Josh Homme plays better with booze

Rock heavyweight Josh Hommeclaims his performance on stage always improves when he’s had a drink.

In an interview with Q Magazine, Homme said “Alcohol has made my performance better a lot of times. Has it made it worse? No, never. Although one time I did have a glass of water and for a full five minutes I didn’t know what to do. Dave and I are two of the funnest drinking partners that one could have, but I know that’s just a hobby.”

Josh often likes a bottle of Grey Goose vodka when performing, often being seen with one when touring with side project Them Crooked Vultures. However, Josh said he and Dave do more than just drink and play music, regularly getting together to ride motorcycles and dine out.

He said: “Dave and I ride motorcycles together as well, and we like sushi. We’re very foodist. Unbeknownst to each other, we both had a list of the 50 best restaurants in Los Angeles and we’re trying to check them all off. I think we’ve done about 12 so far.”

Queens Of The Stone Age could follow their upcoming debut album re-release with the announcement of UK tour dates. Front-man Josh Homme revealed that the band are keen to get back on the road, following his busy 2010 schedule with supergroup, Them Crooked Vultures.

The US rock group will re-release their classic self-titled debut album on 7th March 2011. Rumours of a new tour come from Radio 1 DJ Zane Lowe, who announced at the end of last week via Twitter, “QOTSA to play several shows in special venues across the UK pre-summer to support the re-release of their debut album on Domino Records.”

The band are also rumoured to have been lined up to appear at various UK festivals this summer. Queens Of The Stone Age tickets will be made available to buy online as soon as dates are announced.

Ex-Led Zeppelin bassist John Paul Jones has dropped hints that he will join the Foo Fighters on stage for their shows at the National Bowl in Milton Keynes. John Paul Jones and Dave Grohl are band mates in Them Crooked Vultures.

Foo Fighters have a massive summer ahead of them, headlining three festivals in the UK and Ireland, T In The Park, Isle of Wight Festival and Oxegen Festival.

The band will also be playing two dates at the Milton Keynes Bowl, with support bands Biffy Clyro, Jimmy Eat World and Death Cab for Cutie.

Them Crooked Vultures live: Tickets available for Brixton Academy

Them Crooked Vultures tickets are now on sale for the band’s one-off performance at Brixton Academy on July 5th. The band announced the gig only a few days ago, in support of a fund set up to assist Eagles of Death Metal bassist Brian O’Connor, who has been diagnosed with cancer.

The band will also perform at Roskilde Festival in Denmark next month, but the Brixton Academy show will be the only opportunity for fans to catch them here in the UK.

Them Crooked Vultures is made up of Dave Grohl of the Foo Fighters, Josh Homme from Queens of the Stoneage and Led Zeppelin’s John Paul Jones.

The organisers of Download Festival have revealed that there will be 22 more acts confirmed to the lineup on Monday. They told fans the news via their Facebook page, where they wrote:
“22 more bands. Announced midnight on Monday. The promise of a ‘variety of genres’ and ‘something for everyone’. I don’t know about you, but I’m pretty damn excited.”

Arctic Monkeys are playing a one-off show in support of Teenage Cancer Trust this month and Tixdaq.com can reveal that there are still a limited number of tickets available. The support acts have been announced for this year’s Teenage Cancer Trust series. Them Crooked Vultures, who are set to kick off the charity series, will be joined by Little Fish; Suede will be supported by These New Puritans; and Arctic Monkeys will be joined by the Mystery Jets.

Not forgetting: JLS, to be joined by Lemar and Diana Vickers; The Specials, to be supported by The King Blues; and last but certainly not least, The Who, to be joined by Sweet Billy Pilgrim. Phew.

Slash to play at Download Festival?

Slash has revealed that he’s in talks to perform at the 2010 Download Festival. The ex-Guns N’ Roses guitarist and general rock legend says he’s keen to play some European festivals this summer, following the release of his debut solo album on May 10. Speaking to Radio 1′s Newsbeat, he said: ‘I know we were talking about doing Download and there’s a couple of other ones. We’ll do some around Germany as well.’

The 2010 Download Festival looks set to be the best ever, with Rage Against the Machine and Aerosmith among the top acts already confirmed. This year’s festival is set to take place from June 11 – 13 at Donington Park and will see performances from the likes of AC/DC, Megadeth and Them Crooked Vultures. It will be one of Rage Against the Machine’s first gigs since they controversially clinched the 2009 Christmas Number One with ‘Killing in the Name.’

The Specials reveal UK plan

The Specials have revealed that their upcoming Teenage Cancer Trust show is likely to be their only UK gig this year. Speaking at the NME Awards, drummer John Bradbury said that the show, set to kick off at London’s Royal Albert Hall on March 29, would be the last chance for their UK fans to catch them play. ‘We’re able to combine the wonderful award with a wonderful cause,’ he said. ‘It’s probably the only gig we’ll do in the UK this year, as far as we know.’

The Specials join a fasntastic line-up for this year’s Teenage Cancer Trust series, featuring the likes of The Who, JLS and the Arctic Monkeys. The Who’s Roger Daltrey eyes Jimmy Page collaboration

The Who’s Roger Daltrey says he would like to record an album with legendary Led Zep member Jimmy Page. The 65-year old singer says he would love the idea of forming a supergroup, especially one that would give him the chance to sing the blues. Daltrey told BBC6 Music: ‘I’d love to do something, I’d love to do an album with Jimmy Page. He needs a singer to drive him. I’m a great blues singer.’

Daltrey is currently busy with preparations for the Teenage Cancer Trust series, which he curated. Following Depeche Mode’s stunning performance at the Royal Albert Hall last week, the Teenage Cancer Trust series is still set for a number of top dates. The full schedule is listed below:

Liam Gallagher to play at Teenage Cancer Trust?

The Who frontman Roger Daltry has revealed that Liam Gallagher almost joined forces with his band for the upcoming Teenage Cancer Trust series. The legendary British rockers are to conclude the charity series on March 30 and Daltry has confirmed that he wanted the former Oasis star to team up with the group. Speaking to Absolute Radio, Daltry said: ‘I actually rung Liam to be part of The Who night, but he’s otherwise engaged.’

Noel Gallagher is already set to play at the charity series, which will also see performances from the likes of JLS, Them Crooked Vultures and the Arctic Monkeys. Them Crooked Vultures are currently on tour in the UK and there are now only four shows left.

Them Crooked Vultures are in the UK promoting their self-titled debut release. The band, which features Foo Fighters’ frontman Dave Grohl, Queens Of The Stone Age’s Josh Homme and John Paul Jones of Led Zeppelin released the album last month and arrived in the UK last week.

Them Crooked Vultures kicked off their UK tour on December 10. Dave Grohl and co. are set to perfrom four shows next week visiting the Birmingham O2 Academy (December 14), Edinburgh Corn Exchange (December 15) and the London HMV Apollo (December 17 & 18).

Them Crooked Vultures UK Tour

Them Crooked Vultures are due to kick off their mini UK tour on December 10th in Plymouth. The band, formed by Foo Fighters Dave Grohl, Queen of The Stone Age’s Josh Homme and Led Zeppelin’s John Paul Jones, are then due to take the show through Portsmouth, Blackpool, Birmingham and Edinburgh before the grand finale at London’s HMV Apollo on 17th and 18th Decmber.

Them Crooked Vultures have confirmed that the debut album will be self-titled. The three legends of rock also unveiled the tracklisting for the record which is set to be released next month. The band, which features Foo Fighters’ frontman Dave Grohl, Queens Of The Stone Age’s Josh Homme andJohn Paul Jones of Led Zeppelin have announced an official release date of November 16.

Them Crooked Vultures are set to embark on a UK tour this December. Them Crooked Vultures kick things off at Plymouth Pavilion on December 10 before heading to a number of UK venues including the Birmingham O2 Academy (December 14), Edinburgh Corn Exchange (December 15) and the London HMV Apollo (December 17 & 18).

Dave Grohl joins Green Day in the line-up for MTV EMAs

The Foo Fighters and Shakira are the latest acts to be announced who will be performing at the MTV Europe Music Awards in Berlin on November 5.

They join Green Day and Leona Lewis who were the first names revealed on the line-up.

Green Day are nominated for Best Live Act, Best Group and Best Rock.

However, Lady Gaga and Kings of Leon top the list of nominations with five each, followed by Beyonce with four.

Green Day’s performance at the MTV EMAs will come a few days after the final date of their UK tour for the album 21st Century Breakdown.

The Green Day tour begins at the Glasgow SECC and Clyde Auditorium (October 19) and will be stopping off at other major UK arenas such as the London O2 Arena (October 23 & 24), Birmingham LG Arena (October 27 & 28), Manchester Evening News Arena (October 30 & 31) and the London Wembley Arena (November 1).

Beyonce will be sticking around Europe after the MTV EMAs as her UK tour for the album I Am Sasha Fierce begins at the Liverpool Echo Arena on November 11 before playing other major UK arenas like the Birmingham National Indoor Arena (November 12), London O2 Arena (November 14 & 16), Manchester Evening News Arena (November 18), Newcastle Metro Radio Arena (November 19) and the Nottingham Trent FM Arena (November 20).

Foo Fighters’ Dave Grohl will also be in Europe this Winter as part of Them Crooked Vultures as they embark on their headline UK tour throughout December to coincide the November release of their eagerly anticipated new album.

Acts prepare for upcoming Reading and Leeds Festival 2009

It seems not all the acts are preparing for the upcoming Reading and Leeds Festival in the same way.

The Arctic Monkeys prepared for their headline live performance with a gig at the London O2 Brixton Academy last night, their first live gig since the release of their hotly anticipated third album Humbug.

Not only did the Arctic Monkeys perform the new songs, but belted out the hits from their previous albums Whatever People Say I Am, That’s What I’m Not and Favourite Worst Nightmare. Also, as reported earlier on Tixdaq News, Them Crooked Vultures filled in the support slot.

Now whilst some bands like the Arctic Monkeys warmed up on stage in the run up to their Reading and Leeds Festival performance, another band have had to cancel upcoming gigs.

Maximo Park have had to announce the cancellation of their tour of North America due to illness, which was scheduled to take place from September 6.

In the statement from Maximo Park, the cancellation was cited as being for personal reasons, and wholeheartedly apologised to those looking forward to the shows.

The statement also said that Maximo Park always like coming to North America and would do all they can to reschedule the shows.

Let’s hope Maximo Park are well enough to perform at the Reading and Leeds Festival, but if not, Maximo Park are scheduled to return to the UK for three headline dates in October.

The Maximo Park tour will play at the Glasgow Barrowland (October 7), Manchester Apollo (October 8 ) and the London Royal Albert Hall (October 9).

Meanwhile, another band set to take the stage at the Reading and Leeds Festival is Fall Out Boy, despite their lead singer Patrick Stump allegedly being arrested in Hollywood with a driving charge in the early hours of August 26.

It has been reported that Patrick Stump was driving without a license and paid $15,000 (£9,200) bail. However, the incident is not expected to get in the way of their Reading and Leeds Festival appearance.

The Reading and Leeds Festival is taking place at the Reading Richfield Avenue and the Leeds Bramham Park from August 28-30.

It is rumoured that David Grohl’s new band, Them Crooked Vultures, are set to perform before the Arctic Monkeys this evening.

The Arctic Monkeys are playing a special gig at London Brixton Academy that is only open to members of their fan club. Alex Turner and his band mates are set to showcase material from the latest Arctic Monkeys album entitled Humbug which was released this week.

Rumours are currently circulating online suggesting Them Crooked Vultuers will be performing in the support slot. Them Crooked Vultures is the latest prjoect of Foo Fighters frontman, Dave Grohl. The band also features Josh Homme of Queens of the Stonage as well as Led Zeppelin’s John Paul Jones.

Tickets to see The Arctic Monkeys this evening are no longer available, however, fans will be glad to hear that tickets are still available for this weekend’s Reading and Leeds Festival.
