American indie band Vampire Weekend first met while studying at the prestigious Columbia University in New York City. They are named after frontman Ezra Koenig's amateur film of the same name. Their debut album, released through XL Recordings in 2007, offered a new interpretation of what is traditionally called indie music; marrying African rhythms with ska and indie pop.
