The date was announced by guitarist The Edge at last night&#8217;s NME Awards.</p><p>The band&#8217;s 2010 appearance was cancelled after Bono suffered a back injury, and they were widely expected to be confirmed for this year&#8217;s event.</p><p>U2 will top the bill on the Pyramid Stage at the event in Somerset on Friday June 24, joining Beyoncé and Coldplay at the festival.</p><p><strong>Glastonbury tickets</strong> are currently sold out, but <strong><a
href="http://www.tixdaq.com/u2-tickets/" target="_self">U2 tickets</a></strong> are available for shows in the US and Australia this summer.</p><p><object

Tickets to the festival cost around £200 each and as expected, did not last long after going on sale at 9am.</p><p>Speculation is strong that U2 will fill one of the headline slots after being unable to perform at last year&#8217;s event.
