

The headline acts already confirmed for the End of the Road Festival are Explosions in the Sky and Fleet Foxes.

The Latitude Festival will be at the Southwold Henham Park taking place from July 16-19.

The End of the Road Festival is taking place at the Salisbury Larmer Tree Gardens from September 11-13.
