Liam Gallagher speaks of Oasis absence at V Festival

Liam Gallagher has apologised for the cancelled Oasis headline slot at Sunday's V Festival.

Liam Gallagher has spoken out for the first time about his band Oasis having to cancel their headline slot at Sunday’s V Festival, scheduled to take place at the Chelmsford Hylands Park venue.

Oasis were able to perform at the V Festival the day before at the Shifnal Weston Park, but singer Liam Gallagher was diagnosed with viral laryngitis by doctors and was forced to pull out of their performance for the following day, disappointing many of the fans who came to V Festival to see them especially.

Liam Gallagher posted his comments using Twitter, claiming his voice had disappeared, and that he was gutted and sorry. He also paid respect to the bands who covered Oasis songs on the Sunday night in their absence, which included Keane.

Lead singer of Keane Tom Chaplin has admitted wanting to work with Oasis some day and that the band are huge fans of theirs.

Despite Oasis not showing much support towards Keane in the past, Tom Chaplin believes the two bands share a lot of fans and that they are two bands who relate to their audience.

Tom Chaplin also thinks that both Keane and Oasis songs are always direct whilst the group of people who go to Keane and Oasis gigs is like the coming together of a community.

Other bands who covered Oasis songs during their absence at Sunday’s V Festival were MGMT and Snow Patrol, who became the new Sunday headliners.

MGMT, with current album Oracular Spectacular, are scheduled to play one more UK festival this year and it comes in the shape of Bestival 2009, which is being held at the Isle of Wight Robin Hill Adventure Park from September 11-13.

Also, Snow Patrol will be back in the UK for their Winter tour, which they have called the Reworked Tour and are sure to perform songs from their last album A Hundred Million Suns.

The Snow Patrol Reworked tour begins at the Brighton Centre on November 18.

It will then stop off at the Bristol Colston Hall (November 20), Newcastle City Hall (November 21), London Royal Albert Hall (November 23 & 24), Manchester Palace Theatre (November 27 & 29) and the Glasgow SECC and Clyde Auditorium (November 30) before taking the tour to Ireland.

Snow Patrol tickets go on general sale on Thursday August 27 at 9am.

Oasis hire bodyguards and design artist for Wembley gigs

Noel Gallagher and the rest of Oasis are to play their London Wembley Stadium gigs today and this weekend

It has been reported that for their upcoming shows at the London Wembley Stadium, Oasis band member Noel Gallagher has hired SAS bodyguards for extra security.

This follows from when Oasis appeared at a festival in Toronto, Canada last September where Noel Gallagher was pushed off the stage by a crazy festival-goer and was hospitalised.

Noel Gallagher suffered three broken ribs and had to recover whilst a few Oasis shows to follow had to be cancelled.

It seems Noel Gallagher does not want to risk any chances of a repeat of what happened, after feeling very shook up over the incident and was worried about going back on stage again.

All of the Oasis band members agreed it was better to be safe than sorry by having the SAS security guards there at the London Wembley Stadium, knowing that any one of them could have been the victim of what happened.

Meanwhile, Oasis have also hired an artist from Sheffield to design the posters going on sale when Oasis perform at the London Wembley Stadium.

Pete McKee, who has worked with Oasis before over the past few years, has designed the one-off posters, which features a cartoon of Oasis fans, including a female with an Oasis tattoo.

The posters will go on sale at the London Wembley Stadium where Oasis will play on July 9 as well as the weekend of July 11 & 12.

New Kasabian arena tour dates announced

The Kasabian tour kicks off at the Newcastle Metro Radio Arena on November 10 and will be playing ten shows in total.

Kasabian will be stopping off at the major UK arenas such as the Glasgow SECC (November 12), London Wembley Arena (November 14), Nottingham Trent FM Arena (November 18), Birmingham NIA (November 19) and the Manchester Evening News Arena (November 20) before finally drawing the tour to a close at the Sheffield Arena on November 23.

Kasabian fans can expect live performances of songs from their number one album titled West Ryder Pauper Lunatic Asylum.

Kasabian tickets for these new dates will go on general sale on Friday July 3 at 9am.

However, fans can also catch Kasabian in action this summer, such as supporting Oasis during their three-date stint at the London Wembley Stadium (July 9, 11 & 12).

Kasabian will also play two shows at the London Brixton O2 Academy (July 16 & 17) followed by two shows at the Wolverhampton Civic Hall (August 24 & 25).

iTunes Festival confirm six acts so far for July gigs

The iTunes Festival, celebrating its 3rd anniversary, will take place at the London Roundhouse in July and six acts have already been confirmed.

The six acts are Flo Rida (July 4), Snow Patrol (July 5), Paolo Nutini (July 10), Oasis (July 21), Kasabian (July 22) and The Saturdays (July 27). More acts are expected to be announced soon.

The six acts have got a busy summer period ahead of them as they are all set to perform at other summer festivals and gigs.

Flo Rida will perform songs from album R.O.O.T.S at the O2 Wireless Festival at London Hyde Park (July 4-5) and the Flo Rida tour also kicks off soon after with shows at the O2 Shepherds Bush Empire (July 12), Manchester Apollo (July 14) and the Glasgow O2 Academy (July 15).

Snow Patrol will be at T In The Park festival at the Kinross Balado Airfield (July 10-12) and the V Festival at Hylands Park, Chelmsford and Weston Park, Shifnal (August 22-23).

Paolo Nutini, whose new album Sunny Side Up is out on June 1, will also be performing at T In The Park festival and V Festival, but will first be at the Isle of Wight Festival at the Newport Seaclose Park (June 12-14).

Kasabian, whose new album West Ryder Pauper Lunatic Asylum is out on June 8, will be the support act for the upcoming Oasis tour which kicks off with three dates at the Manchester Heaton Park (June 4, 6 & 7) and ends with three dates at the London Wembley Stadium (July 9, 11 & 12).

The Saturdays tour, featuring songs from debut album Chasing Lights, features concerts across the UK throughout June and early July, including a show at London HMV Apollo (June 24).

The Saturdays will also be at the Capital FM Summertime Ball at the London Emirates Stadium (June 7) and T4 On The Beach at the Weston Super Mare Beach (July 19).

Are music concerts to blame for poor state of Wembley pitch?

The pitch at Wembley Stadum, London is being dug up and re-laid for the fifth time after football managers including Alex Ferguson insisted it was not up to scratch.

Wembley Stadium cost approximately £750 million to build and various events have been held there to help recuperate the funds, such as music concerts, American football matches and motor racing.

Music industry insiders claim that any accusations made by the Football Association that music concerts were to blame were simply misguided.

This echoes the sentiments of Arsenal FC manager, Arsene Wenger, who defends the idea that music concerts were to blame and argues that the Wembley pitch was never really in good condition right from the start when Wembley Stadium opened in 2007.

One source claims that having these different events at Wembley Stadium, London allows different types of grass to be tested and is actually a benefit to the ground staff of the venue.

Following on, it was claimed that having seen no problems at the old Wembley Stadium, it was just a matter of getting the climate right in order to find the correct grass surface.

Concerts held at Wembley Stadium, London so far have come from Metallica and Madonna.

Metallica are due to play at Sonisphere at Knebworth House, Stevenage during the weekend of August 1-2.

Madonna is also on the road this summer with the ‘Sticky & Sweet Tour’ and is due to play the London O2 Arena and the Manchester MEN Arena in July.

Concerts coming up at Wembley Stadium, London are AC/DC, Take That, Oasis, U2 and Coldplay, with the pitch scheduled to be re-laid again after these summer concerts.

AC/DC will play Wembley Stadium, London on Friday June 26 but will also play Hampden Park, Glasgow on Tuesday June 30.

Take That tour their current album, The Circus, throughout the UK and will play four shows at Wembley Stadium, London from Wednesday July 1.

Oasis also tour the UK playing at Wembley Stadium, London three times from Thursday July 9.

U2 bring the 360º tour to Wembley Stadium, London twice from Friday August 14.

Bob Dylan up against The Enemy for Number 1 album

Bob Dylan is leading the battle for this week’s number one album after mid-week sales show The Enemy is trailing behind at number two.

The new album from Bob Dylan titled Together Through Life has currently sold around 3,000 more copies than the second album from The Enemy, Music For The People.

Bob Dylan is on course for achieving his first UK number one since 1970, when New Morning topped the album charts.

Noel Gallagher has recently revealed that he has decided to focus on his solo material and has no plans to release a new Oasis album for five years. Noel also said that he expects other Oasis band members to release solo projects in the next few years.

Terra Firma writedown 1.15bn of EMI investment

Despite a seemingly bright fiscal year that saw EMI cut costs, slow losses and improve revenues, private equity group Terra Firma have announced a decision to take an estimated £1.15bn impairment charge on their record label investment.

Recently published annual reports from Terra Firma (March 2) describe how earnings at EMI’s recorded music division have risen sharply over the last financial year. For the nine months to December, earnings before interest, tax, depreciation and amortisation rose from £12m to £104m at EMI’s record music division while earnings from the EMI music publishing increased from £81m to £91m.

However despite signs of recovery after years of turmoil for the label, it has been reported that Terra Firma is to take a 50% impairment charge based on re-estimated market values. Effectively writing down £1.15bn of Terra Firma’s original for £2.3bn EMI investment.

Prior to Terra Firma’s acquisition, cost-cutting under the previous management had led to market share losses to rivals Universal Music and Sony BMG. Terra Firma have continued along the cost cutting path reducing staff number by 2,000 in the past 12 months and reportedly on track to make its targeted £200m savings from EMI’s £700m cost base.

It would seem after significant staff reductions the next avenue of cost cutting to be explored will be EMI’s roster of artists following Terra Firma’s declaration that EMI will be ‘more selective’ with its artist relationships.

EMI currently has 14,000 artists on its roster. of which just 200 account for 50% of revenues. EMI reported a 40 per cent fall in new music sales in the year to March but has had success with American pop sensation Katy Perry and the world wide dominance of Coldplay’s Viva La Vida which has been the year’s biggest-selling album.

Oasis to join Coldplay at Roskilde

Organisers behind the popular Roskilde Festival have recently announced that Oasis will headline this year’s festival. Oasis will join Coldplay as well as Madness and Slipknot at the hugely popular festival.

The Roskilde Festival takes place outside the Danish capital, Copenhagen, between July 2 and 5.

Kasabian announce live dates

It has recently been announced that Kasabian have confirmed they will be playing the 2009 Eden Sessions as well as this year’s Great Escape Festival.

Before taking to the stage at the 2009 Eden Sessions, Kasabian will play the Great Escape Festival in Brighton on May 14-16. Other artists set to play at this year’s festival include Little Boots, British Sea Power and Lightspeed Champion. The Eden Sessions show takes place on July 4 at the Eden Centre in Cornwall.

This news comes in addtion to the recent announcement that Kasabian will be one of the acts taking part in this year’s Teenage Cancer Trust Concerts at the Royal Albert Hall.

Coldplay score Grammys hat-trick

Last night, the 2009 Grammy Awards took place at the Staples Centre in Los Angeles and British rock band Coldplay were amongst the big winners. Coldplay picked up three awards including the prize for Best Rock Album.

Other Brits to pick up prizes at last night’s Grammys included Duffy, Adele and Radiohead.

Duffy picked up the award for Best Pop Vocal Album, whilst Adele won the Best New Artist and Best Female Pop Vocal Performance prizes. Radiohead’s 2008 album, In Rainbows, won the Grammy for Best Alternative Music Album.

The multiple Grammy winners, Coldplay, embark on their 2009 stadium tour in September. The Coldplay tour kicks off at Lancashire County Cricket Ground in Manchester on September 12 and draws to a close in London at Wembley Stadium on September 19. Oasis have recently announced that they will be playing a number of shows in China this April as part of the Oasis world tour.

Oasis up for 7 gongs

Today, the nominations for this year’s NME Awards, also known as the Brats, were announced. Oasis lead the way in the nominations list and are in the running for awards including Best Live Band, Best Album and both Best and Worst Band.

Oasis’ Noel Gallagher has also been nominated for two awards: Best Dressed and Hero of the Year.

Other acts nominated include Kings of Leon, Bloc Party and The Killers.

Potential 14 year Jail Term for Noel Gallagher Attacker

It has been reported that 47 year old Canadian Daniel Sullivan now faces an upgraded aggravated assault charge carrying a maximum 14 year jail term for his onstage ambush of Noel Gallagher during last September’s virgin festival in Toronto.

The attack which left the Oasis star injured with two broken ribs resulted in Oasis being forced to cancel a number of gigs on their recent ‘Dig Out Your Soul’ tour, including the now reschedule Oasis Eden Project gig due to take place this coming July 14^th 2009.

Oasis will precede the Eden Project with an 11 date stadium tour this summer. The tour begins in Oasis’s hometown of Manchester this June. See details of Oasis’s 2009 tour below.

Brit Awards nominees announced

The acts nominated for the 2009 Brit Awards were announced last night at the London Roundhouse.

Oasis to play Eden gig

It has recently been announced that Oasis will take part in this year’s Eden Sessions in Cornwall. Oasis were originally due to play the venue last year, but the event was postponed due to Noel Gallagher being attacked on stage in Toronto. It has been revealed that Oasis will now play at the Eden Project on July 14.

All those who bought tickets to last year’s cancelled show will be sent replacements. Fans who no longer wish to attend the concert will be offered a full refund.

The new date will take place two days after the last night of the Oasis summer tour. The 2009 Oasis tour kicks off at Heaton Park on June 4. Oasis will play three nights in their home town of Manchester before moving on to Sunderland’s Stadium of Light (June 10). Blur to give fans taste of Hyde Parklife

After weeks of speculation about the reforming of Britpop legends, Blur, it can be confirmed that they are set to play a small number of live performances in 2009. As well as a Hyde Park performance, it is rumoured that Blur will be confirmed as one of the headliners at Glastonbury festival 2009.

Blur’s 90’s rivals, Oasis, will also be touring next summer. Oasis are playing a series of outdoor shows including performances at Heaton Park, Murrayfield and Wembley Stadium. Tickets to see Oasis are still available for all of the shows. Noel Gallagher has recently admitted that the feud between Oasis and Blur was childish and is now all in the past.

Glastonbury 2009 tickets have not yet gone on sale, but a number of major festivals have already released tickets for next summer. Festival tickets for events including the Isle of Wight Festival, Reading Festival, Leeds Festival and V Festival are all available now.

Coldplay knock Kings off their throne

This week, Coldplay have outsold their rivals and are sitting pretty atop the official UK Live Entertainment top twenty compiled by Tixdaq.. Previous chart toppers, Kings of Leon, were knocked off the top spot as more Coldplay tickets were sold in the last seven days than any other artist. Both Coldplay and Kings of Leon tours are trekking around the UK with little to separate them. Third place in the chart is a non-mover with the Take That tour being followed closely by Girls Aloud and The Killers to complete the top 5 UK concerts.

The rest of the top 10 sees support for rock concerts as the Oasis tour 2009, Stereophonics, Kooks and the Slipknot residency all feature in the top 10.

Tickets to see Chris Brown, Duffy, Barry Manilow and The Prodigy proved to be hot sellers and all climbed in the second half of the top 20. Meanwhile, Metallica, Cliff Richard and Snow Patrol concert tickets are all losing ground on their chart rivals. This week’s new entries include tickets for Pendulum and Pussycat Dolls as well as the Elton John Red Piano tour.

Some Might Say, Hatton is the Best

As Ricky Hatton emerged from the smoke/dressing room on Saturday night at the MGM Grand, he was joined by two familiar faces. Brothers, Liam and Noel Gallagher had been invited to carry his belts to the ring in the highly anticipated bout. The fellow Mancunians then joined David Beckham at their ring side seats.

Mr Hatton looked much sharper than he did in his fight against Floyd Mayweather, but that may well have been down to the quality of opposition. The match came to an end in the 11th round when Hatton was declared the winner as a result of a technical knock-out.

The Gallagher brothers have recently completed their successful 2008 UK Arena Tour. Off With Their Heads as Keane and Oasis slip on Black Ice

The Official UK Album chart released on Sunday 26th October saw 4 new entries to the top 5. The winners were AC/DC with the rocking Black Ice and Kaiser Chiefs despite their album Off with Their Heads being leaked on the web. Oasis, Keane, Boyzone and Ne Yo all dropped out leaving Kings Of Leon at Number 3. Katherine Jenkins and Leon Jackson were also new entries.

It is a different story in the ticket resale charts. Rock takes all of the top slots with Oasis, AC/DC, Kings Of Leon and Coldplay all trailing The Killers for the second week. Kaiser Chiefs, Katherine Jenkins and Leon Jackson are all selling tickets for their forthcoming tours and will be expecting to see ticket demand increase following last week’s album chart success.

Music Fans Not Feeling The Crunch

With the likes of Oasis, Metallica and Lionel Richie going on sale this Friday (24th October), UK ticket agencies were bound to be busy. The top 5 box office websites crashed this morning as thousands of fans attempted to get hold of their desired tickets. Hundreds of fans were left disappointed as the websites timed out and forced them to shop elsewhere.

It is clear that music fans are not letting the current economic downturn prevent them from seeing their favourite artists. Face value prices for Metallica’s 2009 UK Arena Tour start at £45 and pairs of tickets are being listed for as much as £600 per pair on various online ticket exchanges. Top seats for Lionel Richie’s performance at London’s O2 Arena which were originally priced at £75 are already being listed for as much as £599 each on the same websites.

Following the recent news of yet another bogus ticket company being shutdown, fans are encouraged to only purchase from sites with Buyer Guarantees to ensure that they are protected.

Coldplay to Play Knebworth

The date has yet to be announced, but the band have confirmed that they will be playing Knebworth some time next year. The huge venue has hosted some of the biggest stars, including the likes of Robbie Williams, Oasis, Queen and the Rolling Stones. More than 100,000 tickets are expected to go on sale and will be in high demand.

Coldplay begin their huge Arena Tour on 29th November in Sheffield. The band will play 13 further dates across the UK including performances in Birmingham, Manchester and London. The 14 night jaunt draws to a close in Belfast on the 23rd December. Thosands of tickets are currently available online with prices starting at just £54.99.

Keane Sweep Oasis to One Side

After only a week at the top of the UK album charts, Oasis have been knocked from the top spot by their rivals, Keane. The Sussex trio’s third album, Perfect Symmetry was last week’s highest new entry taking the number one chart position.

The well documented spat between the two groups has clearly served both of them well in terms of publicity and it seems that Keane have come out on top for now. The row was instigated by Liam Gallagher who strongly criticised their adversaries’ musical ability.

Keane are hitting the road in January for a 15 date UK arena tour. Tickets are currently listed for sale online from £27.50. Meanwhile, Oasis are approaching the end of a hugely successful 18 night UK arena tour. However tickets are still available for the remaining 8 Oasis shows with prices stating at £42.

Sussex Trio Keane to Give Fans Taste of New Material

In the same week that Mancunian loud mouths, Oasis labelled them “shit”, Keane have announced that they will be using the same technology to offer fans a preview of their new album, Perfect SymmetryPerfect Symmetry. Fans will be allowed to hear the tracks via Last.Fm as of the 6th October – a week prior to the official release date. The album will face stiff competition from Boyzone’s new record which will also be out on the 13th October.

Both bands have recently announced 2009 arena tours. Keane kick off in Belfast on the 23rd January and end in London on 12th February. Boyzone’s 12 night tour commences 4 months later on May 24th before visiting 10 more cities including Glasgow, Manchester and London. Tickets are selling out fast for both tours and fans are encouraged to get them before it is too late.

Oasis to Claim Double Chart Victory

Hardly a week has gone by over the last two months where Oasis have failed to grab the headlines for one reason or another. The band, who recently returned from an eventful stint in the US, has been busy promoting the release of the forthcoming album, Dig Out Your Soul.

The band have agreed to headline the last night of the Electric Proms on the 26th October which takes place at London’s Roundhouse. The performance will be slotted in between the Cardiff and Belfast dates on their imminent 18 date arena tour. Tickets for the tour went on sale at 08:15 on 30th September and sold out in less than a minute. Seconds after the concert had sold out, general admission tickets with a face value of £27.50 were being listed on secondary exchanges for as much as £660.

The band’s latest single, The Shock of the Lightning, was released on the 29th September and is tipped to knock The Kings of Leon off the top spot. If the music biz pundits are right, Oasis will be celebrating their second chart triumph in as many weeks after claiming pole position in the first ever live music charts.

Oasis vs Coldplay Round 2

It was inevitable that Oasis’ forthcoming tour would be one of the biggest tours of 2008, but selling out every night within an hour of going on sale was perhaps beyond the expectations of even the band. Like their southern counterparts, Coldplay, the Manchester group sold-out their entire tour shortly after going on sale.

Tickets went on sale on 20th August at 9 am and within 9 minutes the two dates at Wembley were sold-out. Moments later, the tickets for the remaining 16 nights had been sold. Thousands of fans were left disappointed after failing to secure tickets through the official tickets agencies.

Unsurprisingly, no sooner had the massive arena tour sold-out, the secondary market was inundated with tickets. Over 3,500 tickets, with face values starting at £32.50, are already listed anywhere between £95 and £499. By comparison, 6,962 Coldplay tickets are for sale with prices currently ranging from £55 to £660.

Only time will tell which one of these huge bands will take the 2008 crown for the most successful British arena tour.

Oasis vs Coldplay in ticket showdown

In the same week that Noel Gallagher labelled Mark Ronson talentless and blasted the music of The Kaiser Chiefs and Scouting For Girls, Oasis officially announced the dates of their UK tour. The 18 date tour gets underway in London on 16th October and closes in Glasgow on 5th November. Tickets go on sale this week and the shows are expected to sell out in record time.

However, it was not only Noel who decided to unleash one of his characteristic outbursts.. Younger brother, Liam, said he thought all of Coldplay’s fans were ‘boring and ugly’. Coldplay who themselves announced their UK tour in June have sold-out all 16 dates. Tickets are selling for as much as £329 on the secondary market – over seven
times face value. Only time will tell if Oasis ticket prices will follow the same trend.
