U2 officially confirmed to headline Glastonbury 2011

U2 have now been officially confirmed to headline this year’s Glastonbury festival. The date was announced by guitarist The Edge at last night’s NME Awards.

The band’s 2010 appearance was cancelled after Bono suffered a back injury, and they were widely expected to be confirmed for this year’s event.

U2 will top the bill on the Pyramid Stage at the event in Somerset on Friday June 24, joining Beyoncé and Coldplay at the festival.

Glastonbury tickets are currently sold out, but U2 tickets are available for shows in the US and Australia this summer.

Coldplay Confirmed To Headline Glastonbury Festival 2011

After confirmation that Beyonce will close the event came last week, organisers of Glastonbury Festival 2011 have now announced that Coldplay will headline the Saturday night.

Chris Martin, Jonny Buckland, Guy Berryman and Will Champion have been working on a new Coldplay album, and fans at Glastonbury will be excited to hear the new material live in concert.

This year’s Glastonbury Festival will take place between Wednesday June 22nd – Sunday June 26th 2011 at Worthy Farm in Somerset.

Though Glastonbury 2011 is sold out, Festival tickets for the rest of the big events of 2011 are still on sale, and there is an event to cater for everyone.

Beyonce confirmed for Glastonbury

It has recently been announced that Beyonce will headline the the 2011 Glastonbury Festival.

Beyonce will join other acts currently pencilled in to play the 2011 Glastonbury Festival once they have been officially confirmed. Acts rumoured to be joining the lineup include Coldplay, Arcade Fire and U2.

Fans will, of course, remember the 2008 Glastonbury Festival where Beyonce’s husband, Jay-z headlined and shocked the fans by playing the Oasis track ‘Wonderwall’.

Glastonbury 2011 takes place at Worthy Farm in Somerset from Wednesday 22nd to Sunday 26th June.

Whilst Glastonbury tickets have completely sold out, Festival tickets for some of this summer’s top events including Reading, Leeds, V Festival, Wireless, Bestival and many more are available now.

Glastonbury tickets sell out in four hours as line-up rumours gather pace

The first batch of Glastonbury tickets sold out in just four hours yesterday, after festival organiser Michael Eavis confirmed last week that this year’s headline acts are better than ever. Tickets to the festival cost around £200 each and as expected, did not last long after going on sale at 9am.

Speculation is strong that U2 will fill one of the headline slots after being unable to perform at last year’s event. Kylie Minogue is another name set to be confirmed, with acts such as Beyoncé, Coldplay, Madonna, Prince and Radiohead also being discussed.

Many were left disappointed to miss out on their Glastonbury tickets, but will be given another opportunity when the second release is announced in the coming months.

Muse to headline Glastonbury

Muse and Stevie Wonder are both due to headline at this year’s Glastonbury, festival organiser Michael Eavis has revealed. Eavis was speaking at the Event Production Show in London yesterday and confirmed Muse for the Saturday (June 26), and said that in all likelihood Stevie Wonder would headline the following night (June 27). U2, Hot Chip, Dizzee Rascal, Jack Johnson and Vampire Weekend are also set to play at the Somerset event.

Muse are set to perform three huge live shows in the UK this September. Muse will play one show at the Lancashire County Cricket Club in Manchester (September 4) before two dates at Wembley Stadium (Sep 10 & 11).

Yet again, the hugely popular Glastonbury Festival has sold out in a matter of hours. Tickets for the 2010 Glastonbury Festival went on sale yesterday and it has been confirmed that the event sold out in less than 24 hours.

Whilst no acts have been officially confirmed by Glastonbury Festival’s organiser, Michael Eavis, a number of top artists are rumoured to be headlining next year’s bill. Acts including U2, Beyonce and Radiohead have all been mentioned and Michael Eavis has confirmed that this year’s festival will feature performances from an artist that has appeared at each of the previous Glastonbury Festivals.

R’n'B fans will be glad to hear that they still have a chance to get their hands on Beyonce tickets for the forthcoming ‘I Am Sasha Fierce..’ tour. The UK leg of the 2009 Beyonce tour kicks off on November 11 at Liverpool Echo Arena. Beyonce is also set to perform live in concert at a number of the UK’s top venues including London O2 Arena (November 14 & 16), Manchester Evening News Arena (November 18) and Nottingham Trent FM Arena (November 20) The Beyonce tour draws to a close at Belfast Odyssey Arena on November 24. Glastonbury may follow Reading and Leeds with flag ban

Earlier this month, a statement on the official website for the Reading and Leeds Festival announced that flags were not allowed to be brought into the main arena, in order to allow ticket holders the best possible view.

Some have opposed the ban, claiming that the wave of colours was a main feature of the festivals, and that the flags had some practical implications such as being used as a meeting point in the sea of people. However, others may be thrilled with the flag ban, especially those who have had their views obstructed by flags in the past.

Now it seems Glastonbury may implement the flag ban next year after conversations were held between Michael Eavis, the Glastonbury festival chief, and Melvin Benn, the head of Festival Republic.

Melvin Benn, who runs the Reading and Leeds Festivals and also helps to organise Glastonbury, reflected on this year’s Glastonbury festival, which was held in June, and claimed that there was poor visibility of the acts on stage because of the number of flags.

Melvin Benn continued to say that there had always been flags at festivals but not to the extent as now, where flags had become very long and tall and there were more flags now than ever before.

For now, no official decision on a flag ban at Glastonbury has been made, and despite some protests against the flag ban at the Reading and Leeds Festival 2009, event organisers have failed to respond.

Despite the summer months coming to an end marking the end of the festival season, there are still plenty of festivals to look forward to in the UK.

Of course, the Reading and Leeds Festival is still to come, taking place at Reading Richfield Avenue and Leeds Bramham Park from August 28-30, headlined by Arctic Monkeys, Radiohead and Kings of Leon.

However if dance is more your taste in music, you can check out Creamfields 2009 which takes place at the Halston Daresbury Estate from August 29-30 where you can catch Basement Jaxx, Dizzee Rascal and Calvin Harris in action.

Get Loaded In The Park is one of the last of the biggest festivals that take place in the capital, and is happening at London Clapham Common on August 30, featuring Orbital, Royksopp, VV Brown, and a DJ set from Pendulum.

Bestival 2009 is one of the last festivals to feature some chart-toppping acts such as Elbow, Massive Attack, Lily Allen, Florence and the Machine, and Little Boots. Bestival 2009 is taking place at the Isle of Wight Robin Hill Adventure Park from September 11-13.

Doves and Jarvis Cocker added Glastonbury Festival line-up

It has recently been revealed that Jarvis Cocker, Doves and Echo And The Bunnymen will be three acts set to perform live in the John Peel Stage at the 2009 Glastonbury Festival.

Doves are up first. Doves will headline the John Peel stage on Friday 26 June. Jarvis Cocker will headline the tent on the Saturday (June 27), while Echo And The Bunnymen will bring things to a close on the Sunday night (June 28). Echo And The Bunnymen are planning to perform their 1984 album, Ocean Rain, in the John Peel stage at the 2009 Glastonbury Festival.

A number of top acts to have already been announced for the 2009 Glastonbury Festival include Blur, Bruce Springsteen, Franz Ferdinand, Kasabian, Lily Allen and Neil Young.

A number of this year’s Glastonbury Festival headliners are also performing live elsewhere in the UK this year.

Britpop legends, Blur, play a series of concerts this summers. Blur are set to perform at Southend Cliffs Pavilion on June 21 and Wolverhampton Civic Hall on June 24. Lily Allen performs secret gig

Lily Allen recently returned to London to play at the venue of of her first ever stage performance. Lily Allen played the final leg of her trio of Myspace secret gigs at Notting Hill’s Tabernacle in London. Lily performed live in fancy dress, with the theme of London tube stations. The themed London gigs follows simlilar shows Lily Allen performed in both Tokyo and New York earlier this year.

Lily Allen is playing numerous shows throught the UK this Autumn. The Lily Allen tour kicks off on November 14 at Sheffield O2 Academy. The Lily Allen tour also visits Birmingham NIA (November 24), Brixton O2 Academy (November 27 & 28) and Nottingham Trent FM Arena (December 10). Crosby, Stills and Nash confirm Glastonbury experience

Glastonbury organisers have confirmed that Crosby, Stills and Nash will perform this year’s festival on Saturday June 27th. Crosby, Stills and Nash will be joining currently confirmed headliners of the sold out festival Blur, Bruce Springstein, and Neil Young.

The Glastonbury 2009 festival will take place in Somerset between June 26 & 28. The event is now completely sold out, but thousands of fans are still holding out for return festival tickets.

Crosby Stills and Nash are also set to play several dates in the UK this summer appearing at, London Royal Albert Hall (July 1), Manchester MEN Arena (July 10) and Edinburgh Castle (July 11). Crosby Stills and Ash Tickets are available from £37.50

Neil Young who of course was previously a touring partner of Crosby, Stills and Nash throughout his career will also be touring the UK during the Summer. Having already confirmed an appearance at this years Isle of Wight festival and two other live dates in the UK. V Festival Chelmsford Tickets sell out in under two hours

Tickets for the V Festival’s Chelmsford site have sold out in less than two hours this morning according to the events organisers.

Meanwhile the final few tickets available for the Weston Park site of the two site two day festival are quickly diminishing after they went on sale at 10am this morning (March 6).

Glasvegas, Doves Nine Inch Nails, Pet Shop Boy’s and Jane’s Addiction have been confirmed to perform at Ireland’s Oxegen festival this summer.

The Saturdays, Eagles Of Death Metal, Dreadzone, God Is An Astronaut, Tom Middleton,Aeroplane, Gary Go and Hudson Mohawke have also been added to the line-up for the bash, set to take place at Punchestown Racecourse in Ireland on July 10 and 12.

Tv On The Radio, Lady GaGa and Of Montreal are the latest acts to be added to this summer’s T in the Park festival line up.

T in the Park last year won Best UK Festival Line-up at last year’s UK Festival Awards and look set to compete again this year with Tv On The Radio and Lady Gaga joining acts such as Kings Of Leon, Katie Perry, Blur and Snow Patrol, Razorlight, Pete Doherty, Elbow, Yeah Yeah Yeahs, The Ting Tings, Franz Fredinand, Lily Allen, Pendulum and White Lies who have all previously confirmed appearances at the Scottish festival. It has been confirmed that Oasis and The Killers will headline this years V Festival, which will take place across two sites, one in Chelmsford and one in Staffordshire on August 22 and August 23.

Oasis will be adding this V festival performance to their already extensive world tour which will see them return to the UK later this year including some epic shows at the City of Manchester stadium and Wembley.

Meanwhile The killers will be adding the V festival to a series of other summer festival headline appearances at Oxegen and T in the park. This follows a February and March UK tour for the busy and increasing popular American group.

London’s O2 Academy Brixton was host to the surprise return of Blur after a self enforced seven year absence. Damon Albarn and Graham Coxon received an ovation from the crowd of rock royalty attending this year’s NME Award Show.

The former Britpop stars took to the stage for the first time together since splitting in 2002 with the surprise and low key performance of This Is A Low from one the most successful albums of the 90′s Parklife.

This performance marks the official return of Blur as they set out to tour the UK this summer with a live dates including performances at summer festivals T in the Park and Oxegen as well as headline shows at Manchester MEN Arena (June 26) two historical gigs in London’s Hyde Park(July 2 & 3).

The surprise Blur performance acted as the perfect cap to yet another memorable NME awards show which saw Oasis crowned best band and The Cure named Godlike Geniuses, Pete Doherty named best male solo artist and Kings of Leon were rewarded with best album for Only By The Night.

Meanwhile other award recipients included MGMT who took away best new band and best track, The Killers who were named best international band and Muse who once again took home best live band.

In the less rewarding categories NME readers voted for he Jonas Brothers to receive worst band and worst album prizes, while Amy Winehouse was voted the world’s worst dressed woman. However style icon and tv presenter Alexa Chung was voted best dressed.

Elbow were honoured for their outstanding contribution to British music and The Cure won the Godlike Genius Award.

Many of the NME award winners are on tour in 2009.

Lily Allen and The Ting Tings bring femine touch to T in the Park

Lily Allen, Keane, The Specials, Paolo Nutini, Digitalism and The Mars Volta are all amongst the latest round of performers confirmed to be playing this year’s Oxegen festival.

Paul Weller Scoops Best British Solo Male at Brit Awards

The success of Paul Weller’s 2008 album 22 dreams helped the former Jam frontman beat off competition from other British solo artist Ian Brown, James Morrison, The streets and Will Young to be name Best Britsh Solo Artist of 2008.

Paul Weller’s Award was tainted in some controversy however following various bookmakers’ decision to suspend all Brits award related betting on suspicion that a list of winners had been leaked following a sudden rush of wagers were placed on Paul Weller to win best solo male artist across several William Hill Bookmakers.

Other winners at the 2009 Brit Awards took place at London Earl’s Court included Kings of Leon who took home the awards for Best International Album and Best International Group, Elbow won the Best Group award, Katy Perry was named Best International Female and Iron Maiden took home the award for Best Live Act. As many had expected, Paul Weller picked up the Best Male Solo Artist award. Pet Shop Boys picked up the Outstanding Contribution to Music award and Florence and the Machine won the Critics’ Choice award.

Killers confirmed as Oxegen Festival Headliners

Promoter’s MCD have announced that The Killers have joined the line-up for this year’s Oxegen festival.

Having also confirmed a series of festival appearances this summer including T In The Park, the Las Vegas band will also headline the Irish festival for the second year in a row at Punchestown Racecourse between July 10-12.

The Killers will be joining acts such as Bloc Party, Blur, Elbow Fight Like Apes, Jason Mraz, Katy Perry, Kings of Leon, Nick Cave And The Bad Seeds, Pendulum, Pete Doherty, Razorlight, Snow Patrol, The Killers, The Script, The Ting Tings, White Lies and Yeah Yeah Yeahs who have all previously confirmed appearances at this years festival.

Blur to make Manchester return

It has recently been announced that Blur will play the first date of their reunion tour at Manchester MEN Arena. The Brit Pop stars will be returning to the stage on June 26.

Tickets for this long awaited show at Manchester MEN Arena will be available this coming Friday (February 13) and will act as a precursor to the already sold out Blur concerts at London’s Hyde Park (July 2 , 3).

Blur have also announced performances at T in The park along with already confirmed act Kings of Leon, Snow Patrol and Katy Perry and also Ireland’s Oxegen festival were they will be joining the likes of Killers and Bloc Party.

Further still Blur are rumoured to marking their historic return as one of the headline acts of this year’s Glastonbury Festival which takes place June 27 and 28, though this is yet to be confirmed.

Blur to give fans taste of Hyde Parklife

After weeks of speculation about the reforming of Britpop legends, Blur, it can be confirmed that they are set to play a small number of live performances in 2009. As well as a Hyde Park performance, it is rumoured that Blur will be confirmed as one of the headliners at Glastonbury festival 2009.

Blur’s 90’s rivals, Oasis, will also be touring next summer. Oasis are playing a series of outdoor shows including performances at Heaton Park, Murrayfield and Wembley Stadium. Tickets to see Oasis are still available for all of the shows. Noel Gallagher has recently admitted that the feud between Oasis and Blur was childish and is now all in the past.

Glastonbury 2009 tickets have not yet gone on sale, but a number of major festivals have already released tickets for next summer. Festival tickets for events including the Isle of Wight Festival, Reading Festival, Leeds Festival and V Festival are all available now.
