Taken from today’s London Evening Standard, here are the hottest open-air gigs and festivals coming up this summer across the City of London. There is plenty to see and do, and this summer looks set to be one of London’s busiest in years, with both the elite forces of Sport and Music all converging on one City. Field Day

Vince Power created the festival in 2008, his 1st UK festival after selling the Mean Fiddler. The festival boasts a NO SPONSORSHIP, NO BRANDING and NO VIP’s ethos, it is a festival for serious music fans, mixing legends with contemporary acts. Now a 3-day event with a capacity of up to 50k, 2012 will be it’s 5th year.

Previous Headliners include the likes of Prince, Eagles, Morrissey, Bob Dylan, Neil Young, Van Morrison and Paul Weller.

In addition to the shows already announced for Birmingham and Liverpool, the legendary singer will also perform in Bristol and Cardiff, with still more dates expected to be revealed. The tour so far begins on September 2nd at Birmingham’s Symphony Hall, and concludes at Cardiff’s St Davids Hall on September 23rd.

Van Morrison tickets are available now.

So far just two dates have been revealed for the legendary singer, whose hits include the classic Brown Eyed Girl. Van Morrison will perform at Birmingham’s Symphony Hall on September 2nd, and Liverpool’s Empire on September 3rd. More dates are expected to be announced soon. Unusually, there is no support act for the gigs, resulting in the entire evenings being dedicated to the hugely influential songwriter.

Van Morrison tickets go on sale this Friday (July 22nd).

Van Morrison recently topped the Friday night bill at Hop Farm Festival, where he pleased the crowd with hits such as Brown Eyed Girl, Gloria and Domino.

Ticket prices start at £50, with front block seats trading from £110. Tickets are available from both Stargreen and Gigantic, with fan-to-fan ticket exchange websites Seatwave and Viagogo currently providing the cheapest tickets on the secondary market.

In fact, it only makes us wonder why neither of those collaborations have happened. In the meantime though, at least we have the Script to keep us happy.

The Irish band behind incredible singles We Cry and The Man Who Can’t Be Moved will embark on a UK tour in November 2010, and will be supported by American singer Lissie as they promote second album Science & Faith.

The festival was originally only scheduled to take place on Saturday night, but was extended due to high demand for tickets. Blondie, Dr John and the Lower 911, Los Lobos, Imelda May and Damien Dempsey will also perform on Friday. Bob Dylan will headline the Saturday night.

Hop Farm Festival tickets are still available and Friday day tickets can be bought for £45. Camping tickets cost £25 and Saturday tickets are priced at £65.

On the previous night, Friday 2nd July, ticket holders will be treated to performances from Blondie, Dr John, Los Lobos and headline act Van Morrison.

Hop Farm Festival tickets are available from ticket vendors such as Seetickets, Gigantic, Ticketmaster and Viagogo. Friday ticket prices start at £45 whilst Saturday tickets are available for £65. Friday and Saturday night camping tickets will cost £25.

Hard Rock Calling tickets have been falling in price in recent weeks, with tickets to see Paul McCartney on the final day of the festival, Sunday 27th June, now trading from £32. In fact, it is cheaper to buy Paul McCartney tickets for his Hard Rock Calling performance than to buy tickets for any of his scheduled stadium shows. With a general admission day ticket, fans will gain full entry to the festival and can also witness performances from the likes of Crowded House, Elvis Costello and Crosby, Stills and Nash.

Hard Rock Calling takes place in Hyde Park from Friday 25th June to Sunday 27th June. Hard Rock Calling tickets for Pearl Jam’s headline performance on the Friday can also be picked up for £32. Saturday tickets for Stevie Wonder’s headline appearance start at £45.

Download Festival tickets are still available, despite the event getting under way tomorrow. Download weekend tickets are currently available on the secondary ticket market for less than £150. Music fans with download tickets will have the chance to witness headline performances from AC/DC, Rage Against the Machine and Aerosmith. This year’s line up also includes Deftones, Motorhead, Slash, 30 Seconds to Mars, Bullet For My Valentine, The Blackout and A Day to Remember.

Hop Farm Festival tickets are also trading below face value. Hop Farm Festival may not be the most talked about festival of the summer, but it will this year play host to the likes of Bob Dylan, Pete Doherty, Van Morrison, Laura Marling and Seasick Steve. The festival takes place in Tonbridge this July and day tickets cost around £45 each, with camping tickets costing £25 on top of that.

Isle of Wight Festival tickets:

Fans with Isle of Wight Festival tickets can expect big things this summer, with a line-up that could be considered one of the best festival bills of the summer. The event will be headlined by Jay-Z, The Strokes and Paul McCartney and there will also be appearances across the weekend from the likes of  Florence and the Machine, Blondie, Calvin Harris and Biffy Clyro.

Isle of Wight festival weekend with camping tickets can be picked up on the secondary ticket market for around £185. Alternatively, weekend tickets without camping can be bought for as little as £120.

Hard Rock Calling tickets:

Although only in it’s fourth year in 2010, Hard Rock Calling is quickly establishing itself as one of the best London festivals of the year. This year, as well as his Isle of Wight appearance, Paul McCartney will be headlining, along with Pearl Jam and Stevie Wonder. Other acts include The Hives, Jamiroquai, Crowded House, Crosby, Stills and Nash and Elvis Costello.

Although weekend tickets are not available, Hard Rock Calling day tickets are currently trading for as little as £40. That is less than the average price paid to see Paul McCartney perform at his upcoming headline shows here in the UK.

Reading and Leeds Festival tickets:

Perhaps a festival aimed more at the younger generation of festival goers, the Reading and Leeds festival boasts a huge line-up that can surely compete with that of Glastonbury. Blink 182, The Libertines, Guns N’ Roses, Arcade Fire, Dizzee Rascal and Cypress Hill will all be appearing on the main stage throughout the weekend.

Expect to pay around £230 on the secondary ticket market for a weekend ticket with camping to either Reading or Leeds. Considering the face value price was around £190 when the tickets went on sale a few months ago, it is well worth spending the extra few pounds to take advantage of the fantastic line-up.

Hop Farm Festival tickets:

Gorillaz tickets:

Although not exactly a festival alternative, Gorillaz will be touring the UK in September on the back of their Glastonbury headline appearance. The band will be appearing at venues such as Glasgow SECC, Birmingham NIA, Newcastle Metro Radio Arena, Manchester MEN Arena,London O2 Arena and Dublin O2 Arena.

Gorillaz support acts for the September UK tour are yet to be announced, but expect some big names after appearances from Bobby Womack, De La Soul, Shaun Ryder and Super Furry Animals songwriter Gruff Rhys at the band’s Roundhouse shows in April. Ticket prices start at around £40.

Second place in the albums chart went to Kings of Leon. Kings of Leon have now spent twenty one weeks in the top ten. UB40 climbed sixteen places to clinch the third spot. Luther Vandross and James Morrison claimed the fourth and fifth positions respectively. Despite topping the chart last week, Bruce Springsteen fell six positions to number seven. The Fray were this week’s second highest new entry, claiming eighth place. The Killers and Luciano Pavarotti make up the remainder of this week’s top ten albums chart.

A number of this week’s album chart entries are performing live in the UK in 2009. This week’s chart topper, Lily Allen, kicks off her UK tour in March. The Lily Allen tour starts at the Glasgow O2 Academy on March 14. The Lily Allen also visits Bristol O2 Academy (March 18), Brighton Dome (March 20) and Birmingham O2 Academy (March 23). The Lily Allen tour comes to a close in London Where Lily Allen will play three shows at the O2 Shepherds Bush Empire. Lily Allen tickets are still available from £33. Last week’s chart winner, Bruce Springsteen, recently announced he will be playing two dates at London’s Hyde Park this summer. Kings of Leon, The Killers and James Morrison will also be no the road this year and tickets to see them on stage are still available.
